Sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
As a used car at $25k, you still have to budget $3-5k per year for tires and maintenance. Remember, this car was $220k brand new so it has to be maintained as such. I have an '09 and it's key to maintain it at a MB dealership and keep up with repairs to have an enjoyable car. Also, flush the ABC fluid system regularly or you will be replacing these expensive components (google it!).
I completely agree with you on the driving experience that you get from a special car and that sometimes that experience costs some money. That Mercedes S65 had a way of making an ordinary drive to the store much more exciting. It had a way of making a traffic ladened highway relaxing and peaceful and of course I got goosebumps with every cold start. Thanks man for watching and for making that comment!
I have a "regular" 2007 C216 CL600, non AMG trim (M275 engine). I bought it 6 yars ago for around 18 k€, but I knew where I was going, since I knew the owner, and therefore, the car. Had the whole maintenance record. Once I bought it, the first year was indeed quite bumpy, but mostly because the dealership didn't do proper maintenance. First week : all the coolant spilled on the road because of a cracked heater valve. Part cost 40 €, labor 70 €, plus coolant. Then, I still had a main coolant leak : main radiator, 600 € parts + labor. A few months after that : gearbox wouldn't shift properly, flushed the transmission, got better for a while, then died. Had to replace the solenoid plate + connector, at a dealership, for around 1100 € : no sign of transmission oil change in the history (it had 150 000 km at the time), so that may be the reason. But the worst was yet to come, a well known failure point : the coil packs. When we bought the car, it as 147 000 km, but I couldn't see a spark plug change on the history. I should have changed them right after getting the car, but my loss. Worn spark plugs strained the right coil pack rail, and took the HV transformer with it. 1300 € for the coil pack (instead of the 1850 € quoted), 635 € for the high voltage transformer, and 24 new spark plugs, 24 silicone boots, plus labor (and a new serpentine belt). Oh, also, cracked front right wheel, for three years. Lucky for my, I could have it repaired, and balanced nicely. What saves me is that I have a very good independant mechanic who knows these cars very well and works as well, or maybe better, than my local MB dealer, and at a fraction of a cost. Also, many parts can be found online (not the coil packs / HV transformer though) for cheap as well. It's been three years now, and I haven't done anything super expensive since. It runs well, I enjoy it, and plan to keep it (it isn't worth much anyway). 517 bhp / 850 Nm is plenty for me, it sounds great but not too obnoxious. Maintenance is indeed expensive, but when I see the cost of regular service at VW, Renault or Peugeot dealerships (here in France), I consider myself lucky with a TT V12. But you do have to know what you're getting into. My car is a weekend toy, not a daily, so there's that.
well after watching this, I'm super happy I became a technician not worrying about someone else's labor and only mine. if I wasn't it would be much harder to justify having my 08 s63. But I got into this career because I love cars so much and working on them is a joy and a great challenge in the end. We drive a car every day to do our daily routines and I can't stand not having a car I enjoy driving every day. Mercedes definitely grew on me more and more when I worked there for a few years training to become a tech, and man once I stepped into that 09 SL 63, and turned on that glorious M156 I knew I had to have an AMG.
I own a 2012 pearl white s65 amg renntech v12 biturbo...I LOVE THIS CAR. ..beautiful, comfortable, fast,fast,fastttt...maintenance??..well its Mercedes S65 once u push start engine button u are in heaven 😉😉😉
5k a year for maintenance of a V12 car seems pretty reasonable to me. I was expecting 10k+ tbh, so I guess owning one of these wasn't as expensive as I thought.
My basic takeaway, which I already knew and practice, is to have your Benz checked-out by an MB dealer or certified mechanic before you buy it.. The biggest expense was the brakes, a maintenance item, which easily would have been visually diagnosed in a pre-purchase inspection. Lastly, living here on the California coast I didn’t think any of the prices were exorbitant for what is in actuality...a super car!
I learned a long time ago that having a fancy car only brings stress to your life. You have to watch for door dings, scratches, dirt, kids messing with it... So now I drive an old S500 4-matic. Practically never wash it. It's got rust and paint flaking. I don't care. It's comfortable and quiet inside and that's all that matters to me.
I totally agree with you about fancy cars and the stress they bring. That's exactly why I felt that Mercedes S65 had to go. Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video too!
