      As his hearing loss increased, he continued to require additional volume from the performers, without any allowance for degradation in sound quality, thereby maintaining a consistent listening experience for himself. (Read in documentary narrator voice)

    I was like "OH NO THEY'RE CHANGING IT TOO MUCH WHY AREN'T THEY PLAYING A HIT FROM THEIR SHOW?!?!" and then I saw them pick up trombones. And then I was happy again. And then they finished it like they normally do. And I was taken up to heaven

    • @johns3106
      @johns3106 6 років тому +4

      Sounds great, but drum and bugle corps shouldn't play trombones.

    • @johns3106
      @johns3106 6 років тому +2

      Jack Rork Brass lines pre-mid-1990's had an edginess to them that gave drum corps its own, unique sound, that many of us sorely miss. These kids are talented and put out great, well balanced sound, but there is definitely something missing...that rawness of sound that G bugles put out. And don't get me started on the latest trend in "uniforms"!

    • @Uliusjay
      @Uliusjay 6 років тому +1

      I'd say the uniforms add to the performers' dedication to the show. If you're willing to put on a purposefully bad looking suit (BD) in front of like 3,000+ people, then you definitely know you're dedicated. My issue with the uniforms comes when people say it's a necessity nowadays. Bluecoats turned it into something and now it's so everywhere that you can't get away from it. I'd have loved to see jagged line or Dreams and Nighthawks in the respective corps' 2014 uniforms, but it's been necessitated now to where if you don't have something cool with the uniforms, or non-traditional style ones, you're less of a favorite. (This isn't my opinion, I'm just stating what I've experienced with the past 2 years following dci.)

      Rastafox I mean it's a danger to wear those old heat traps in 90+ degree weather. But I personally love the look of some of the corps these days and don't like the others.

    • @johns3106
      @johns3106 6 років тому +3

      scoobydoo62 A danger?! Those old "heat traps" were worn for MANY years by corps, yet members weren't keeling over in droves. Imagine that!

    I live for that specific moment at about 3:11, when you know "sh*t about to get real." So beautiful, powerful and transporting. I showed this to my 5 year old daughter recently because my Dad had forwarded me the link, and I was very proud to show her the massive goose-bumps that had formed on my arms. I'm not sure she understood the impact, but this type of precision and clarity never fails to move me. I've missed many a great on field performance just to be in the parking lot waiting for this unique pre-show ritual. Thanks SO MUCH to the many Devils and Santa Clara warm-ups I've been lucky enough to observe, (and record, on cassette!), as well as the Cavs and Phantom and even senior corps like the Cabs and the Brigs. I love drum corps, and hope my children take to it like I did with my Dad.

      If you've never heard those corps from the 70s and 80s in person, you might not understand. Sure, the corps today have a more polished and colorful sound. But in terms of volume, these new age corps do not even come close. If you didn't see it back then, you've missed it. It's not coming back, sadly.

      Amplification and accustics have to do with shape of line and length of tubing. A g bugle is just slightly shorter so the centeral note as "c" is "g". All amplify the same, but the farther and longer tubing (Bb) according to physics should amplify more....

      Have no choice. The music is percussive, can’t carry, project, or penetrate. Its like Chinese food. Until you flood it with soy sauce, duck sauce, hot mustard sauce, hot sauce, its tasteless crap. So, the ly cover it up with everything other than the player, with dancing, yoga, moving around, trying to figure out what life lesson passed us by, sound effects. By the way, Jewel doesn’t need that. Prince didn’t need it. Just sit and play. But, there is no skill, so distract. Disney effect.

    Finding, organizing, and directing this incredible brass line would definitely make me feel like "god".
    Their very beautiful synergistic brass tones at my fingertips. I get tears listening to this.
    In college, Senior Year, I felt like "god" just standing in front of our Marching Band Horn Section. PAC-10. Late 1970s.
    The only other thing that ever made me feel that way, was flying my own airplane across the United States of America. It was, psychologically, like having your own Time Machine. It's a different feeling for sure. But it definitely felt godlike.
    I was a physician anesthesiologist. Working on trauma patients and routine surgical patients. Essentially, I gave almost "lethal injections" to thousands of patients for many years. With an incredibly strict monitoring plan so they would wake up unharmed very soon soon after surgery. With no movement, consciousness, memory or any long term effects from the general anesthesia.
    I never ever felt like "god" at any time. I was just helping and providing a pain free surgical experience for my patients. Without anesthesiology, all modern surgery would not exist.
    BTW. The most I ever got from a Pharmaceutical company was free donuts at our once a month M&M conference. Times have changed.
    Incredible Sound. Brilliant.
    I played Trumpet from 5th grade through College. I would never have qualified for Drum and Bugle Corp as it exists today. But I do love that brass sound.

    Me: “Ah - 2018 warmup. I’ve watched this one fifty times already” thinking I’ll have no further emotional response, only to develop chills and, once again unconsciously state “holy shit!”

    I love this corner of UA-cam. Stuff like this and the stuff Westminster Chorus is doing is grossly unknown and it's a damn shame.
