I bet this man feels like God every time he does this
Alex Savage in the world of marching brass, he basically is god.
I would argue that Donnie VanDoren is god, and Matt is the second coming. lmao!
Russell Kasem Jim Ott, then Donnie, then this guy. But they're all of different eras
What if he is god
He is god
"We're about to do one of our hits here in a second"
Such a classic
YASSSSS
Mellophones on that G that was awesome
ryan belt lol
@@ethan6090 Mellophones on that G that was awesome
This is SO much more impressive when you realize that single note is 5 people playing together
He had a full head of hair but the years of bells straight to his head forced the follicles out of his scalp.
Tom K worth it.
As his hearing loss increased, he continued to require additional volume from the performers, without any allowance for degradation in sound quality, thereby maintaining a consistent listening experience for himself. (Read in documentary narrator voice)
lol
Daniel Butcher David Attenboroughs voice lol
Tom K and a ear full of hearing loss over the years
So glad I was there to see this. Crown's hornline is one of the best in DCI.
Personally, I was impressed with the Cavs hornline last night as well
Yeah cavies are pretty strong this year as well as Boston
Well the caption head came from Crown...
Blue Coats took brass tonight.
WRONG. there is no argument they are the best.
3:39 is truly amazing. You can LITERALLY HEAR the reverb traveling across the halls.
Best part.
Reverb is amazing? Did you miss the part where THEY STAYED IN PRECISION ACCURATE TUNE THE ENTIRE TIME?
*Sitting here, with my mouth hanging wide open*.......uuummmm....It's only June, you guys....and THIS is the 2018 Crown hornline warming up?!? ....on OPENING night?!? My God.....
ninjamedic41 I literally just drooled on myself. But this is unmistakably Crown quality, like every year
I was like "OH NO THEY'RE CHANGING IT TOO MUCH WHY AREN'T THEY PLAYING A HIT FROM THEIR SHOW?!?!" and then I saw them pick up trombones. And then I was happy again. And then they finished it like they normally do. And I was taken up to heaven
Sounds great, but drum and bugle corps shouldn't play trombones.
Jack Rork Brass lines pre-mid-1990's had an edginess to them that gave drum corps its own, unique sound, that many of us sorely miss. These kids are talented and put out great, well balanced sound, but there is definitely something missing...that rawness of sound that G bugles put out. And don't get me started on the latest trend in "uniforms"!
I'd say the uniforms add to the performers' dedication to the show. If you're willing to put on a purposefully bad looking suit (BD) in front of like 3,000+ people, then you definitely know you're dedicated. My issue with the uniforms comes when people say it's a necessity nowadays. Bluecoats turned it into something and now it's so everywhere that you can't get away from it. I'd have loved to see jagged line or Dreams and Nighthawks in the respective corps' 2014 uniforms, but it's been necessitated now to where if you don't have something cool with the uniforms, or non-traditional style ones, you're less of a favorite. (This isn't my opinion, I'm just stating what I've experienced with the past 2 years following dci.)
Rastafox I mean it's a danger to wear those old heat traps in 90+ degree weather. But I personally love the look of some of the corps these days and don't like the others.
scoobydoo62 A danger?! Those old "heat traps" were worn for MANY years by corps, yet members weren't keeling over in droves. Imagine that!
I love that every time they cut off a big hit, Matt checks his phone like "Shit bruh, just another Tuesday".
I love hearing these "lot" Recordings because its really the only time you really get to hear the horn line without electronic instruments drowning them out.
Chris Roy UNPLUG THE CORPS!
that’s not true but i do like hearing these lots
This is awesome :)
Nothing compared to your quality, but I try! Thank you!
This video is so raw. I cannot wait to see what HornlineFanatic puts out this year. PUMPED UP
Yeah you know I liked it!
Y'all I cried watching this. Its just a brass thing.
Capers Beach I play Sax and I cried 😂
I play bass clarinet and I just nutted hardcore
Capers Beach same
Same
That was the opener for my highschool show in 2015-2016 and to hear crown play that in a tuning circle, let’s just say I could die right now and I’d be totally happy with it.
Yes!!! Another drop the hammer vid to watch 1000s of time!
that camera shake from the force of the sound at 3:18 is pretty epic.