I went for the S320 V6 of 2003, in 2016 it had 170kKm and now 250kkm…! What a silent and confortable car! No matter how dirty...and Low cost parts! i got both front brake disks from brembo for 60e! And braking pads from brembo for 45e...air cond comp is 280e...4x tires from Michelin hurts at 650e...it s' a super ride ! Air suspension never changed! Only the air comp for 180e...of course! It has quite à low consumption of 8-9l on highways and 12l in city...Can run on GPL, or sp85...for cheep refull ! And costs around 3-4ke nowdays....before reset up the car ! Now i keep it for ever i hope 😎✌️ Everyone should have an S class...and feel so much more peacefull behind the wheel 😜
@@jeanjean376 Heh, I wish I could say the same for the S500. Front pads and calipers alone cost 750 eur aftermarket, originals would have cost near double.
That was a beautiful car! I have an S600 W221 model and I've done a lot of work to the car. I've had it for just over 2 years now and I've been thinking of maybe replacing it with something else but I can't think of another 4 door car that I'd rather have and like you, I was actually looking for an E55AMG before i bought the S600. Looking forward to seeing what you get next. All the best!

Us V12 guys gotta stick together! 😁 Sad to see it go
Cars for me is a sickness. I started a list of the cars that I have had since I started driving legally in 1965. I have had 53 cars. Wish I had had half of the money that I spent on them today. I still love buying cars!
My friend Roman told me about this channel. I really enjoy the way you present and I love your genuine approach. Thank you for your content. (Signed: Your new follower)
My dad spend 10k on the Lexus LS460L same years just for minor things in one year. Here the list: Bushings, Tires Sensors, Fuse Box, Control Arms, Diagnostic, Deleted All The Christmas Tree Checks Lights, Tires, Breaks, Speed One Sensor, Parking Sensor (for a LEXUS) Not to mention another 9k asking price for four air suspension that we refused to do before selling it. Now imagine owning this Benz for a few more years.
Honestly all of those services, except for the brakes ( $2000+ is definitely an ouch), were actually relatively reasonable or even cheaper than I thought. So I'd assume a S63 would probably be a bit less due to them being a bit more available
Everything he explained was actually quite cheap compared to mercedes benz service stations here in germany - their mechanics take 150$ an hour so an oilchange is stupid expensive to begin with.
I know that one had to be bitter-sweet to let go of, but on the flip side of that coin, you got most of your money back out of that car... if we ignore the whole up-keep part of the equation. Makes me wonder what's next for the garage??
Hi Chris thanks for the upload I have actually been looking up for this video. It's a good idea selling off the car, good luck on your next project, which we would be expecting.
Funny you said that because it's exactly how I felt my entire ownership time with this Mercedes. I felt like I was just waiting for something super expensive to break.
Kingsukram Wow sorry to hear that bro what were the issues u were having? I own a 2006 Lexus LS430 so far so good just regular maintenance drives brand new every time I drive her that’s why never getting rid of her she is a keeper 😎
Got a 2003 CL55 with supercharger which I got recently. Was looking at e55, ended up with CL. I do my own work even major jobs. If I had to pay a shop for everything I wouldn't be able to afford my 300zx twinturbo and an AMG car.
Gorgeous car...I love the looks. I’m just too damn poor and cheap to ever own such a car. For less that the cost of the brakes you got a nice Buick! On to the next one.
Man... this guy isn’t a UA-camr. He is a guy who has a UA-cam channel. He missed uploading so much good quality content on this ownership experience. Still, I keep coming back to see if there’s new vids cause the content is ok, usually there’s no more videos though.
The first year of ownership is often an expensive year due to the maintenance back-log the previous owner lacked doing. What a shame to do it away after a year.
So all of those costs were pretty basic stuff. Basically everything you had to do on this car is something that any performance car would require. None of the "special Mercedes stuff" broke on it, is what I got from the video. Not bad. Ironically keeping it longer may have actually been the better financial move. I post this having bought an 04 E55 in June 2020 and just bought an 07 S550 a few weeks ago so I'm living the E55 and W221 life at the moment.

I couldn't agree more. That Mercedes was a very expensive lesson I learned. I think if I ever get back into another V12 like this one I 'll be better prepared next time.
OK, you got it in 25.000USD and how many smiles you got with 5.000USD???? Please do not cry, be happy with this exclusive and UNIQUE car!!! 5.000USD, great, I would pay more to have it at the limit as a brand new car.
