In Mexico we had a massive lost of media in the year 1982 when the national movie library (idk how to say cineteca in english) burned to the ground because of a short circuit caused in the reveal laboratory where lots of flamable chemicals were stored. 6506 movies, 2300 scripts and 9000 books were lost in the fire, among the irrepairable losses were the complete film archive of Plutarco Elías Calles' presidency (1924-1928), original drawings from the famous mexican artist Diego Rivera and unique copies of films from the golden age of mexican cinema.

Another curious case in Europe: Eurovision 1964. It is a popular music show in Europe in which most of the editions, starting in 1956, have fully survived. However, 2 editions are missing: 1956 and 1964. The case of 1964 is the most debatable one, with no recordings from any tvs surviving. It was said that the danish broadcaster, who hosted the event, lost it in a fire. However, no firescomp were accounted on the headquarters. Later it was reveaed that they never recorded it. Some broadcasters recorded it but erased it later, like finnish broadcaster YLE, who has only a couple of minutes of the recording, which have recently surfaced. Many photos and some camcorder footage are available, but the complete show is only available in audio.

Another interesting fact related to this is Melodifestivalen 1973, which was the swedish national final for eurovision. While swedish tv has most of the shows from that era or the sixties archived, that one is completely missing, with only a bad quality audio tape available. Unfortunately it included the first performance of ABBA before they were even a formed group, who came 4th with what would be one of their first hits, "Ring ring"

I'd add to the list also some Gormiti lost media.
For anyone wondering, "Gormiti" is a famous Italian brand of toys, spanning from 2005 to this very day, with even a big international presence.
Unfortunately there are many cases of lost media from this brand, with some of the biggest examples being: the 24 karats gold Sommo Luminescente MetalCard, the possible existence of Italian dubs for the "Grande Inganno" and "The Legends Begins" short movies and the Battle Cards Mystica arts for the Lava tribe.
On the Lost Media Wiki Forums there are also threads for the first two I mentioned.

Doraeman 73 came up on a Kenny Lauderdale video the other day. Apparently a problem here is that such old spools of footage are rapidly degrading. If they aren't preserved in the next couple years, they'll literally rot away. The fact he planned on releasing some online gives me hope that it's been at least partially digitized, but it's still sort of a long shot.

Then again, almost every early-2000s Canadian kids TV memory that I have is so hazy and obscure that I often disregard entire shows as possibly just being bizarre dreams of memories or memories of dreams.

I think one of the reasons why lost media from other places isn't as widely talked about is because it's overall a relatively newly discussed topic on the mostly English-speaking internet with some exceptions. A lot of us Europeans don't really think about these things for example I think, we just assume that what's gone is gone and there's not really a point in looking for it

    • @Dr0dd
      @Dr0dd Рік тому +2

Even the awareness that media is lost and can be "found" again is pretty new. It's really only has become apparent to people in the age of the internet where it was assumed that everything gets recorded and archived. Then when communities found that there were big gaps in the public access of some media it was called "Lost Media".
Before that it was just assumed that things get unavailable and it's just natural to how media consumption works.
Also factor in that because of the prevalence of English-language websites and communities most countries' online communties lack the infrastructure and support for huge lost media searches to even begin crystalizing.

If you are planning to make a 2nd part, there was this famous lost media from Indonesia.
We simply just call it something like "penampakan adzan maghrib Trans TV" which literally means: the 'appearance' in maghrib call to prayer in Trans TV. Appearance here refers to ghost appearance, of course. For context, Indonesia is the country with the largest amount of muslims (despite not being a muslim country), and every time around 17.30 to 18.00 GMT +7 (depending on the muslim prayer schedule), all Indonesian TV stations are broadcasting the call to prayer around that time (Maghrib). In the early 2000s version of Trans TV's call to prayer, there was this appearance of a semi-opaque ghost on a train station, only for Trans TV to edit it ever since people noticed it. The search for it is like a big main quest for Indonesian lost media enthusiasts and it is still going on until I write this comment. A picture of the scene where the appearance occured was 'found', but it was just this LQ, 144p screenshot, not the full call to prayer, hence the reason why the search was still on. And because it's just a picture, some people assume it was just an edit. It's kinda like Hitogata at this point imo

A lot of Albanian dubs go lost or don't resurface until some years later due to hit or miss archival of them, most of them air on channels from the cable networks DigitAlb (Çufo, Bang Bang, Junior TV, TOP Channel, DigitAlb Gold) and Tring Digital (Tring Tring, Tring Kids, Tring Sofia, Tip TV, Vizion Plus) alongside some other lesser known channels. They often receive little to no home media or streaming releases except for some films and even less TV shows released on DVD by distribution companies like ALBTRADE and a few on-demand streaming services that recently began to host some of them. Another thing is that most of these dubs are produced unlicensed and without permission from the original copyright owner who in turn don't posses any material of them, the only thing that saves them is that the aforementioned TV channels that broadcast them will often cycle their programming line-up monthly to give some old and new productions airtime.

