My current net expenditures hover somewhere between 36-42k a year range, and that's with a mortgage and a car payment. I could sell the car and pay off the mortgage, eliminating it entirely. That would drop me down to around 450k with only a yearly expenditure in the realm of 25k net. 450k/25k is about 18 years, and that's without even counting the money you'd make off the 450k, which would be approximately ~15-20k annually tapering off slowly as you drew it down. There's a reason for the saying "it takes money to make money". Once get you up into the ~1.5-2m range the average American family could literally live indefinitely without working on compound interest alone. I'd recommend you take a finance class if this wasn't clearly obvious to you.
The year those kicks came out I was working at neimans and a guy walked through the store and I stopped and asked him all about them and told me the story about them. He ended up donating a ton of money to MJF’s charity and bought 2 pairs. One to keep and one to wear. To this day they are the coolest pair I’ve ever seen!

Maybe I’m being too optimistic, but you would think with young guys coming into the league receiving exorbitant amounts of money for the first time in their lives, the NFL would have some sort of mandatory seminar players would attend that teaches you how to use your money wisely. It could include investment advice, management strategies, and testimonials from seasoned players sharing the financial mistakes they made with their money their first few years in the NFL (similar to what Kelce is doing here).

I don't understand why these pro sports leagues don't have financial managers for 'newer' players. Something like requiring them to take a few hours of classes each week to protect them and their future. Giving a kid hundreds of thousands of dollars at once is a sure fire way for them to spiral out of control. Maybe ask them to take a portion of their earnings for rent food etc and the other put in a 'safer' account. I'm sure there are better ways to do this that benefits the league and the players.
they do have these classes. 99 percent of guys tune them out. I've always been good with money even at a young age. But most people, even older adults in this country are horrendous with money. Now you give piles to naive 20 year olds who think they know everything and that the gravy train will never end...

Even with tiny poohole bar pricing, let's get crazy and call it happy hour, $2.99 shots of Black Velvet from 3-6pm, that's 15x3=$45. So you spent $10 to make $45 at the very least. And it doesn't level down the higher you go up in price. I think standard practice is even though there are 22 shots in a liter, a shot will cost about 15%-20% of the bottle.

I'm not asking for any sympathy obviously but sometimes people just don't know how to budget and if they don't get money regularly they'll over spend what they have thinking it won't run out. I remember checking my budget and somehow I spent $30,000 in 6 weeks and had nothing to show for it.
But you aren't automatically rich. I make well above 500k a year and actually its not life changing money even then. What you have to do is put back to back years of that salary to accumulate some real wealth.
Understand that one season doesn't make you automatically rich. Understand that a football career is shorter than most other careers. My point is that the majority of people out there make under 100K and some 30-40K. Thus, you would be hard pressed to find much sympathy from those who live paycheck to paycheck.
