@@davehotten3287 Wouldn't suprise me. Personally I'm not interested in Triumphs really, I had a 2020 speed twin that wouldn't stop leaking oil. I've part exchanged it for a Honda Crossrunner now 👍🏻.
Not too worried about the negativity in these comments. I was looking for a versatile bike with about 80 horsepower, a comfortable riding position, easy luggage carrying, a centre stand, and an interesting engine feel and sound. This is exactly it and I have already placed an order. I have no interest in whether Triumph sell 10 of these or 1 million. Are there really riders here who can't get enough road performance from an engine with this wide torque band and power? I suppose nothing in the Tiger range would really suit them if they actually want to be chasing up and down dual carriageways and motorways for their riding kicks. I prefer the leafy back lanes that this bike is ideal for.
Such a failure of the marketing of this bike, they call it sport and it is in fact a even more basic version of tiger 900... Who the hell buys a bike labeled as "sport" when it has less power and a more tamed engine than the rally version?? And then we have the price, closer to the 900xr/tracer 900 than the 750gs/tracer 700, but with specs closer to the laters. Actually, I think marketing got it right. This is because there is an inflation of terms of recent times. Sport has now come to mean basic. Just look at the Audi or BMW websites, "sport" is usually the term reserved for the lowest trims for any car in both manufacturers. That's just the way it is now, sport means basic.

Rather than just cutting the power through the ECU, how about revising the intake and exhaust for low-down torque and adding some flywheel weight for easier clutch starts, smoother power and better traction? Then the bike would truly match the rhetoric. And I never understood the high tail design. Me being a triumph 1050 owner and a fanboy ... this is disappointing.. sport? we re still wating for a fresh real sport tiger . replace the 13 year old outdated model already . Give the customers a tall aggressive and powerful moto
I’m sorry but for a road tiger (sport tour) go older tiger 1050. Long time tiger owner by the way. This is a leftover parts project or a EU licensing model.
If triumph were McDonald's : so for all of you that love double cheeseburgers, but find them a bit hard to manage, we've taken one of the burgers out, and called it the Double cheeseburger special.
I like it. Colours are good and I'm all for softer tunes. For a touring style motorcycle a softer tune will equal more relaxed riding. I've test rode a few new bikes recently and actually prefer to leave rain mode on! They generally feel nicer for 90% of the time. If you don't agree, spend a bit more and get a 900.
Before you hang me I love the 900 Tiger, and I say that as an ex as 800 Tiger xcx owner , I especially like the 900 rally-pro as it answers all the niggles I had with the 800 and some, Better suspension, power and kit. BUT, why does this 850 “sport”, yet slower, oh the irony, even exist. I’m sure that on normal roads the 850 sport and 900 GT will feel pretty similar, and it looks similar too, apart from the unfinished paint job. (Come on Karl, think of a quirky paint scheme that’ll fool the empire ) So what’s the point in the 850 sport, clearly there are political reasons, maybe different rules and regs( the old euro 850cc/85bhp trend) however, if the 900 gt simply had less gizmos and a slightly lower price point I’m sure sales would fly, ... Sadly I can only hear, Hi mate ”oh you bought the cheap one” ... and who wants the cheap one... ? Riders buy and ride bikes to show off a bit, it’s about pride of ownership.... we all want to be the rebellious biker deep down, even the accountants.... so I’m left flummoxed by this bike, not that it’s a bad bike but it’s so close to the Tiger 900 gt, which, incidentally, with a well worked pcp deal will not be that much more to buy either.... my Tiger 900 reviews @threesixmoto Cheers Ride safe...
Reading the comments it seems like this wont be a homerun...They make an 800, than make a 900, then a 850? They probably should have made a much more road focused and affordable version with the 765. This one kind of falls in a category that nobody was really asking for.
