    Put back as much as possible- store in multiple locations and do not barter the ammo- unless to very close friend. Consider burying a couple defensive rifles

    I have been restocking my supply lately. Today was a big shipment, 5000 rds of CCI subsonic 22LR, 1000 rds of 7.62, and 1000 rds of subsonic 9mm. I do have a range of suppressors, they are worth the waiting time. 200 more 50BMG coming this week. Look into that more, lots of fun. If needed, it is more useful for stopping vehicles than long range, in my opinion.

      Oh I'd love to have a 50! I'm afraid I'd go broke trying to feed it though. Good point, I do have a mosin nagant with some penetrating rounds for engine blocks and such.

      @@TheHandsOnChannel The rounds are expensive, but really 20-25 rds for a range day. The rifles cost a lot, to get started. I have the Bushmaster BA50, and just got the Cyclops suppressor.

    there's 10''s of millions of autorifles in the US today, when you count the 22lr variants During the depression, people were lucky to have a single shot 22lr rifle and half a box of ammo for it. Or a single shot shotgun and 10 shells for it. Today, millions of people have stockpiled 1000 rds or more of 22lr.. I wrote a book on how to internally thread a 22's barrel and make an effective can for it. That book has sold 1/2 million copies, Nobody pays $15 for such a book and then doesnt try to do what it says. You can bet that on average, more than one person per book has read it, too. A subsonic 22 rd, thru such a silencer, is BB gun quiet You can just hold shut the bolt and eliminate the ejection port noise

    With all do respect, you definitely don't want a Sub 2000 or any Kel-Tec for a defensive weapon. They jam more than any other gun I've ever owned. If you are going to resort to a Kel-Tec, you need to carry another backup weapon on you.

    It will be 22lr, 9mm, and 20 gauge for me. As for the 20 gauges we must remember that a 20 gauge shotgun itself is less bulky and lighter than 12's, therefore when firing a full power round the felt recoil is nearly the same. At least that's what I've felt when firing a 3 inch magnum. now as for birdshot not being effective for home defense, I call bullshit. Remember the normally accepted self defense range is 21 feet or less. next remember that even with an open bore weapon the pattern remains relatively tight out to several yards. With my maverick 88 20 gauge youth model. loaded with low brass size 9 bird shot at a distance of 7 yards and the medium being inch thick hard plywood, I was able to blow large jagged holes through the 1st board and mar up the 2nd. Imagine the damage if shot through a tighter choke. Anyone would be hard pressed to convince me it wouldn't do the same to a human torso.

    Grab yourself a short barrel AR9 that takes Glock mags. Cheap to build yourself and with a brace no worries on barrel length. I have 2 sub2000. One in 9 and the other in 40sw. You are better off with an Ar9 if you want a subgun. Just for familiarity of an AR and how it handles heat. I’d rather have an ar9 absorbing heat during an intense firefight than a polymer sub2000. From a manufacturing standpoint the Ar9 speaks to a multitude of skilled professionals refining the system over decades. The sub2000 speaks of one guy came up with an interesting gun when there wasn’t many ar9s.

      That's good advise, thanks. I'm sure you could tell I really didn't want to fully commit to the sub 2k. A friend of mine has one and it feels like a cheap toy. I'm told the newer ones are better but I'd rather stick to the ar platform.

    if shtf, guys, you'lll have to carry the BOB everywhere. Armor, night vision, food, water, shelter, spare clothing, cause it will be SO easy for enemies, fire, flood, etc, to cut you off from your "base" (if you even have one, that is) So you can't carry more than one longarm and you cant shoot what you aint got with you. You cant tell when you might need to fight and a shotgun or bolt action is a HORRIBLE handicap in a fight. You can't get men or animals to WAIT while you go GET " the right gun for the job", either So you're stuck with the most versatile longarm, which is a silenced, shorty AR with night sights, scope option, trigger job, anti-cant bubble level, free float tube and .22lr conversion unit. 62 gr ball for vehicles and choppers. 60 gr softpoints for normal use vs men, dogs, hogs, deer. 69gr hpbt match ammo for use with the scope., to 1/4 mile. 60 gr subsonic Aquila 22 ammo. The ball or tracers being a bit "off" the mark doesn't matter vs moving cars or choppers Zero the "long range' wing of the peep sight at 175m with the 60 gr softpoints. I created a "v-notch" sight out of the luminous "normaL range' wing of the peep sight and zeroed it with the subsonic 22's. If I need the 223 in a hurry, being 2" off at 50m is not going to be the issue and if I have one second to spare, I can flip up the "long range' wing of the peep sight.
    You can't carry the kitchen sink and nothing is perfect. The setup above, however, beats hell out of being caught with nothing but a shotgun, bolt action, etc, which fools 'think' is ok. It most definitely is NOT ok and will get you killed.

    we have powered boats, ultralight planes, night vision, armor, silenced autoriflles and 3x as many people as we did during the depression We've got no non-hybrid seed, no trained horses nor horse drawn farm equipment. 20x fewer people live on farms. People dont have gardens, or "canning" gear for produce. Few starved during the Depression, but most WILL during shtf. There's 100 million cats and dogs in the US, which WILL "pack up' and start taking livestock, etc. They'll eat dead humans and start attacking live people, too. You are not going to be free to just sleep on the ground during shtf, folks.

