I know of a UA-camr, who’s been going for 10 years or so, and his channel isn’t growing. He releases maybe a video a month, and streams twice a week on twitch with a UA-cam sub count of around 40k. They are doing this full time, so I couldn’t understand how. So, I went over to their patreon page and found they had over £2000 in monthly patreon tippers! Just goes to show you don’t need millions of subs to live a comfortable life off of UA-cam, I just think you need people to invest in you and like your character and content. Great video as always buddy!
UA-cam will place adverts in all videos regardless of monetisation. This really handicaps small channels under that monetisation threshold. It's a hard platform to crack so just enjoy being creative.
Money is my last consideration on UA-cam. I enjoy making my videos out metal detecting in the field and showing historical finds. I have a laugh, make good friends and make it fun to view. We are all in this for our own reasons and I wish everyone all the best in their endeavours.

Have you done video of security at different venues today? Maybe assess and analyze security at wild places, strange locations, unique events? Interview door guys or whoever’s interesting.
I have a video idea and it's somewhat related to this, so I'll put it here, I hope that's ok. I don't know if this is possible or practical TGG, but I think an interview/chat with someone you used to do security with would be interesting. You could get their insight into some of the topics you have covered like de-escalating situations and dealing with adrenaline. Some more good stories would be bound to come up too. No worries though if it's not what you want to do.

Good job... just a suggestion,. Your mic is good and detailed... but in a way too good. Your room has too much echo. Anything to break up the sound off those big bare walls ie rugs or quite inexpensive acoustic tiles. Really enjoyed your site especially your sincerity and lack of egomaniac... good on you mate... keep up the good work.😊
We're the same age and I worked in bars and nightclubs in the 90s and early 2000s (midlands east coast seaside town), but behind the bar. Good times... mostly, and your stories remind me of the weird goings on in those places and the nightly bants with the door staff. Top guys by and large and they took good care of the rest of us when things went south. Think it's very different these days. Enjoying the content and recommended it to friends and family. You’ve kind of got your own style, so have you thought about doing any merch? Plenty of places out there can handle it for you for a small fee. On a nothing upfront but take a piece of everything sold kind of deal. But I believe that a lot of the smaller channel guys can make quite lucrative money at this and it doesn’t cost anything upfront to do it. You are a living breathing advert for baseball caps, so they would still like hotcakes with your brand on it, As a suggestion.
@@thatgearguy they will as you get more subs. For sure. You wear your brand, and so will others. And I’d have one. There’s a trick to on demand merchandise though, and the secret is to choose your supplier well. Because you want quality even if they have to pay a little bit more. Returns don’t do anybody any favour especially yourself because of quality issues.

I think the future of YT is going to be cut and splice videos created by YT themselves using AI. For example, if I search for "EV cars", YT will find 10 separate videos on that subject, cut the best sections out of those 10 videos, and splice them together into a new video. The option to watch the full video will be linked in the AI generated video. This model will appeal to the short attention span of the TikTok brains of the future.
I don't bother subscribing to channels any more. I find it makes little difference to the videos recommended to me. What counts is how long I watch the video and if I give it a thumbs up.
That may be true if you never look at your subscription page. I don't watch every video, but I always see when they're posted. I never understood the "click the notification bell" either. No need if you look at your subscriptions.
@@AdamMcCool-01 You can buy things for the business and then that offsets the ammount of tax you pay. Generally if someone is driving a 100k motor it is owned by them as a business expense. You cannot do that if your PAYE. If your self employed and pocket all the cash your bank will eventually tip off the tax office. Then you end up in major grief with a criminal charge and a bigger bill. All online earnings go through the bank. There are no brown envelopes full of cash.
Another interesting video. Not sure about your decision to not recommend fitness clothing. There's nothing wrong with wanting to stay fit and healthy as you get older, and surely most people would respect that. I am older than you, and I wear lycra in the gym and when I go jogging. And I have, like probably everyone else, my favourite apparel.
I go to the gym 5 days a week. I wear sweatpants and a T-shirt. Lycra does not help my progress in any way and would make me look like a bit of a tool. Some guys can carry off the lycra look. I am not one of them!
With all due respect, rebarding the start of your vid, there are many ways to skin the youtube cat, and you make it sound a bit daunting. Ive followed many small sub 1k sub channels who have gone to around your current size or even bigger. Some never appear or film at all, and its all editing, no camera at all, some do everything on there phone including edit ( one comedy skit channel comes to mind who became huge), some just use laptop camera. Not that your advice is bad, its perfect for your style of production. But for people who want to start out, you really dont need any equipment, even just a phone is fine for film and edit.. The main thing is just to start creating and uploading. You dont need to wait. Learn as you go. I will say, audio is important, but decent audio recorders cost very little these days. And even bluetooth mics work great with modern phones and cameras and laptops as well, no synching required. Ps they say lights camera action for a reason. A cheap camera can outperform a great one in better lighting, and better lighting can be just an extra household lamp or two on 'set'.
@@vlnow kind of true but the market place is incredibly competitive. Having quality video matters. 5 years ago, maybe a lot less so but now, everyone is at it. I am not looking to discourage nor am I looking to give unrealistic advice.
@@thatgearguy nah, its good advice. I was just thinking for new guys, the number 1 thing is just to start uploading. Rather than wait until the perfect time or equipment. Its a bit like fitness. Waiting until you can afford a decent bike before starting cardio or cycling when you can cycle on a 30 quid secomn hand bike, or even just go for a walk. Like THE most important thing is just to start. The ball will start rolling from there.
UA-cam should help out CCs and prompt users to subscribe after they've watched more than 3 videos. I've seen about 20 of your videos before realizing I never subscribed

It's almost impossible to make any money out of youtube itself, but money can still be made.
