Even if you didn't like any of their games, you have to admit, Nintendo had the best presentation of the bunch. Hardly any CG trailers, no one standing on stage for a half hour talking about bundles and speaking in salesmen-talk, tons of gameplay footage, hardly any filler (maybe the Amiibos, but that's it). This is how an E3 conference should be done.
Seeing these three and their unbridled, actual excitement for video games seriously cheered me up today- there's nothing like watching the snark melt away into glee and genuine giddiness

I don't hate the tablet, I just think of it as the Kinect. It's a useless peripheral, that doesn't need to be there and is just adding unnecessary cost. Without it, the system could be a hundred less.. I don't think I'm alone in thinking this.

If future digital events are more like this than I am all for Nintendo continuing to do them. The other conferences were a snooze fest compared to Nintendo's. Job well done.
It's because Nintendo realized that by focusing only on E3, they cut out the fans from the experience. That's why they have Nintendo direct and major game announcements that have nothing to do with E3; they know that investors don't matter as much as the fans who wait for new content.

This entire presentation felt like they were speaking to US as gamers, and not to shareholders and other corporate interests. They had fun with it, in that sort of light-hearted way that Nintendo does so well. For the most part, they showed ACTUAL game footage, and just enough to pique interest. This was a masterful performance! Been saving to buy a Wii U for Smash, now I've got at least a half dozen more reasons to justify that purchase.
This little event shows Nintendo actually DOES know how to be relevant and connected to gamers, and they did a much better job than Sony and MS this year who were far up their own ass with talk of cold corporate metrics. FUN is the only factor that matters, and Nintendo is FUN!

Sony and Microsoft try hard to compete but because Nintendos gamea are all console exclusive to just them and are the underdogs they can have fun and not need to try as hard to.be cool as the two others duke it out. Nintendo knows its fanbase especially after the iwata and reggie jokes and death stare luigi. Say what you want about them rehashing shit but they know what sells and listen to the devoted fans not the ones bitching over another mario because regardless the games sell like nuts.
But this may also be why they're having such a hardtimereaching out to anyone not already a hardcore fan or at least partially interested. They can keep their fans but they can't get new ones which is actually rather bad for improving sales,only good for keeping themselves afloat and the current owners happy.

I think I've finally hit it. I've seen all three presentations and all throughout all I've just being " =| ". Kind of feels empty I don't feel anything for new games anymore.
Like... I know WHY the Wii U failed now that we have so much hindsight. But coming back to watch this E3 presentation it makes me wonder. I mean, holy crap, Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade X, and Star Fox Zero teased, Woolly World, Rainbow Curse, and Captain Toad shown, Bayonetta collection shown, Smash Bros. 4 content, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Maker... Freaking Splatoon reveal! These were all AAA titles. This one e3 contained enough must own games to make the Wii U an instant buy for me and to this day its one of my favorite consoles of all time. I'm well aware it had issues, some still affecting it today (like NAND chip issues), but it had so many amazing games, the best virtual console library ever, free online play, Pro Gaming with Smash and Splatoon, and even had decent third party support; Arkham, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Darksiders, Skylanders, Assassin's Creed... I have a Switch, PS4, and gaming PC now, but I still regularly revisit my Wii U, and it actually sits center of my entertainment center right under the TV.
Wii U has gotta be my favorite Nintendo console. While the first party games were't as frequent as other Nintendo consoles, I'd say they had some of the highest quality. I still use it mainly for Virtual Console. Having an online subscription for online multiplayer is pretty normal now, but why that's the only way their retro games are available, I have no clue. They should be available individually for sale too.

2014 nintendo direct has to be one of the best direct they have done. We got hyrule warrior, smash U announcement, wooly world, ORAS, bayo 2, splatoon, xeno X, and freaking breath of the wild initial trailer.
Gotta say the Nintendo conference felt warmer than the others. It wasn't just rambling on and on like the other conferences, and Nintendo didn't require outside star power. Everyone in Nintendo is already a star.
I think the best way to put it is as Boogie2988 said, Xbone and PS4 were great conferences, no doubt about it, but they felt like more business as usual. Nintendo felt more like a non-stop joyride the whole way through and it really was.
I try not to play in the "console war", as I believe every console have good titles, but this conf was my favorite by far. Short, straigh, no bullshit on stage, seems more aware than ever of how people feel overall about them and gaming / internet concerns and humor. Gj nintendo.
One thing I really like about Pat is at around 32:52 he says "I fucking hate Canvas Curse, but I know people love that shit." Compared to someone like Arin Hanson who hates Skyward Sword and doesn't know that he might offend a lot of people by saying so because he doesn't know a lot of other people like that game, Pat is a cool fucking guy.

