In my view, apart from the customer service, the advantage of Charter Arms is that they are smaller, lighter, and less expensive than the competition. That doesn't seem to be true of the mag pug. Maybe it's less expensive than a Taurus 605, but not by much. I think Taurus does have more refined options, but I appreciate that Charters are made in the USA by an American small business. Thanks for the update, Greg!

That's some really impressive customer service! Charter Arms is the best. My Undercover and my wife's Undercover were both excellent in all respects from the get go. I did have to send my Police Undercover back for a couple of minor issues, and had excellent customer service. In all, Charter Arms is my favorite gun.

I ordered the grips that were supposed to be on the gun, so I'm not kicking it to the curb yet. If it keeps holding up for .357, it may become my hiking and trail gun.

Got you a new sub here for reviewing a Charter Arms revolver. Most GunTubers turn their noses up at CA but a lot of us have them and want to see reviews. It’s a brand people should know about.
I have an Undercover .38 snubbie (standard weight, not “Lite”) that I purchased new back in the summer of ‘22. I’ve put hundreds of rounds through it so far. It’s not my exclusive carry but I do carry it with some regularity, especially going to and from work. I can’t carry while I’m at work, and I am leery of leaving something more expensive in the car all day, so in the unlikely but theoretically possible event that my car is broken into and it gets stolen, I’m not out that much money.
Only problem I had with it was occasional light primer strikes on double action, once with my original choice of carry ammo (Underwood +P Gold Dot) and a few times with off brand range ammo known for having hard primers (Armscor, Norma). With Remington, Winchester, Federal, and PMC ammo, I’ve experienced no malfunctions whatsoever (and I now use Federal defensive carry ammo).
Mine has a couple of cosmetic tooling dings and I’m not too thrilled aesthetically with the plastic trigger guard/grip frame piece, but otherwise I am quite pleased with this little revolver. The proprietary rubber grips fit my hand perfectly, and the trigger pull for both double and single action - especially single action - is quite good. Charter Arms really did their ergonomic homework; the overall feel and shootability of my Undercover is very nice. For the $375 I paid for it out the door, I think I got an excellent value. It is reliable, accurate, and actually downright fun at the range.
Glad the folks at Charter Arms took care of you, and I hope you wind up enjoying your revolver as much as I enjoy mine. Looking forward to seeing more videos on this one.

Thanks for sharing. With the lemons there are often cherries. It is good to know that some people have had good experiences with Charter. I know Boge Quinn of Gunblast.com, who I respect a great deal, loves Charter. BTW - I ordered a set of the proprietary grips. I have no clue how I wound up with those Compact Rubber grips on my gun, and Eric from their customer service didn't know either.

Congrats on the quick turnaround. I agree of course that it would make better sense to have seen to it that these things be caught before the gun leaves the factory both financially for Charter, and for the piece of mind to end user. However, we both know who's also been letting revolvers out the door with problems for at least the last 5 or 6 years on a much grander scale.....
Those Mag Pug .357's loosen up quickly with .357 use. Far too quickly for me. I'm passing on them going forward even though I like and use Charter guns.

    Thanks for the video!
I love that CA is a small, family run American business with excellent customer service.
... I only wish they didn't have to employ that customer service so frequently.
That said, I will likely still own a couple just to give them a chance. I'd really like to see some long term, high round count durability testing just to see if they will stand up to it, or if it truly is just a "carry often, shoot little" throwaway tool.
You, Dan WM, Gunblast, and Revolver Roundup are some of the ONLY channels to actually cover these things with any kind of great detail.

It is difficult to transition between manufacturers. We have seen how every firearm is compared to a Glock. But, not every gun purchased is a Glock.
Charter Arms has a recipe to their offerings. They have a feel to them that is unique. They are optimized as you noted for self defense not Bullseye Shooting.
The POA and POI issue probably has to do with bullet weight and velocity. I bought a Ruger LCR-X and it had issues. “ Thee Internet “ said to install a 22 Caliber front sight. It worked.
Painting the front sight two colours to differentiate the POA for different bullets works.
Cowboys always had to file front sights yo get things to match up on POA and Impact on their Colts.

if the manufacturers put out quality, it's not that difficult. of all my revolvers, and i have over 10 of at least 6 manufacturers, 2 from spain, function as they are supposed to. cgarter needs to step up their game in today's world to survive. there is a reason they are lower tier.

I think the Charter Arms revolvers are the best ‘travel’ guns. By being reasonably priced, I don’t have to worry if an airline employee steals it. Revolvers are acceptable in every jurisdiction, whereas magazine capacity can become in issue in many places. I do worry about long term durability with them, and I’ll admit to only firing a few cylinders through mine. I practice with higher quality revolvers and shoot the bare minimum out of my Bulldog, just to stay acquainted with the recoil and point of aim/impact.

Good morning Greg. First off I truly believe your turn around time for service was due to you having a you tube channel. My Charter Arms had similar problems. I waited almost 2 months to get mine back, no emails. The phone calls I made were answered with we didn't get to it yet. Yes I do agree with your statement about it would be cheaper to test fire a gun before shipping it out.

@@theepicgamerultimate4831 You might be right about that. It has been interesting. Based on comments on my videos, with Taurus it seems to be about 30/70 on the customer dissatisfaction/satisfaction. With Charter it seems to swing in the opposite direction.

I bought a 44 bulldog in 2011, it functions fine but like yours shot low. I filed my front sight to achieve point of aim. I do occasionally carry it and trust this gun to work, if needed. A lower cost made in the USA tool.

Hi Greg, thanks for the honest review, the front sight is indeed very high and I consider it a project flaw, nobody is taught to aim with the front sight sticking up in aimed fire and, when you look over the barrel as in Ayoob's stress index, you hold at 6 o'clock to compensate.

thank you for the info. i'm glad they got it working. i hope it continues to work. ai least they have good customer service. i'll continue caddying the 605, backed up with my keltec p11, astra a75 (stainless 9mm in summer and blued 40 in winter) or glock 22 if going somewhere i'm not comfortable. all go bang and hit where i aim. i wonder why they went complicated with their ejector, giving more moving parts to mess up. maybe when it gets broken in it will be all good.

Did CA Customer Service know you were reviewing on UA-cam? My Charter Arms Undercoverette Off Duty (.32 Mag) had light primer strikes on a variety of ammo. I was sent a heavier hammer spring, green in color original in light blue, and that did not fix the problem. Customer Service reported to me the gun is designed for Federal Primers. Sure enough, not one light primer strike. Not a problem for reloading, but would prefer all varieties working.

Hey Greg last night for me your comments were turned off...you or YT B.S.? It will be interesting to see if how my pitbull .40 holds up since only 20 ounces & I'll likely shoot it more than most. And I still have beautiful blinged out Undercover 2 vids to put out. Already had Pitbull out 3 or 4x I think peeps may want to watch the review. I Haven't filed mine as I'm using the paint as a Dot the I like a big dot may work and be faster. It's a pocket BUG to me so if I had to it would likely be within 10 yards if not contact. Maybe someday will shave down but lost my file. I do love the 2.2" or 2.3" on many. people don't realize balistically how much better than a 1 7/8s that is. I may have turned them on to suggesting Federal ammo for lighter primers full reliability. Since yours doesn't have a full spurred hammer weight be mindful of that for carry. If I can get my grips up and running I'll send you some.
