This is my home. I'm 2nd generation American. My grandparents moved here before Hitler invaded Poland. They would have surely died in the camps. God bless all who suffered and rest in peace 🙏💔💋
I am a young Varsovian, and I hope that everyone gets to see the city at some point. Today’s Warsaw is not like Their Warsaw anymore, but it is beautiful in its decay, modernity, but first and foremost, history. We shall never forget what happened, never again!!
From the perspective of the physical Warsaw (versus the people, its history and soul), from this documentary I see a city bathed in trees and soviet structures. Overtime, perhaps these structures will be imploded and new ones built. Having said that, I bet the apartments in those soviet buildings are larger than apartments and condos in today's hastily built glass towers.
It would be good to see how Warsaw looked before the war. It was a beautiful city. Then see it now 2021. It has changed so fast even in the years since this documentary. I was there in 1991..There was nothing. No skyline except the Russian Culture building.
I'm Polish, Warsaw was very beautiful, but for now this city is a garbage. But current polish government want to rebuild more old buildings, so lets wait and See how will the Warsaw looks like.
The production of this documentary is outstanding. The revisiting of the empty cable car throughout the film is a powerful symbol of death, loss, and remembrance.
i agree. except for the dubbing part. I dislike it a lot. I dont like an English speaking person translating someone speaking Polish Looses authenticity
My mother was from Lodz. Her and her family was put on a train going to Auschwitz. She survived but her mother and father and brothers and sisters didn't. My poor mother may she rip...
I am deeply sorry for your loss. I am Catholic. I always think of Jewish people as my brothers and sisters. I am grieving for what they had to go through in this world and sometimes they still have to. I would like to ask them for forgiveness. I do not know whether it is even possible. Hello from Prague.
Old Warsaw Ghetto is now mostly Muranów district of Warsaw, i lived there recently (close to Pawiak prison) and fact worth mentioning is that most of those reconstructed buildings were made using rubble of old ones. And the remains of people murdered are still there. It was the intention of post war architect of the district to rebuild this place this way, so there was no actual professional exhumantions. "Sea of rubble" was 3 meters high so they didnt dig into the basements and just builded over it (thats why most of the buildings stands on little hills). If you do any groundwork around the district you can still find human bones, old building parts etc. Some of which are right under the sidewalks (old building rubble) and visible as the sidewalk slowly collapses over time. Living in this part of Warsaw was really special, hard to explain, it was just different than anywhere else. To all souls lost in this tragedy - rest in peace. Never again war
It's an appalling atrocity how you have built parts of buildings and sidewalks built from many old Jewish graves with inscriptions still clearly visible.Youf people have no regrets and no respect obviously. A shame and disgrace. And on top of that your government has tried to deny the Holocaust.Well unfortunately for you Jews have long memories and we will make sure the world remembers.
Sidebar : If i became aware of remains/artifacts I would reverently step back as to not disturb the memory/essence of those individuals and their places of life. 🙂↕️
Thank you for this documentary. I have been living in Warsaw for the last 8 years and I think it is the best city in the world. It was rebuilt from the ashes and now it is again a 2-million-people metropolis. It is my home. There is no comparison to the night view of the city skyline rising upon Vistula riverbanks in the evening. This city has the ability to survive and thrive no matter what. Documentaries like this one are important, especially today, in times of hate, discrimination, lies and misinformation - we must NEVER repeat the mistakes of the past. NIGDY WIĘCEJ WOJNY - KEIN KRIEG MEHR - NO MORE WAR.
@@olavwilhelm6843 it may have been beautiful. Now it reminds me of a Disney cartoon Nowy swiat ulica was rebuilt as it was before the one that was destroyed because they had no money.
@@MrPaultopp No, Polish people themselves returned to live in ruins and rebuilt the city with their own hands, women and men alike, including many renowned pre-war Modernist architects like Bohdan Pniewski or Stefan Karpiński. Forgeigners from USSR were partially involved only in the construction of the Palace of Culture and Science in the centre of Warsaw.
I've been to Warsaw couple of times, it is a vibrant, modern city full of happy and amazing people. It is unbelieveable how much history, tears and blood that city saw. Warsaw is like Fenix, the will of people will always keep it alive. Greeting from Australia and all the best, Poland please become a local superpower and keep progressing towards the strenght.
We r geting there. Meaning becoming local superpower. We use to be very strong country and one of the biggest in Europe. We could fight with other superpowers at the same time and usually win if not we still made it to exist. We had to fought with Ottoman Empire, Holy Roman Empire of German House, Teoutonic Order, Russians (we had to occupie Moscov for 2 years) Sweden, Tatars(Mongols) Czech Kingdom and others. But finally we had lost. Losers dont write history. Winers do. Thats why in English speakin countrys Such as yours we r seen as dumb savages, barbarians. Its proven that thanks to German imigrants to the States and Canada and Iam sure Australia too. We have been viewd as stupid, dumb and very backwards cultur Group of People. Mark my words. Poland will b superpower again and Its gona Take US that long. Look already what we have achive during only 30 years of real independence. Poland is not developing country anymore. Its developed one. We have stronger economy then any of eastern European country. Economy is bigger then Grece, Portugal and geting close to Spain and Italy. All of this in just 30 years. Australia become a new superpower, better then U. S. ALL THE BEST TO U PEOPLE.
A sad, and excellent film. I was in Warsaw in 1973 and saw the old city being rebuilt, and noticed the contrast between the beautiful, old Polish architecture and the stark, concrete blocks of the Stalinist buildings. It was the saddest city I have ever visited. In the centre there were shrines on almost every corner where the Nazis had massacred people, Poles, Jews or whoever was in their way. Let us not forget.
I am first generation German, I'm absolutely ashamed to what happened to the people of Poland, the ghetto. Poor Poland suffered so bad between the Germans and the Russians. Sad
As a Polish person I can confidently say that Poles do not blame the Germans or Russians who were children back then, let alone weren't even born at the time. Your comment warms my heart because what you said and the time you took to learn about the past shows what a good person you are. As long as the past is remembered, and lives in us, there is a chance that this terrible history will not repeat itself. Love from Poland
I learned a lot of information from the documentary that I had not known previously. It's good that there are documentaries like this to provide more details about such an important part of history that should never be forgotten.
Love should always be stronger than hate. Even if it is just our own heart. We can't always control outside forces or political powers,, but with God's grace we can be kind and loving to all of God's children creation.
Race is not the topic here, certain ideoIogies should say no to and even written in some books, trying to equaIize is the worst thing and taking their voice.
This is a film that must be seen. Poignant and unflinching in it's telling of a terrible truth all should know. Thank you Alfons Ziółkowski. Thank you Eric Bednarski and all those who took part and were involved.
My grandfather was polish and came to the uk at the start of the war. He was part of the polish Air Force. He was always an angry man and would never ever discuss the war. If something came on the tv about the war or concentration camps, he was roar in anger to switch it off. Sadly we will never know what he saw or lived through. He always loved his home country and only got to return once, and that was when he retired. He seemed calm and happier when he came back, for a time but, at least he got to see his family one more time. Over all the years they kept in touch by letter every single month and he always sent money, right up until he had a massive stroke and couldn’t anymore. It’s disgusting what happened to the people of Poland and especially Jewish communities all over Europe too. May they all rest in peace.
When I was a kid,in the 70s,my Polish grandma would collect our old clothes and send them over.(from US) Her family was still there & letters were sent back n forth..One time she showed us a picture. There was a boy my age (8ish) wearing my old baby blue, fake fur cuffed parka..With a smile like he hit the lottery..That's when I got the poverty/communism talk..The coat was warm, that's all that mattered.Spun my head..When I was older she told me that she would put brand new Levi's in the boxes that they could trade for $$$..
I know there was a Polish airforce based here in the UK. And they fought hard. The British Government treated them appallingly after the war, completely dismissive of all their vital help. This country wouldn’t have won the war without the Polish. Perhaps that’s why your grandfather was so angry. A very belated thank you from myself and my family ❤️❤️
@@karenjewell6543 Both of my father's parents came from Poland, but my Grandma died in 1963, I was about 7 years old. My Grandfather never spoke of anyone in Poland, I don't think he was able to contact any surviving family. I know he came from Tarnow, and I found on-line records of his 1880 baptism. I intend to travel there after I retire.
Thank you DW for another outstanding look into the history of WWII and what took place across Europe. The reports issued by DW are always very insightful, and are not a mish-mash of previous information reported by numerous other sources. It is a modern look into the events of the past and helps us remember. If we remember, we do not repeat the horrible mistakes of the past.
The Polish people have been treated miserably throughout history, yet they opened their arms and their hearts to millions of Ukrainians. The polish people are so happy and friendly, yet so self sufficient, and clever. I find their attitude quite remarkable.
We don't realise how lucky we are ,we can get all kinds of help when it's needed, they had no one to help them, parents trying to find enough food for their children is just one of the things that's heart breaking, never mind all the other things that broke their hearts

