  • The 2017 total solar eclipse made its way from Oregon to South Carolina. Fourteen states were in the path of total darkness -- the first time a total eclipse covered such a wide swath of America since 1918.
On one hand, an eclipse is an astronomical event, a coincidence of satellite size and location. But it’s a cultural experience, too: a moment we can’t help but imbue with meaning.

I saw this solar eclipse from Massachusetts, I remember thinking "I need to wait for 2024 for the next one? 7 years is in FOREVER"
Well here I am, 7 years later. It feels like 7 years is a long time until you actually experience it!
I will watch the 2024 eclipse but this time in the path of Totality.

I live in Toledo area Ohio. I was able to see that it got a little dimmer, but nothing noticeable until I saw the before and after photos I took. Wasn’t anything special from where I was, but still cool to see through glasses. Just ever slightly it covered the sun. Me and my friends watched it together on their trampoline. A special time. I was young and 18. I thought the same…2024? I’ll be 25! And here I am…25. And now I’ll see it for real 🙂 space… is so special to me. Nature and space phenomenons. It has a special place in my heart. It just makes me emotional.

It was my first total solar eclipse and on this Leo's 32nd Birthday!!
Leos are ruled by The Sun you know 🌞😻BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!
It was the most amazing experience of my life seeing it in Beatrice, Nebraska in that crowd of more than 10,000 people while Bill Nye the Science Guy was narrating what was happening. It was so emotional because his show was always there throughout my childhood and he was standing on the stage only a few yards from me, teaching us all while we felt that unforgettable childlike excitement again💖
On that day, I became an eclipse chaser. It reminded us all just how beautiful nature can be. We were all so worried about the clouds obscuring the eclipse and at the last moment, the clouds parted and let us see it in all its glory. The Sun is 400x the distance from Earth as the moon and yet the moon is approx 1/400th the apparent size. I am not a Christian but if that 'coincidence' isn't divine, I don't know what is.

I was in Chicago when I experienced the 2017 eclipse. Clear day, decided not to look directly at the sun, but when I saw the darkness happen - I was astounded myself. We had about 60 to 70 percent totality in Chicago when the eclipse peaked - but in scores of other American towns that got hit with 100 percent umbra (or "totality"), it was like day quickly turning into night in 2 or 3 minutes! When it was all over, it was going to be something I will remember for a long time.

There are no words to describe the raw emotion you feel when you see totality, but NPR did a good job capturing some of it. Everyone owes it to themselves to see the one in April 2024. GO! DO IT!! You owe yourself that experience. I'm glad I drove 10 hours from Texas to see it. Can't wait for 2024 when it's in my back yard. :)

I'll never forget them, telling stories about them and watching the videos I made along with the ones like NPR's videos for inspiration for the rest of my life. Yay! Great eclipse and cool video showing so many people enjoying it. I feel sorry for those who missed it due to clouds, and hope they have better weather next time. Minor downer that some people used it to push their supernatural religion on others instead of leaving it inclusive and welcoming for everyone.

    • @PeaceLoveHonor
      @PeaceLoveHonor 6 років тому +2

Jon, while I take your point, I don't think anyone was consciously pushing their religion on anyone else, merely seeing the event through their own perspective. It just seems that no one else of another belief needed to frame their reaction that way. Being inclusive also means being tolerant on the other side. Namaste.

If you want to understand the eclipse, it's simple but simplex. Study these three gentlemen, and you will find your answer. Ken Wheeler, Santos Bonacci and Stan Tenen. You will see that it is all related to how a Torus Field works. Peace, I now know the Truth! Abundance, Balance, Harmony, Peace, Tranquility and One Love Brothers and Sisters.....

The Eucharist in the Catholic Church is just like this. The great equalizer. Everyone come to the table. Rich, poor, black, white, sinner or saint. Come to the table and be unified to the Cosmos by being unified to the Creator God who is Jesus Christ. Amen.

A lot of people were interviewed. The fact that you extracted one person as being notable says more about you than about one person being in the video.

the color grading on this video is awful

I wonder if it was meant to mimic the way bright colors appear more muted during an eclipse. To me, the color grading gave the doc a certain tone and mood that was rather fitting.
