I am a left handed airsofter, and using a 1911 replica as a sidearm for years, and I've been doing this for years. When I took a real steel 1911 for the first time two years prior, I worked like a champ with it and the instructor was shocked. Of course the 45 ACP kicked a little hard back then, accuracy was horrible, but as long as talking about the muscle memory, airsoft is one of the ways of earning it.
Got a ? On your aiming ? I am right handed and when I shoot I have my left eye closed while aiming and shooting.
So do you left handed people aim and shoot with your right eye closed and aim with you left eye before you shoot ?
@@wolverinesoldier6355 I'm cross eye dominant. So I'm taking the pistol just a little bit right to line up with my right eye and shoot with both eyes open. I got used to it. They say you can cant the pistol a little if you are cross eye dominant but if I'm not shooting with my dominant hand only, I'm not canting the pistol. Even then the canting angle is so slight that it is barely recognizable. If I have to take an extremely far pistol shot (like 45 50 meters, I know it isn't that far but the farthest distance I train on a regular basis is 25 meters) only then I close my non dominant eye.
I'm a simple man, I see a Vickers Tactical video uploaded and I click. Larry if you ever order one with ambi controls I'd be glad to take that Wilson Combat or any other Wilson Combat you have off of your hands. Functional and reliable pieces of art just more than I'm willing to spend at the moment. Some day though I'll own one of these gems. Keep up the great content!
I am a left handed shooter and have fallen in love with 1911s. These tips are appreciated 😁
Man Larry!!! I've used to watch your show on the old sportsman channel aroun 2010ish. Just come across your UA-cam channel. Nice to see your still gettin'er done!
I'm a lefty myself and looking to get my first 1911. That's what led me to this video.
Larry your looking good dude, you lost some weight didnt you?
As a left handed shooter who shoots a SR1911 I found myself naturally doing this. I'm glad to know I've been doing it right the whole time lol.
I’m a lefty edc is a kimber and I use the trigger finger. Great vid
The things that Larry forgot about guns is not worth knowing.
I love your channel, to the point with good information! Learned a lot from you, keep up the good work. Cheers.
Thanks!
Great video being a lefty I have learned to shoot with both hands since most firearms are set up for right handed. This helps thanks!!!!
I'm a lefty and constantly drill taking it off saftey while drawing developing that muscle memory is key
Another quality video. Thanks Larry and everyone that makes these great videos possible for all those that cannot afford to spend $ but want to always train and learn!!!🇺🇸
I don't know if anyone noticed it but he didn't laser the camera guy when showing the features of the 1911 near the beginning of the video. Fucking love it. The little details
Larry has taught me another thing once again . As a left handed shooter I appreciate this so much , may Allah swt bless you brother .
Love from Karachi , Pakistan 🇵🇰
Nice video -- greetings from Brazil
Hey LAV you look great! Hope it adds 20 years to your life we need men like you in our society!
Rick
This is why I love my dan Wesson specialist, all controls are enlarged/extended and is ambi making it much easier to function the pistol even when weak handed. It also just makes it a joy to shoot :) so smooth like glass and extremely reliable, dan Wesson 1911, my favorite 1911 for the money :)
I had a 1911 safety disengage in a holster because the right side lever (the ambi part) was exposed (as it is in any holster) and was rubbing on a backpack. I since prefer left side only setup. It's not a problem to manipulate the safety with the left hand, so ambi is just not worth the risk and extra parts for me.
Thank you for the tips, I'm a right handed but i prefer to use my left hand when use a weapon because I've problem with my right eye and most of the weapons isn't user friendly with left handed and I hope in the future there's many video tips about left handed in this channel.
Been shooting in each hand with each eye for 35yrs. My buddy Wes and I each learned to shoot two 1911s at the same time. Used to one hand my 10 shot 870. Theatrical youth. Now I don't have a good range nearby nor the drive to make one in this basement.
Perfect tip. I had no real issue using a 1911 and I'm left handed. If anything, I think my greatest issue with it is the backstrap safety. Any tips for getting that dealt with?
