It took 22 years to find this toy

- This video is all about Hasbro's Naknak, a toy line that first released in 2001, and was later discontinued in 2003. Naknaks were collectable toys, as well as a game. If you grew up in the (very) early 2000s, you might remember these. Some of these Naknak figures are extremely rare, and the main point of this video is to shed some light on the rare figures, as well as talk about some of the less common figures.
In this video, I mention that I'd be interested in buying some Naknak figures. To be clear, the figures I am interested in are: Any of the Gorton Fisherman Naks, Hasbro-Nak, Today Show Nak, and Vertical-nak. Or, if you think you have a rare figure I haven't mentioned, I'm also interested. You can contact me via email below ⬇️

We now have a few photos of the climbing wall playset that Verticalnak came in. You can also find these photos in my community posts. Again, thanks to theWWEfan2020 for his massive effort in preserving all of this.
I had like 4 of them but not from McDonalds but I got the fisherman guy from a Long John Silvers and I had 2 from the Great Clips and they were cheap as shit. They fell apart from not doing anything with them. They are garbage. They didn't stand up. They didn't hold up at all. They just fell apart. The quality was insanely garbage. They were considered the toy that even losers wouldn't play with. Every kid I ever knew that touched them had the same exact response which was this item is just plane garbage. A reason that they are extremely rare is because they were trash and like trash they were thrown away.
Oh a huge issue with them and another reason they are rare is because their was a recall on them because turns out they were made from toxic chemicals and the parts that were potentially toxic was the glue that held the cheap paper pictures on, the paper itself had a nasty habit of being made of asbestos, and the plastic itself was recalled because it was mixed with toxic chemicals and made so cheaply that it would stink. They were garbage then and just because stuff is old and rare doesn't mean its worth anything nor is it a bright idea to collect garbage. If you collect these things then you are a hoarder not a collector there is a huge difference.
I remember getting one of these in a happy meal when i was a kid. Thanks for dusting off a memory from 20 years ago!
Fr I had the zombie one from McDonald’s
same!
Same here!
i only remember these from mcdonalds. i never knew they existed outside of mcdonalds
I would like to believe you but I’m having mixed feelings because of the amount of kids who just lie about these things
It really boggles my mind how so much of the 80's and 90's media is seemingly well documented but the 2000's are just a big memory hole.
World wasn't the same after Y2K
@timm2396 can you expand more on this as of why it would lead to less documentation of novelty items as opposed to previous years?
Was scrolling through my feed until I saw the thumbnail for this video and I almost s*** my pants because it was such a sudden rush of nostalgic memories that somehow unlocked and found their way back to me. Wow that's a trip.
As soon as I saw the mummy creepnak, it all immediately flooded back to me. The rotating head was the first thing I remembered
I had the same feeling.
Same
Me: “oh cool, I had these! I wonder if any were rare.”
*getting the most common rare one required mailing a fish stick company*
Me: “guess I don’t own any rare ones.”
Yesn't
Wow, these are things that I had but completely forgot they existed. Thanks for unlocking the memory.
I only ever remember getting a couple of the McDonald's ones. I forgot these guys even existed until this video jogged my memory. Specifically I remember the mummy one.
I didn't know of it's sales or promotions outside of McDonald's, I didn't even know there was a game.
Its funny thats the exact one I remember too
Crazy how you said everything I was thinking
Wow, the orange mummy is exactly the only one I recall in detail
@@rigelc.hoffman2496 yeah, That's how it is for me too lol
These NakNaks would make excellent fidget toys today. I remember keeping a couple of them under my desk at school to pose, stack, cartwheel them, click the arms and legs, pretty much the perfect fidget toy. They were like my little desk pals. . I eventually lost them due to my family moving around a lot 😢 I'd occasionally remember this specific childhood toy, next to the Bionicles. Good times !
Ah man, Bionicles 😅
THEY'RE CALLED NAKNAKS AAAAAA I've been searching for these for YEARS, couldn't ever quite remember what they were called. As a kid I called them knickknacks and clickclacks, so in all my searching I've NEVER been able to find them. And then suddenly this appears in my recommends. Twenty years of curiosity have finally been sated. Thank you.
I’ve been trying to remember these things for fucking years the racheting sound and sensation has been crystal clear in my mind for 20 years without answers. Thank you so much
LOVED Nak Naks as a kid. Super glad I still have all of mine, including two of the Gorton's Naks.
I have all the Gordons and had an unopened set, but traded it for a Dinoco Lightning McQueen when I was a kid. Worst trade ever 😂.
BRO THIS SHIT JUST UNLOCKED A CORE MEMORY
I remember Naknak as a toy plucked from the clearance aisle because it seemed neat. I've always liked stacking figures. I had no idea the line was this deep or promotions so varied.