Yeah, Sunset make look colorful, but at it's heart is a standard TPS. You are still shooting and killing monsters with bullets. With Splatoon, it changes the main goal of a TPS, and makes the main point of Sunset into its secondary goal.
Hey man, Sunset overdrive still looks fun as hell. The trailer was one big "fuck you" to modern day games on the PS4/Xbone platforms, which makes sense since they have to differentiate themselves. The Nintendo platforms aren't flooded with the Brown Shooters and thus don't have to make such a large point about it.
Commander_Ninja I know, I agree with you, but Splatoon looks like a far more spoton attempt at moving away from the typical FPS games, Sunset Overdrive got the whole happy, colorful stuff but since it is still a shoot to kill game, it looks like playing Team Fortress through the eyes of the Pyro, while Splatoon uses the FPS gameplay with creative elements that make the colorful stuff far much fitting. I still think that Sunset Overdrive is great, but I think I'm more into the Splatoon gameplay

I think I've finally hit it. I've seen all three presentations and all throughout all I've just being " =| ". Kind of feels empty I don't feel anything for new games anymore.

Like... I know WHY the Wii U failed now that we have so much hindsight. But coming back to watch this E3 presentation it makes me wonder. I mean, holy crap, Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade X, and Star Fox Zero teased, Woolly World, Rainbow Curse, and Captain Toad shown, Bayonetta collection shown, Smash Bros. 4 content, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Maker... Freaking Splatoon reveal! These were all AAA titles. This one e3 contained enough must own games to make the Wii U an instant buy for me and to this day its one of my favorite consoles of all time. I'm well aware it had issues, some still affecting it today (like NAND chip issues), but it had so many amazing games, the best virtual console library ever, free online play, Pro Gaming with Smash and Splatoon, and even had decent third party support; Arkham, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Darksiders, Skylanders, Assassin's Creed... I have a Switch, PS4, and gaming PC now, but I still regularly revisit my Wii U, and it actually sits center of my entertainment center right under the TV.
Wii U has gotta be my favorite Nintendo console. While the first party games were't as frequent as other Nintendo consoles, I'd say they had some of the highest quality. I still use it mainly for Virtual Console.
Having an online subscription for online multiplayer is pretty normal now, but why that's the only way their retro games are available, I have no clue. They should be available individually for sale too.
So does mean we can expect Two Best Friends play Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash Bros Wii/3DS on Friday Night Fisticuffs or Super Best Friends Brawl?
I freaking hope so.
I would like to see a Two Best Friends Play Bayonetta playthrough before they tackle the sequel.

2014 nintendo direct has to be one of the best direct they have done. We got hyrule warrior, smash U announcement, wooly world, ORAS, bayo 2, splatoon, xeno X, and freaking breath of the wild initial trailer.
Whelp. You did it Nintendo. You've convinced me. I didn't wanna do it, but now, I gotta buy a freakin Wii U.
Gotta say the Nintendo conference felt warmer than the others. It wasn't just rambling on and on like the other conferences, and Nintendo didn't require outside star power. Everyone in Nintendo is already a star.
I think the best way to put it is as Boogie2988 said, Xbone and PS4 were great conferences, no doubt about it, but they felt like more business as usual.
Nintendo felt more like a non-stop joyride the whole way through and it really was.
This is the only presentation that has made me want to actually go out and buy a console as opposed to being more than satisfied with my PC. God damn.
This makes it a fourth time I've watched this Direct (once myself, twice with other people, and now this one), and I continue to be hype every time.
I knew it... Woolie's reaction to Yoshi's Wooly World was a must-see.

I try not to play in the "console war", as I believe every console have good titles, but this conf was my favorite by far. Short, straigh, no bullshit on stage, seems more aware than ever of how people feel overall about them and gaming / internet concerns and humor. Gj nintendo.

Compared to someone like Arin Hanson who hates Skyward Sword and doesn't know that he might offend a lot of people by saying so because he doesn't know a lot of other people like that game, Pat is a cool fucking guy.

That Splatoon game looks awesome, and it nails the happy-colorful-shooter thing better than Sunset Overdrive does
Yeah, Sunset make look colorful, but at it's heart is a standard TPS. You are still shooting and killing monsters with bullets. With Splatoon, it changes the main goal of a TPS, and makes the main point of Sunset into its secondary goal.
Hey man, Sunset overdrive still looks fun as hell. The trailer was one big "fuck you" to modern day games on the PS4/Xbone platforms, which makes sense since they have to differentiate themselves. The Nintendo platforms aren't flooded with the Brown Shooters and thus don't have to make such a large point about it.

I know, I agree with you, but Splatoon looks like a far more spoton attempt at moving away from the typical FPS games, Sunset Overdrive got the whole happy, colorful stuff but since it is still a shoot to kill game, it looks like playing Team Fortress through the eyes of the Pyro, while Splatoon uses the FPS gameplay with creative elements that make the colorful stuff far much fitting. I still think that Sunset Overdrive is great, but I think I'm more into the Splatoon gameplay