Too bad the recording device had a brick wall compressor on it when we got to 3:18, but I guess my headphones are probably glad.
Is it bad that my first reaction was "damn look at that breathing technique"
No, I aspire to master breathing technique, as I suck at it
At 3:17 just watch the camera shake from sheer power......
First time in my life I've ever heard a horn line actually create the auditory equivalent to an earthquake. It was incredible beautiful and terrifying all at once... And we want more and I'm willing to bet if you were to walk into that building now you can still very faintly hear the echo of that cut off still haunting the Halls . it was glorious from start to finish!
3:26 literally sounds like a choir
I remember when Crown was considered the “little guy” in DCI. Glad to see the corps has come so far.
Crown hornlike hits work better than Viagra. I mean... DAYYUM.
One of my favorite things is the echo at a perfect cutoff - 3:37
I love how they play at a reasonable volume for 90% of this think. He does the little volume crank early on, and then brings it back down. He's teaching them to listen as hard as they play. It's great!
I live for that specific moment at about 3:11, when you know "sh*t about to get real." So beautiful, powerful and transporting. I showed this to my 5 year old daughter recently because my Dad had forwarded me the link, and I was very proud to show her the massive goose-bumps that had formed on my arms. I'm not sure she understood the impact, but this type of precision and clarity never fails to move me. I've missed many a great on field performance just to be in the parking lot waiting for this unique pre-show ritual. Thanks SO MUCH to the many Devils and Santa Clara warm-ups I've been lucky enough to observe, (and record, on cassette!), as well as the Cavs and Phantom and even senior corps like the Cabs and the Brigs. I love drum corps, and hope my children take to it like I did with my Dad.
*sigh* the life of a tuba player. **Carolina crown tuning sequence ***plays only one note the entire last hit
but I bet those tubas are almost passing out during that entire hit.
William Charles Longwell 3
It’s called stagger breathing my friend
bro i thought the breathing gym was hard until my director made us do this 😭
It's all we do man we get nothing
I cannot WAIT till the full closer is in. The part before blow it up, into blow it up, into whatever the closer is will be LEGENDARY. so hyped.
NUT
Daniel Aus. Hahaha
And if you like music this reaction was completely understandable
Watching this gives me goosebumps. I can only imagine how speechless I would be if I saw it live.
Literally brought tears to my eyes. One of the most talented hornlines in DCI. Arguably THE BEST hornline. Love Crown so much and hope to march with them one day
Legend has it the chord is still echoing to this day.
There are very few things that could put a smile on someone’s face and this is one of them.
Matt is in on the spooky monster stuff
I’m auditioning for crown for the 2020 season on baritone, wish me luck!! 👑🤞
this comment didn’t age well
So... Did you make it?
I’m auditioning on bari for 2021. Can’t wait to see you 😁
@@robertgiudice5257 Good luck🤞
Every Show I got to, when Crown is there, I ALWAYS HIT THE LOT for their warmup... Mind Chilling every time... 03:13 These kids are SOOOO GOOD
every time i watch this one it gets better
Brought tears to my eyes...
I know this video is going 5 years but idfc my goosebumps still get goosebumps
When an enormous amount of hard work pays off.
That camera shake at 3:18.... GOOSEBUMPS....
I saw them at Orlando DCI and they were vastly improved and more in tune
Finding, organizing, and directing this incredible brass line would definitely make me feel like "god".
Their very beautiful synergistic brass tones at my fingertips. I get tears listening to this.
In college, Senior Year, I felt like "god" just standing in front of our Marching Band Horn Section. PAC-10. Late 1970s.
The only other thing that ever made me feel that way, was flying my own airplane across the United States of America. It was, psychologically, like having your own Time Machine. It's a different feeling for sure. But it definitely felt godlike.
I was a physician anesthesiologist. Working on trauma patients and routine surgical patients. Essentially, I gave almost "lethal injections" to thousands of patients for many years. With an incredibly strict monitoring plan so they would wake up unharmed very soon soon after surgery. With no movement, consciousness, memory or any long term effects from the general anesthesia.
I never ever felt like "god" at any time. I was just helping and providing a pain free surgical experience for my patients. Without anesthesiology, all modern surgery would not exist.
BTW. The most I ever got from a Pharmaceutical company was free donuts at our once a month M&M conference. Times have changed.
