@@austinguthrie5528 I failed to save him once. Then adjusted my playthrough style. I've done runs through the trilogy with Ash surviving, and with Kaiden. Find Ashley to be less useless, and less annoying in the long run
Only the first version of the genophage was being adapted to. The second was refined so they couldn't adapt to it. The issue with the second version was that it was created because the STG went looking for the data that would prove the Krogan would be a problem. They had a end result already in mind ao just looked for ways to justify the actions they wanted to take.

I have a lot of respect for the Krogans. Their biology and psychology make them great warriors, but without something to fight, they struggle to live in peace. I like to think they get a second chance at the end of ME3
The problem with the idea of the Genophage restoring the Krogan birthrate to pre-industrial levels is it requires a much more hospitable planet, which Tuchanka isn't.
Correction: While Tuchanka is not and never has been a particularly hospitable planet, pre-industrial Tuchanka was likely very similar to pre-colonial Central and South America. The in-game codex has an entry that Tuchanka was once covered in dense jungles containing all the associated protections and dangers. But more than that, krogan physiology was inspired by toads, which have a very high infant mortality rate. By the simply math of attrition from resource availability, predation and the elements, only 200 out of every thousand young will survive infancy; of those 200, between 35 and 60 will survive to adulthood. Such a high birth rate was a necessary adaptation by pre-industrial krogan to offset the number of young they lost to predators. Though it's never stated in the lore, we can infer that between 40% and 60% of the eggs in a given clutch were lost before they hatched to any number of factors. So making the point that Tuchanka isn't a hospitable planet is redundant.

Brutes and Elites in Halo, Orks in 40k, Krogen in Mass Effect, all of them are really cool and I like and respect them a lot. I still feel that the Krogen didn't deserve the genophage, no species deserves a slow miserable extinction, no matter how violent or aggressive they are.
My take always was: If Eve and Wrex are alive then the Krogan get the cure but if not then they don't. I think that not only are the Salarians hypocrites for trying to stop Shepard when they did the same thing to stop the Rachni but even if the Krogan go rouge down the line then at least there will be a galaxy left for them to go rouge in.
I’d love for the next game to be about everyone being the enemies. I know this won’t happen but I can see there being a huge power struggles after the reapers where defeated, the Krogan start to become warlike, the Salarians start acting on their own to curtail the krogan advance but they do I by destroying planets. The Turians have another civil war which sees large chunks of its military split off to form new empires and the Asari fall to the their darkest urges and decide that everyone should live under their thumb or die. Oh and humans, while not necessarily trying to be bad, either stay out of the fighting or works to grab as much land as possible during the chaos. And it’s up to Shepard and a few squad mates (new and old) to figure out how peace can prevail once again only to discover that their is a shadowy faction that has infiltrated the ranks of each races governments to instigate all this. And separate from all this would be an even smaller story line that hints at something else that everyone should be afraid of.
I always used to think that when Krogan talk about being "a quad" it was referring to how they have secondary and tertiary redundant organs, you must be really tough and you've got a quaternary redundant organ. The Krogan are the most interesting race in Mass Effect, maybe there's just something about the idea of a warrior race that really gets writers all on the same page. The lore about Krogan and biotics doesn't really fit with the story ingame, since nobody ever talks about Wrex's biotics, but then a lot of biotic lore doesn't really get acknowledged much by the dialogue at all.

The Krogans didn’t deserve the long last suffering of the Genophage and the slow death of their species, and that not including their own sense of despair and belief that many will never see a future for their species.
I don’t care if it’s hippie goodie two shoes bullshit: no species deserves to die by despair, and Wrex had learned how to control the Krogan and devote their efforts toward non-violent practices anyway. They deserve the same thing every thing else in this wide and wonderful universe deserves: a Chance. What they do with their civilization is in their hands, but I believe wholeheartedly that they’d never go back to their old ways of violence for violence’s sake after seeing how low it brought them during the final days of the modern era.

Just like nature has predators so prey don't overpopulate and end all the plant life. Wrex is only one krogan, and krogan nature is what it is. Even through non-violent methods they need to be expansionists. Just think of us humans. We had a world war that killed a lot of people in awful ways, and made many more suffer as well. What did we do a couple decades later? How many times have we learnt that war is awful? And yet how many wars have there been through out human history? And that's us humans, who are actually quite good at rationality. All of the krogans we meet in ME are impulsive and aggressive. For how long could they supress it? How long til some charismatic leader puts them back in a path of war, which aligns much better with their culture and history? The best solution for everyone is to keep their population in check. That's how the galactic ecosystem stays safe. Maybe the genophage should be adjusted so that they have it easier to reproduce. But removed completely? Nah, that would only ensure deep trouble down the line, sooner or later.