As a native German I lived abroad and met Holocaust survivors. Having been made aware of German crimes at an excellent school I felt responsible for these crimes and grew up with an awareness for tolerance and decency. When I watched this film, I once again realised the atrocity of it all and broke out in tears, especially, when I saw that young boy being beaten by the policeman. This film is made to commemorate Warsaw what it used to be, and the murdered Jewish community and their suffering.
Remember, the atrocities will never be your fault. They are the fault of those who actually never took responsibility for their own actions, ie Hitler , Goebbels, Himmler, etc.. their failures and the loss of WW1, the financial climate after that war and the Depression was the fault of the Jews. They made excuses as do people here in the USA do. The slavery issues of the Civil War are being blamed on people of this day and she. Like your parents, our families could barely get along during the 1800s. No one had the time to pay attention nor could they afford to.
I met some Germans who refused to have an opinion about this documentary (not interested) So your comment is very welcomed here Also to be reminded those Jews were Polish citizens only difference religion After the Jewish Getto population was killed Germans were planning to kill the rest of the Polish population (Catholics) but the war ended watch it the lady speaks about it how Warsaw was divided and why
What a wonderful film. Thank to all who were involved in the film's production. It's been years since I've been in Warsaw but wish to return and follow the ghetto history.
Been to Warsaw many times.... This city suffered so much ...but respect to the city for rising from the ashes and RIP to every person who lost their life, and those of their families
Thanks for coming forward and teaching the next generation! God Bless all of you! Many of us know the quote "Those who refuse to learn from the past, are condemned to repeat it .
When I was younger I hated so much history I always thought about the past is the past and we should move forward. Now that I'm older and a little bit wiser, I love documentaries and history because now I know that thanks to the past history im here. And im always so grateful for the past and for learning about it
"History does not repeat, but it rhymes " I don't remember who's quote. Try understanding history as a perpetrator. What made people, just like you and me, do these things? How can I make sure I will choose better, what would the consequences be?
With the way Trump base is doing these days we aren't free from it yet. They still spew the hate online in every simple opportunity. It is sad most human beings haven't learnt anything from history.
@Frogfur FightingAgainstTrudeau All right! Here we go again. Trump supporters always resorting to threat when they are told the truth. This is not Capitol Hill though. This is not slander either but reality. To deny that fact is to deny reality. I have been in many online platforms long enough to know that my previous statement holds. Actually, Trump base is a form of cult-personality thing without reserve for decency in most cases. Those following him will attack you for every opportunity, like you are trying to do now. I hope you read my post with an open mind. If only you are ready to change and the alleged and unverifiable 80 million plus followers. The staggering number is scary and points to slim hope for a better humanity. On the final note, I am not spewing hate. At least, you would have to point it out in my prior post rather that just using that term for comment sake.
When you are young you have nothing but the future; but when you are old you have nothing but the past. When taught correctly, history is a combination of both. That is why I am so grateful for these documentaries because it is never too late to recognize evil and correct its wrongs.
In the past year, I read slot of holocaust and saw testimonials, documentaries, real life stories and it just overwhelms me to a point where I feel so sorrowful for the men, women and children who died for no reason! I’d just want to say that they are all remembered and I pray for the peace of their souls and family.
My grandparents lived through this in Warsaw...and still despised the Soviets more. My grandpa was 19 and my grandma 21 when the war started. We aren’t Jewish but they were a part of the resistance army during the uprising. Man they had some stories...I miss them...

