Andrea Gibson preforming my favorite poem "I Do", written in response to the results of California's Proposition 8. 2/27/10 Edmond, Ok University of Central Oklahoma
This is the Poem I want to use to propose to my Grilfriend. :3 This summer, I think.. Have a ring picked out. I love Andrea gibson. Did a beautiful rendition of Ashes for my school Talent show
While I was together with my ex girlfriend her and I listened to this all the time. And after months of us being apart, I couldn't help but revisit this poem. It kills me.
I cried too! The first time i saw two guys kiss i was 16 and i cried like a baby when i got home i thought everything i was and thought was just a wasted dream and then i realized hey im real! Love this poem, keeping the hope that someday we will.
How can anyone watch this (and I mean seriously watch it. Shut your mouth, open your heart and watch it) and still say we don't need marriage equality? EVERYONE deserves to be happy.
I've never had a poem move me this much, never cried over something so worth crying over because of the realism and truth and yet disappointment in it. Wonderful. Let's change the world people
I only wish you could have orated this poem at my high school. I'm gay and I'm actually from Kansas. I thought I was the only one for so long. Thank you for this poem, it really means the means so much because I may be gay but I wouldn't change it for the world because I refuse to be a product of the social construction of what society wants me to be rather than who I am. Love is love and let love live no matter what shape or form.
Your poetry is simply beautiful and it helps so much knowing that other people care about the same things I do because sometimes I just feel like I'm so alone. It made me cry like I haven't cried in a long time and it honestly pains my heart to remember that not so long ago we could not love who we wanted and say "I do". This was simply beautiful, you have a real talent.
I am a straight guy. Can't help it - I'm hardwired to love women. But love is love. I'll never understand why anyone would ever hate someone for being who God meant them to be. This poem strikes a chord with me. We cannot help who we fall in love with. Gay, Straight, Bi - we all deserve to feel the love and companionship of another human being.
My very first proper girlfriend in high school in 2012 showed me this poem and it’s stuck with me ever since. I cry every time I hear it. It makes me feel so happy and so sad at the same time and just so emotional and I’m not really a poetry person but this poem will stay with me forever. I think it does such an incredible job of describing the pain so many of us in queer relationships have had to and still have to deal with because of the society we live in, and it’s such a beautiful description of queer love. I can’t get through it without crying but I love it so much I think I might read it as a part of my vows at my wedding next year. Andrea Gibson is a gift and I hope that they are healthy and happy for many more beautiful years to come 💕
This reminds me of my girlfriend so much. I actually didn't know who Andrea Gibson was until she dragged me to one of Andrea's readings at our local college for our first date. And when I heard her perform this, I immediately knew this was our poem. I love you, B, and I do want to spend my life with you
This is so beautiful. It always makes me cry especially when I think that when I marry the woman I love, my older sister will refuse to go to my wedding or acknowledge my marriage.
This makes my heart so happy. Everyone should be allowed to know a love like this - gender aside. Andrea, you are incredibly brave, and you have a beautiful soul. "never go a second hushing the percussion of your heart"
This was amazing. But I have a question. why do people only talk about how its legal for everyone to get married in the United States? It's been legal for years in places like Canada and even longer in German and other places in Europe.
I'd say never say good bye.. Love is eternal and you'll seem em on the other side. ^.^ When it happens tis what I believe not sure about you but that sounds like a mighty fine thing to me. ^.^ Thank you for such a beautiful piece.
This is just MAGIC. Everyone, this is what happened today, I want you to sing it from the rooftops, I want you to scream until you can't anymore. WE DID IT.
Came immediately to listen to this after todays supreme court decision in the US :-)

the goodbye at the end always makes me cry tbh
I actually broke a blood vessel in my eye because I was listening to her poetry for an hour and crying the entire time. She's amazing.
The imagery created is just sublime. My tears are running down my face and I don't even mind.
"But I never needed more then the stars on your skin to lead me home." beautiful. absolutely gorgeous.

Beautiful! It's great to know that everyone can now say " I Do ".
Not everywhere in the world though...
+Kats987124 True. Hopefully someday everyone can :)
At least in the US
@@adambomb1553 Ooof, I wrote this comment when I was 12!! Ignorance was surely bliss.

That just cracked a piece of my heart off. Every time.
This poem will never not make me cry.

"Fear is only a verb if you let it be; don't you dare let go of my hand."
This poem means so much to me. It paints the perfect picture of love.

I cry every time I listen to this! I don't think it is healthy to cry everyday!
This is so beautiful. It always makes me cry especially when I think that when I marry the woman I love, my older sister will refuse to go to my wedding or acknowledge my marriage.
"In a world that could have left us hard as metal, we were as soft as nostalgia together..."

Oooooo she gave me chills. She is so good at what she does and I love what she stands for and how much she believes it and I love her love story
Not only is she a beautiful artist, she's a beautiful speaker. Even if I could write something so prefect, I wouldn't be able to share it this well.
Crying, crying because it's so true. It's beautiful and true.

This was amazing. But I have a question. why do people only talk about how its legal for everyone to get married in the United States? It's been legal for years in places like Canada and even longer in German and other places in Europe.
