I prefer the leafy back lanes that this bike is ideal for.
I like it. Colours are good and I'm all for softer tunes. For a touring style motorcycle a softer tune will equal more relaxed riding. On March 13, 2021, I ordered the Tiger 850 sports version at the Beijing dealer Dade Liangju Kaixuan store, the color is red, and I paid a deposit. The salesperson Ms. Liu and the grumpy Mr. Wang agreed to arrive in two and a half months. Until the end of June, during the period, Ms. Liu exaggerated the process, misled the buyer, bought the car process, lacked product knowledge, and spoke inconsistently. Based on the feedback from some domestic car owners on the vehicle's oil leakage, I asked Miss Liu if she could do a detailed test. She replied that DPI testing can improve quality. After that, Ms. Liu suddenly proposed to test the car on the road. Here, she told me that this was a testing process and misled me. After the test, she asked a third person to conduct a road test on my car. I can accept the normal DPI test. However, these contents were misunderstood by the store manager, after-sales service, and general manager that I refused to test the car. At the beginning of July, I asked the salesperson Ms. Liu again, and their promise was not fulfilled, and then Ms. Liu suddenly notified me that I had to pay tariffs. At this point, I have lost my trust in Beijing dealers. I now seriously complain to the dealers in Beijing, including all sales, after-sales managers and general managers. They promised that the car will arrive in two and a half months, but the car did not arrive until the end of June. The salesman tried to make trouble and asked me to return the goods. After that, the general manager Ms. Jin actually denied that my car had arrived in Beijing. Their statements are inconsistent. I seriously suspect that they sold my car to other people at a high price for personal gain. Said it was for my sake, malicious slander, and very poor service attitude. As a customer, I was very angry. The Shanghai distributor told me that after the price increase at the end of June, due to the shortage of chips, several models such as the Tiger 850 Sport will not arrive until 2022. However, Jinan dealers have already delivered five Tiger 850 Sport in early July. The situation of Jinan dealers is seriously inconsistent with what the Beijing dealers said. In addition, the general dealer in Shanghai, China was unable to provide service specifications to regional dealers, which resulted in me being unable to get my motorcycle. I asked the British headquarters to perform the contract and return my car. In response to the problems and loopholes reflected above, it is hoped that the UK headquarters can thoroughly investigate and prevent commercial fraud.
You need to watch the actual video, its a 900 engine with the new firing order, just de-tuned, the "8502 name is on par with BMW's 700 (which is an 800), don't ask me why they want to down play the size, I guess to make you think its worth paying more for the 900
I’m sorry but for a road tiger (sport tour) go older tiger 1050. Long time tiger owner by the way. This is a leftover parts project or a EU licensing model.
Man! I can't help feeling disappointed. I thought this was a new bike, but sounds like its just a 900 with less power. The styling looks the same too... I was hoping that this would be an update to the big tiger sport (triumph's s1000xr equivilent). I really wonder what cistomers requested this. I guess he does keep referring to accessible... Hmm.
Wouldn’t pick this over my F900XR and I’m sure my mate wouldn’t swap his Tracer 900GT for it either... What is the point of this bike? Call it sport, but don’t fit 17” wheels... Triumph seem to be losing their way!
Reading the comments it seems like this wont be a homerun...They make an 800, than make a 900, then a 850? They probably should have made a much more road focused and affordable version with the 765. This one kind of falls in a category that nobody was really asking for.
Before you hang me I love the 900 Tiger, and I say that as an ex as 800 Tiger xcx owner , I especially like the 900 rally-pro as it answers all the niggles I had with the 800 and some, Better suspension, power and kit. BUT, why does this 850 “sport”, yet slower, oh the irony, even exist. I’m sure that on normal roads the 850 sport and 900 GT will feel pretty similar, and it looks similar too, apart from the unfinished paint job. (Come on Karl, think of a quirky paint scheme that’ll fool the empire ) So what’s the point in the 850 sport, clearly there are political reasons, maybe different rules and regs( the old euro 850cc/85bhp trend) however, if the 900 gt simply had less gizmos and a slightly lower price point I’m sure sales would fly, ... Sadly I can only hear, Hi mate ”oh you bought the cheap one” ... and who wants the cheap one... ? Riders buy and ride bikes to show off a bit, it’s about pride of ownership.... we all want to be the rebellious biker deep down, even the accountants.... so I’m left flummoxed by this bike, not that it’s a bad bike but it’s so close to the Tiger 900 gt, which, incidentally, with a well worked pcp deal will not be that much more to buy either.... my Tiger 900 reviews @threesixmoto Cheers Ride safe...
