What a loss Yog had been to the world of music. Imho best uk male vocalist and feel so happy to have seen him live a couple of times. Sing with the angels mate 🇬🇷 🇬🇧
George was pure perfection....whit the most beautiful velvet soul voice... always that gentle smile when he game on stage..almost shy....suts a humble ,kind and generous man❤️...the world is so much lonelier without him....miss you my beautiful angel 🙏🕯️❤️
Phenomenal. Why on earth have these live performances never seen an official release. George’s catalogue is in need of some serious attention particularly now he’s no longer with us
I've often wondered the same. There are so many performances, including this one, that show him as a person AND performer. But GM was (and is by direction of his posthumous team) in full control of his content. It's only right to respect (although I may not understand) his wishes to release his art as he saw fit. RIP GM. We love you and miss you. xx
George's voice has become part of my own soul...when things seem disjointed in me, I listen to his music and it's like pieces of myself come back together. It seems so dramatic to say that but it's been part of me for so long. When I hear something like this that I've never heard before it is like a gift.
It's not dramatic, -GM has had my heart since 13, and most recently his music has helped me through a tough break-up now in my early 40's. GM wrote, produced, performed most of his music. He won the 1989 AMA Soul Artist and Soul album awards. He won back to back Grammy's in 1988-89. It was his choice to step away from the American market because he had a life to live. This performance took place two years after the love of his life died of AIDS. Video quality aside, it stands in my top five of his live performances: #1 - Somebody to Love - Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert #2 - One More Try, Gospel Version - 1993 Concert of Hope #3 - Everything She Wants - 1987 London AIDS Benefit Concert #4 - Hard Day/Back To Life - 1991 Cover to Cover Tour NYC Show #5 - This performance.
I was there to see this at this gig. Hearing GM sing this was bloody awesome. I said to my girlfriend at the time "kill me now, I'll die happy!"! RIP Buddy
Was this shown on TV in any country? I knew someone who saw it here in the US and we were shocked because we hadn’t heard anything about it before the concert and I don’t know how they ended up seeing it.
This is my all-time favourite Elton song and George along with the Beatles my all-time favourite artists, l never knew George sang this song untill today, l would love to know what goes through artists minds when they hear George sing one of their songs because he always did it better.
"Saved in time, thank God my music's still alive" - what a beautiful song! Never heard it before. I really, really hope it exists in better quality and will appear some day. (I sometimes wish George had sung all the beautiful songs to make them even better)
Elton is my favorite artist. I love his voice, his wonderful piano playing, I love him. George Michael, such a talented artist in his own right, combined with Elton is perfection! I mever heard this bersion until tonight.
I own one of only three (3) existing Gold 45 Awards for this incredible song and I was personally given it by Elton himself; it is one of the greatest songs ever written and there is not one way to deny that.
George & Elton Both are perfect in their own way, both are good people with hearts of gold, their charisma. they both dedicated their lives to music; we enjoy their musical heritage. without these great artists the world would be darker and poorer. thanks to god they were there and left us the great songs. R.I.P George Michael, God bless you Sir Elton John
What another great performance by the two of them. I especially love the end part where you see them singing together in one shot and where George hits those notes we all love him so much for.
This is one of my top ten all time favourites and the fact that George is singing this with another of my favourite singers is absolutely awesome, this song saved my life a few years back - just wish I could have saved George's with this ❤️😢😢💔
i think it's always evident when they're together that George could really be comfortable around Elton. I think he could really be himself. They admired each other greatly. Elton has spoken about how he heard Wake Me Up and knew George was a songwriter of magnitude. I was crazy about Elton when he first burst on the scene in the 70's but to hear George sing his songs.... He just booms out those lyrics and as with everything he sings, he does it with GREAT emotion. I like toward the end when he's grinning at Elton and has to turn away before cracking up. Was it an inside joke? the meaning behind the lyrics they just sang? were they stoned? who knows. it doesn't matter. it shows the ease they had with each other. i don't think they had anything romantic going on so please don't anyone suggest that.... i just think they understood each other and each had great respect for each other and their craft. And to know this was an Aids benefit and that Anselmo had died just the year before.... As someone else said, how I wish that someone had saved George.....from himself, his demons, those around him who didn't look out for him the way they should have. I'm sure a lot of the blame falls on George but none of them should've ever turned their back on him no matter how hard he pushed them away. At least there's comfort in knowing he's with Anselmo and his Mum now and is at peace....even if it DOES suck for all of us!
Nobody turned their backs on him he died suddenly of a disease anyone could have got Shirlie saw him right before he died she said he was happy and smiling they had plans for the next day which was Christmas Day but he never woke up that morning so don't you dare judge his loved ones they loved him he died of a disease he was not some tragic drug addict put down the tabloids sometime
Just discovered this. What a treat for me! I had heard George say he missed the comradery he had in Wham. I think singing with Elton brought that back to him. I don't think he turned people away. But I do think he felt Anselmo's and his mom's death very deeply. He said he felt very lonely during the Faith tour. And finding someone had been hard - just listen to A Different Corner and Kissing a Fool. While being George Michael had given him professional success. It was also a detriment to finding someone. So it was a double edge sword. I think his early death could be related to his bout with pneumonia. Reading on the sickness I have found it affects other organs, especially the heart. I also think the George did have of a bit of a weak constitution. Think back to his Wham days and him with a cold, the AGT spot where he was with a cold or his performance with Paul McCartney again with a cold. He was also a smoker for many years and that in itself would not have been good for his lungs or heart. Just thankful to have lived within his lifetime and have the internet - where we could see such a performance. A great artist, singer, musician, lyricist and human being. You and your music will never be forgotten. Thank you for posting the video.
