Active Body Control (ABC) is not air suspension. It is high pressure hydraulic suspension. The real claim to fame of the ABC was instant response to heavy cornering due to onboard accelerometers which gave feedback signals to the ABC system which would instantly pump up the affected side of the car effectively giving a flat cornering experience. One other interesting note, because of the ABC, the vehicle does not have nor does it need anti-roll bars that just about every other sports car around has. He is correct though that the ABC is notoriously afflicted. My personal experience with my 2004 S600 was with the ABC hoses, specifically the "pressure hose" part number 220-320-57-72. This was a strange, dead ended hose that was reportedly a sort of shock absorber for when the system saw sudden high pressure spikes in the system. The hose would provide just enough expansion to handle the pressure until the event was over. The problem is this hose was not adequate to handle these high pressure spikes and would often and suddenly fail leaving you stranded. I am now the proud new owner of a 2007, 50,000 mile S65 AMG. However this time I'm going in eyes wide open.
@@porschet5898 I think it was more problematic on the east coast where they have harsh winters and large pot holes after that. I think it’s a pretty good suspension system for the average climate areas.
Yes I was informed it’s hydrologic suspension now thanks to the comments! I know nothing about it those were to owners words. Considering how amazing that car runs and that he hasn’t had any problems with it it seems solid to me!
@@DerdsBackyardGarage Hydropneumatic suspension. Invented by Citroën, currently deployed by Mercedes and Rolls Royce. It stops the car from pitching on acceleration and dipping on braking, as well as maintains a flat profile in turns. Mercedes has advanced this technology to now include front-facing cameras and LIDAR scanners to pre-load the suspension and “iron out” bumps in the road ahead. They call it “Magic Body Control"
Is it appropriate to laugh at a 3 year old comment? ABC is great when everything is new, these cars are all roughly 20 years old now. Rubber hoses get weak, seals fail, pressure dampeners fail, it’s all expensive. Not to mention the ABC pump itself is no longer available from Benz. If you do your own work and want a factory original car, more power to you. Otherwise, it doesn’t make financial sense to maintain.
That interior is specced to perfection. Black exterior is also classic, especially in such a good shape as this car is, but I'd have a W220 in the dark purple that they came in.
Absolutely thanks for the advice. I’ve taken this into consideration after I’ve heard a lot of people say this and from now on (starting with next weeks video) all startups will be included!
Lol I was about to say ABC isn't air ride, thats only on the E class, but I guess so many people beat me too it 😂😂😂 but they only S/C the M113K but moved to the 6.2 N/A till 4L V8 in 2013 I believe.
Lol thanks for saving me the comment 😂 that’s good to know I don’t know much about Mercedes. I’ve always been a classic car guy but am trying to branch out to new horizons 😂
Hi guys. Have you had any troubles/problems with the gearbox after the modification since the gearbox is limited to 738pft and now you have 840pft?! I'm thinking about to do a minor modification on mine, but I'm afraid to ruin the gerabox if I pass the 738pft limit! And what kind of tune did yo do? Just a basic chiptune and kept everything else stock? Thanks in advance for answer.
Great car selection for your video! Love this car for the sheer fact that it’s so limited and so inconspicuous. For the money, it’s better than any new car (of same value) you can buy. A super car in full luxury!
@@DerdsBackyardGarage I’ve only learned about AMG’s just 3 years ago and fell in love with MB! I now own a 2004 S55 AMG and really have the itch to get a s65 as well! It’s just such a sleeper 😬 If you do your own work on your cars, then this is a lot of car for your dollar! You just have to know what you’re getting into (ABC suspension, coil packs, breaks, and motor mounts.). Those are the high solar maintenance items. Otherwise an amazing car! Probably a future collectible.
This is one of the few Mercedes I’ve been able to drive in and I must say AMG has outdone themselves. One day I hope to add one to my collection as well. Hopefully soon you’ll add an s65 to your collection!
200k car plus options, everything is hand built , leather hand stiched , engine built by one engineer that signs it. The only car that comes close to this in 2006 is bentley flying spur. Nothing else.
Wheres buddy getting his stats.. ABC is not air its hydraulic suspension and when it works it works well. It keeps the car flat in all situations. Meaning it doesnt lean in corners, it doesnt squat on take off, and it doesnt dive under hard braking..Yes it has its problems as far as hoses failing after a while. What do you expect the system operates at 2000psi.. Another thing he had wrong is the car doesnt way 5500lbs it ways 4900lbs. Which is a big difference.
that car doesn't weigh 5500lbs lol. Check google, it weights 4,730. So only 195lbs more than a Charger Hellcat but considerably slower. It may be luxurious but it ain't that fast compared to modern cars.
Non event...nice guys... but very slow pace on the video. No amount of ' wow's ' can make up for an otherwise uneventful video. Try this if you have getting to sleep....

With my 600 I only had to change the accumulator on the right side. Other than that great suspension..

ABC is not an air suspension it's a high pressure hydraulic suspension system
Thought the exact same thing when I heard it, it kills me how many people don't know that.
Especially for someone that owns the car. Clearly he doesn't work on it himself.
Stop hating on ABC. It’s not an Air suspension. It is also not flawed.

The S65 is a pretty baller Benz.

I love this W220 S65 AMG very much!!! I hope can see more exterior and interior about this one. LOL
Thanks for the support! I didn’t film any more of the interior this go around but I’ll be sure to make another video soon with more!
This car is designed to pass the asshole who’s already doing 120 on the highway.
I can confirm that statement
How about some reviewers with product knowledge.

Just did coilover conversion on my 03 CL55. Drives almost like stock. Wondering how W220 AMG would feel like with same coilovers...
That’s a great question. I was wondering the same thing when we were driving this vehicle.

What I wouldn't give to have that Renntech package. But don't think I want to pay 5 grand for an air intake.
More videos with s65 amg
Working on setting that up now. Thanks for letting me know what you want to see!

I love my 07 s65
Looks stunning..
Thanks so much. The owner really takes care of his vehicles.
my dad has one it has 712 hp and 933 torque
Wow that’s amazing! Do you know what he’s done to it to add that much power?
Approx how much?
When they were new this would have gone for most likely around $200,000. Now I’m not sure! I can ask the owner
Hydraulic suspension not air suspension.
Uuumm I broke 125 in my 2000 Lexus LS400 many many times🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah how long you take tho? years?
😭😭😭^
Btw his type of LS400 is legit an ugly copy of the W140 S-class, the legendary generation before this one.
Tons of inaccuracies in this. Do some research on your vehicles and get the facts right.