as a person that didn't get into Doctor Who until the reboot from 2005 but had always heard off the original series being good and interesting I tried to watch a lot of the original series back in High School around 2011 and even watching the original seasons and episodes that aren't lost was even a pain. It wasn't until I started looking into why it was almost semi impossible for me at the time to watch anything prior to the 2005 version that I learned about the BBC being absolutely completely horrible at preservation for pretty much anything they created. It honestly still infuriates me to this day how carelessly they treated a show that went on to run for some 60 odd years and still going at that

I find that the Doraemon 73 series is a more popular lost media search than anyone gives it credit for. There's always been a lot of uploads of the opening and closing, as well as more recent record album findings of possible insert songs. Meanwhile, while there used to be a somewhat active search, the lost bootleg Taiwanese Doraemon movie needs more love. And it wasn't even made by a shady fly by night organization. It was the product of a well known studio that the US has used for animation outsourcing since the 80's, with quite the list of popular series they worked on. Also needing more interest, the Japanese series Little Lulu and her Little Friends. The Japanese original version is almost entirely lost, the English dub (important because Little Lulu is an American production) is partially lost. Specifically the Harmony Gold produced second half of the series, which was used as the basis for some other foreign dubs, including the Russian lector overdub. Then there's the lost "Time Patrol" English dub of Time Bokan, which was also discovered under a Russian lector dub, also the basis for foreign versions of the show.

The fact that so many dubs of popular shows and cartoons are so rare does make me wonder about their status while they ran. Were these dubs widely circulated at the time and just tossed out when they were no longer "needed" or were these dubs not popular in the first place and as such were simply forgotten
I have a few foreign friends from South America who seem perfectly able to watch shows in english, so I'd be interesting to here from other non english speaking folks.

Hi! Argentinian here! Almost every tv channel shows only dubs of shows and movies, I've never seen any kid's cartoon in english growing up, and with tv series is almost always the same. Except some more "alternative" channels like I-Sat (which specializes in more niche stuff), which is the only place you can find adult swim content, given the fact we don't have that network here. They always used the original with subtitles. Other examples are channels like MTV, Film&Arts, Europa Europa, etc. Hope this helps!

There was an Irish Gaelic dub of Avatar TLA that aired on an Irish TV channel called TG4 that is often looked back on more fondly than the original for those who watched it. Having grown up with this version of the show myself, I've spent a good while looking for it. While there are box sets with the entire show known to exist and clips of the dub here and there, the dub in its entirety is not available. The show was taken off of their On Demand service Seinnteoir TG4 some time in the mid 2010's because their licence for the show wasn't renewed due what I can only assume was a lack of interest, what with them not having aired the show on network for a while beforehand. The studio that dubbed the show worked on other Nick shows though I am unsure if they ever considered LOK for a dub.
The majority of my interest in finding this comes from both my nostalgia for the series and also the fact that Irish is an endangered language. Even if its just a dub, I believe it represents something far bigger than the typical lost localisation.

LSSQ, I’d just love to let you know that the Canadian lost media scene over here has SO much lost stuff. It’s staggering. We have quite a few pieces that are just as rare, if not rarer than My Special Book. I grew up with My Special Book, and I remember back when there was only one screenshot on the entire internet and we were trying to find the name... The craziest part is that when I saw it again for the first time years later when the one screen recorded episode got found, the entire intro played out in my head as I was watching It, as if no time had passed since my child-brain saw it. I guess something you see a few times as a very small child can have a massive impact on you. There are lots more pieces of lost media from Treehouse TV, YTV and Telétoon and CBC Kids that not only did I grow up with, but I really think deserve more coverage. Grandpa’s Garden comes to mind, an old Treehouse interstitial series about a grandpa taking his 2 twin grandchildren to his garden to learn about plants. It aired between shows in little intervals and now has very little attached to it left. Or “Me Too!” A show from the deepest crevasses of my memory which only as of I think earlier this year had just one episode resurface thanks to a video by Anyapanda. Sadly, that’s the only one to be found. It’s about a cotton ball that comes to life and helps kids with their problems... And for years I dismissed it as nothing but a tissue commercial or something until her video on the subject came out. There’s so much out there that I and quite a good many kids used to watch... They just weren’t popular. This was Canada after all. Most Canadians at this time were watching American kids shows. Barely anyone decided to record our own in-house stuff a lot of the time. Treehouse TV, for a channel well remembered and beloved by quite a few Canadians born in my time, is THE biggest graveyard for lost media that’s fresh as day in our minds, but either have tons of missing episodes or can’t be accessed whatsoever. Especially in the mid to late 90’s and early to mid 2000’s. Most of our missing children’s media, for whatever reason, is from that era. you ever cover any more pieces of lost media from Canada, I’m all for it my dude. We really really need more awareness spread about some of these topics, and you’d really be the best one to do it.