Chyba w poblizu był sierociniec Korczaka, bo ona się z takimi później dziećmi kontaktowała. Tez poznałam trochę historii, niestety babcia zmarła.
Well they weren't Jews. My parents blessed the Russians who saved them. Then they left Poland forever as let's say they hadn't a lot of good to say about Poles either.
I've lived in Poland for a while and every single person who I met hated more the Soviets than the Nazis, which was a surprise for me at that time. They say that more than 40 years of Soviet humiliation was much worse than what the Nazis did.
To see those beautiful, brave and innocent kids risking their lives just for smuggling some food, breaks my heart. Not even in a thousand years, Germany will be able to get rid of this awful legacy.
The thing, Germany has an aweful legacy yes, and a lot of other countries have one as well. People from the world need to remember not to ever reproduce those atrocities again, not expect other people to amend for a past which is not theirs, but those of their parents...
@@annabees i agree with you, but what Germany did cannot be compared with any other country. The scale of evil the Nazis Implemented is unique in its criminality. The Japanese were very close in their crimes and evil, but far away for getting to achieve such massive, organized, industrial type of human extermination. Yes, we can’t blame the current German generations, but the dark and awful history of their country remains as a fact.
@Tyler Evans I highly doubt you would feel or think so if it were your misery that was being talked about. Beware of losing your sympathy for human suffering, the rest can be discussed, debated, philosophized about.
It’s so painful to know the horrors of what was done to these innocent people. The horror of living in that time, is for me just unimaginable, it’s terrifying to watch. Warsaw. A tragic city. It's a strange feeling looking at the film of the ghetto citizens, knowing that most of them would be dead soon after the filming. All that remains of those people are those fleeting images.