GEORGE RAISED THE BAR AND NO ONE THAT I KNOW COMES CLOSE,SINGER,SONG WRITER,PRODUCER,PLAYS HIS OWN INSTRUMENTS,IMAGE,BEST LIVE PERFORMER,ONE OF THE MOST INTELLIGENT,CALCUELATED AND THAT VOICE WHAT A FUCKEN RESUME
That's the best ever duet..the quality of performance shines through a pretty ropey recording..but I'm glad it exists. Shame it ends somewhat early. Total class.
I was at this concert and although the audio and audience chatter take away from this recording...George Michael sang his part absolutely flawlessly. Elton of course is always good VFM.
mrjintheuk Do you have any idea if this was aired on television and have you ever seen any of it on UA-cam? I know someone I knew back then saw it either on TV or on a DVD and I don’t remember where it was. When we found out about this concert we were shocked because none of the rest of us had heard about it at all at the time. So I don’t know how to find it or even what it’s name is in order to search it
This is a concert from December 1St 1994 in the Royal Albert Hall. There is a full video on the audio of this concert. This song is at the end of that video.ua-cam.com/video/ubjkYwZe7kM/v-deo.html
Elton and George, best songwriter of their time and forever! Great song, wonderful live version. Thanks for sharing. Hope another better version will be published one day!?
I hear ya dude. As I said previously George has the edge as his voice, for me, has that sound that I prefer - nothing to do with mixers, compressers, mixing just his intonations and passion etc.
a beautifully written song and played to an exquisite score.george and elton compliment each other well. elton cant hit those high notes anymore as george can, but elton can still sing and play great.
Elton never wrote his own songs, he wrote the music to the songs but never the words, where as George wrote both the words and the music for most all of his songs .
@@lorettarowell8486 george couldn't compose as well as elton. its harder to write music to someone else's lyrics which makes it even more impressive. plus he could sing like that 9 years after his vocal surgery and with a touring schedule enough to cripple his vocal cords.
Thank you for posting this video I have never heard it before just love George singing his voice is like velvet Elton's voice is ok not a good as George's something about Elton that I don't like don't no why
Bernie Taupin is not Elton's songwriter, he is his lyricist: Bernie writes the lyrics and Elton then writes the music himself... it has always been like that, except for a few times where Elton has cooperated with other lyricists (such as Tim Rice for The Lion King and Aida)
I think Elton is great, but George is much, much greater.Elton just experienced more longevity.George sings this better than Elton did.But I respect your opinion,we all got our own tastes.Peace.
@jdlh1989 Deffo the man!! God knows what these people are on about re MIchael Jackson lol He was great but a totally different type of artist to George or Elton - they are of a different class. Loved Jacko in his day (when I was 13-14 No comments re age lol). George Michael has the most amazing voice end of!! Check him singing live at his most recent concerts doing Love is a losing game - Phenomenol talent.
George and Elton were born to sing together. I wish George would sort his shit out. It's almost like when Freddie died - in his current state, the world is a sadder place with his voice.
George & Elton were born to sing together - they really should do a whole album - possibly a mix of their own classic and some of the American song book - it would blow the charts apart. Who am I kidding, Elton's a recluse and George has screwed his voice with pot - I can dream though.
Steve O'Brien Yeah it’s been mind-boggling to me that I’ve been watching videos and reading comments since George died like 3 1/2 years ago and you’re the first person who’s mentioned that he must have ruineded his voice by smoking pot even though people used to say in the 90s that his voice had suddenly changed in a bad way when it suddenly dramatically changed between the 1993 Concert for Hope and the 1994 MTV concert where he sang Jesus to a child and he suddenly had a nasily higher voice and didn’t sound like himself anymore. We thought it was probably because he had gotten plastic surgery to take the fat out of his cheeks and possibly some other plastic surgery procedures and that that had changed the sound of his voice somehow because singers aren’t supposed to get plastic surgery for that reason but once I found out after he died that he had started smoking pot after Anselmo died in 1993 I thought it was probably from smoking pot. Especially since he said in the 2000s that he was smoking like 28 joints a day which is crazy. I don’t know how his throat wasn’t much more seriously damaged than it was. And I would think it also made him more susceptible to getting pneumonia since pot is worse on your lungs than cigarettes are
elton smoked pot in the 80s which ruined his voice as well since he smoked a blunt before every show he did especially in 85/86 and he performed sick a lot as well(a habit he still has today) this changed elton's voice as well. pot is really bad for the cords.
Do you mean the live 1977 one? (2 Octaves?! ) Soz bro I prefer the GM version. George has that certain resonance in his voice that Elton has never possessed. I love the craftsman ship in Tonight both lyrics and expecially musically - 1st class!

@MsGeorgiosPanayiotou We do not pay attention. And you must not either. You're are a great artist. And that's all. From Spain
I still can't believe he did this...well Yog at least you didn't have to do it from the drum set!!!
