Join us on a journey to discover the cultural treasures of Denmark at Roskilde Church, Viking Museum, and Frilandsmuseet. Located just outside of Copenhagen, these three attractions offer an immersive experience of Denmark's rich history, from the Viking Age to the early 20th century.
We start our tour at Roskilde Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the final resting place of Danish kings and queens. This magnificent cathedral, built in the 12th and 13th centuries, showcases a stunning combination of Gothic and Romanesque architecture. Step inside to admire the intricate stone carvings, colorful stained-glass windows, and ornate royal tombs.
Next, we head to the Viking Museum, which houses five Viking ships dating back to the 11th century. These beautifully preserved vessels, excavated from the nearby fjord, give us a glimpse into the maritime prowess and seafaring culture of the Vikings. We'll also explore the museum's interactive exhibits and learn about Viking society, religion, and warfare.
Finally, we end our tour at Frilandsmuseet, an open-air museum that recreates rural life in Denmark from the 16th to the 20th century. Here, we can wander through historic farms, gardens, and workshops, and experience the daily routines and customs of Danish peasants and artisans. From traditional cooking methods to woodworking techniques, Frilandsmuseet offers a fascinating glimpse into Denmark's cultural heritage.
Join us on this virtual tour and immerse yourself in Denmark's fascinating past. Don't forget to like and subscribe for more travel and culture content!
I was married in Roskilde while serving in the US Army, stationed in Germany. My bride was German, and there was more bureaucracy involved in doing in Germany or through the Army. So, we spent a few days in Roskilde and a few in Copenhagen before heading to Paris to complete our honeymoon. So this was a nice blast from the past for me, thank you!
Wow, a fellow Veteran getting married in Roskilde. Such a lovely city, Denmark has my heart. I never made it Germany as a duty station sadly :(. I hope you and your wife and doing well. Thank you for your service.
one of the best tour guide videos i’ve seen on this platform, thank you for your dedication!!! super awesome, will be in denmark this summer, following in your footsteps
Thank you for the kind words. :)! I loved Denmark, thats why I went back to make more videos. I still need to go back and see it during the summer months. I hope you enjoy your trip. Thank you for the support it really means alot.
Hey Davion, thanks for all of your videos! You've making my list of places to visit a lot longer. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for the long support!!! It really means a lot. 😳you’ve been subscribed for 5 years?
@@DavionWest Yep, I started with your fountain pen vids, your clips from the army and about leadership kept me engaged. Love seeing the growth and changes to your channel.
They also have a farmhouse from the coast of southern Jutland, expecting to be flooded at intervals, so it is built on an artificial hill, to get it high up during that.
Another great video from Denmark ... you actually get to see stuff that I, as a Dane, have not yet visited :)
Can't wait to see your next videos ;)
Thank you 🙏 I’m really excited to release the jelling episode and Christianborg Palace one.
Just a little trivia. The person, who officially founded Copenhagen, was actually Bishop in Roskilde at the time in year 1167.
😳😳 I’m assuming that same bishop is probably buried at the kirke in Roskilde 🤔
@@DavionWest
Well actually, he is buried in the monastery church in Sorø where he lived up to his death in March 1201.
Roskilde was my mom's hometown. She and my American father met in KBH train station the early 60s. That dragon scream always scared me when I was little 😂
😳meeting at the train station is definitely out of a love ❤️ story!! I wanna go back to Roskilde and see more of the city and local life :). Haha 😂 it comes out of no where with the scream.
@@DavionWest I hope you go back soon. I haven't been since 1988 and I am so ready to hang out with my cousins. Only 2 of them were old enough to drink in bars last time I was there lol
Hey. Nice video! Fun fact, I recently had a tour inside the roof of the Cathedral. It actually burned down in 1968. So they had to rebuild it. The amount of work and materials used in the construction is just crazy! It's not open to the public, it was because of my school we got to do it. You can see a 360 degree view of the entire city. If you want a picture or a video just let me know 😁
Thank you for the support, a video would be amazing, if you could send it to my email-daviontravel@yahoo.com
@@DavionWest got you bro. sending it soon 💪
