While it's possible Sindel is one of her brainwashed personas, I couldn't find any intros that refute the claim that she was always evil, and no one talks about wanting to save her, so that doesn't seem to be the case.
NetherRealm needed to fill that trash can of characters with wasted potential a little more.
They ruined Shang. So I expect them to ruin all the characters

The easiest cop out imaginable to not have any legitimate excuse or explanation for these storyline changes. Despite loving the 2011 reboot to death, I had a feeling that was the route they were gonna indulge in for quite sometime.
Nope. They took the dumbest route imaginable and said "everything you thought you knew is a lie", which essentially equates to "fuck canon and the people who care about it, it's our franchise and we can do whatever the hell we want with it".

I grew up with the sindel in the old timeline! She was a truly a queen and a mother! She sought redemption after her suicide and leaving kitana with Khan for millennia! Sindel was truly mishandled!

I thought it'd be unanimously agreed upon that retconning literally ANYTHING is a bad thing. Not only that, but selling a staple character like Sindel, that was never DLC, is just wrong no matter how hard you want to sweep it under the rug.
Even if you're an overly generous fanboy that loves deepthroating corporate, the poorly written story and NOW the Sindel issue should make you reevaluate your loyalty to NRS.

Why would a writer want to completely retcon a beloved character like this?? It's a Lose lose situation!
The same person who got Shokan and Shao Kahn confused and answered the question "So why does Shao Kahn have spikes on his arm?" with "He's half dragon and all awesome!"
It's likely he's trying to find a new use for the character. Sindel has always been a bit problematic storywise after MK3 due to her simply being too powerful to keep in play, she reduces the struggle the heroes face due to her power, skill and wisdom. As a villain she's a dangerous threat, as a hero she's someone who needs to be constantly written out of the story to stop her from solving everything.
It's a shame since she's a great character but I do see why he would want to try this.
@@timemonkey Not quite. She's strong but she's no more powerful than Kitana. I think folks forget that her massacre of the heroes in MK9 was due to the fact Shao Kahn broke down Shang Tsung to empower her. The main "power" she has is being Queen of Edenia, which is more of a political power than anything.

Not only does she posses several abilities that make her formidable but she's the only one in the entire franchise who possessed the magical power and skill to free her realm from outworld by simply undoing Shao Khan's spells, a process that others describe as being very difficult and time consuming, some unsure if they could even manage it. It's why giving her Shang Tsung's soul was so devastating, she was already a very powerful character on her own.
But as I mentioned above they've been trying to downplay her abilities because they cause too many problems from a writing standpoint.
@@timemonkey Well one of the main things is that in MK4 and 5, she didn't show up because she basically refused to leave Edenia. Only during the events of Deception did she leave and brought Jade as her personal bodyguard. Her main tool at that point was her wit since she could understand the runes in Onaga's crypt and, at least in her ending, used the spell intending to return Onaga's spirit to his original body to pull him out of Reptile and into his body, of which she thrust her spear into where his heart was trying to regenerate, resulting in him dying, though that was just in her ending and she did not end up performing said ritual.
So if the leaks are true Sindel goes from being "Wasted potential" to "Completely ruined" niiiiice......

SERIOUSLY, let's make sense of this:
1) Long-held Sindel backstory is that Sindel ruled Edenia peacefully until Shao Khan's invasion (Sindel is good). Sindel sacrifices her life to cast a protective spell / ward protecting Earthrealm from Shao Khan (Sindel is very good). Sindel is resurrected in a corrupted state by Shao Khan (through Quan Chi) on Earthrealm to allow the Outworld invasion on Earthrealm (Sindel is bad). After Shao Khan's defeat, Sindel breaks free from this corruption to be reunited with her daughter Kitana (Sindel is once again good). Sindel fights and dies in the final battle of Armageddon on the side of good. (Sindel has always been good)

2) MK Reboot (Now let us remember Sindel's suicide mentioned in MK9 by Quan Chi, which he explains as Sindel sacrificing her life to protect Earthrealm...AND...Raiden's words to Kitana in Chapter 9 in MK9: "You (Kitana) are much more like Sindel than Shao Khan.")
...Continuing with this Rebooted Timeline with Sindel's leaked in-game dialoguesin MK11...So NOW, Sindel ("presumably") ruled Edenia aggresively and betrayed her husband and realm upon Shao Khan's invasion (Sindel is bad). Sindel still sacrifices her life to cast a protective spell / ward protecting Earthrealm from Shao Khan (Sindel dies being good...confusingly, WTF??)...BUT WAIT!!...Quan Chi has "NOW" seemingly murdered Sindel (so "NOW" her death is murder not suicide...???WTF???). Sindel is ressurected in a corrupted state by Shao Kahn (through Quan Chi) to remove her protective spell and allow the Outworld invasion on Earthrealm (Sindel is bad). Sindel is, then, killed by Nightwolf - therefore not having the opportunity to break free from her corruption (Sindel dies remaining bad). Sindel is then ressurected again as a revenant (Sindel is still bad). So "NOW" enters a really confused (and bad) Sindel in MK11...
Seriously, why is NRS destroying Sindel's character? What an absolute mess...

