Looks like it’s a really hard way of doing the springs in that process, when you consider there’s machines that will coil your wire to the desired width and length, and grind the ends flat. The tempering could be done in batches and have tighter control on quality etc. Yes I understand that they cost money and need less of a work force, it all depends on how many springs you want to process for your clients.. good job though…all the best wishes to the worker’s for the future.

When labor is cheaper than equipment, not everyone can afford to purchase a machine to make just springs. I bet this shop can retool and make other parts where a spring machine would only be used for that purpose.

Heat treatment doesn’t make sense. Wire was soft enough to be coiled. But it was not hardened after that. Why temper at all? Must be a very cheap spring that does not compress very far in its use or it will certainly not retain length.

I believe this is what a OSHA compliance officer's nightmare looks like. Also what are they trying to accomplish with that torch? Is it some type of bluing, cause it's definitely not heat treating, that wasn't near hot enough and not long enough soak time. Why do that in open air, 90% of that heat is just escaping into the air. Just make a simple enclosure with those bricks, even a partial enclosure will save alot of gas.