It really played on the connecting markers part of the brain
I remember having the Verticalnak as a kid. And if I remember correctly, I got it at the Dollar Tree, maybe after they discontinued them. I also got that boat playset there. Shame, I feel like these would’ve had more potential nowadays, especially with how IPs are all over collectibles.
Thanks for sharing! Nice to hear from another person who had Verticalnak
I literally went to Ebay and bought 2 small lots of these while watching this video. Made sure I got some dice in one of them so I could actually play the game too, since that's actually the point of me getting them. Figured it could be a fun way to have a little stacking game in my collection, and I remember wanting these SOOOOO badly as a kid, so it's nice to make that finally happen.
8:31 A Naknak was one of the toys used in some of Jacob Lenard's oldest stop-motion animations
My grandma had a nak nak (might've been a clone), it was an alien guy. Never never knew they were called these or even had a purpose other than being a kids toy.
So nice to see my childhood being preserved by troopers like you. Thanks for sharing this to the public and taking me back to a much younger version of myself. 🔥
For some reason, I watched a 10 minute video about an obscure toy I have never heard of, but enjoyed every minute of it. You just got a sub from me.
I feel, like in the very back of my mind, that I had one of these guys before.
You may very well have!
This is awesome dude, thanks for making this. I used to play the game with my brother as a kid, and I think it was a result of the McDonalds promotion. I distinctly remember having the soldier, that robot with the open palms, the abstract art looking one, and the galaxy looking one.
Thanks! I was trying to remember this in the back of my mind. I remember as a kid I vaguely had a toy like this and couldn't remember them until seeing your video. Thank you!
I always love learning about weird obscure toys like this. I do remember seeing these guys at some point in the early 2000’s but I never had any. But it’s really fun to see someone be so excited by them. Toys are cool
Thanks for this blast from the past. Good luck with your collecting!
My brother and I had these. Some couple years ago I randomly remembered them, but could find nothing online.. Thanks for shining a spotlight!
I forgot all about these lol I used to have a few of the McDonald's NakNaks. I remember having the mummy figure. Thank you for this video. It's always nice to remember a fun blast from the past.
Wow, this was a throwback. Didn't know they made so many!
I never imagined id find something i never even remembered i had at one point until now
Every once in a while I come across a video that is just interesting, this is why I watch. Thanks for the video. I haven't thought about these things since I was very young.
To be honest I had no clue there was a game that went with NakNak. This video definitely gave me the itch to collect some again! NakNak and Mighty Beanz have similar vibes to me in that they were their own unique thing, I feel like if they came out today they'd be star wars or marvel branded.
I've never heard of naknaks, but your love for them is what makes this video good. I wish I had a rare naknak to give you.
dude, thank you SO MUCH for actually naming this toy. i've spent ages on and off trying to track these down because i never actually knew what they were called, just that they were basically a fidget toy for me as a kid. never knew there was a game attached to them ! cool to learn something about this weird thing thats occupied part of my brain for years
So glad someone decided to cover this!
No idea how this popped up in my feed but it was a great watch, I do remember as a child finding Naknaks kinda sitting at the bottom of toy bins and at plenty of garage sales. I thought they were odd and didn’t understand the point, glad to have finally learned about it
I have been trying to remember what these were called for years! THANK YOU!!
Naknaks were one of my favorite toys as a kid, something about their design just clicked (ha) with me. I have quite a collection from back then, my favorites were the Dominaks, Maginaks and Robonaks. I had no idea so many of these extra promotional designs and cancelled figures existed, really cool to see these discussed again after so long.
I knew they were supposed to be stacked but I always would just play with them like they were normal action figures lmao.
never thought I would see these toys again, really cool and informative video
Honestly never seen this toy line before, but cool vid! Also, nice Gamecube collection :)
Wow, this is a memory I never though I’d think of again. In my grandmothers house, there was this big bag of toys, all of these were toys that my brother or cousin didn’t want and were then kept to my grandmothers so that I could play them. Years later did I realize that most of those toys were actually McDonald’s toys and one of them was the NakNak mummy. I think by the time I played them, these things weren’t even around anymore, it would have been 2007 at the earliest.
found your channel and immediately fell in love, thank you for reminding me of the weird niche stuff from my childhood
thank you for making a video on these i vidly remeber playing this these as a child and as i got older i struggled to remeber what they were called and thought i had made them up entirely!
This was my favorite as a kid man thank you for bringing memories back
I was 4 years old when I first got my NakNak . Good times ❤.
Loved Nak-Naks when I was a kid, I would collect a ton of them from Dollar Tree. I also had a ton of Mighty Beanz.
