I think a few videos detailing just what the build/crew requirement changes are between the various classifications would be very interesting to a lot of viewers. I might suggest four videos in a series going over each of the classifications, under 24 meters, under 500 gross tons, under 3000 gross tons, above 3000 gross tons, and then maybe a fifth talking about what a passenger yacht (more than 12 guests) requires. Of course I suppose all this might fit inside one, slightly long video.
@@YachtsforsaleblogI was going to ask exactly the same question. Everyone say that additional regulations apply by going over 500 GT and over 12 guests, but I'm still not able to find anywhere the details about those additional regulations to meet. If you can do a video covering the topic, that will be awesome.
I think the Benetti B.Yond 37m should have qualified for this list. Under 500GT build of steel, and a 5000 nm range. Others to mention might have been Lynx new 32m project and Jet Tern Selene 128 (Nordhavn's main competitor).
Awesome vlog as usual..I thought you will include the Benetti B.Yond 37 mtr in the list.. I hope you get a chance to do a walkthrough... btw luv your.. what I would called your version of "out takes" at the end of the vlog...hahaha... fyi just made a penguin smile
On the Flexplorer? I agree! Actually there is a company that produces golf balls that are edible for fish specifically so that you can play golf off the back of a yacht!
Finally, speed, range and fuel quantity, listening to so many specifications that yachts can so many miles at such and such a speed without ever knowing how much fuel it can carry is so confusing, thank you for adding in this fuel factor.
All of these yachts tick the boxes for an explorer yacht, so it would come down to the look and feel of the yacht in detail, such as, redundancy of systems and as you said storage of food for longer passages , BTW I still love the X-treme 105 its beach club area is awesome, although its not in this league for world exploration. Good job team and look forward to the next blog. David Seal: Some say "he is master of UA-cam yachting blogs, others say he is David Seal with a wiggly bum", all I know is his channel is simply the best, better than all the rest.
Sea state also is a huge factor on range, so it's always a an estimate. Always to be taken with a pinch of salt, which I guess is a given in the middle of the ocean!
Would love your opinion on the Numarine brand! Definitely one of my favorite looking yachts and a huge fan of their styles. Haven't seen much info about how people like them though. Thanks 😊
Hi David, it would be beneficial for tall people like me if you could mention the headroom for all future yacht vlogs. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Great piece of reporting on a hot and very much topic of the moment. I love the CDM Flexplorer but my heart will go out to Bering. Nordhavn, in my humble opinion, is not in the league. Range at snail speed is faking it a bit, and also, no explorer should be made of 'plastic', even good quality plastic.
Love the Berings and the use of interior space they have, I wonder they could be specced to hold a submarine also? The CDM and Sanlorenzo look like great yachts also.
Loved the comparison. Thanks for including the Nordhavn. I like the brand, the only issue I have is the crew areas, they are just plain white walls with a wood trim. figuring if I ever get one, I would need a full time crew, that area is enough to turn me off. I think crew areas should be dressed up as well, somewhere between what guest area looks like and the plain white walls look. It just reminds me of a US kitchen in the ‘80’s and I hated that look back then. of the four, I’d probably go with the Bering, mainly due to having the flybridge.
Nordhavn is definitely a builder that puts practicality over aesthetics. They build great yachts, very seaworthy and a very successful brand....just not particularly pretty in my opinion.
If you want to see some better examples of nord have crew quarters look at the 86 and 96 nordhavn. Many of them have beautiful capt quarters behind the bridge and additional elegant crew quarters adjacent to the engine rooms
The range is calculated by engine efficiency over distance, so it isn't arbitrary. As for storage, the Nordhaven 120 has a tank deck for quite a bit of storage. In fact, Aquaholic did a rather thorough exploration of the 120 a year or two ago.
As far as I’m concerned David it is just a matter of time before I hire you to broker (and film) my Bering build. And it seems that quite a few of your UA-cam colleagues will be bought in to consult on the project
Great vid... I was just thinking over the last few days (dreaming) would I choose CDM or Bering... lol. I wonder what you think of Van Der Valk... seems they don't really have models on their website but I would think they could produce a yacht in this class upon request.
What type of yacht would be best for those who want a house boat but want to take their boat out into blue water to live full time? I think it would be cool if somebody bought up a Ticonderoga-class cruiser that is going to be scrapped because it was built in the 1980s to be convert it into a yacht, that boxy super structure looks very enticing with it's interior volume.