Awesome video thanks for the info
Thanks for the tip Mr Vickers and the knowledge.
Excellent Tip Larry Appreciate it 😎👍🏼😊👍🏼
Lav I enjoy your work keep doing what you doing sir you are a legend to me I enjoy your videos an I never fired a gun or shoot one I'd love to meet u one day an shoot a couple of guns with you
Greg, find a local range and take a beginner class. Most places will even rent you a gun so you can practice. Cheers
Neur0bit thanks sir
AAAaaah ! Finally some veeeeery interesting video ! I'm really pleased to have your toughts about some shooting techniques ! (want more of this... please ?)
Thank you Larry!
I'm left-handed, "not-right."
It's good to know manipulation of common firearms. AK, 1911,etc...
Lefty is an advantage for the AK imo, you can just rack it without having to flip it or reach under.
@@vexrich You shouldn't reach under for A.K. You reload with your right hand while using the left to plant the rifle into your shoulder.
@@007turtle1239 I would trust that less than retaining a hand on the grip. But I'm not right handed.
@@vexrich I'm just relaying the Soviet manual of arms.
@@007turtle1239 oh so you're communist
man u upload the best videos both in content and editing....
Great tips and keep cranking them out!
looking good Larry. Great instruction as always.
Got a ? I am right handed. When I shoot I have my left eye closed then aim and shoot.
So do you left handed people have your right eye closed and then aim and shoot with left eye open, or would I still keep my left eye closed and aim and shoot with my right eye, like I do right handed ?
Lefty power! YEAH!
Have a left handed girlfriend so always nice to see more ways to manipulate firearms. Also makes me have to learn both righty and lefty.
I enjoy watching your videos because even if I don't own one of these fancy guns, when the time will come I'll find one on ground and know what to do with it :)
Thanks Larry!
Your definitely leaning out Larry keep it brother and if it's possible in the future can you show the tactical shotgun some love it's a great weapon in the right application but everyone disregards it
Thanks Larry.
Great tip for new and or a reminder to 1911 shooters. Is WC going to build this configuration for public purchase? I have a full size VT 9mm and it feels great in the hand.
youre looking great Larry!!
Dude Larry is looking good
LAV... You're the SHIT! Thanks for the content and tips!
I think it’s easier for a left handed shooter to have to switch over and manipulate a 1911 with weak side hand, because we’re then just using it as the gun was designed. Probably harder for a right hand shooter. They’ve never had to learn how to adapt to things not made for them.
What about left hand operation?, not everyone is right hand dominant
Always good advise,...practice practice practice. At least that's what I been told.
Another quality tutorial, looks like you've dropped a bit of beef LV, looking good sir 👌
Thank you for this video. Would like to see some more, not just the safety, but also mag changes and such in this scenario. I carry an M57a sometimes and that slide mounted safety gives me nightmares. At least I can rack it off my belt thanks to the commie sights.
My air gun is easier to use left handed because the safety is on the right side where my left thumb is, and to press the release lever, you can use your index finger. But with right hand use you press the release lever with the right thumb and release the safety by placing the gun in your left hand and use your right hand to release the safety
Hey lav . Looking slimmer these days. Nice work. Tp out.
As a lefty, this is old hat to me.. because for a long time it was very hard to find a 1911 that was ambi.. now manufacturers have come around and either offer ambi safety 1911’s , as well as a plethora of after market ambi safeties to retrofit your current 1911 rather easily
Nice video, Larry do you have a comfortable ear pro recommendation that is under $300 ? Thanks.
Not offhand
Are you waiting to reset until you are almost back on target vs after you break the shot
How can I get one of those BCM/parabellum hats?
Go to the Bravo Company USA website to order
Can non-US citizens come to the USA and participate in your classes?
Only with ITAR approval
Thanks Larry, just a little confused regarding the ITAR approval. I am an Australian Citizen, looking at training from an individual safety perspective and not representing a company or military. I know the US and AUS have treaty agreements, is the main issue sharing US knowledge with a outside counterpart? Thanks mate
Or, just purchase a 1911 with an ambidextrous safety or install one yourself.
