Fun Fact: In the movie, Batman uses his grappling hook to shoot at the wall behind the Stungun Clown and pulls a chunk out of it to knock him in the back of the head out cold. And you can do that exact same thing in this game!
Batman didn't knock that guy out, he killed him by crushing the back of his skull with that chunk of concrete. He also killed the strong man with a bomb. Burton's Batman had no qualms about taking a life.
@@johnnihil1689 no, that guy was definatley alive, Selina used tbe taser he dropped on him after Batman saved her. (She kept the taser, which was used at the end of tbe movie)
You know you're old when you understand this concept but younger games don't. Just like in games where the bosses don't have visible health bars would start to flash (the faster the flashing, the closer they are to 0HP). Man, I'm old - I never thought of someone not understand this concept.
@@AJR-zg2py I think that might also have a bit to do with how most beat-em-ups eventually followed Streets of Rage 2's lead (or it could've been Brawl Brothers' lead; both games came out in '92 and I somehow doubt Sega/Ancient and Jaleco were comparing notes), and instead of sort of 'masking' how much HP an enemy had if it went over the typical max, they just told you EXACTLY how much health was in each and every bar, and also typically gave some sort of indication as to how many bars they had left. Or in the arcades, they'd often just show a giant health bar for JUST the boss in a special section of the screen. When I start thinking about it, beat-em-ups didn't actually do that "show health bar but hide exact health value" thing for very long at all, did they?
Just a tip for boss rushes like this: if you press the L or R buttons to guard (which is really pointless), it resets Batman's standing combo chain and you can keep pummeling bad guys almost endlessly with the first two punches. The hit timing is different with bosses, though. Keep that in mind.
Beautiful graphics, satisfying thuds from combat, enemies and locations straight out of the movie and incorporating the Danny Elfman soundtrack... yeah, I loved this game.
Fun fact, the jumping Dive attack has armor. You can jump into the Organ Grinder’s bullets and they’ll bounce off, but I think they still do some damage. Obviously that’s not optimal, you’ll do way more damage with 3 punches -> grab -> 2 headbutts -> Throw / Wall Throw.
Catwoman is quite easier than you made it. Just always face her and she will use the whip, if you try to walk away from her she will close distance and kick you. You want her to use the whip often so you can dodge, close distance punch 3 times (not the full combo with the kick! Just pop, pop pop) walk into her to pick her up, let off the d-pad, punch 3 times again, and on the fourth, he'll throw. If done right, it should be a 7 hit combo with no real risk.
Did you know with the stun gun boss, if you shoot the grappling hook on the wall during the beginning, and pull back, it'll make a chunk of wall hit him and remove a decent amount of health?
This looks like it was done on Normal mode. Impressive all the same, but Mania difficulty is where you earned the best ending possible; the bosses had considerably more health, too.
I think it was done on normal mostly to simply show the bosses; games in the 90's were starting to cut off the story early for completing the game on easy - take Streets of Rage 3, after the axel clone boss - if you beat him on easy, the story ended right there
