    Love the hat!!!!
    For some reason, all I make are ribbed brims.... The rolled looks great!
    I'm with you, NO magic loop!!! 😉
    I've always considered you my "go-to expert", so happy to see the things that the things I guessed on are correct!!
    I was always taught to 'loop' instead of slipknot when casting on, when joining, slip (pass over?) the loop over the last cast on stitch (putting that last stitch back on the right needle) then knit... Then there's no "jog" & no "bump"... If that makes sense....
    I also just drop the loop on a straight edge, then corner isn't 'tight'.
    I learned that as a child, and that's more years than I want to admit to ago..🤷

    Thank you for this tutorial! I am going to start my hat today, your video feeds my enthousiasm and the confidence that I can do this. My first fair isle project... on my first 40 cm (16 inch) circular needles. Thank you for putting your time and effort into sharing your knowledge in your very clear and spot on videos. I learn so much, and it adds so much to the joy I get out of my knitting.

    Hi-great video, thank you. I hav made this pattern twice now, once with worsted weight yarn, using a #6 16" round needle, casting on 112 sts. the hat is huge. I ordered the yarn as instructed in the pattern a din this video. It is much larger than what yours appears to be. I am not a loose knitter. Am I doing something wrong? Are you using a smaller needle than a 6?

    I like the look of fair isle and get excited about trying it. I just can’t get my brain wrapped around reading a chart. Are there any patterns that don’t have charts only?

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  2 роки тому

      Fair isle patterns are usually charted to show the different colors. Charted patterns that show stitches (not colors) are often available in both charted and written instructions, but I don't think I've ever seen a fair isle pattern with written color instructions. With practice, I promise - chart reading isn't so bad. :)

      @@verypinkknits thanks! I am actually modifying the size just a bit to make of these for my great-niece. She’s 4, and already a little clothes diva…she loves her “fashions” and she’s gonna love this hat! In measuring her, she already has a 20” head circumference, so I checked the yarn( from my stash… it’s Anne Geddes by RedHeart. I used it to make a kit Afghan for her before she was born. It works up beautifully and washes well) it’s a #3 size yarn, just a tab bit smaller than Worsted, but it still used a US 6 to determine its gauge. I simply am knitting Rounds 1-10 instead of 20, and am following the pattern for the Chart and decreasing the top! Hopefully it’ll turn out as I figured it will(Math is not necessarily my forte! Lol! If it turns out, I’ll post it and #you. If not, we’ll, I try again..thanks again!

    Stacy I have a question. Can you use the chiaogoo shorty needles the blue package to do the crown instead of dpns or are they still to long. Appreciate all your tutorials

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  2 роки тому

      The shorties will work for a while, but they will be too long once you get down to the tippy-top of the hat. So you'll have to switch to DPNs (or magic loop) at some point.

    Is there a difference between "fair isle" and other methods of stranded/colorwork knitting? Just curious about the semantics.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  2 роки тому +2

      This website has a good explanation. We kind of use "fair isle" as a general term for color work involving two different colors of yarn in a single row/round. kelbournewoolens.com/blog/2017/06/stranded-colorwork-vs-fair-isle-knitting/#:~:text=Stranded%20knitting%20is%20a%20type,round%20to%20create%20a%20pattern.&text=In%20Fair%20Isle%20knitting%2C%20only,the%20back%20of%20the%20work.
