      6'3" 200 - he would anticipate what I would do, because his brain has seen 1000s of guys with 10x my athleticism try millions of moves, and he would instantly adjust, because he is an elite athlete, and counter me 10/10 times. 100 is a weird number, because in theory, I could iterate, but in practice, I'd be exhausted, and he wouldn't, so if I didn't tackle him in my first 10 attempts, no way I'm getting him down in my next 90 tries, when I'm winded and he's just warming up.
      My best chance would be around reps 90-100, when I'm exhausted, and he's bored. Maybe, just maybe, I could find a little adrenaline, and take advantage of he slips a little or telegraphs his plan, because he doesn't care anymore. But he probably recovers and stiff-arms me into the ground, because he's Derrick Henry, and I'm just a dude who hasn't tackled anyone in like 20 years.

      Seriously. When I was in high school I was 6'2 205 lbs and very athletic and I played against Reggie Bush. I was a DE and LB and when I tackled him there was a toll to pay on your body. I couldn't imagine trying to tackle a man like Henry. He's huge and very strong. Like.. were fairly large guys and Henry makes us look like kids. And he's a beast. Also, I think people who never played football don't really understand how powerful these NFL guys are. It's not just that Derrick Henry is almost 250 lbs. It's also that he's moving that weight roughly 4.5 seconds over 40 yards. It's the speed plus the size that equates to incredible power. The guy is a freight/bullet train.

      My freshman year I practiced against a guy who played DL at San Jose state and we tried squaring up.... Bad idea. Then we tried going low on him in practice and you are exactly right. When his knees came up and hit you it felt like being in a car wreck. Then we started diving at ankles. Much safer and we figured out he went down IF he tripped on us. I think your odds go up with more reps. In ten tries the average person has just about not shot, but 100 times? He might cheat a rep, trip up, or just be tired and fall over a few times. He’s still a human being, a hundred reps of that drill is insane. So if you can just stand up 100 times, you’ll get one or two freebies.

    • @mr.doctorcaptain1124
      @mr.doctorcaptain1124 Рік тому

      I think it depends what the goal is. If it’s traditional Oklahoma drill, where Henry wins by crossing the line at all, I think your average person fails at getting him even once. But if we modify it to he has to cross the line standing, then I think your average athletic person can stop him 1/20 attempts (5/100) by diving at his ankles and tripping him up.
      The big thing about this that makes it possible is that injuries are turned off, so you’re really just trying to turn your body into a tripping missile, and on a narrow lane, you’re gonna succeed at that trip on occasion.

    I think alot of people forget that players like Derrick Henry are a special kind of genetic freak of a human being. I'm 5'10 250lbs athletic and I might get him once if im lucky. I work in Nashville and I've seen him and he's a real freak athlete. Makes grown men look like kids.

      D Henry stiffed armed grown, built, fast, athletic professional athletes into the ground -- INTO the ground -- and these men's sole purpose is to lay the hurtin' on WRs and RBs.
      At 5'7 150lbs, I have ZERO chance of taking down D Henry. ZERO. What's less than zero? Yeah, that's me.

    So I played CB in college, 185 lbs, 6'0 tall then, fit and lean and fast. I have seen Derek in person just 2 months ago. Nope, not happening 5/100 times for an average non-football playing guy. The man is bigger than you think he is, he just looks like a really tall, quick and fast body builder. Guaranteed money normal guy is gonna get hurt badly 1 vs 1 Derek Henry coming at you trying to get by you.
    Just to put this in perspective, in college in 1993 we played a game vs Georgia. They had a pretty decent RB named Terrel Davis, maybe you heard of him? The man was only about 5'11" 220 lbs-ish. I got him in a hole 1v1 on a run... that man ran me over like I wasn't even there, and I wasn't a terrible player lol. It was worse than Deon Sanders vs Bo Jackson in college for real. I believe Derek Henry is on another level than TD was, so nope absolutely not happening.

    As a 160 pound ex-Rugby player I can say that technique in tackling is important. Take Jonah Lomu for example, he played against smaller guys his entire career and he was tackled plenty of times by smaller guys. Also seen people get run over and even get out of the way so it's courage and technique. One on one is tough, if not impossible but in a game, in the trenches you don't care how big they are. You also rarely tackle alone in a Rugby match, same in NFL, the second guy is never far away.

      @@AD-df5tm For an average person you're right, but technique is still important. Lomu was 120KG (265lbs) and was also one of the fastest players in the world. Many many times he ran people over, but there's also plenty of times he got tackled by a scrum half (smallest position on the pitch). Peter Stringer got him a few times and that guy was 75KG (165lbs) max. There's videos of this on YT. If you aren't trying to knock the other guy backwards then weight matters a lot less.

    • @JoeHardacre
      @JoeHardacre 11 місяців тому +2

      @@thomasbrown8462 I dont think most NFL fans will ever give rugby players their fair due but Lomu really was a different animal. He ran the 100 in 11 seconds flat - which is faster than Henry. So he's an inch taller, 20 lbs heavier AND faster.

    • @weaselwag
      @weaselwag 11 місяців тому

      @@JoeHardacre its apples to oranges. lomu was a fucking beast. and tackling a rugby player that size in open field is tough too. but in rugby you are built for endurance rather than burst. nfl players are about burst size/speed/athleticism. its just a totally different beast. if henry was a rugby player he'd be bigger than jonah, who was bigger than most forwards, and faster than jonah, who was faster than all wings, and more agile than anything theyd ever seen. but he couldnt just run like that for 60 minutes (let alone 80). in rugby also you almost never tackle solo, you almost always have help. there's no equiv to an oklahoma. in an oklahoma drill there isnt a rugby player out there who would take henry more than 10 times out of 100 in an oklahoma drill. its just totally different size/skill sets. like PSDT/Cane/Savea/Etzibeth etc? they arent doing it. they either arent nearly big enough, arent nearly fast enough, or neither