Quickly clicked on this. Just sold my Speed Triple as it wasn't fun on the road anymore. I was hoping for an updated, smaller engined 1050 Tiger Sport or at least a Tiger on 17s. This looks cack.
I don't think that is more manageable. It's a shame that we'll lose the 900. The 850 can be a great bike, but I don't like the split colour system. Cheers
Rather than just cutting the power through the ECU, how about revising the intake and exhaust for low-down torque and adding some flywheel weight for easier clutch starts, smoother power and better traction? Then the bike would truly match the rhetoric. And I never understood the high tail design. It makes it harder to swing a leg over, raises the height of the seat and luggage, and makes it impossible to change your seating position on those long rides. This bike has no redeeming features even for a beginner, and looks like an opportunity lost.
If triumph were McDonald's : so for all of you that love double cheeseburgers, but find them a bit hard to manage, we've taken one of the burgers out, and called it the Double cheeseburger special.
7:00 " A progressive reduction in power and torque". Sorry I don't want a bike that is restricted for no reason I can see. pretty sure next year it will be Full Power.
Yeah quite stupid. The ECU just progressively closes the throttle body the higher the rpm. Absolutely stupid. If I wanted less power I just wouldn't twist the throttle as far smh
@@Blockbuster2033 I have been told the reason it has less power is that to be able to be restricted to A2 licence holders the limit is a max of 50% so they had to make full power less.

Surely triumph have a 660 adventure bike up their sleeves? Or are they going to miss a trick here?🙄. Come on, no frills to beat Yamaha's T7 at least on price. Not that I will be swapping my T7 any time soon 👍
Apparently a bit cheaper than the 900 and then you need to add heated grips, which IMO should be standard on every bike in the UK and Europe. Oh and then don’t forget the quick shifter and blipper. Not quite so sure now about the value aspect.
This is utter bollocks. Even Miles Perkins doesn't sound convinced about his own product. It's just a detuned variant of a bike they never had any orders for wearing a different coloured frock. It's not a new for 2021 model Triumph's strap line always used to be 'Go Your Own Way' but that should now be changed to 'Following BMW' If Triumph want to make in roads in to BMW's market then a good place to start would be by supplying the bikes with a 3 year manufacturers warranty
I don't understand this bike... Put a 500cc engine in it with 47 bhp, scratch the Sport tag from the name, cut down 2500 from the price tag and it will have a purpose...
Hey triumph, better start reading some of the comments that I just read in this forum. You seem to be following Harley Davidson's path. I hate to see another manufacturer become disconnected to their core customers.
For us in India, what’s accessible is a bike that costs less then $10K.. This is still going to cost more than $15K, so it’s far from being accessible!

Interesting bike; looks like it could sell. However, from my point of view, aside from many new bikes being presented as an excuse to sell accessories, the weak link in the production/distribution chain has little to do with Triumph products. What impedes an actual purchase is access to a reliable Triumph dealership. If there was a way to effectively cut out the useless glass boutique’s take of the cut and buy one configured direct from factory, I’d consider ordering a new bike. Personally, I’ve bought four new motorcycles in the last ten years and I just can’t bring myself to run that gauntlet again . . .

Nice looking bike....glad you asked to fire the bike so we can hear what it sounds like.
I think it is an old 800 engine with new 900 body
You need to watch the actual video, its a 900 engine with the new firing order, just de-tuned, the "8502 name is on par with BMW's 700 (which is an 800), don't ask me why they want to down play the size, I guess to make you think its worth paying more for the 900
cuál es.el presio.
Is there a cruze control?
I’m sorry but for a road tiger (sport tour) go older tiger 1050. Long time tiger owner by the way. This is a leftover parts project or a EU licensing model.
Why??????
Awesome bike !!
Hmm.
That TFT screen looks expense to replace out of warranty 😉
They need an updated 1050 sport!
