GarciaLive Volume 19: October 31st, 1992 Oakland Coliseum Arena showcases Garcia’s return to the stage with the Jerry Garcia Band following a second major health crisis. The previously unreleased complete performance is mastered from John Cutler’s original soundboard recordings.
In the summer of ’92, Garcia once again found himself in a perilous position as his health deteriorated so significantly he ultimately collapsed. His reemergence here on Halloween three months later, slimmed down and in great spirits, was a real sight for sore eyes for the 17,000 in attendance at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. The setlist for the evening suggests the significance wasn’t lost on Garcia. Though hardly an uncommon opener, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” hints at Garcia’s gratitude for the outpouring of affection he received; while a poignant take on “The Maker” spins a tale of a “body bent and broken.” Thankfully this evening has more to it than just sentimentality - there are some exceptionally fine performances here too including a second set that’s among the decade’s best. This Halloween ’92 performance includes two performances cherry-picked for previously released compilations: “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox” from Shining Star and “Tangled Up in Blue” from Garcia Plays Dylan. The second set opening “Shining Star” is positively stunning with its lush harmonies and solos illustrating why Melvin Seals dubbed the group “the magic band.” Elsewhere, rollicking versions of “Lay Down Sally,” “You Never Can Tell [C’est Le Vie],” and the show closing “Werewolves of London” gave the fans plenty of opportunity to shake their bones.
I bought the last ticket to this show. As I was on the phone with the Ticketmaster guy, he said your lucky you only wanted 1 ticket because it's now sold out you got the last one. One of the best JGB shows. The vibe of the fat man returns was astronomical
I miss jetry band shows. no better way to spend a a rainy Wednesday night at a small music hall. magic
.
When you get it..know that you were loved.
I have heard many versions of this amazing song. I so love the guitar solo that sets it above the rest. Also I believe Jerry lived this song in some respects. So his vocals are so honest and emotional.
Halloween 86 was epic! Kaiser Aud with Kingfish playing after Jerry. His first big post coma show after three at the Stone. If 92 qualifies as a volume set than 86 should not be denied! 🎸🐯🥰
It's worth buying for sure
Best live Jerry I ever saw, in any iteration, bar none. I’ve been waiting a long time for this official release even tho there are good copies out there.
There's a SBD that circulates but it sounds strange, in a not so good way. This is quite an upgrade.
The Rodney King riot show @ the Warfield would be a winner.】
I've been begging for Ventura 1992 forever now too, lol.
The night before his 50th birthday show at Irvine.
an upgrade came out for this show in the last couple years
This is simply Beautiful
@@lpndeadhead1961 soul and his pain and grief perhaps made him who he was but I tend to over think everything so just a little bit closer look into the song
Love it
@@numbernine2207 I had all my shows on my computer and my wife wiped it clean and I lost all these songs
I'd love to trade I need to get something going on with my tapes DVDs and CDs all disaray
is this a message of faith hope and love…
it sure sounds like it.
😎
So good. One of the best versions of all time!!!
meh, not even in the top 5. 1993 where Jerry started really extending the jam is where it's at.
@@marshmcleod3915 I saw every 93 Warfield & I agree. Jerry was doing some serious experimentation & improvisation. Endless tone variations. However! 1989 & 1990 were dynamite. SDSU Open Air Amp was my first JGB and that Cats>Mission opener was stellar. Wiltern 1990 was my 2nd JGB & first Rueben. There's a board that was patched out of the bathroom speaker feed that sounds decent. Eel & Squaw 1991 are definitely top 10 for me. Best venues EVER!!!!
Beautiful 💎 big fire jam
I’ve always loved this show-thanks for listen. I’ll be adding this to all 18 other volumes in my collection. So good!!’🌹💀❤️🌹💀❤️
Saw him 1981 at the PALLADIUM original THE ACADEMY OF MUSIC he had a magic act open up good the only time I saw him by himself. That was good place to see a show .wish I could go back to the 20th century people seem to be nicer back then .
Danks.
Eagerly awaiting!
Amen! 💜
I had a blast at this one. The board that circulates sounds funky too. It made up for the 3rd canceled Field Trip shows in Venetta, Oregon.
Indeed
This song we found on the movie credits I can't remember but we taped it and we were like wow that was something else all together and I'm very happy to see it's released but with all the releases in it's hard to keep up with
But it's a great tune
Used to play poker and my Name
Was The Maker on pogo years ago
i feel that i've known jerry my whole life and plenty before this one ... nfa
Interesting...didn't know JGB ever played the Coliseum Arena. It's a lot bigger than their typical venues.
It was his first live performance since his health scare in Summer of 1992, which forced the Grateful Dead to cancel 20+ shows, so this was a pretty special night, one I still remember fondly...

Jerry was playing many hockey arenas and full size amphitheaters by 89. He sold out all the northeast arenas like MSG, Nassau Coliseum, Spectrum, Byrne, and Boston Garden. He played Shoreline and Irvine in California. Also the Greek!
The days of college auditoriums, civic centers and roller rinks were over.
sweeeeeeeeet stuff
🙏

You people are ignoring a huge section of jerrys work by focusing on the same eras over and over.
What do you have against the early eighties or the acoustic show s with khan.
You released two from the same week? And no others?