38:04 brought me to tears... a precious little boy trusting his daddy.... who knows what horrors may have come to them. May God never it happen to my precious little boy. God help us.
I feel horribly uneducated about this time in world history, so I’m learning through watching these documentaries. Its made me realize how diligent we must be to make sure this never happens again. The horrors that people suffered are incredibly sad, the resilience of survivors is absolutely astounding. I think everyone needs to watch these shows lest we forget history. This must never happen again.
My Father in law fought in WW2 and he told me he learned more about history and the war on THE HISTORY CHANNEL than he ever knew. Apparently it was on a NEED TO KNOW basis and the US Government felt like they just didn't need to know.
Being Jewish living in America, I look at the pictures, read the books , watch the films and to be honest I have nearly an impossible time trying to understand what happened but also trying to understand what it was like to live under the circumstances that existed during that time., and I just can't do it. Hard to wrap your mind around it.G-D bless all then and now !
My parents survived. There was always Jew hatred in Europe it was seething. Various institutions accepted hitler. The pope was the first to recognize hitler giving his acceptance. They knew Jews were not strong. They didn’t have a country they could go to. America had very strict quotas against Jews. Jews were stranded in a hell hole. The Red Cross was only there for the Jews after the war to search for relatives. They even refused to recognize the Magen David atom- Israel Red Cross but, they. Accepted the Muslim crescent. Jew hate didn’t die. It’s underground
Same here. I know so much about that time and all that happened but i simply cannot understand it on a very profound level. sometimes I’m trying to imagine the horrible things when standing in a place where some of the events took place but it’s hardly possible. we have step stones in many places, golden stones in the ground with the names of people on them who fell victim to the nazi regime including some additional information. I love this idea because it honors the dead in a very personal, respectful way and integrates their memory into our everyday life.
Every country suffered under Nazi occupation, but the Germans & Russians had particular animosity for Poland. It is heart-breaking & tragic the horrors that unfolded in a wonderfully vibrant country. Yet the Polish people never gave up! How ever dark the hour was, pick up ANY book of the Second World War and you'll understand how ferocious, tenacious and relentless were the Polish forces fighting for the Allies. From the Battle of Britain to Montecassino in Italy to the Falaise Gap in France, never underestimate the Poles! Neither Fascism nor Communism ever stood a chance with Poland!
Starting a war over it was stupid but there is some reason why poland was disliked by its 2 neighbours. Nevertheless diplomacy should have been enough but the idiot Hitler was out of his mind.
@NVP no one denies the sacrifice the Soviets made to defeat Hitler but it is correct to say that prior to the Nazi invading the Soviet Union the non aggression pact.between Hitler and Stalin saw Poland carved up between them.
My great grandfather's brother Mendel Oppenheim (72 years old at the time) built a bunker as a preparation to the Ghetto uprising, where he was hiding with his sister Anna Oppenheim (aged 58), his daughters Judith Oppenheim (aged 33) and Malka Hoffman (aged 45) and her family - husband Gershon and two daughters Hava (aged 20) and Ida (aged 25) , also Mendel's son Fred Oppenheim (aged 43) with his wife Rachel (aged 38) with two children a boy and a girl aged 7 and 9. The bunker was discovered by the Germans in the first few days of the uprising, all of the family was dragged out, put against a wall and shot. I have an eye witness report. For many people this is not history, but a leaving pain. May their souls rest in peace, their blood revenged!!!!
Thank you for this -- I think you make some of the best documentaries in the world and I am so thankful that you create content in English. I am grateful.
Have you checked out Mark Felton Productions? I just finished watching a 3 episode documentary on the Jewish Uprising in the ghetto. Very detailed. If only the Poles would have helped the Jewish resistance Fighters fight the Nazis in the ghetto when they had the chance...
I like it that German makers of this documentary had enough civility to call the perpetrators of this horrible crime by their real name, i.e., ‘Germans’, instead of cryptic ‘Nazis’. They didn’t have enough civility, though, to go into the mass killing that their forefathers perpetrated. It was mentioned but without much emphasis. The geographic layout of the Warsaw Ghetto was given much more attention, as if it really mattered.
To describe the pain, horrors and atrocities would be an underestimation. I hope we all learn a lesson about the effect of dehumanization, which is the cause of hate and destruction. In essence, we are truly one; all of us, regardless of race, ideology, sex, nationality or religion, it's called the human race. Let us focus on the 99 % we have in common. The world is so ready for healing, love and unity.
Let's not forget the dehumanization of the unborn humans legally murdered in the womb every day. That's where it all starts. Abortion is the holocaust of today.
