My vision of a story on why this got like this: the bridge collapsed and the people in charge didn't think it was worth it to repair it because of how small the yard was and how little freight cars were in there, so it became abandoned and forgotten

So the correct term to use when calling rail track used for trains is 'railway', not railroad. The only time you can use the word/name railroad is when a city or town street or stretch of such road is shared with rail tracks that the train travels on in these streets. And there are plenty of such streets or roads around the world cities where trains share it with road vehicles, including most streets of San Francisco where rail track for trams are in the center. These are called railroads because it is a railway 'ingrained' with a road or street. You guys have lost touch with reality and commonsense, dragging your English language with it and then think you are educated when you're not, not even one bit if you can't figure out the difference between rail and road, when to say railways, when to say railroads and when to say roads.