Very Interesting video though I always consider it to be the under 24m Load Line Length category followed by the under 200GT category and then the sub 500GT category.
I know it's only 362GT but I like the Numarine 37XP especially for the money ,but my dream for exploring the world I think I would need to have a customized yacht built for all the toys I'd want to take. Any ideas where to go for that David, another great upload sir thank you 🤗👌🖖
I have a question for you David since you know what clients like the best in their yachts when are you going to start your own yacht building company i know you know enough people to do this
Haha! I know from experience what a complicated and risky business that is...that's why I respect the companies that do it so much, and also why I would (probably) not do it myself. Never say "Never" though!
Hello David, it's a great idea to add a comparison sheet for this kind of video. Just a question I have about building for Explorers. Isn't steel still the strongest material for a yacht hull? An explorer encounters many dangerous things on his way. Thanks David.🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
I know there only so much time and so many yachts, but im surprised you left Benetti's BYond off this list. Or am i wrong, and despite its steel hull and aluminium superstructure, it not truly a go anywhere like the yachts you presented?
Another great vlog David, such great yachts coming out, Wow! It would be my dream to have a yacht with a helicopter. Have you been made aware of 'Samara' built by Pachoud yachts of New Zealand, which I consider to be an explorer yacht? I would love it if you could focus a little on what other manufacturers have been putting out beside those in Europe (which is obviously nearer you home and far easier to cover understandably). P.S. Did you bump into Victoria and Rico on your Bering visit and view their 75? I trust they were keen to show you all over it as they seems to be there a great deal? I loved the ending ✅🖖
Here you can get a Y3 certificate. Which allow you to sail a yacht up to 23 meters. Above this you need an education who takes 3.9 years..Easier is to hire a crew with a captain
Your spot on about composites. Minesweepers spring to mind designed for global use in extreme conditions. If anyone has hang ups about composites, they should check what the next airliner they board is made of.😊
I just double checked their website and don't see that stat. You're quite possibly correct, in which case they should really add that detail. I speak to Alexei and his team quite often, so I'll mention it to them.
I would bet that if these boats had diesel-electric hybrid propulsion systems, their range would increase drastically. That is of course, assuming they don't already.
Yep...big oversight on my part, although the 45XP is still some way off from being built. However...I'll be filming a full walk through of the 37XP later this year.
If you're going to make a video about Explorer Yachts under 64 feet, you'll find zero steel (aluminum) manufacturers and only one composite manufacturer, Nordhavn. Why? Maybe a cool topic for the next video?
What? You can actually use a yacht for exploring the world? I thought it only served as a chick magnet, for exploring photo models in Monaco or Montenegro.
So the one explorer yacht holds 26000 thousand gallons of fuel for almost 5000 miles that’s around 125 to 135 thousand dollars to fill up tank along with crew pay and other types of fuel for toys and other expenses like insurance etc docking etc this type of luxury isn’t cheap at all
There are no penguins in the North Pole. The polar bears would eat them if it were so. Penguins are naturally found in the Southern Hemisphere. Clearly Northrop & Johnson need to send you out for a week on an explorer yacht to catch up on your trivial knowledge. 😉 🐧
Nordhavn specializes in smaller vessels to be sure. The 120 was an anomaly. Just one was built and no others have or will follow for what ever reasons. Nordhavn focuses on what they do really well 40 to 100 ft vessels that really work. Many other explorer vessels never really go to the extreme places that Nordhavn go to. Just like wannabes who buy suv cars thar never see dirt or mud let alone go off reading. A Nordhavn 57 made out off composite materials made the north west passage. How many others of any material have done that? The Nordhavn won't get a beauty contest award by any stretch of the imagination they are built as capt steve says..like a tank..with a luxury feel. Nordhavn owners go around the world in 40 to 60 ft vessels how many shutter at the thought of doing that in a 40 to 60 meter vessel?. They just cruise the med or the Caribbean. Do they actually cross in thier yacht? No many would prefer shipping thier eye candy on a real boat . Nothing personal david just my 2 cents worth. I love your work
Bering is on the top of my wish list.
Me too!! The Bering 80!
🙋🏻♀️ in mine too!
Lazzara 87
Nordhavn 148 # is my top choice...