You need to watch the actual video, its a 900 engine with the new firing order, just de-tuned, the "8502 name is on par with BMW's 700 (which is an 800), don't ask me why they want to down play the size, I guess to make you think its worth paying more for the 900
Why the high level exhaust? Form over function as it will reduce the luggage capacity for those of us who tour. I had a Tiger 1050 and loved the riding position (and my pillion loved it) but the luggage limitations were part of the reason for changing.
I'm so sorry! But!!!! Triumph is the same as the successful Country Singer who goes to the entrepreneur's conversation and starts to sing Rock and Jazz to please more audiences, in my opinion, an 800 and a 1200 with good footprint and cutting edge technology would be more interesting. An 850? 900? and 1200? it was even stranger at 850 with a trimmed and reduced engine. I am of the opinion of Bruce Lee - It is better a fighter who trained a thousand times, one type of kick than a fighter who trained a thousand types of kick. Want a tip? Put all the weight of the bike as low as possible to be more maneuverable at low speed and light in curves.
On March 13, 2021, I ordered the Tiger 850 sports version at the Beijing dealer Dade Liangju Kaixuan store, the color is red, and I paid a deposit. The salesperson Ms. Liu and the grumpy Mr. Wang agreed to arrive in two and a half months. Until the end of June, during the period, Ms. Liu exaggerated the process, misled the buyer, bought the car process, lacked product knowledge, and spoke inconsistently. Based on the feedback from some domestic car owners on the vehicle's oil leakage, I asked Miss Liu if she could do a detailed test. She replied that DPI testing can improve quality. After that, Ms. Liu suddenly proposed to test the car on the road. Here, she told me that this was a testing process and misled me. After the test, she asked a third person to conduct a road test on my car. I can accept the normal DPI test. However, these contents were misunderstood by the store manager, after-sales service, and general manager that I refused to test the car. At the beginning of July, I asked the salesperson Ms. Liu again, and their promise was not fulfilled, and then Ms. Liu suddenly notified me that I had to pay tariffs. At this point, I have lost my trust in Beijing dealers. I now seriously complain to the dealers in Beijing, including all sales, after-sales managers and general managers. They promised that the car will arrive in two and a half months, but the car did not arrive until the end of June. The salesman tried to make trouble and asked me to return the goods. After that, the general manager Ms. Jin actually denied that my car had arrived in Beijing. Their statements are inconsistent. I seriously suspect that they sold my car to other people at a high price for personal gain. Said it was for my sake, malicious slander, and very poor service attitude. As a customer, I was very angry. The Shanghai distributor told me that after the price increase at the end of June, due to the shortage of chips, several models such as the Tiger 850 Sport will not arrive until 2022. However, Jinan dealers have already delivered five Tiger 850 Sport in early July. The situation of Jinan dealers is seriously inconsistent with what the Beijing dealers said. In addition, the general dealer in Shanghai, China was unable to provide service specifications to regional dealers, which resulted in me being unable to get my motorcycle. I asked the British headquarters to perform the contract and return my car. In response to the problems and loopholes reflected above, it is hoped that the UK headquarters can thoroughly investigate and prevent commercial fraud.

Buy a Yamaha tenere 700 for roughly the same price. way better bang for your buck
Got to say i am a Triumph fan, But i dont see the point of this one. 600 range ye, But 850 governed down from the 900. Bit of a flop i feel. But time will tell.
It's too bad the 850 doesn't offer cruise control, especially for long distance travel.
No sense this motorbike i waiting months for new tigersport and now tiger sport 82 cv is egal to 900, and in same time tarcer 9 better in all triumph please hope has a surprise before spring
Where's the 1050 tiger sport with 17 inch front wheel.triump are going to have a shock when the new 900 tracer comes out it's power and equipment levels blow this out of the water and it's got a 17inch front wheel . 19 inch wheels look shit.
Is there a cruze control?
I thought sports is more powerful
Holycrap they decreased its power to 85ps
Poor guy, having to defend this bull shit 😂 if you want to make it more accessible it should be 40kg lighter, around 60 to 70 hp and +- 7500 euro.Ooh,that's where the Trident comes in 😂
Cruise control? Ride by wire?