That way you don't have to break your fighting grip with your weak hand.........
But hey, to each their own.
By the way, I love 1911s! Best fighting pistol ever made.
I could watch that slow mo all day. I would love to see a 30 minute long video of just slow mo.
Hadn't thought of doing the trigger finger bit
Great tip. Quick question.......if I am a right handed shooter using my right eye, when I shoot left handed, should I switch eyes and use my left eye to aim? Thank you for your service.
No use your dominant eye always
If you're shooting a rifle left handed you kind of have to use the left eye... maybe not with an optic mounted super high up I guess
In all honesty bro, you should try to use BOTH eyes to shoot. I train with real world scenarios in mind. Think about it when in a life and death situation and you only have a matter of seconds to neutralize or be neutralized, the last thing on your mind will be which eye do I close and which do I keep open.
Sick Gameplay
I prefer to just avoid using the safety entirely, my homie.
Larry what's good brother. When are we battling on the range?
On a single action weapon like a M1911 carrying without the safety on isn't the best idea.
Why can't some of the gun manufacturers make a left handed 1911 for left handed shooters I believe theres a market for it
why don't you simply add a lefthand safety? As a lefty, I can't believe every firearm manufacturer in this day and age does not manufacture all their firearms to function equally well for right and left hand users.
As a lefty myself I find it easy to run a 1911
I know when I'm shooting my facial expression changes at least a little bit. His doesn't change at all. You know this man has put many many many .45 rounds down range haha
How bout right hand manipulation I'm dom left hand shooter have ambi safety on my pistol
I like it great info
Larry the most awesome gun channel guy on UA-cam
Inside ak5 plz
Are you point shooting? Are you right or left eye dominant? Or is there some other kind of technique your using to get accurate shots on target? Thanks Larry, you are awesome.
I’m left eye dominant
Vickers Tactical Got it. Thank you sir.
So if your left eye dominant isn't this video about training opposite side?
fps _iron This video is about left handed 1911 manipulation. In the video Larry teaches us two ways to disengage the safety of a 1911 without an ambidextrous safety with his preferred method of using the index finger rather than the thumb. If your right handed than it's about using your opposite side and if your left handed than you could choose the technique that best suits your needs to strengthen your strong side technique. I see where you are coming from and I believe we should all try to become as proficient as possible with our non dominant side.
Yes, but then shouldn't Larry be training with a left handed 1911? I understand he's training to use safety and mag release with his index finger but his eye/point shooting isn't coordinated
Do a review on msmc or its latest version jvpc
Can you do it??
At night under fire, and in the rain? That’s mad my friend, and the worst possible situation.
How would you perform reload in one handed situation?
re holster with mag well facing out and trigger guard not all the way seated in holster, place the new magazine in the gun, then rack with your knees. or an easier way would be bring the gun in-between the knees with mag well facing out. place loaded mag in and then rack off your knees... only reason i don't mention belt or boot racking is bc Novak rear sights aren't the best for those styles of slide manipulation
Thx
Hi Larry! just got my new Google account subbed to you and had a question, what is the cheapest per shot (under 5$ a shot-factory load), cheapest rifle it self (like under 5k :P) best BC/velocity/ft lbs-energy for shooting elk at 1500+ yards???
Nice video Larry. Thanks for sharing. PS: You're looking great brother. Nice and trim.
I love their training. They ignore the fact that they don’t make a LH 1911. Other manufacturers do. Just buy from another brand.
im left handed my 1911 has a ambo safety for good control one handed.
Just noticed this 1911 is shorter than the regular one being a 9mm.
Yes it’s a Commander length pistol
Imagine being left-handed 😂
Larry went keto!
that looks like a new model..... Larry?!?!
great quote at the end.... " You want to figure this out now and not later, under fire and in the rain."
All gold. Aren’t you a southpaw, anyways?
No - left eye dominant; right handed
I noticed your aim was at ease and that explains it. I also am LE/RH, but found I could shoot more accurately using my left hand. One reason why I went with HK P30 in .40 so my son and I could use the same pistol - everything ambidextrous.