Jesus, I had four of these as a kid! Haven't thought about them for years!
To be honest, I just liked your video because I want to get your channel noticed again. And 2 I like the pase of your editing and tone of your voice. Good luck with your channel!
I appreciate it :)
I think about Naknaks maybe twice a year at random. I had a medium sized collection with the rocker as a young kid which my mom got at a thrift store or yard sale. The weird and sorta abstract characters- the kinda transhumans and astral beings- must've made some kind of artistic impression on me. Thanks for the vid!
This is exactly how I feel. Certain characters just kind of stuck in my mind forever
This brought back a lot of memories. My grandparents had a tub of these for when me or my cousins visited. I am too young to remember them when they were still being made but I have a lot of memories of playing with these when I was young. Must’ve been around 2006-2010 when I played with these. I didn’t even know what they were called. No wonder I never saw them anywhere else! Unfortunately my grandparents house flooded around 2016-2017 and those toys haven’t been seen since.
I was obsessed with Naknaks as a kid. Thank you for this video
I collected a ton of these as a kid. I never could remember the name of these toys! This video is a blast of nostalgia
Thank you for the memories I didn’t know I had of this
Wow, I haven't thought of these in years. Thanks, it was nice nostalgia.
Man I used to love these! I had a lunch box full of the things that I brought everywhere, but alas im pretty sure they've been lost to time. Awesome vid!
Banger content. I actually loved Nak Nak
These seem highly easy to replicate/make knockoffs of - so I'd say be careful too! 3D printer and some stickers could go a long way to fooling people.
There are so many collectible things like toys that are sold for so much more than these silly NakNaks and that are so much easier to forge than these. People pay tens of thousands of dollars for something that is just printed cardboard (eg trading cards). It would be much easier to distinguish something 3D printed from moulded plastic.
@@LekstiI its actually amazing how hard it is to make believable forged pokemon cards. They always get some detail wrong! But yeah, on the internet its a suss thing and easier to fool ppl.
A friend of mine recently bought a sheoldred, the apocalypse MtG card for £120 and it's kind of a yes and no. For regular play whilst sleeved it looked the part the seller even sent 100 of the same sleeves it was in to finish his deck. Perfect, right? Wrong, it looked real but the second it left the sleeve it felt wrong. It had a different card stock and the likes and he immediately showed it around to get opinions on how real it was. In a sleeve you'd be hard pressed to spot the fake and the scam of "hey it's ready for you to build around" hadn't crossed anyone's mind up until then and honestly if he hadn't just needed another copy for his deck he probably wouldn't have taken it out of the sleeve it was in. So I guess the TL;DR is convincing fakes can be made but there's always that 1 thing that just feels off to someone who knows the products well.
P.s. getting his money back is a bitch. It's been like a month and a half and unless it was refunded yesterday he still hasn't got it.
Space trip steps goes stupid hard, favorite video game ost song ever
I had these and didn't remember until you just unlocked that memory
Fantastic video! If I’d have to assume, usually the Today show and other morning shows would feature new toys for like Christmas. Maybe NakNak was featured on a segment and that was made to be given to the audience or studio staff? Anyways still fantastic video and I wish you luck in finding the missing pieces of your collection! Subscribed!
Thanks! Your theory is exactly what I was thinking. I looked, and couldn't find any segments about Naknak. Also reached out to some some people regarding toy shows that may have been affiliated with Today, and I just couldn't really find any leads. I hope someone uncovers this one day, but we'll see
Thanks for unlocking a core memory. I had a couple of these.
My guy you’ve unlocked a deep memory in me I used to collect these as a kid time flies
I had no idea these where rare! I have 3 huge boxes filled with these sealed figures!!! Back in my days my father would buy so many toys in bulk and give them to my sibling and I, and he always said to keep stuff sealed in a box for your future kids or something. I still have so many toys that are sealed especially tons of vintage toys!
You hurt my Brain with this one. Short story I had a box of a bunch of these growing up. Had all these and my hot wheels in the Attic. We had to sell our home in 2012 and move into an apartment and all my old toys are gone forever. Wonder if I had any rare ones because I remember distinctly having a blue one with stickers that were not on this video.
YOU JUST UNLOCKED A MEMORY THAT I COMPLETELY FORGOT I HAD!!!!! I remember having one of these toys but I couldn't quite remember which one until the orange mummy from McDonald's popped up!!! Good old days!
Never had any of these but this has just unlocked memories I didn’t know exist. Definitely played with these with a couple of friends when I was a lot smaller.
Scrolling UA-cam and seeing the thumbnail was like getting hit by a brick. Bunch of nostalgia, all at once
I still have my whole collection of these!! I'll have to dig them out sometime.
i absolutely love weird obscure collectible toys, this is my first time hearing of these but they are quite cool
Dude I had a lot of these! That's crazy you made me remember. I specifically remember having wacky nak. I had a black one with white patterns on it. They're all at my dads house.