Incredible Sound. Brilliant.
I played Trumpet from 5th grade through College. I would never have qualified for Drum and Bugle Corp as it exists today. But I do love that brass sound.
Me: “Ah - 2018 warmup. I’ve watched this one fifty times already” thinking I’ll have no further emotional response, only to develop chills and, once again unconsciously state “holy shit!”
I got the chills
i can't get enough of this...
3:15 WOOOOOWEEEEEEEE! GET IT CROWN! IM SO READY to go see my first LIVE in person Drum Corps show in July. See y’all in Texas!!
That gave me the chills...
Damn. I would love to be present for one of these. I know the performance is the thing, but these tuning videos...I'm kinda addicted. That sound...when it goes pure. Damn.
Goosebumps. If only DCI got rid of the distractions from this amazing sound like recordings, SFX, synths, singers, mashups,,etc.... Drums, Brass, Color, kills!
Mark Humenik lol marimba too
Have no choice. The music is percussive, can’t carry, project, or penetrate. Its like Chinese food. Until you flood it with soy sauce, duck sauce, hot mustard sauce, hot sauce, its tasteless crap. So, the ly cover it up with everything other than the player, with dancing, yoga, moving around, trying to figure out what life lesson passed us by, sound effects. By the way, Jewel doesn’t need that. Prince didn’t need it. Just sit and play. But, there is no skill, so distract. Disney effect.
Never fails to give me chills
🌟 STUNNING!! So much talent all at once in one place ... How lucky we all are to be able to watch and listen to this as many times as we want! Thank you for posting!! 💫
I swear this never gets old
This makes me smile every time
Gives me chills every time I hear it
they are just having fun this year with a fun show!
at 2:36 it sounds like someone is mowing the grass in the background 😂 and then it's absolutely awesome 😎
This is the best one I’ve ever see
That took my breath away!!! Fantastic control and direction!!!
This gave me the chills!
OMG...absolutely breathtaking.
anytime i watch one of their tuning sequences i get major chills
Words cannot explain how good they are
Love it when I am recommended Carolina Crown warm ups. :)
This was the musical equivalent of a lightning strike what I watched my eyes can comprehend., but what I heard I have no words for, it was literally Transcendence that you could hear
I NEVER get tired of these GREATLY talented musicians and conductor! Sooooo much energy flowing through the air! I can feel it through my tablet!
Just excellence on every level- tone quality, tuning, balance, dynamics- wow
Just listened to a different team from this year, and then found this video. Even this early, I’m not hearing the holes in the sound here that I heard a few minutes ago, folks bumping in and out when they ran out of breath. Such a gorgeous sound already!!
Goosebumps everytime
AMAZING GRACE how sweet the sound 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🎵🎺🎶
Damn!!!Y’all just took it to the next level...Very nice
Bryan Singleton Thank you Matt, very cool!
Never gets old
The quality is great
every time GOOSEBUMPS Greetings
chills man chills
pre-pandemic - brings tears to my eyes guys simply awesome!!!!
This video is so mind blowing that I forgot that they called this a tuning sequence instead of a brass feature. That's Carolina Crown for ya
Love the intermittent "relax and sway." Loosens you up I'm sure for the big hits.
Much more fun warm up than we got to do back int the late 80s early 90s when I marched!
Chills every time. Every damn time
Making America great again!...superb job!
Very... Impressive. I absolutely love his enthusiasm... I watch all of the corps... But Cc is still my fav
A WALL of musical perfection!
i went to that show it was freaking awesome
That was actually very nice to listen to.
Funny how I got here, I collect air horns, with not a musical bone in my body and somehow youtube showed me something with "hornline" in the description...
Being from Australia I had no idea what to expect but man am I impressed!!
SWEET!!! HOLY BALLS BATMAN. a gives me chills on the back spine
BEST SOUND EVER!! GIVES ME CHILLS!!!!!!!
wow!!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!
Trombones add so much to the sound. God i love it so much.
Mike TROMBONES ARE NOT BUGLES ,SO YOUR GROUP IS NOT A DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS. FORMER MEMBER OF THE LONG ISLAND SUNRISES DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS.
love this!
I wish I could go see DCI so bad this year.

Amazing!
My God, I wish I could hear this live