So, NRS didn't fix it. Wow, such contempt they have for their character. I guess they really don't want to bring her back in future games. Why not also retcon Scorpion to rape and kill his wife, murder his family in order to justify warring against the Lin Kuei clan? Ed Boon would never do such a retcon that to his favourite. But he did to Sindel, which shows what he thinks of her. Ed Boon, you are disgusting.

Wagner wtf would you want Kollector and Geras in the game? Get rid of Jacqui, Sonya as well because one Sonya is fucking dead and should stay dead. Jacqui and Kollector are some of the blandest characters in MK and Geras is one-game opponent. Honestly, Takeda and Jin have more characterisation than most of the new OCs introduced combined.
No reptile, no Ermac, No Smoke, No Cyrax and Sektor, no true to form Sindel and replacing everyone with guest characters instead of genuine good characters. MK11 doesn’t even have a single fucking Shokan. D’vorah can get fucked too.

When the Dlc comes out unless its all been a ploy it will be my truth that im playing a brain washed Sindel and will argue and cry like a teenage girl at anyone who disputes me, the absolute disrespect and character assassination in this breaks my heart. They had a chance to have a more mature, matronly, kick-ass woman whos also a powerful compassionate ruler, warrior and mother. Then they did this?!? how!? why?! its so rare in games like this to have a character who is an older woman especially one with some depth and lore. Daniel Clark she was pure evil in the past two games because she was a revenant and she was mindwiped or whatever by quan chi when she was resurrected. Kitana and Jade couldn’t save her in MK9 and she died with an evil mindset. In MK11 she is most likely going to still be the evil revenant from the past 2 games.

All these retcons are just frustrating at this point. People can say what they want about the 3D era games. Yes, they made it all up as they went along, like they do now, but at least the story did flesh out the characters in a way where it tried to respect its own past and lore.
I love the gameplay of these new games, but the story and constant retconning leaves very, very little to be desired.
I'm really excited for people to come in, complaining about "the canon doesn't matter!", as if randomly changing SIndel's character to some weird bitch like this is a great positive change worth all the resulting issues.

I was a little kid when I first played MK, and I got really into it BECAUSE of how cool the characterization of Sindel was in MK3 to my 3-year-old mind. My dad told me (when I was a little kid) she was an ancient queen of the gods with super power. This whole new version of it just feels like a betrayal.

And she's only "trashy" because she was brainwashed by Kahn. Her original form was a very modest, elogant Queen. That's also the reason the Edenian women were dressed that way; Shao Kahn made them dress like that.

Changes sure, but the characters we're dealing with are the MK9 timeline versions of the characters being brought forward in the same timeline to MK11. So by that standard, she is still a heroic character that had her soul stolen and used for evil, not an evil thot. But the writing team seems to equate the fact that she was the wife of Shao Khan (Trump stand-in), then she must also be totally evil without considering the implications and retcons associated with that portrayal of her.

There is *some* merit to the argument of functions... when you're talking about moving from one franchise to the other. If you're good at Sentinel, you'll probably find Big Band to be a comfortable fit, or if you're comfortable playing Zangeif, you'll probably do alright as Bane... but once you've invested into the character and have a familiarity with the world then the concept of functions becomes less relevant. I still like Zangeif even if I don't like the way he plays in his current incarnation, so if they were to suddenly switch him for Haggar one game with no real explanation I'd be a little bothered by it even if historically they both play identically.
Kevin Griffith I think that’s a good way to look at it. Like yeah, you can find a character that does the same thing, but it still isn’t the same- half the reason I don’t play SFV is cause there’s no Abel, even though I’m sure there’s a character in there that controls the same way.

I'm just saying that the argument of functions over characters can hold water in some situations (moving from one franchise to another or filling in the spot for a character that would break the canon if they appeared there... for examples), but the original functions argument was being used to defend a purely business-minded decision, and that's not okay.

I've been a fan since the beginning with the 3D era being my favourite part of the series because of its focus on the lore and all the creativity shown during it. The rebooted era feels like a shell of what Mortal Kombat used to be and it's obvious there's barely anyone on the team who knows the lore.
MK11 seems completely focused on the competitive community, being PC, and fitting in whilst leaving behind the fans who care about the series for its story and characters. This sucks as a fan who's been around since the beginning because I would argue the lore fans are what truly kept MK going over the years. MK11 doesn't even have character biographies anymore and that says it all really.
I wouldn't be surprised if MK12 scrapped story mode completely and just focused on multiplayer instead.

