You are lucky to have snow this year. I live near Minneapolis MN we have not had any snow on the ground since mid December, which really sucks when you enjoy cross-country skiing. Since I have not been bear hunting for years I use Obenauf's leather preservative, my son was a Wildland firefighter in college and they swear by it.
Thank you Lisa. No bear fat. I made some dubbin with 1 part rendered lamb's fat ( I ate the chops after removing the fat), 1 part bee's wax, and 1 part vegetable oil. It works great on leather too. My boots, snowshoe harnesses, gloves, all last me a long time.
Dan you have to source that out from a hunter. A lot is f times they are happy to just give it to you. The fat can be frozen fresh before you render it. I’ve often wondered if the same could be achieved with lard, snow cake lard sold in the grocery store and beeswax but I’ve never tried it. If you try it let me know.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll look for it.
Sno-Seal and a hairdryer (or heat gun) is what I’ve always used.
Yes, also very good. I love that we all have our own secret formula.
Good advice Lisa, winter is a good time to take care of our gear especially when we still use old traditional gear.
Absolutely!
Excellent job Lisa. 👏 happy Valentine's day

Oh good. That’s fantastic!
I've never had a bear hunt. its on my bucket list.
I’ve only eaten it 4 times and each time it was outstanding. I’ve rendered the fat and the good stuff looks just like olive oil when you’re done.
Nice video Lisa. Only a few of us still use leather, like you said it can last for a long time if its taken care of.
Very true!
Thanks for the info! Appreciate you!
My pleasure!
I’ve been using beeswax and mink oil for years on leather. Works great but the smell can be an acquired taste!!
Great tip! Thanks for sharing.
good info, thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Where can we get bear oil