I'm not from Canada, but there was also TVOntario (Whose kids shows would usually air on PBS stations, in the US, including my 2 local PBS stations, KMOS-TV 6, Sedalia\Warrensburg, MO & KCPT-TV 19, Kansas City, MO, in the 80's to early 00's.) & smaller Canadian TV stations, that produced their own TV shows, like CHCH-TV 11, Hamilton, Ontario. I do know that CHCH-TV produced a variety\sketch show called "Smith & Smith" which ran from 1979-1985 & starred comedian Steve Smith & his wife Morag Smith. I've heard that, supposedly, the first 2 seasons of that TV show don't exist anymore due to the tapes being wiped & reused for other stuff. Smith & Smith actually had a few spinoffs, one of which is the more well-known comedy series "The Red Green Show" (The character of Red Green, played by Steve Smith, had a recurring sketch on Smith & Smith.). Also, from what I've heard, a lot of old TVOntario shows from the 70's-90's can't be rerun, or released on DVD & streaming services, due to contractual & licensing issues, including TV shows like "Read All About It", "The Magic Library" & "Take a Look!". The only way to find those TV shows is to locate home VHS recordings of there episodes & also on the UA-cam channel "Retro Ontario".

This is a great video idea! For an eventual part two I'd like to add to the list also some Gormiti lost media.

Wow, it's not too often we see you have a guest on your show, LSSQ, but it's still cool to see nonetheless! :D I'm glad Sakura Stardust was able to provide some international lost media content of her own! Also neat to see that you made an opening exclusively for this video, especially loved the one with Sakura Stardust at the end! I think it's a great idea to see you dive into other lost media topics besides just American ones! While I've definitely have never even heard of My Special Book despite many of Canada's shows being aired in the US, it's nice that there are people out there dedicated to have the show complete one day! It is a shame that they won't air the original Doraemon anime for stupid legal reason, but I'm glad that fans are still trying to find all the missing episodes. Even though I myself have pretty much 0 interest in dubs (outside of maybe a few exceptions), mainly due to me wanting to watch the original where it originated from in its original language, I am glad that you've grown an interest in checking out dubbed content recently! I actually did first hear about the changes from the Arabic dubbed version of The Simpsons from a Censored Gaming video back in 2018, and, while I admit it is interesting to see, I do agree with Al Jean that there was so many different changes that it no longer felt like The Simpsons, as I've never liked that it had to be changed just to fit in the country's "standard". But, I digress. It's still great there are a dedicated fanbase willing to try, and find the remaining lost episodes of The Simpsons Arabic dub, so I wish them nothing but the best of luck! (You can check the Censored Gaming video here: ua-cam.com/video/OnEkFCzcKOI/v-deo.html I also highly recommend subscribing to Censored Gaming as they cover a lot of fascinating topics!) Hopefully the Filipino commercial Encarnacion Behaves can be found in its entirety as it does look pretty interesting, and even gives off a nostalgic vibe to me (even though I obviously never saw the commercial)! It's truly disappointing that BBC destroys copies of their popular media, but at least the Doctor Who fans are everything they can to try, and get the original DW TV series with all of its aired episodes, and here's hoping that they'll be able to accomplish that since the physical copies are decades old by this point! Another excellent lost media video! And I'll be sure to check out Sakura Stardust's UA-cam channel too!

When it comes to dubs, I am really only interested in series that were dubbed into English from another language, a well known series dubbed from English to another language with some changes or a version of a show remade in a different country with a different cast. One dub I have been interested in finding is the English dub of " El Secretario" (The Secretary), a Colombian TV series about a male secretary which aired from late 2011-2012. I live in the UK and one day back in 2018, I was flipping channels on Sky TV and saw an episode of it. I liked it as I thought it was a bit different than shows I have seen before. I watched every episode the channel aired until the channel went of the air in December 2018 before airing the final 5-6 episodes of the show. Using a VPN I managed to watch poor quality subtitled episodes of the last few episodes I missed, but it wasn't the same as seeing the dub episodes in high quality.
I have been looking for the dubs ever since with no luck finding any except the first few English dub episodes which are available online.

That Doctor Who part is interesting because we don't know how exactly those surviving 3 episodes of The Daleks' Master Plan ended up being recovered in the first place. As you said, Australia never aired those episodes and because of that the Australian Broadcasting Corporation never came into ownership of the episodes and they most likely got returned to the BBC, but no one knows what happened to them afterwards. The episodes were most likely held in the BBC's offices in London, which is how episode 2 was stolen in 1973, but the fate of the other episodes is completely unknown. A segment of Episode 4 was aired on Blue Peter, but apparently never got returned by the producers. That story about the other 2 episodes being found in a church basement could also potentially be false, as there aren't many details regarding both what church it was or how they got there in the first place. It's also worth noting that The Daleks' Master Plan was not offered to any other country, so it's very likely that the Australian prints are the only copies in existence.

If there were, I noticed that the bulk of the vlogs discussing them are predominantly from Spanish-speaking countries or Japan. That's not to say that other countries don't have lost media content. There were a few single sporadic airings in September 2006, December 2006, and April or May 2007. The show then aired more frequently but still sporadically between Oct 1 and Dec 24 2007. From what I've heard about how strict some arabic countries are with religious themes and how it's integrated into the law in some cases, I get why they would feel the need to go that far with the changes they made.