You never buy these type of cars as an investment. I have a 2006 SL55 with the P30 performance package. Only 43 of these cars were ever ordered and sold in the US. I paid $25K w/65K miles and I set aside $10K for preventive maintenance. After 4 years I have spend $22K on preventive maintenance an Renntech upgrades. I have more into the car than it's worth. I don't give an F because the car gives me so much pleasure driving it everyday. It had a $143K MSRP and thanks to the wealthy 1st owner who took meticulous care of the car. You don't by a car as an investment, you buy these type of cars for the pure bliss they provide for 1/4 of the new MSRP. Please don't discourage others who have the dream - FCP Euro or other wholesale parts stores cost 1/2 of dealership priced. Also learning to work on these cars helps a lot too.
First problem, he didn't do his research of the car AND (1-3?) owners. Why would you buy a S65 AMG from a seller are willing to put a logo.com on this car/windshield for performance, hello? Finally, I believe the SELLER never cared for this CAR! Now you are paying the price.
Ah man this would've been an exceptional road trip car! (Unless something broke in the middle of nowhere, you probably wouldnt be able to get parts at Autozone...) Glad to see the new owner is already cherishing it.
So true Brad. I really had plans to take some adventures with the car and make videos along the way. Just wasn't in the cards. And you're soo right about not getting parts at Autozone. All lessons learned. Practical Cars Forever!
@@hullinger I mean losing 5k in a year on a car sucks but imagine how much the original owner lost in depreciation in the first year alone...Gotta be at least five times that!
Your cost analysis makes one thing clear: $2900 for rotors and brakes out of the $5000 you spent in the year. A car with so many horses and so heavy is going to eat up tires and brakes. That’s a given. A six liter engine is going to require a lot of oil for lubrication. None of this is a surprise and is just routine maintenance.
Hey Chris, I'm just back from my "2020 USA Replacement Motorcycle Tour" in Greece. I would have liked to come to the USA ... but it just doesn't work :-). Maybe you saw my last motorcycle video from greece about it. I watched the video about the Mercedes with interest. Well, we're probably in the same boat. Your Mercedes spare parts are expensive. I had to invest heavily in the Vic before I could drive it. In addition the tiny virus ruined our travel plans for both of us... Greetings to you and your family ....from Frank from Germany
What is your "asking" price on that restorable Corvair van in your garage ?!? BTW - were the VAN versions included in Nader's "Unsafe At Any Speed" rant ?!? Many THANKS Yo ! 🔎💰💰🔍
the 1958 coronet was a u.s only and it wasn't a plymouth, dodge was a plymouth clone, in canad, that car would have been called a mayfair, built in the windsor plant as the plymouth, american plymouths, were made in detroit and the dodge was made in hammertrack, mich. (a g.m plant now)
The thing to remember is that the parts for these 2007-2010 S65 are getting scarce and will push people way. the AMGs are special. An S550 would be better for the buck if you don't want the AMG.
its a simple trade-off. if you dont want to pay an extra $5k a year to maintain your high performance, formerly cutting-edge V12, dont buy a high performance, formerly cutting-edge V12.
Dude your tag is low enough to get a black and white stainless or you still might be able to put that number into retention at dmv if your selling the merc ... then order the stainless and your set to transfer it (with the retention paper) to your next ride
Too bad you’re not into doing your own maintenance and repairs. To me that’s part of the pleasure of owning a car like this, and you save a LOT cost wise, plus knowing that it was done right.
Why do people expect Hyundai Accent maintenance and repair costs on a high performance German luxury car? The car itself depreciated to $25,000.00 but the cost of maintenance and repair didn't.
In all honesty the oil change is normal. The cats were outrageous you could have just did magnaflow for less than $200 for the cats and just have someone weld them in. Now the brakes were definitely outrageous though
Wow I had no idea it was that expensive for maintenance for those. I know that had to hurt to let it go but if you're not enjoying it that's $25 grand just sitting there. I'm sure you'll put that money into something you'll enjoy...
I was guessing all those parts were double from what he was saying. They only made 400 cars. I drive a CLS 550, that shares parts with a the E class, and they made millions of them across the globe and my parts are not cheap. I paid 650 bucks for my brakes. I bet if I priced a thermostat it would go for 300 bucks
No offense meant however these cars were never meant for those who even look at the cost of servicing, all due respect. Many of those charges you thought were astronomical were too bad at all.....It was the pinnacle of Mercedes Benz not Toyota.
I think a warranty would have totally been worth while. It may not have been a money saver but it would have at least given some piece-of-mind during my ownership. And that would have totally changed how I treated and drove that car. My whole ownership time with this Mercedes had me nervous that something really, really expensive might break at any time.