@@danarreza2631 Not just Sindel.... The plot had so much potential, and it got wasted. Noob Saibot literally was in 2 scenes, and he should've been the one to kill Hanzo. There's a lot I can speak about, but it won't make a difference. NRS needs a lore master (I am free! ).
On the other hand, I never said the gameplay was bad. It looks beautiful, the transitions are fluid. It's a good fighting game, with a very crappy half assed plot.
This is why I like the Injustice gameplay better. They kept moves from the original Injustice, changed some animations, added new ones, and it worked for me. The fact that they even added some old moves back into the abilities section that replaces new moves some might not like is brilliant to me. Ever MK game since 9 I have such a hard time getting used to the characters, I played MK Deception and MK VS DC first. Once I played MK9 and MKX I could never get a grip on characters because they usually never keep moves. That’s another point for Injustice. For the DLC Scorpion, Sub zero, and Raider kept their moves from the previous game and revamp it to work with the system and I loved it. By the time MKX came around I sucked as scorpion because they changed his moves once again, same with Sub Zero in MK11. I seriously hope Joker plays the same in MK11 as he does in Injustice because then I will not get him. No damage to me though because I keep money and I’ll just go back to the superior option INJUSTICE 2

Honestly I think the way NRS treats it’s female characters really shows how fake their SJW propaganda is.
The female characters in MK have the most interesting and compelling plot lines in the series IF DONE CORRECTLY.
The male fighters seem so boring compared to the plot lines of Kitana, Mileena, and Sindel.
Kitana and Mileena are the female Scorpion and Sub Zero. Imagine if they had Geras kill Sub Zero totally ending the feud between him and Scorpion and just ignoring it for the next game and giving ice powers to Scorpion. That’s how dirty they did Mileena.
Even Jade ffs. She’s Kotals booty call now? Wtf. MK constantly shafts their female characters and it shows. The SJW crap thrown in is just to appease those who think the females are too sexualized. Even though the females plots are the best in the game and it’s okay to make them sexual beings as long as they have good characters and actual stories.

Yeah as a long time fan I'm disappointed about the bad remakes of some characters stories. Here they implied Sindel legend was a lie. But she's the first savior of Earthrealm ! She sacrificied herself to protect billions of people from Shao Kahn. And as it is shown in MKD, her family is the most important thing for her, she was ready to do anything to save Kitana from Onaga's control. I love evil queens, I really really do, but Sindel is not one, she never was one, so why did they changed her this way ?

You should head over & join the Discord MK11 server because a lot of fans are pissed at NetherRealm about the way the head writer(s) have revamped Sindel's origin. Thank you SO MUCH for this video. Sindel is one of my favourites, but the bio and intros might honestly make me hate her MK11 inclusion, which should never be the case with a character I like.
NRS needs new writers. Writers that understand EXACTLY how the characters stories are, how they should be written etc. In my opinion I think they should just have a fan write the story that knows EVERYTHING on the MK lore. You would be one of the best story writers, and a few others that I have in mind. But if not a fan, then someone that will take the time to extensively research everthing on the lore
On another note, they need new art directors. MK11's art style is so meh to me. I only like a small handful of costumes. A number of costumes just look generic in my opinion and they don't signify that character, plus some of them are just ew, Cassie's astronaught skin is one example.
Honestly though, I hope this shit timeline is done. At this point I just want to see the entire old timeline in cinematic form. I want to see things like Kitana and Mileena having an actual relationship, them growing up together etc.
I'm dissapointed that they are revamping sindel to be an evil villain as opposed to the tragic hero, she should be more of a motherly influence to the other good characters , an all time wise woman and master diplomatic, nobody wants an evil sindel neatherealm studios, we want a sindel with pride and grace.

I ditched MK the moment Ed Boon made that statement about more than realistic proportions and basically throwing naturally breasted women under the bus. Might as well say that big breasts were unrealistic and he has been catering to certain crowds ever since and using guest characters and making the violence more flashy just to deter people from finding out how full of shit his claims were.
They've betrayed all the characters by messing with their personalities. Although MK has never really been consistent in the whole story we at least know who the characters were and what they stood for that made the memorable. Save for small handful of them they've alter their personality in such a way that they're not even the same anymore.

The part where you talked about Kabal hit me hard. As flawed as it js, I still love MK9 because of how much I felt happy to see my favourite kharacter since (U)MK3 and his storyline be developed beyond what was little more than just a sideshow that's happening in the background. Unlike in MK11, seeing his unburnt version felt real; it felt like I was seeing a person in him, not just some kharacter (not in terms of graphics obv) because It showed us a stage in his life we never really saw well enough. It felt like they actually cared about him... Until they ruined him and everyone in that game by turning them into revenants but that's another matter. MK11's time travel gimmick was the one thing that could have brought back that Kabal but no, they couldn't just do that now, could they?

Now that I think about it it's like the writers are just picking and choosing parts of stuff that they think is cool.
Sindel MK9 ending is her best ending after she defeat Shao Kahn she restored Edenia to it's former glory and Outworld was so impress by Sindel leadership that they willingly offer their allegiance to her where she unite Edenia and Outworld together. THIS THE GREATEST SINDEL representation of her actual character.
And this ending of hers seem to be a foreshadow of Kitana role in MK11.
