I realized I wasn't genderfluid when I bound my chest for the first time... I've been a guy since I was born, but I didn't know it until I looked in that mirror and cried from joy of seeing my true self for the first time...

Adrian Humphrey but I'm not your husband. He fits in his body. I don't. My body isn't what it should be.

I thought the skirt thing was kinda funny. However most people don't see them selves as the opposite gender or one of the growing list of genders. "When did you realize you were trans?" It's a legit question. All they are asking is "when did you realize you didn't fit into the norm that the vast vast majority of people do." It's not like they asked "When did you realize you were a freak in need of mental help".

I feel like it really depends on the context of the question. Some people can be really condescending or rude, almost demanding an answer. Not because they care but because they don't understand and honstly, don't want to. This is what the poem is talking about. But I do think it can be a valid question. Though some people can not name an exact time they realized it there are moments, at least with myself and everyone I have talk to that is not cis, that they have felt the effects of being "out of the norm".

End all labeling, ends all problems. Lets just live with one another without defining one another. Only realizing that we're all breathing the same air. Drinking the same water, taking from the same earth.

No, it doesn't. I understand the point you're coming from, which is the desire that everyone can be accepted as who they are. But the thing is, that's not the reality. People use labels because those labels empower them. Labels are useful. Words like "creative", "writer", "artist", "athlete", "parent" tell us things about a person, let the one with the label show their pride in their identity. And also, it allows them to show the struggles they went through. Take "cancer survivor". Claiming that label says "I went through incredible challenges and hardships. I fought for my life, and I'm winning." It allows a person to acknowledge their struggle, to claim their story as their own. And to deny them that label, and the freedom to use that label, erases their struggle and their strength. In addition, we don't live in a world where everyone is equal and nobody cares what gender, sexuality, religion, ability status, mental health status, class, race, ethnicity, etc. other people are. Claiming a label allows you to claim your identity, to own who you are, and to own the extra work you have to do in order to be seen as equal/competent/respectable/etc. And so, until we do, let people claim their labels.