Thanks for checking out my Mercedes S65 video. The exhaust is completely stock with exception of the catalytic converters, which are high flow 800 cell cat's. Really gives it a great sound at start up but still docile and quiet inside the car.
to be fair 200 bucks to change oil is fine people spend more per year smoking cigarrets i used to smoke easly was blowing 3.000 euros a year just on tabacoo
Shades of Horror - Revisited. My S55=AMG Car ALWAYS needed something. Nice car, yes, but the Wallet suffers for owning it. Glad to be rid of it forever. Sayonara Mercedes. No more nightmares going forward.
The sound of a million angry bees swarming out the exhaust....LOL. While these are nice I honestly be scared to drive one long tern due to the cost of upkeep for them, now that Corvair sitting next to it I would daily that van as much as I could.
Krystian C. That's funny you said that. I have a 2007 Yaris. Manual with 247,000 miles on it and still running really well. I'll still be driving it in my afterlife.😁

@@dixonrenyin95ugo Thanks bud! I appreciate you checking in and yeah, things are good here. Hectic but good. It seems that I go through these phases where I just have no interest in UA-cam and making videos, than after a while, it passes and I slowly start getting back into it. In fact, I was an an auction the other day and filmed what I saw there. That video will go live Saturday morning and it gave me the taste of making videos again. So thanks for checking in and for your note. I really do appreciate that! -Chris
Next time get the e55 more reliable one of my favorite cars
NICE VIDEO ON THE CAR HERE IN PA IN BAD HERE I HOPE YOU ARE DOING GOOD DOWN BY YOU GUYS
Yes we are too. We've gotten pummeled all week long with rain and really crazy storms. It's continuing today too.
Awesome video bro
This was an awesome car can't believe you sold it
Beautiful car! But beauty comes with a price... Thanks for sharing the story.
I couldn't agree more. That Mercedes was a very expensive lesson I learned. I think if I ever get back into another V12 like this one I 'll be better prepared next time.
That's a great number for the most expensive MB during that time.
Your video is exactly why I sold my Audi. The cost of ownership was just too high to be a daily driver.
Audi's the worst...I really don't know why...
SMART MOVE: Definately High-Maintainance for such Low Use.. Glad You Were Able to Cut Your Losses.. See Ya Next Video 😎
Ah man this would've been an exceptional road trip car! (Unless something broke in the middle of nowhere, you probably wouldnt be able to get parts at Autozone...)
Glad to see the new owner is already cherishing it.
Greetings to you and your family
....from Frank from Germany
Great job! 🍾🍾🍾
What is your "asking" price on that restorable Corvair van in your garage ?!? BTW - were the VAN versions included in Nader's "Unsafe At Any Speed" rant ?!? Many THANKS Yo ! 🔎💰💰🔍
هذي تصلح للخطوط فقط وتعبيها بنزين 95 ㉦ ❤
the 1958 coronet was a u.s only and it wasn't a plymouth, dodge was a plymouth clone, in canad, that car would have been called a mayfair, built in the windsor plant as the plymouth, american plymouths, were made in detroit and the dodge was made in hammertrack, mich. (a g.m plant now)
I still don't understand why you didn't do research on the cost of maintaining a Mercedes.
Thats because he has stupid money to burn.
My S600 owes me now about $10k USD including 2x sets of tyres and everything since Dec 2018 -so not too bad, but the first years always a lot more $$$
is the twin turbo V8 easier on maintenance cost? have also been looking for e55 AMG
Now it's time for aE55 wagon!
Where did you get that chart of sales
The thing to remember is that the parts for these 2007-2010 S65 are getting scarce and will push people way. the AMGs are special. An S550 would be better for the buck if you don't want the AMG.
What is the UA-cam channel of the guy that bought this?
Smart move selling it & did you ever get a chance to see how fast you could run her up too
Hey Shannon, yeah, glad she's gone. I did run her up to 100 MPH but never really got to open her up and let her breathe.
@@hullinger as dam bro that sucks
@@hullinger I did 120mph in mine, she glided on the highway
its a simple trade-off. if you dont want to pay an extra $5k a year to maintain your high performance, formerly cutting-edge V12, dont buy a high performance, formerly cutting-edge V12.
Dude your tag is low enough to get a black and white stainless or you still might be able to put that number into retention at dmv if your selling the merc ... then order the stainless and your set to transfer it (with the retention paper) to your next ride
What color is that?
Cant you get aftermarket parts for the car?
