Much under rated 1980s movie. But what I remember best about the movie was some great acting performances from Roy Scheider and Helen Mirren. Also quite an exciting movie unlike the slow moving some would say boring but much more popular and praised kubrick masterpiece. I think that is why this movie was forgotten because people did not want to compare it to 2001 which is a shame because it was a very good movie from the 1980s. Not everyones cup of tea but if you are a scifi fan and fan of 1980s movies this movie is one of the best out there. Its is a shame this movie does not get the praise it deserves. You would only catch it on Turner Classic Movies or rarely shown on television. I saw it again by chance back in the late 1990s on Turner Classic Movies after I saw it in the cinema for the first time in the 1980s. People shouldn't compare it to its famous predessor. They should instead enjoy it as an example of great 1980s movie making. Shame it is a forgotten movie. Its a good film.