I presume Triumph know what they're doing but I'm very confused. I just don't see the point of "replacing" the 900 with this?!?
The new 1160 Speedy was meant to be released by now!!!
Good effort. But i assume it's the same old heavy pig? I'll wait for Aprilia 660 if I want a middle weight tour.
I didn't know Boris Becker was into motorcycles?
Maybe this is going to make the Moto Guzzi V 85 TT a bit cheaper. Thanks Triumph!
wow, some serious marketing speak here. Accessible = cheaper? Accessible = less power? I'm confusedededed.
Although its called the 850, its the same engine as the 900 just lower state of tune, which I'm sure you could play with later
Nice bike
Cruise control? Ride by wire?
Before you hang me I love the 900 Tiger, and I say that as an ex as 800 Tiger xcx owner , I especially like the 900 rally-pro as it answers all the niggles I had with the 800 and some, Better suspension, power and kit. BUT, why does this 850 “sport”, yet slower, oh the irony, even exist.
I’m sure that on normal roads the 850 sport and 900 GT will feel pretty similar, and it looks similar too, apart from the unfinished paint job. (Come on Karl, think of a quirky paint scheme that’ll fool the empire )
So what’s the point in the 850 sport, clearly there are political reasons, maybe different rules and regs( the old euro 850cc/85bhp trend) however, if the 900 gt simply had less gizmos and a slightly lower price point I’m sure sales would fly, ... Sadly I can only hear, Hi mate ”oh you bought the cheap one” ... and who wants the cheap one... ?
Riders buy and ride bikes to show off a bit, it’s about pride of ownership.... we all want to be the rebellious biker deep down, even the accountants.... so I’m left flummoxed by this bike, not that it’s a bad bike but it’s so close to the Tiger 900 gt, which, incidentally, with a well worked pcp deal will not be that much more to buy either.... my Tiger 900 reviews @threesixmoto
Cheers
Ride safe...
Cheers
Honestly, the only shame is not being able to equip the 850 with a cruise control...
Double Cheeseburger Sport 🤣
7:00 " A progressive reduction in power and torque". Sorry I don't want a bike that is restricted for no reason I can see. pretty sure next year it will be Full Power.
Yeah quite stupid. The ECU just progressively closes the throttle body the higher the rpm. Absolutely stupid. If I wanted less power I just wouldn't twist the throttle as far smh
@@Blockbuster2033 I have been told the reason it has less power is that to be able to be restricted to A2 licence holders the limit is a max of 50% so they had to make full power less.
@@stephenfleming7056 In whole of Europe the limit for a bike to be restricted to A2 is 95ps or 70kw. 50% more power than A2 would be 72ps, which this bike is still above at 85ps. Doesn't make any sense. They could have just detuned it to 95ps like their old Tiger 800...
@@Blockbuster2033 There is a power to weight limit of 0.2kw so might be that.
@@stephenfleming7056 Yeah so it's allowed to weigh 175kg if it had 95ps. I doubt it is lighter than that.
Edit: The old Tiger 800 was A2 compatible at 95ps.
This is what happens when decision making is predominantly driven by marketing. More manageable.. what a joke
Me being a triumph 1050 owner and a fanboy ... this is disappointing.. sport? we re still wating for a fresh real sport tiger . replace the 13 year old outdated model already . Give the customers a tall aggressive and powerful moto
I'd rather spend the extra 200 and get the 900GT
After a while you'd wanna have more power.
In today's standards
Anything less then 100 ps of power is not worth getting.
While triumph calls this bike 850 sport. It should produce more power considering todays competition.
Love triumph bikes.
But they are really trying hard to do new stuff and losing their ways.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Please Get back to basics triumph.
Go forward
Not the other way. . . .
Well said.
You lost me £200 more for the GT? The GT is £11,000
The GT has 95 PS you wouldnˋt notice a difference
The 1050 tiger sport was a class of its own, sporty upright bike just like 1000xr. This bike(tiger 850) is wrong in soo many ways! The only fail in triumph line up 2021. Didn't even get the navigation ,what's the use of TFT anyways?