The details of Bering for safety and comfort are very nice.

Fantastic video, David; so informative and helpful. Thank you.

I didn't know that Slava was going to add the penguin in post-production...made me burst out laughing when I saw it!
Always look forward to your videos, David!
What a beautiful Yacht
This video is so good! and the infrographics and breakdown....wow!
thanks for upload
Love the videos. Will check this later. Personall, Bering Yachts has this area covered.
Thanks, David.
Another great video 😊
What a wish list to have truly fantasy boating 😊
Again thankyou for your service
Really enjoyed this episode
I love the large aft deck, it’s almost a backyard.. I see a piece of Astroturfing and mini golf, or decking and inbuilt seating.. Great for families..

Haha! I think only regular viewers will understand the "wiggly bum" comment 😂
Missing Numarine ?
great videos but you forgot to mention Numarine.
That's true! Although we are producing a whole series of videos about their products over on the Yacht Builders Channel.
Sea state also is a huge factor on range, so it's always a an estimate. Always to be taken with a pinch of salt, which I guess is a given in the middle of the ocean!
Penguins are South Pole 😉
Great video as always 👍🏾
Beering has the largest tank, so if you speed the yacht at 8kn only maybe it can surpass the 6000NM of that Sanlorenzo.
Would love your opinion on the Numarine brand! Definitely one of my favorite looking yachts and a huge fan of their styles. Haven't seen much info about how people like them though. Thanks 😊

they do have such opportunity - big crane (3 t) and spacy deck

I would have given Numarine a shout out too , also like the CDM darwin more than the flex

I have a question for you David since you know what clients like the best in their yachts when are you going to start your own yacht building company i know you know enough people to do this

What about Numarine 37xp?
Where is the video of Explorer Yachts that can be run by a couple... PLEASE PROVIDE LINK
I know there only so much time and so many yachts, but im surprised you left Benetti's BYond off this list. Or am i wrong, and despite its steel hull and aluminium superstructure, it not truly a go anywhere like the yachts you presented?
Ocean King would have been an excellent addition to this lineup. And we know there no penguins at the North Pole.

Take them all
What about Numarine ?? Wouldn’t their 37 exp be a contender ?
Watching for the third time now….
Here you can get a Y3 certificate. Which allow you to sail a yacht up to 23 meters. Above this you need an education who takes 3.9 years..Easier is to hire a crew with a captain
Thanks for the comment. Where is "here"?
Denmark
On the 65m we had a range of 9000 but the 75m, same engines, had 10,000 miles.
You failed to mention the Hybrid system on the Bering 145. This doubles the range of this boat. For the money I’m ordering a Bering soon.
I can't wait for people to figure out that there are no penguins in the north pole and that was the joke.
The funny thing is that so many people Googled your comment because they didn't know
Your spot on about composites. Minesweepers spring to mind designed for global use in extreme conditions. If anyone has hang ups about composites, they should check what the next airliner they board is made of.😊
You make a good point!
Bering did a vlog comparing the two and why he chooses to build in steel. I found it quite informative.
I belive Bering 145 has 12000 miles range in hybrid mode at 9kn.
I just double checked their website and don't see that stat. You're quite possibly correct, in which case they should really add that detail. I speak to Alexei and his team quite often, so I'll mention it to them.

ah I thought it was the price that hit you..😂
😍
If I were a billionaire, I would build a 222 metre long explorer yacht
Why not 223? Love your show by the way...
No penguins in the Arctic.

If I win the lotto I am gone.

Bering was featured heavily on the social media, now all the neophytes aspire to a very mediocre product.
Penguins live exclusively in the South Pole FYI
Penguins are only found in the Southern Hemisphere.
With the exception of the Galapagos Penguin.
Speak to much
Flexplorer please!
Very nice update. Thank you David. (🕞 🔋?)
