The warranties are fine, but the issue is if the manufacturers stop making anything other than simple spares after a few years. I'm looking at you, LG! Washing machine in perfect condition other than a dodgy control board, which is unobtanium.

Some of them are only a parts guarantee so you still have to pay for fitting.

That's correct, you need to pay close attention to this before purchasing an appliance.

Extended warranty by the manufacturer no, but through insurance or harvey norman yes, at least you get your money back and get to choose another brand to your liking. 10 years warranty mean nothing if your appliances breakdown repeatedly even after fixed, as if you have the free time to deal with it.

I select appliances for my rentals based on quality, longevity & most importantly warranty length

I've always found warranties odd.... it's like the company saying they'll give you a certain amount of time to let them know that THEIR product effed up.... because warrenties dont cover the consumers effing up.... only their own!!! Warranties shouldn't even be a thing! Make good quality products and stand behind them.
Also, it would help if warranties were clearly defined and understandable to normal consumers.... if my ice dispenser has a two year warranty and it stops working after a 1.5 yrs... I send it off... they say I didn't change the filter soon enough.... so it's not covered under warranty (which b/s like that happens a lot) it's essentially a scam....
If I lived in the uk I would definitely buy from you! You seem honest and kind!!! Keep up the good work!

It’s not a scam, it’s economics and planned obsolescence. Companies could make durable products, but they need to keep selling products. If products didn’t break down or develop faults they’d be out of business.

Been quite lucky to have never needed a warranty claim. I did replace a drain pump (oem £60) once on a 10+ year old Bosch washing machine and a passthru water heater on a 3 year old Beko (£30) dishwasher. Both consumable service items.
Only buy Bosch now as I would rather have a shorter warranty and not need it.

One of the first things I look at is warranty - I always go for at least 5 years

We had a Miele washing machine that had a 5 year warranty. When it was replaced after 10 years a replacement Miele only came with a 2 year warranty despite the price premium. We didn’t buy it as they had no faith in their own product.

Absolutely. You need to be careful though as some manufacturers only provide parts leaving the customer to foot the bill for the labour. So barely worth the paper its written on.

It depends, like everything else in life. How much is the premium we're paying for such warranty, when we compare the prices between equivalent devices with different warranties? Same with energy consumption and usage. If you're a single person it's sometimes not a good deal to pay much more for an energy efficient washer or dryer, for example.
Also, other factors need to be considered like the complexity of the equipment (simpler devices can be fixed by yourself), the cost of replacement / repairs, if it's something that gets obsolete after a couple of years and you'd like to replace it sooner than later etc.
I would not pay twice as much for a toaster just because it has 5 years of warranty instead of 2, for example. I might pay 10% more for a washer/dryer with lots of electronics if it comes with 8 years of warranty instead of 2 or 3. Not sure I'd pay extra to have 4 or 5 instead of 2 because I live alone and it's unlikely a washer will break in such interval. Same with extended warranty (add on). If they're selling you extended warranty, they're covering the average costs plus their own costs plus their profit just to spread the risk. I'd rather save that money and take my own risk as I am a user with lower than average risk as I don't have a family of 5 people.
Sorry, my comment got too long.

Most of the time the extended warranty’s are very limited and you have to pay their high labour costs so do not really consider them too much

I have decided to only buy used, even if the warranty is offered, the service offered by manufacturers is often very poor, it takes a huge amount of time to get the problem fixed because they knowingly make life difficult. I would ratehr buy a used product from a local retailer who i can trust and will carry out any work by themselves.
The last new product i bought was a brand new LG washing Machine with a 5 year warranty. But now i would rather buy used, even though our washing machine is brilliant.

No because it only covers parts and you pay labour that can work out expensive cheaper in some cases to buy a brand new appliance

Any appliance should last at least 5 years and mid range and above should last 10-30+

I have a question which I'm struggling to find an answer to. Prior to Brexit, EU law mandated a minimum warranty of 2 years on consumer goods. We were told that leaving the EU wouldn't disadvantage consumers but I suspect that was just another lie to hoodwink voters. Do you know what the UK law is now regarding consumer goods?