Vickers Tactical I'm a new shooter and I've only been doing this for a couple months. I recently found out then I'm also left eye dominant right- handed. Do you have any videos on your channel that discusses this topic of how to manipulate a firearm when your dominant eyes opposite of how you shoot?
Try shooting left-handed. I absolutely cannot hold and fire a rifle right-handed - always left-handed since a kid. Holding a pistol left-handed was comfortable. The only other thing I do left-handed is drink..remnants of some ingrained drinking game.
No way I inch my hand up a bit to gain a better grip with my fingers around the handle and use the thumb the other way seems like I'ma drop it way more at least for me I have small hands
WILSOOOOOOOOOON!
or just use a pistol with internal/trigger safeties
I was born with a handicap, I’m left handed, which sucks being a lefty in the gun world
Never realized how off shooting left handed looks at least for this guy loo
Tom Hanks could not have fired it better in private ryan
Please can u teach us how to reaload the m 16 with left hand
Do a video on your thoughts about the NRA.
God damn, you lost weight.
Being a lefty, I just use an ambi safety on mine.
J HB Always train for the possibility of there not being one.
مسدس راقي
Oh come on Larry, every Infantry solider loves to go in and learn on the fly. Just kidding
We shouldn’t have to manipulate, or deal with this stuff. All gun manufacturers should be as understanding and as smart as H&K. Glock is starting to follow suit, and a good number of Sig products as well. It’s kind of messed up to tell all of us left hand or to just deal with it and not have the same experience as you.
I want to name your left hand.
OK?
Do you like the name Napoleon?
wow, you have lost lot of weight
1911......in 9mm.......
Have you lost some weight Larry?
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
I'd like to propose gun owners be required to be a member of a civilian regulated state militia. Safety, Training and exams will be at its core with professional instructors. Exemptions for antique or certain hunting rifles. Think of gun ownership as a martial art, concealed weapons permit> black belt. It wouldn't be marching or field drills this is 100% about discipline, and self defense. You would have to have a certain number of hours training under professional supervision before you are able to purchase and keep a weapon in your home, very much like getting a drivers license. How to apply this retroactively will require debate. Dealers could only sell to licensed individuals. All input welcome.
That would cause a civil war. Which I guess everyone would be in a Militia then. Anyways people who have jobs and work every day and also have firearms are just not gonna give them up without a fight, and most of the Military is going to support them.
nothing in there says anything about giving up your guns, could you reference that?
Please read and comment
So the gist of my proposal is it, I believe, will take any weapon out of the hands of anyone that would prove incapable of safely handling it, and maintain the ability to keep assault weapons, both semi and full auto as a stringent training requirement that is neither arbitrary or capricious may satisfy the 1934 license( id like to suggest 3 years for a modifiable semi auto assault style weapon and 5 for full with continued training) as only handguns and hunting rifles are truly currently protected without what I believe requires a ruling from a court. I do believe this guarantees our right to defend against a tyrannical government in todays time and still secures an individual right to bear arms.

Jaime Caetano v Massachusetts 577 U. S 2016
10 U.S. Code 246 Militia: composition and classes
The right to keep and bear arms report of the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, Ninety-seventh Congress, second session
These are the findings of the supreme court
1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a
firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for
traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defence within the home.
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.
(a) The Amendment’s prefatory clause announces a purpose, but
does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative
clause. The operative clause’s text and history demonstrate that it
connotes an individual right to keep and bear arms
(b) The prefatory clause comports with the Court’s interpretation of the operative clause. The “militia” comprised all males physically
capable of acting in concert for the common defense.
(f) None of the Court’s precedents forecloses the Court’s interpretation.
Neither United States v. Cruikshank, 92 U. S. 542, 553, nor
Presser v. Illinois, 116 U. S. 252, 264-265, refutes the individual rights
interpretation. United States v. Miller, 307 U. S. 174, does not
limit the right to keep and bear arms to militia purposes, but rather
limits the type of weapon to which the right applies to those used by
the militia, i.e those in common use for lawful purposes.
