It's not like fetch quests or grind are bad per se but if you are making game with narrative, voice acting, story, just make a fucking theme park, not a grinder. Why mix it up? Also, if you want to keep immersion, don't make NPC say this shit in way it was said. Just tell players what you need or what you need it for. Let them look for it or figure it out. But that also would require design to worked around it.

It's like being on It's a Small World, only to get 3/4ths of the way through the ride and then have everything burst into flames all of a sudden, AKA 10 times more entertaining than if it just worked right.
Every mmo has the incredible range to go from battling an evil sorcerer that will end the world and immediately after tell the player to pick flowers. Incredible story dynamic and range of gameplay can't be found in games like elders ring

0:41 this will always be annoying to me. Archers weren’t ordered to “fire” it was “loose”. Because you let the arrows loose. Fire became a thing when guns and cannons were introduced because you used fire. This isn’t complicated, yet games, shows, and movies just can’t seem to grasp it.
I also like that each archer wears full plate and has a bathtub full of burning stuff next to them to light their cinematic fire arrows. You couldn't have used just a smoldering wick or a few coals, no, gotta be a full tub at least.

I think the thing that makes the Tense Battle Against The Lich King the funniest is that, every time he hits you by whipping around a sword the length of your body and slamming it directly into your head, which does not snap back the amount you'd get from being hit by an I-beam but still clearly shuffles the vertebrae with each strike... it's accompanied by a very underwhelming and muted "thwonk" sound. When you start hitting back, it makes the Cool Swordplay Sounds. But as long as you're just standing there getting whaled on like someone's trying to hit a golf ball glued to the tee, it's just *whump, thwack, thump, bonk.* I know this game exists because of a startling lack of awareness of much of anything by the publisher. But I really gotta hope that the people who actually worked on it took any opportunity they could to take the piss. I hope that deciding that a towering death knight whapping the shit out of you with 800 pounds of iron would make, basically, a soft "pap" sound, was the highlight of some coder's week. Also, as someone who is preset to always like big flying whales, the fact that the industry has figured out my weak point really bothers me. Everything that came before it and I still also went "wooooh the whaaaale." Cheap trick, Fivespoken.

*overflowing players into identical new maps during an influx to reduce lag has been an industry staple for 10 years now at least, if the game is keeping people in one map despite lag it’s a bad mmo

0:41 this will always be annoying to me. Archers weren’t ordered to “fire” it was “loose”. Because you let the arrows loose. Fire became a thing when guns and cannons were introduced because you used fire.
This isn’t complicated, yet games, shows, and movies just can’t seem to grasp it.
I also like that each archer wears full plate and has a bathtub full of burning stuff next to them to light their cinematic fire arrows. You couldn't have used just a smoldering wick or a few coals, no, gotta be a full tub at least.

@@TriHard7 RuneScape has slayer which is the equivalent to the "go kill X amount of people" - I've played this to lvl 25 and I'd say the quests have been more interesting than the newest wow expansion. I also am enjoying lots of the QoL stuff they've brought in from a bunch of games.. you need X reagent to make that sword? Not only does it tell you where to get it, it will tag the mobs for you. You can Back FFS, like in league of legends lol
Don’t know how Korean games can have so many good ideas and beautiful characters/worlds, and yet are such soulless products at the same time.

I think the thing that makes the Tense Battle Against The Lich King the funniest is that, every time he hits you by whipping around a sword the length of your body and slamming it directly into your head, which does not snap back the amount you'd get from being hit by an I-beam but still clearly shuffles the vertebrae with each strike... it's accompanied by a very underwhelming and muted "thwonk" sound. When you start hitting back, it makes the Cool Swordplay Sounds. But as long as you're just standing there getting whaled on like someone's trying to hit a golf ball glued to the tee, it's just *whump, thwack, thump, bonk.*
I know this game exists because of a startling lack of awareness of much of anything by the publisher. But I really gotta hope that the people who actually worked on it took any opportunity they could to take the piss. I hope that deciding that a towering death knight whapping the shit out of you with 800 pounds of iron would make, basically, a soft "pap" sound, was the highlight of some coder's week.
Also, as someone who is preset to always like big flying whales, the fact that the industry has figured out my weak point really bothers me. Everything that came before it and I still also went "wooooh the whaaaale." Cheap trick, Fivespoken.
RIGHT? They somehow made a flying whale not feel special. Subnautica's reefbacks or those space whales from Treasure Planet made every hair on my body tingle. This thing made me actually feel emptiness.

@kalimaude3532 you can, there's mining nodes and a side quests tied to the whales back even some endgame resources im.pretty sure. It's funny cuz the game will tell you when the whale is arriving so like 50 people will line up at the top of this one tower to land on it