Beautiful bike and the review 😘😘😘😘
Surely triumph have a 660 adventure bike up their sleeves? Or are they going to miss a trick here?🙄. Come on, no frills to beat Yamaha's T7 at least on price. Not that I will be swapping my T7 any time soon 👍
the 660 is still coming I guess
I love triumph i wait a lot for this moto but why sense 850 sport 85 cv tiger 900 remain better not understand this i expect 1050
Just need some customer friendly dealers now !.......my local ones are...💩
Should of called this cub or is the 650 version going to be cub. Bring on the 1150 🐅.
It's not a new for 2021 model
Triumph's strap line always used to be 'Go Your Own Way' but that should now be changed to 'Following BMW' If Triumph want to make in roads in to BMW's market then a good place to start would be by supplying the bikes with a 3 year manufacturers warranty
As a Triumph fan and owner.....I am not impressed with this 'unfinished' bike at all !
Nicely said, "UNFINISHED"!
I don't understand this bike... Put a 500cc engine in it with 47 bhp, scratch the Sport tag from the name, cut down 2500 from the price tag and it will have a purpose...
Sometimes I really don't get the manufactures...
Hey triumph, better start reading some of the comments that I just read in this forum. You seem to be following Harley Davidson's path. I hate to see another manufacturer become disconnected to their core customers.
Who did triumoh speek to, when developing this?!! Who wants this bike?! I'd still opt for the rallye... But probs going GS or new XR noe
They need to make a shorter 650-700 entry level and call this what it is..tiger 900
For us in India, what’s accessible is a bike that costs less then $10K..
This is still going to cost more than $15K, so it’s far from being accessible!
The bike is not expensive you're poor, just like us in Turkey :)
We cannot ride high cc bikes in indian road conditions we only require smaller cc bikes
@@tolgayilmaz9257 You’re partially right - I own a Kawasaki 650 that cost $10K in India, thanks to import duty ( 3-4K more than what it costs in the US ), but can’t afford a Tiger that would cost $15K ( even though a few riders in my Riding club own Tigers ) !
@@tolgayilmaz9257 very true
So a basic 900 but not in white with a led light? Not a criticism but it’s not a new bike just a new name
Don't forget the 10bhp loss
I don't understand how can you claim it to be more beneficial to be less powerful and therefore more manageable when you can simply put that as a map choice on the button on the bars?
The 900 Rally should've come with those tires. Not this one. :v
Also the GT
Triumph are so out of touch with the bike market. This should have been a £7-8k A2 friendly bike that competed with the Tracer 700. Who would buy this bike over the normal 900GT for £200 more?
The entry level 900 was £200 more which this is replacing. The 900GT is a lot more.
@@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff You're right, I messed up the prices of the old model and the 900GT. The 900GT is over £11k, which is nuts in itself. Both still over priced for me.
Excessability aye? Do you mean a financially accessable Triumph? lol. Where is the classic 650 twin for leaners etc?
Interesting bike; looks like it could sell. However, from my point of view, aside from many new bikes being presented as an excuse to sell accessories, the weak link in the production/distribution chain has little to do with Triumph products. What impedes an actual purchase is access to a reliable Triumph dealership. If there was a way to effectively cut out the useless glass boutique’s take of the cut and buy one configured direct from factory, I’d consider ordering a new bike. Personally, I’ve bought four new motorcycles in the last ten years and I just can’t bring myself to run that gauntlet again . . .
It's too bad the 850 doesn't offer cruise control, especially for long distance travel.
Where's the 1050 tiger sport with 17 inch front wheel.triump are going to have a shock when the new 900 tracer comes out it's power and equipment levels blow this out of the water and it's got a 17inch front wheel . 19 inch wheels look shit.
Buy a Yamaha tenere 700 for roughly the same price. way better bang for your buck
Good brakes and suspension what he did not say about the rest off the build quality in recent years triumph build quality has dropped off some what .
😎
Dont get why they dident go for a baby tiger 660, same engine as trident surely triumph would have saved money this way & sold more units as would have been more affordable ££££
wonderful bike. Confused, less power than the 900 but same engine, and it's called "More manageable power delivery" what does that mean ? Quite funny.. need a better marketing statement and reason lol...
The real reason is that the 850 has low enough power to restrict for A2 licence.
Now that makes sense 😅
