- Das Vereinigte Königreich liefert der Ukraine 23 CVR(T) Scimitar leichte Aufklärungspanzer.
Bewaffnet mit einer 30mm Rarden-Maschinenkanone und einem 7,62mm GPMG-Maschinengewehr, wurden die Fahrzeuge erst im April 2023 bei den britischen Streitkräften ausgemustert.
Aus diesem Anlass hier ein kleines Scimitar-Special.
The United Kingdom is supplying Ukraine with 23 CVR(T) Scimitar light reconnaissance tanks.
Armed with a 30mm Rarden machine cannon and a 7.62mm GPMG General Purpose Machine Gun, the vehicles were only decommissioned from the British armed forces in April 2023.
To mark this occasion, here's a little Scimitar special.

Is it true the Scorpion was retired early due to a fault with the cannon pushing toxic gases back into the interior of the vehicle when fired?
@@MrHowardMoon according to the H&S folks and the RAF Regt guys, yes…. According to the real men in the rest of theArmed Forces,nope! They were just a bunch of wussies!
It was partly the gasses coming back inside, and partly a treaty to get rid of a number of weapon systems over 75mm signed with jolly old Ivan in the early 90’s. Well, thats what they told us when we lost them. 76mm fits the bill according to the letter of the treaty, if not the spirit….
Easier to lose Scorpion than anything heavier, besides, Scorpion hulls were fitted with Fox 30mm turrets after they were scrapped and haunted the army as Sabres for another few years….. we actually lost very few actual platforms with the switch…

I do wonder how all the CVR(T) that have gone to Ukraine so far have fared. I've seen a few burnt out Spartans but that's all I know. I know the Spartans and similar are good for casvac but traditional manned recce is a thing of the past, so I guess close support is the role for the Scimitar? A Rarden gun should mess up a BMP-1 pretty well but doesn't have the ROF for defended positions.

Good gear in it's day,getting a bit long in the tooth now.
They are history mate, at least in british service.
They'll probably see use as direct fire support and rear area logistics for a long time in mountain or boggy terrain where heavier vehicles just can't go with less developed nations. But their role as forward scouts is long over. In the age of missiles drones and thermal imagery they're just too vulnerable. Speed and visual concealment are no longer sufficient protection which was always the point of the platform. A shame really because they were a lot of fun.
