I had the pleasure of meeting the Doctor at an MMTP where I was counselor. An amazing thrill to meet a New Orleans legend!
I discovered Dr John after I visited New Orleans, and I thought he was a pretty good pianist. I was very wrong. He is a LEGEND!
Oh baby! No one can replace the sweet Dr. John. Always joyous. Sweet, sweet voice. I loved him. Unforgettable. So much fun! Talent galore. RIP!
Dr. John even WALKED like he was in a Mardi Gras parade. RIP.
He talks exactly how he sings, one of the greats
I swear, he could sing those lyrics on the beat, behind the beat, ahead of the beat or 3 weeks after the song had ended and they would still be buttery! Glad I got to see him perform live.
No one was like Dr. John. I am privileged to have known him.
Yes, one of a kind - a privilege just to hear him play!!
Wow did you .. heavy x
Such an amazing performance and it does my heart good to watch Robbie Robertson joyfully sing,"If I don't do i t I know somebody else will."
when he says " night" I go wild!!!!!!!! The way he sings it makes me so happy!!!!
he had the Band smiling and the Band hardly EVER smiled
Amazing!
What a vocal! What a piano!
My favourite version of this track This live version is so good. Better than the studio/album version.
I think this is my favorite of the entire show. 💫💥
this and the Staples on the Weight
so beloved~!
I recently finished the Levon Helm biography and he said it ironic Dr. Jon chose this song because he was actually becoming involved with Levons then wife Libby due to them going through problems. A year later or so Dr Jon and Libby married I believe or at least became a couple. Levon held no grudge or ill feelings and gave them his blessing.
Still love this song. Speaks to me and a few situations in life that were similar. One I wish I could take back and one that brought me and my fiance together.
Sorry but if I don't do it, somebody else will.
Love that piano …..
A splendid musical moment. Joyful.
What a performer a genius.....we have lost so many great musicians
He is not lost a single bit as long as you listen to his music.
I was 20 when this was filmed, to all the young folk out there ,,,, well I can’t explain the seventies,,, but if you were there,,, no explanation needed
I'm1978 and I get told all the time. I grew up in the wrong decade as by the time I was making my own choices, it was the 90s, and music aint been anywere near as kl ,since the 70s in my humble opinion
You broke my heart the night you passed. The night tripper. My Best friend Jim.
Now that was some finish.
Such a night. The night Big Mac. The night tripper, the High Priest of blues, the Doctor John passes away... wfw when is the March Rest In Peace
R.i.p.
Always a Class Act!
I hope you are Resting in Peace and Love Forever Dr. John!
✌❤🎹🎶👍😘🙏
Man, that voice is just indescribably good for this music. What a legendary, once-every-generation musician he is. He doesn't get the respect that he really deserves, in my opinion. Like, it is insane that I had never even heard of this master NOLA musician, Dr. John, until years and years later, and I actually do know a helluva lot of music from that era. I'm a younger fella (23), and I am just so glad to have discovered this amazing work by an amazing musician. Truly in a class of his own.

He's my generation and everything you say is spot on. I love that you like him! One in a million and one of the greatest bands ever backing him up..
@@CandiceADonofrio not just any band here either, we're talking about THE Band lol
Amen 😌
You said it right and I am nobody but was privileged to have known him, seen him. He was a party waiting to happen. I am happy that his music remains forever and he is finally getting the recognition for what he deserves
Pure magic and joy. Sadly we’re moving further and further away from where this came from. Hopefully it will cycle around again.
I hope you're right John, a lot of rubbish on the air-waves these days
@@BluesPianoSheets I hoping but in so many ways we are so far away from this. The bluegrass revival gives me hope for other roots genres. There’s nothing like it and nothing better. It transcends and brings joy and communion and that’s more of what we desperately need.
more people need to play the piano - that's the key
RIP Dr John! such a Night!
His Gumbo Album is Quintessential New Orleans. I know the Drummer on it Freddie Staehle . He told me Jerry Wexler heard them live and went Nuts trying to get a record done.
The rest is history.
Rest in peace, you sweet man. ❤️🎶
Here you are..
RIP Good Doctor ❤ 🙏
RIP Dr. John.
New Orleanians don’t “rest in peace”, they rest in song
RIP a true musical legend. 😔
RIP????? He is alive among all of us every day we listen to this
@@wysiwyg2489 Yeah man! You said it!
@@emanueltadeuborges1628 Say thankfullness to the band and all the fellas!
Der einzige Blues, den ich liebe. Als der Film 1978 in die DDR-Kinos kam, da steunten alle über den Dr. John. Nun ist er in der ganzen Welt bekannt. und unsterblich.
Every night.
Great.
So damn good!!!
Dr.John最高❗️
One of a kind
Notice how he walked past Robbie to shake Levon’s hand. 🙀🙀
So good...
I could easily visualize Sweet Emma at Preservation Hall playing piano in this style with her one good hand.
♡♡♡♡
Sadly for the film (which I love btw) his performance is edited and there is a cut just before the end. A great performance, and a great film, of a great band.
🙂❤🙏
Can not get enough of this! What does Dr. John say to the Band at the beginning?
"Thankfulness to The Band and all the fellas."
ah 'thankfulness'..thanks that was driving me crazy! LOL
@@mdoreenbarrett8728
Is that a gris-gris around his neck (below his pink bowtie)?
Dr John and Dusty Rhodes were related
Bob Dylan on the last dance
@@ChrisHenry-bj2oi please say that’s a joke
死んじゃったわ
He sounds like Randy Newman.
beaufortluvr No, Randy sounds like The Dr!
Nobody sounds quite like Dr. John. A classic. 👍😎🎹🇳🇿
No-one sounds like the Dr - and certainly not Randy Newman...
I'd rather say that Dr John and Leon Russell are abt the same cut.
