- X-Men '97 is an American animated television series created by Beau DeMayo for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team X-Men. It is a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992-1997), continuing from where that series ends. It depicts the X-Men facing dangerous new challenges following the loss of their leader Professor Charles Xavier. X-Men '97 is produced by Marvel Studios Animation, with DeMayo serving as head writer for the first two seasons, and Jake Castorena as supervising director.
Several cast members return from the original series to reprise their roles or voice new characters, including Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton, Alyson Court, Lawrence Bayne, and Ron Rubin. The revival was first discussed in June 2019 and was formally announced in November 2021; DeMayo and Castorena were involved by then. Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura also directed episodes. DeMayo was fired as head writer after completing work on the series' first two seasons in March 2024 ahead of the series premiere. The series is the first X-Men project from Marvel Studios since the studio regained the film and television rights to the characters. Animation was provided by Studio Mir and is a modernized version of the original series' style.
Happy Nation is the debut studio album by Swedish pop group Ace of Base. It was initially released in Denmark on 2 November 1992 by Mega Records. During development of the record, the group was heavily influenced by a Jamaican reggae band residing in a nearby studio. For a release in North America, Japan and some Latin American countries, the album was retitled The Sign with a heavily revised track listing and three new tracks. To coincide with this, Happy Nation was reissued with the new tracks in other territories as Happy Nation (U.S. Version). In 1995, Guinness Book of World Records named the LP the best-selling debut studio effort in music history, at more than 19 million copies sold worldwide. By 1998, Happy Nation/The Sign had sold approximately 21 million units including 9 million in the US alone. Happy Nation/The Sign is one of the best-selling albums of all time.

I think it's definitely one of the best scenes. It's just got so much going on, and what follows is just stunning -- in the best use of the word. I was genuinely speechless after the episode.

Right?! As it played I couldn’t help but feel uneasy and frightened for what eventually came next. It gave me the chills!
Early Ace of Base always had this dark and sinister edge compared to other European Dance acts that made them stand out, especially on the very first album. I mean, you just have to consider the lyrics of Happy Nation and realize that the song is basically about Ulf Ekberg's struggle with being a former neo-Nazi and trying to distance himself from that past by embracing positive thoughts.
That is why this song fits perfectly in this scene not only with the foreboding music, but also with the lyrics describing the struggle between humans and mutants.

This scene and the horror to follow was the best in the entire MCU franchise, including the movies. Spooky, mysterious, sexy, dynamic, tragic, horrific. I was in absolue awe and reaffirmed why I loved the x-men to begin with. Though this season ended on a pretty weak note, this, for me, will be the high point of artistry in superhero entertainment.

A theory :
Cable says at 2:24 "Not again", which means he has been trying to change the timeline of his past or the present and warns about the mass murder at Genosha. This is the same storyboard as "Time Fugitives" like the previous episodes of X-men : The Animated Series.
We can't lose hope on Gambit's return
Gambit is going to come back as one of the Horsemen of Apocalypse it’s going to be sadder
I feel like Madelyn will come back in some form, even fight along side Sinister and the others or even the xmen
Cable already said in the story it's impossible to change these events as he's tried and it's a fixed point in time.
Even then considering they've gone through other episodes and plot threads, this story is going to have to stand - including most of the deaths - as generally in fiction a time travel reset will happen close to the original event or things happen in such a way that there's no way to resolve it without that. But there's been too many plot threads that need to stay - Charles returning, S9 basically happening, and Storm's arc. They can't retcon Genosha as her arc happens separate to it and they're not going to repeat that.
Like it or not Genosha will happen and will always happen. A lot of my favourites are dead. Banshee, Marrow, Callisto, Dazzler are some of my all time favourite characters but Gambit IS my favourite X-Man. Second favourite Marvel character only to Spidey.
However I think Gambit and mayyyyybe Banshee will be back... a lot of us are speculating how. If you know, you know the Four reasons he'll be back. I could see Marrow being a 3rd with Banshee and Gambit... would Sebastian or Callisto be a fourth?

Hate to go all GCSE, but the significance of the song ‘a man will die but not his ideas’ is entirely what magneto is basing his actions around, Xavier’s Death, but not letting his hope for a better mutant future die with him. And Genosha now is seen as this ‘happy nation’ which reflects magnetos original vision of a mutant utopia. The song perfectly combines the two ideas and captures magnetos character in this series perfectly. The dance between magneto and rogue, considering events before this and him choosing her as his empress, reflects another line in the song not heard here ‘no man is fit to rule the world alone’ hence he not only has his council, but also his empress. I will now receive my full marks haha

More than half of Fox’s movies were a generic mess. While some of X-men 97 is rushed you can see care and passion for comic characters and storytelling.