This is for me the most powerful documentary I have seen to date on the Warsaw ghetto. Your resarchers have done an incredible job of finding original film. The little boys smuggling goods into the ghetto and then been beaten. They ran away as if they were not 41:44 affected. This video with the empty tram running through the street made a visceral impact on me as well as much of the video. 😢 Such a horrific tragedy. Truly grateful for your work as ever, although painful to watch. My ❤goes out to the survivors and the Polish people.
As always you don’t disappoint DW. I never knew Warsaw suffered so much during the Nazi regime - The ghetto and what the Nazi’s really planned for the disappearance Warsaw. Insightful and heart breaking. Thank you for posting DW.
This is one of the best documentaries I've watched on the Warsaw Ghetto. It places the ghetto in perspective to the rest of Warsaw allowing the viewer to see the scale and geography of the city districts and the ghetto. The % of Jewish people who comprised the population of the city is also emphasised. This information is missing from every other documentary on this subject. I have a far greater understanding of the subject as a result of watching this very moving and impactful film. Thank you
Agreed. This really opened my eyes to other things as well. I got a very clear sense of what the Warsaw Ghetto actually was, how it became what it was, and how it was maintained and then destroyed. I never heard or considered what the logistics of such an endeavor would involve … never considered that it involved everyone who wasn’t German. I was not aware of the plan to “erase” Warsaw and all non-German people from Poland, In fact to erase Poland itself. No doubt that was the plan all across Europe. No more Europe! Only Germany? The enormity of it … I come to the conclusion that the word Holocaust has not really been seen fully … at least in my education (born USA 1948), we were never given the depth of knowledge to really even begin to grasp the multi-dimensionality or depth of human depravity that was visited upon these people. Thank you for airing it.
@@maryhjort7318 There is still so much to learn about this horrific period in world history- tragically there are similar events occurring in our world today that news media "conveniently" ignore. Every time I think things are hard in my life whether it was in basic training in the military or whatever I got through it by imagining the people that survived this if they can survive the ones that did I can survive anything that's ever been in front of me God bless all those that suffered I can't even fathom such horrific inhumanities!
Yes!! I have been going through hardships and travails, and watching something like this makes me realize what true suffering was....it was so horrible, but those street markers...to think it was only 3 years, 900 days...m😭
I will have to comeback to this video on some later day to watch it to the end. It's unbearable experience , because I have passed through the war of Independence of Bangladesh. All these description and images bring back my suppressed trauma. Let peace be on everybody!
That must be one of the most heart wrenching stories of dispair and misery turned to salvation and then to even worse dispair and misery in human history. It still breaks my heart.
I visited Warsaw just before the Wuhan Virus kicked in, I noted it was all post war, buildings even the beautiful old town was rebuilt albeit sensibly as it originally was. @homelessandstarving What on earth do you mean by "a professed Christian"? I've read books and watched documentaries about Nazi Germany, I've read biographies about Hitler, and about the early movement that became the Nazi's, but never have I ever seen anything describing Hitler as a "professed Christian". He had during WW1, on the battlefield, however, something that he described as a mystical experience about Odin. The "Thule Society" cult that was the beginning backbone of those that made Hitler their figure head, had a fascination with Paganism as well, and was directly linked to German Spiritism and French Occultism (and of course anti-semittism). Other then this, Nazism was cold, pseudo-scientific Social Darwinism at it's most extreme and horrifying. There seemed to be clear plans for removing the power of Christendom in Germany, once the "problem" with Communism, Jews and Slavs was dealt with. Wehrmacht had the traditional motto of "Got mit uns" (God with us), but the SS discarded this. However it's a silly question to begin with, and if anyone claim to be a Christian and do evil acts, in clear opposition to the gospel, this don't reflect whom or what God is or do. It's written in the bible that God's ways and thoughts are not like any human. The Problem of Evil, that you seem to struggle to want to express as such, don't prove, nor disprove God, but have been used as an argument for atheism since the French "Enlightenment" philosophers.
@@elvenkind6072 - Google Hitler's quotes. He said Nazism was a Christian movement. In Mein Kampf, he is constantly talking about being Christian and Jesus. The whole reason given for being against the Jews was about Jesus and them being the enemy of Christianity. He said this in every speech also. Christians have of course tried to wipe this out and claim he was a pagan. This may be true but publicly he was a Christian, he made deal with the Church and of course, those Germans carrying out the holocaust were Christians. The holocaust was a Christian crime against humanity. There is no getting away from that. Without the Christian religion, there would be no reason to kill the Jews.

