I think that Milk of Mag was loved by those of us with TRULY full faced, fry a chicken on it by noon oily skin. Im not "oily t-zone" lol. I'm oily full mug, especially in summer. I can't justify going back to it because I just worry what it would do long term since it's actual purpose is likely detrimental to skin, bit can't lie-never had anything control oil like it.

I have extremely dry skin and Baby Skin is amazing for me.
As an oily girl, I wanted to like the Milk Hydrogrip so badly but it just brought out all kinds of texture on me. Highlighting all my sins!
I have to avoid anything with the word "hydro".lol that's the type of oil production I'm working against.
I agree with all the primers in “I don’t know her”. Nikki Tutorial had me buying the Nivea stuff. I thought it might have did something for my makeup, but I wanted it to work so much (WHY) that I didn’t trust it, so that was that. I’ve never tried the Milk of Magnesia, I just didn’t want to.
The Tatcha silk canvas was that Girl! I Love it, but I wasn’t crazy about the liquid version they released a couple years ago. It’s funny you are doing this because for the last week I’ve been trying to make a decision on what primers to put in my daughter’s and nieces Christmas Beauty box.
I finally went with the Touch in Sol No Poreblem and Pretty Filter Icy Sherbet primers. I have both and love them. So both of them are getting both versions since one blurs pores and texture and the other is hydrating and grips also.

Out of all the primers I've used, the elf putty poreless is the only one that hasn't wronged me. That rimmel stay matte primer is shea moisture styling gelee status ---- instantly in the trash. I don't know her AT ALL 😩😩😩

My partner moved in recently and he uses it as actual aftershave balm and it is the weirdest throwback scent for me lol.
A few more honorable mentions for normal/dry girls:
1. Becca Ever Matte: You Like it, I Love It. Yes it mattifies like crazy and holds makeup on for 3 days. But it sucked the spirit out of my combo dry/normal skin. WAAAAAY too mattifying. I looked like a fondant wedding cake.
2. Nyx Bare With Me Jelly Primer: You Can't Sit With Us. Dupe for Milk Hydrogrip but a little less grippy. Perfect alternative for normal/dry skin because it has some hydrating properties.
3. Fenty Pro Filter Hydrating Primer (the second one): She's Cute. Feels like skin care with primer benefits. Moisturizers and primes. The first primer (Instant Retouch) is a I Don't Know Her.

Have you tried Elf's Mint Melt Primer compared to Hydrogrip? I've heard that that's the actual dupe, not the JellyPop. Great video!

Blessings Loves~ This is very much needed. I’ve not ever tried the Milk Hydro Grip Primer. One of my fav is the Bobby Brown, the one I reach for is Tacha Silk Canvas. Now if someone doesn’t use primer, it works for them and that works for me. However, prep your face because this has been the issue especially for woman of color. Using makeup products on bare skin is the culprit of the heavy breakouts and that one BIG PIMPLE that stares and speaks to others before you do. 😳🙈😞💯

Being a professional MUA.. MOM truly works!! It’s meant for those who will be performing on the stage under those hot ass lights, movie scenes, dancers, and even models! It keeps the skin from becoming oily and the makeup lasts longer! However, only a little is supposed to be used and don’t recommend it being used on an everyday basis!
I knew you’d have the MOM in there. Would love to see you do one for newer primers like Fenty, Huda, Rare beauty, etc. I have the Fenty, Laura Mercia, tatcha, elf putties, TF, Becca, M Hydrogrip, etc 😫😫 but would still love to see your view on them.

Maybelline baby skin or whatever it’s called has to be one of the WORST primers I’ve ever put on my face. The Rimmell stay matte and Milk grip primer is a staple for me to this day.

You should rank the primer sprays or primer oils. There are some moments where I had lost my mind with the next, new thing to make application easier.

Totally expected NYX Angel Veil primer to be on here. That was my first primer because I saw a Jackie Aina video where she said it was a dupe for HG Veil Primer. When I tell you I was CONVINCED that this one product was going to transform my entire face when I had no idea what I was doing with makeup 🥴