I've been looking for these and forgot the name. Thank you for bringing up my childhood.
This was probably one of the first happy meal toys I ever had. So early that I don't even remember getting the meal just having them in the toy box.
Man, this unlocked some memories. I remember me and my siblings each had a NakNak, but none of us even knew there was a game involved. I think the one I had was Voltnak, and my brothers had Nukenak and Thinkernak.
I also have been looking for these things. I am so happy you did this work. For me. Lol
no way, I totally forgot about these, that's incredible
unlocked a memory! these were awesome
i love it when a person get obsessed with items like these nice time capsule video lol
Awesome BGM choice. Pure nostalgia.
Loved these, always like the zombie monster ones. I definitely neglected a cool collectable
I must have only gotten great clips and happy meals naknaks, those were the only ones I remember having. How cool, I completely forgot about these guys
I never knew about the great clips ones before I started researching for this video. Always went to supercuts
I've never heard of these toys, but your passion, enthusiasm and knowledge of this niche bit of pop culture was a joy to watch! I'm sure the creators would be happy to know their toys are so well loved and remembered!
Edit: Calling Sir Michael Caine "another actor" is a brutal accidental burn lol
Oh god this video unlocked memories of these things that have been dormant for years.
I remember having these as a kid! I only have a few deep memories playing with them and I never even knew there was a game, I just remember the figures
OMG Naknak... I've had two of these for as long as I can remember, no idea how I got them. I still have them in perfect condition (do these things even deteriorate??) and now I finally know their names!! They are Zo'nak and Kidnak. This is incredible. I feel like I'm gonna fall into the Naknak rabbit hole now. I love the clicks they make.
I 100% owned nak nak 72 that you showed at the end. I sold it and a few others to a local toy shop. I'm gonna see if I can find it next i'm there!
The thumbnail of this video activated neurons that have been dormant for decades. I know I had some Nak Naks at some point in my childhood, they were fun little figures! I liked the way the limbs clicked into place
I remember those too! I struggled to find them too, not just because they're so rare, but also because I didn't know how to spell it for such a long time.
omg I have tons of these but I am unsure where, you just unlocked a memory
aww hell yeah I still have my Nak Naks. I even had the battle set. God what a blast. I think I even have a couple rare ones.
Bro just unlocked one of my core memories i remember having a few of the more common ones of these as a kid but i just lost them at some point but me and my little bro used to play with them
now this is a real blast from the past, super obscure but i was there for it
I had a booster pack with Kid Nak, an Alienak, and a Robonak with a few others. I loved this toyline and remember the commercial showing them off and mentioning the Stinja by name. Glad I wasnt the only person obsessed with these!
Omg I had the little yellow pyramid from McDonald's set when I was little! I don't remember having any figures with it tho.
I'd searched on and off to find out what the hecc it was, but now I know!
Thank you!!!
wow this is a very cool and well made video
Woah! You just unlocked a memory I didn't know I had stored in my brain
Core memory unlocked... holy hell, I remember having like 3 or 4 of these little guys when I was 5.
I HAD THESE, I remeber pealling off the stickers then I would use sharpy to draw on them thanks for reminding they existited props to you!
I had a good few of these around the house and just never thought much about them, im glad to know theres actual circles looking for specific ones 😂
i had some of these but had no idea that you actually _played_ with them. i just had some from either my parents buying them for me or from happy meals, and all i did was have them.
HOLY CRAP THANK YOU. THIS WAS THE TOY. THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. THANK YOU
Yup I still have mine. I have a nearly complete set of everything leading up to the Basenaks and Dominaks. Without checking, I have either two or three of each of those. The booster packs showed up in Dollar Tree back in mid 2004 which is how my ten year old self managed to get so many. Y’know I’ll bet you could probably 3D print these. I dunno exactly how fiddly the ratchet joints are so that might be a potential failure point in such an experiment, but it might be interesting to try nonetheless. Also thanks for the Wiki. It has always been really difficult to consistently find quality info about these things.
I have a very specific memory of these. When they first came out I was in 1st or 2nd grade. My uncle, younger brother and I went to McDonald's and got some. Then we went home and my uncle and brother took a nap. For some reason I was in the room too. These toys made a lot of noise when you pose them and I sat in a corner unable to play with them because everytime I did, my uncle would wake up and tell me not to mess with it. Idk, weird memory, but this video made me remember it.
Seriously one of my top 5 toys as a kid, my brother’s and I had dozens of these things. Got me wanting to run out and search boxes from my old room to see if any remain!