I appreciate this film of the way the Jewish people were forced to live. When I was a teenager, I met people who had been in concentration camps. I shall always remember a man who worked in the rehab hospital building where my mother was an executive secretary. He was a bit slow, living on hospital property and working as a custodian. This poor man lost his whole family to the gas chamber. My neighbour was in the Hitler Youth Movement. The young people were indoctrinated against Jewish people. I did a report for school of the Hitler Youth and Jewish people as well. I still wonder if the young people knew just how the Jews were made to suffer and if the would care.
Do not let them die in vain. They must be remembered. The past shapes the future and we need to remember so this atrocity never happens again. The empty tram; so evocative, painful and so powerful. It’s not just our soldiers dying in wars. It’s innocent people too. Thank you for sharing this story.
The antisemitism today shows that this was forgotten. Look at all the fake comparisons of Israel and Germany here. Antisemitism evolves but doesn't disappear.
It is happening. It was in Bosnia, camps everywhere. Around 52. Croatian, Serbian , Muslims. Palestine is half camp . They don't have much freedom. And what now ????
It was hard to watch this. 😢 I cried almost the whole time. I can't help but wonder if the images captured, include any of my family member's. I've been told my whole life that my family was taken captive in Poland. I'm on a mission to find out the truth, to figure out my family tree, to figure out why my family tree is filled with trauma and strife. I need to know, I need answers for my own life so I can understand better. All of the adoptions.... All of the heart break. I'm on a mission to try to heal my family. It is so hard not knowing where to start, who to talk to to help with direction. So many times I've questioned whether or not I'm strong enough, its things like this documentary, its things like seeing my mother cry that remind me, oh I'm more than strong enough. Thank you for putting this out. Maybe some day my questions will be answered, maybe some day I'll know whether or not any of these images contain family members of mine by blood, if not, I see all of them as family even so. Just knowing that my own family members endured such evil along with their neighbors, makes their neighbors my family too. I have so many questions. Thank you again for this documentary.