The Court has held that “the Second Amendment extends,
prima facie, to all instruments that constitute
bearable arms, even those that were not in existence at
the time of the founding”
2. Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited.
It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any
manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed
weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment
or state analogues.
in Lewis v. United States, indicated only that "these legislative restrictions on the use of fire arms" a ban on possession by felons were permissible.
The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast
doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by
felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms
in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or
laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of
arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those
“in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition
of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons
My Ideas:
I would like to propose all owners of bearable arms and members of the militia as defined per 10 U.S. Code § 246 be required to train to a specific standard of safety, proficiency, and annual training and testing under a certified professional to be set by the state. Furthermore, what type of weapon you may have may depend on test score or time training, again to be defined by the state, as well limited to a single weapon for home defense.
While 1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ET AL. v. HELLER also says 2. Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in ANY MANNER WHATSOEVER and for whatever purpose. Safely and proficiently is most definitely a manner of bearing arms, training and testing being the only way to guarantee them. Lewis v. United States, a ban on possession by felons is permissable, and a failure to comply can result in a loss of rights.
The 2008 Heller decision of the individual right to possess a firearm being unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home, is redundant in that they also state it is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose, making anyone that bears arms, milita or not, responsible to maintain an unspecified manner and purpose.
United States v. Miller, 307 U. S. 174, does not limit the right to keep and bear arms to militia purposes, but rather limits the type of weapon to which the right applies to those used by the militia, i.e., those in common use for lawful purposes. As "militia” , again redundant, comprises all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense, not in conflict with title 10, every gun owner is subject to this ruling and the state is able to limit what kind of weapon can be kept at home for defense, barring handguns as theyve been ruled as a constitutional right by the 2008 decision(hunting rifles have precedent as well). I think they could limit it to one weapon for home defense if theres a provision to keep other weapons in a militia armoury of some type as The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. Since we already require background checks and a license as a barrier to ownership, another certification isnt a problem but limiting how many guns could be bought would definitely affect laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. It was also determined the trigger-lock requirement (as applied to self-defense) violates the Second Amendment as in the place where the importance of the lawful defense of self, family, and property is most acute-it would fail constitutional muster. Similarly, the requirement that any lawful firearm in the home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock makes it impossible
for citizens to use arms for the core lawful purpose of self-defense and
is hence unconstitutional. This makes requiring a safe impossible unless it was only for additional weapons besides the one primarily used for home defense.
Prima Facie I believe the meaning of responsibility to maintain an unspecified manner and purpose is to act in the manner and purpose of a militia. I believe any pre 2008 mention of "militia'' can be interpreted as comprises all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense. I think our Framers intentions as to what that would be can be found following and is quoted from the subcommittee report cited.
The subject was introduced by George Mason, author of the Virginia Bill of Rights, who later opposed the Constitution, but who now maintained that uniformity of organization, training and weaponry was essential to make the state militias effective. His hope was that the need for a standing army would be minimized; perhaps only a few garrisons would be required. Mason's opinions were shared by Madison, who gave this analysis " The primary object is to secure an effectual discipline of the Militia. This will no more be done if left to the states separately than the requisitions have been hitherto paid by them. The states neglect their militia now, and the more they are consolidated into one nation, the less each will rely on its own interior provisions for its safety, and the less prepare its militia for that purpose, in like manner is the militia of a state would have been still more neglected than it has been, if each county had been independently charged with the care of its militia. The discipline of the militia is evidently a national concern, and ought to be provided for in the national Constitution"
ben harris that would be a huge negative my man. Training is up to the individual and what you are proposing is still a form of infringement. To require someone to do continual training and join a milita because the have a semi auto rifle is pretty out there. I'm all for training I'm shooting 220 days out of the year but that's my job. Your can't tell a single mother of 2 working 70 hours a week she needs to be in a milita in order to exercise her RIGHT to self preservation.
youre right we cant require membership of any group but i still believe training is viable try this one out
And that's why I like Glocks, you can shoot them right or left handed no problem
Thanks Larry!