Too bad you’re not into doing your own maintenance and repairs. To me that’s part of the pleasure of owning a car like this, and you save a LOT cost wise, plus knowing that it was done right.
Also No shit. Hahahahaha
I need this car if anyone knows where I can get this car please let me know
Why do people expect Hyundai Accent maintenance and repair costs on a high performance German luxury car?
The car itself depreciated to $25,000.00 but the cost of maintenance and repair didn't.
When are you going to sell that PPV caprice ??????? And How Much Would You Sell It For If Or When You Sell It ?????
Hey man, that Caprice is next to be sold. I was thinking i might list it in the next couple days. I figured I’d list it for $7k and end up at $6500.
East Coast Classics let me know when you post it please ...... and Great Videos Brother You’ll Be At 1 million Subscribers In Due Time God Bless
In all honesty the oil change is normal. The cats were outrageous you could have just did magnaflow for less than $200 for the cats and just have someone weld them in. Now the brakes were definitely outrageous though
That $5k could've bought a few Crown Vics....
So true man. It sucks that Vic's rarely show up at the state auction any longer.
@@hullinger Interesting... Was Gonna Buy a Vic. If I Didn't Get My Ranger 2 Years Ago, Now it's time to Replace The Ranger.. Thanks For The Heads Up..
Wow I had no idea it was that expensive for maintenance for those. I know that had to hurt to let it go but if you're not enjoying it that's $25 grand just sitting there. I'm sure you'll put that money into something you'll enjoy...
it's like everyone buys these cars, keeps them for 3000-4000 miles, thinks about the maintenance, then sales them.
I’m stuck between this s65 and an S63 amg
I will always have this car on my watchlist , but before i get one i will get an E55 AMG.
I mean one you do stuff like this…it’s bulletproof until the next 25-50,000 (in that area)😅
how was your space trip JEFF?
Soooo did you have to walk home?
Wow. Those are expensive parts. Overall you got most of your money back. Well done,. What's next???
Couldn't aftermarket catalytic converters work instead of OEM cats?
Yep work exactly the same
I was guessing all those parts were double from what he was saying. They only made 400 cars.
I drive a CLS 550, that shares parts with a the E class, and they made millions of them across the globe and my parts are not cheap.
I paid 650 bucks for my brakes.
I bet if I priced a thermostat it would go for 300 bucks
And ... not once did you ever mention in the video or comments what year the car is. Assuming it's a 2007?
delaware is probably like mass., with california emissions.
he's gonna pick up a bunch of new subs i predict
No offense meant however these cars were never meant for those who even look at the cost of servicing, all due respect. Many of those charges you thought were astronomical were too bad at all.....It was the pinnacle of Mercedes Benz not Toyota.
Do you think a Warranty that may have covered those Repairs would have changed your experience with the Benz?
I think a warranty would have totally been worth while. It may not have been a money saver but it would have at least given some piece-of-mind during my ownership. And that would have totally changed how I treated and drove that car. My whole ownership time with this Mercedes had me nervous that something really, really expensive might break at any time.
No. No one sells a warranty for a V12. You better have some money when it breaks down. I use to own a 600SEL so I know.
dope video...i want s65
Have a 09 s65 amg for sale is interested
Great video if you want a luxury car not as fast get a used Lexus LS 460 you can’t leave that in the rain enjoy it and drive it
The ? Is are they fun to drive compared to an AMG? My guess would be hell no!
what did u do for the exhaust
Thanks for checking out my Mercedes S65 video. The exhaust is completely stock with exception of the catalytic converters, which are high flow 800 cell cat's. Really gives it a great sound at start up but still docile and quiet inside the car.
S55 amg owner . It's a scary thing but a bucket list car. I'll make a few bad decisions with it I bet .
Haha, yeah, these AMG's know just how to push folks into making some bad decisions.
There is NO SUCH THING as a cheap Mercedes. That said they are awesome machines.
to be fair 200 bucks to change oil is fine people spend more per year smoking cigarrets i used to smoke easly was blowing 3.000 euros a year just on tabacoo
Cant believe that someone want to sell this
That’s awesome. Where do I sign up! Lol
5k is not bad for an annual maintenance.
Mate I'd regret selling that car so bad. Damn!
What the full amount lost including the registration fees?
My left and right buttcheek
I think im good with my 2007 Yaris
Haha, I don't disagree.
Krystian C. That's funny you said that. I have a 2007 Yaris. Manual with 247,000 miles on it and still running really well. I'll still be driving it in my afterlife.😁