Except it has happened in other countries and is happening in China right now
From the perspective of the physical Warsaw (versus the people, its history and soul), from this documentary I see a city bathed in trees and soviet structures.
I will be in Warsaw Oct 5 2021. I have watched holocaust history for many years. Excited but sad to visit. Love from the USA, Florida

And yet now 2022 we have horrible things happening in Ukraine 🇺🇦. May we all remember Hitlers terrible reign! Never again....
Ty for this insight. I have studied the Holocaust, but didn't know about rebuilding on top of the rubble.

Thank you for this documentary. I have been living in Warsaw for the last 8 years and I think it is the best city in the world. I was in Warsaw in 1973 and saw the old city being rebuilt, and noticed the contrast between the beautiful, old Polish architecture and the stark, concrete blocks of the Stalinist buildings.

Greetings from Poland.

@sunny It's not an act of censoring. They do it out of respect.
Over 500000 Soviet soldiers gave their lives to drive nazi out of Poland in the winter of 1945! It is a historical fact.

Unfortunately the world has leant nothing from this atrocity....

Thank you
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!
Yet the same thing is happning in Palestine.. yeah thats sick
I must agree that when ever I meet American's I'm amazed at just how little they seem to know about world history (and geography). Most that they do know seems to be a simplified version and seen through American "patriotic" propaganda such as "America won the Second World War- with zero knowledge of the massive contribution and sacrifice of over 20 million Russian troops and civilians- this was deliberately overlooked during the Cold War and of course has persisted.

The person who filmed at that time shouldn't be called: amateur.
That just means he didn't get paid for taking those videos.

Amateur comes from amator in Latin - the one who loves. He knew why he was filming.
@@NenadMaljkovic I know the meaning of: amateur. What I am trying to say is: at that time there was no Uni to prepare filmmakers and those images are so unique. Without this "amateur" the professional guys will have nothing to show now. Even if the images are shaky, I think this person can be called anything, but not an amateur.
@@ValyArdeleanu Yes, if you (frequently) get paid for filming, you are professional, just like a professional football player is someone who makes an income kicking against a ball.