    Great video, but as an experienced reloader I feel the need to add a few accessories to your list. Start purchasing small rifle, large rifle and small pistol primers. Those are the sizes that you will need for the calibers that you have mentioned. Buy all that you can, whenever you see them. Also another point, start buying powder. In your case, I'd recommend BL-C(2). It's a Hodgdon brand of powder and it will serve all 3 of your rifle rounds. If you are preparing for SHTF, stock up on 2 powders, lots of primers and a single stage press.

    • @TheHandsOnChannel
      @TheHandsOnChannel  8 місяців тому

      Sound advise, thanks. I'm just dipping my toe into the reloading waters. I have a RCBS single stage press, a powder scale, a case tumbler, and a few other accessories. I still need a case trimmer, a primer installer, and 556 and 308 dies. One thing that is a little perplexing to me is, does the case have to be trimmed every time or is it just once in a while? I know it can effect over all length and pressures.

    • @voisindo
      @voisindo 8 місяців тому

      Buy a quality set of calipers and measure your brass. A quality reloading manual will give you trim to lengths. Do not get caught u0 in the reloading brand debate. RCBS, Hornady, Lyman are all quality products. Lee is more economical, but not quite the quality.

    if you have to fire more than 200 rds of centerfire rifle, 500 rds o 22lr, or 50 rds of centerfire pistol in the first 10 YEARS of shtf, you'll be doing so many things wrong that you'll never make it. You've got to get into a tunnel for the first year of shtf and stay there, except for 1 hour per night. The viet Cong lived in tunnels for 30 years the US dropped 500 lb bombs on them. So their tunnels had to be 30 ft down. Your tunnel only needs to be 2 ft underground in order for you to stay warm or cool, with just debris insulation.. You can create a spiderhole in one night. If you start in a spiderhole, you can dig a 10m long tunnel in a week, ending it in another spiderhole. With a year's supply of food scatter-buried nearby, and some garden seeds, you can just let the hell of shtf pass you by.

    300 Win Mag

  • @SonnyCrocket-p6h
    @SonnyCrocket-p6h 8 місяців тому

    you'll have to cache ammo (and anything else) beyond a very few lbs that you can carry. Better to have 'only" silent, subsonic 22's in a 25 rd box mag and 5 shots per second than to have nothing more than a short ranged noisy shotgun, or slow-arsed bolt action, much less a single shot.. You dont want ANYTHING that's noisy or which lacks night sights and trigger job. A year's supply of food for one man costs about $1000, if you know how to go about it, and it's about 8 of the 20 gallon drums. in bulk. You're going to risk death over not spending $1000 and doing a couple of night's worth of digging? Grains, bought directly from the farmer, at harvest season, are about 1500 calories per lb and 50c per lb. You need about 3000 calories per day to hole up in a tunnel, and veggied oils offer about 4000 calories per lb and they are dirt cheap. Peanut butter is also very low in cost, offers 2500 calories per lb and a fair amount of protein.and carbs in it. Powdered milk keeps a long time, is full of proteins and is very cheap, Koolaid is cheap and is cf course, mostly sugar, which keeps forever. Molasses and corn syrup keep for 10 years. and average costing about $11 per gallon when bought in bulk

    the NRA matches 600 yd stages are won with 20" 223's every weekend, bro. This has been true for the past 20 years. Wake up and smell the coffee.. Ever since Sierra brought out the 80 gr match bthp bullet and they made 1 in 8" rifling twist. The thing is, you can't be making noise and you can't be out and about in daylight, so you can forget about long range shooting. you'll just be calling in every enemy in a 1 mile radius. You can forget about small game hunting with the shotgun, cause doing so will get you shot. TRAPPING is many times more efficient than hunting. it can be done at night, silently, 50 place at the same time. Netting, trotlines and Rotenone fish-poison are many times more likely to feed you than is a shotgun.

    you dont want to buy the most useful items, which consist of a silencer, 22 unit NODs, and you want to waste time and money on ammo and guns that have no real use? A good silencer renders full power 223 ammo every bit as "tame' to use as the 22 unit without the silencer So you get to save 40c per shot for snapshooting practice. That pays for the 22 unit and the silencer in one year's practice ammo. and in another year, pays for the night vision goggles.

  • @SonnyCrocket-p6h

    people need to wake tf up, shtf is going to be a horrorshow for everyone, it's not going to be peaceful, like the great depression. The 3200 miles between NYC and San fran has been crossed in 8 days on a bicycle, many times. Anyone can do so in a month.. During the Depression, people didn't have cars or gasoline or roads. There's 8 million motorcycles in the US and every one of them gets 40 mpg, some get 80. Every one of them can have five of the 5-gallon jerrycans of gas lashed to it, This gives the rider 1000-2000 miles of range. He can move at 100mhp and avoid piles of stalled cars. No place in the lower 48 states is more than a nights ride and another night's hike from milions of people. So your spot is NOT "remote", nor ever close to being so. Scores of people already know about that spot, and scores more will find it, post shtf.
