I saw Bjoerling sing this Role complete in Chicago, at Chicago Lyric opera in 1958, I was 18 years old . He sang it very much like he did here on the Ed Sullivan 1957 TV show.
I wish we still had this kind of glorious entertainment by trained singers with gorgeous voices instead of that crap on The Voice, American Idol, etc. Jussi's voice always touches my soul.
She was always dependable and sang so many times at the Met. probably in the thousands, for many long years, and a fine singer .(They called her Tippy!)