Definitely needed this video. I have combination skin just like you. I’ve been using the Maybelline pore minimizing primers and they are to slippery (because they’re silicone based)& my pores are still there. I need a good/great mattifying primer especially I the summer.
Milk of magnesia and Calamine lotion does what it’s supposed to do girl especially when you live in the tropics ! I don’t use it anymore though 😂😭
Not that you asked for this but here are my opinions of the same primers:
1. MILK Hydro Primer is great! My #1 Favorite and never going away now that I re-discovered it.
2. Never tried Bobbi Brown’s primer
3. I agree with the Benefit primer... it's TERRIBLE! I just knew it was user error but no matter how many times I've tried it, it has NEVER worked! I don't know her either!
4. Smashbox primers & TooFaced are okay, I’ve tried a few but MEH…
5. Tatcha Silk Canvas is OKAY… Maybe I’ve been meaning to revisit it now that I have a face routine down… I would put it below MILK though because it can’t stand on my oily skin alone.
6. I really want to love ELF but ehhhhh I don’t think their products quite work the same TBO
7. I haven’t tried TART’s primer…
8. NYX pore filler is okay/cute, I’m of the same opinion.
9. The other drugstore primers…. MEH not my favorites since I have a crazy oily nose; even if it can control the rest of my T-zone, my nose is undefeated.
10. I tried MOM but it just further dried out the rest of the areas of my skin…
**I like to double prime, Hydro grip all over and then a matte primer on my nose. This has been the best steps for me.
** I would agree if you have oily skin/T-zone a “pore filler” product does NOT work well (at least for me).

Toppers = primers that I use only on nose/excess on top of cheeks

Maybe I have a diffrent kind of oily skin cause that hydro grip did nothing for my skin. Straight honey glazed donut. Neither did hourglass.
That hydro grip caused my foundation to ball up so outta line no matter how much or little I used

Man..that milk of magnesia worked! Lol My makeup did not budge! I’m oily so I thought I hit the jackpot, and it was cheap! But when I found out how HORRIBLE it is for your skin I had to let it go but I haven’t found anything that worked as good since.
Girl same! I’ve moved on to REAL primers now but it’s still clutch for special events when your makeup needs to be bulletproof

I know someone that uses the milk of magnesia as primer. Nothing works for her and it’s the only thing that controls her oils when she’s working. To me it’s a last resort for extremely extreme oily skin.

I got into makeup around the time that babyskin was a craze and I tried it...I thought I was the problem as well because it felt so greasy on my skin (and I have dry skin). It's an absolute no for me as well. Now that milk hydrogrip is my baby. I use the elf version sometimes to keep from using the Milk so much and running out.
Wet and Wild Matte Mat is Bae for Me, but you can't wear it too long if you have oily skin, but she does what she has to do for at least an hour or two, lol
MOM ruined my skin lol took years to fix it and still hasn’t fully recovered. I really put laxative on my face… Chile 🤦🏾♀️
What do you think about calamine lotion as a primer for oily skin?
I can’t even lie the post shave balm worked for me 😅. I didn’t like the smell but it just did something great for my foundation

I still like meh products they’re just not a necessity. If someone tells you if you like it they love it that’s their nice way of say they don’t like it but they’re happy you like it.
Honestly, I don’t really wear primers. I seriously don’t really see a difference when I have tried different primers in the past .
Now I will say, I do like the Milk hydro grip primer the most . I’m still not exactly sure what the primer does for my face but I like the tacky grip feel it gives me. It makes me feel like my makeup will stay on my face lol 😂 milk hydro grip is the only primer I would say I like lol

I love these videos. But it always irks me because it is very confusing to have the positive ones be in red & negatives in green. It is a standard to use green for good things & red as warning/bad. Would it be easy to flip the scale from top to borrom (color wise). My UX Designer inside dies Lol.

Yes I’m one of those who still uses MOM. No primer has ever controlled my oil like it does so it’s staying until I find an actual primer that keeps my oil at bay.

I'm an alien, judging by all the Hydrogrip love. It pills on my skin with three of the foundations Shanygne recommended(which I do love). What am I doing wrong?
The primer and the foundation that you're using are probably made from different ingredients with different densities. Oil and water don't mix well so you may be using a a water based primer hydrogrip with an oil based foundation. They need to both be water based or both oil based to be compatible
I'm a "primer is a scam" person. I just don't see the difference it makes with my makeup prep; noblurring, filtering no nothing. I just care about something that can grip the makeup and not leave transfer.
one thing about primer, I have a foundation that I DESPISE on my skin but if I mix it with a mattifying primer it does actually work really well for me. so if you have an unruly foundation actually mixing in a primer in can do wonders

I always see that primer at my local Walmart… maybe I need to give it a shot one day.
I did half a models face using milk and the other with hourglass veil the other day to see the hype and wow.... The milk looked terrible. Not sure if it was the combination of what went on top but the veil side looked gorgeous.