??? Who were the twits they talked to that wanted this bike??? Accountants???
No cruse control.
Not buying it.
No heated grips.
I wonder what that "sport" does in the name?
😎
You’ve got to wonder if, in more ways than one, the 850 was designed to be discounted.
Just another wank. Where are spoked wheels? ADV styl bike, called sport, with less power and 19 inch cast front wheel. Wtf is this? Are you in Triumph complete lost your mind.
Sport means power, I suppose, give it 17 inch weels and call it sport, or give it spoked wheels and call it ADV. This is not ADV bike, not Sport bike, it's Frankenstein.
I feel its just a detuned, resprayed base 900. Glad my dealer sourced a 900 base for me.
An all 17 sumo would actually have a market... and go for the customers they r aiming at. Pretty sure that version here gonna fail epicly
Looks like a Yamaha XT660
not a good look for a brand new 2021 motorcycle... facepalm
Spoiler: Tiger 900 renamed Tiger 850 and $200 less. They need to rename it Tiger 699 and knock off $2500 to compete with Yammy T7. You can't make this stuff up, they are that dumb.
How the hell can they get it so right with the trident, and so bloody far off the mark with this crap
Shouldn't you be in the Triumph factory in Thailand, where these great "British" (!!😵) bikes are built?
Odd how they dare to keep putting Union Flags on their Thai build stuff, why not be honest and put the Thai flags on them? So misleading!
Big step back... poor
sport? lol
😴😴😴😴😴😴😴Snore😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
meehhh, i am not excited...ugly can, terrible graphics...the rest look good...only
So a 900 in Rain mode? At least there's a bit of colour in all the grey
:)
I was thinking the same and was just about to comment when i saw yours... typical big corp boost sales by pretending something is new
Really Triumph , what a pointless motorcycle, dreadfully colour scheme, I'm shocked that such a great company would bring this out, what are the designers thinking , what are triumph thinking !!!!!!
Double Cheeseburger Sport 🤣
So you make a bike shitter and call it a sport !!! Right . ....🤔
dont knock it till youve test rode it
(Come on Karl, think of a quirky paint scheme that’ll fool the empire )
So what’s the point in the 850 sport, clearly there are political reasons, maybe different rules and regs( the old euro 850cc/85bhp trend) however, if the 900 gt simply had less gizmos and a slightly lower price point I’m sure sales would fly, ... Sadly I can only hear, Hi mate ”oh you bought the cheap one” ... and who wants the cheap one... ?
Riders buy and ride bikes to show off a bit, it’s about pride of ownership.... we all want to be the rebellious biker deep down, even the accountants.... so I’m left flummoxed by this bike, not that it’s a bad bike but it’s so close to the Tiger 900 gt, which, incidentally, with a well worked pcp deal will not be that much more to buy either.... my Tiger 900 reviews @threesixmoto
Cheers
Ride safe...
Excessability aye? Do you mean a financially accessable Triumph? lol. Where is the classic 650 twin for leaners etc?
Reading the comments it seems like this wont be a homerun...They make an 800, than make a 900, then a 850? They probably should have made a much more road focused and affordable version with the 765. This one kind of falls in a category that nobody was really asking for.
Although its called the 850, its the same engine as the 900 just lower state of tune, which I'm sure you could play with later
As a Triumph fan and owner.....I am not impressed with this 'unfinished' bike at all !
Nicely said, "UNFINISHED"!
Just need some customer friendly dealers now !.......my local ones are...💩
Should have had 17" front with sport touring tires and not a power reduction, a power boost.
I think it is an old 800 engine with new 900 body
The 1050 tiger sport was a class of its own, sporty upright bike just like 1000xr. This bike(tiger 850) is wrong in soo many ways! The only fail in triumph line up 2021. Didn't even get the navigation ,what's the use of TFT anyways?
pointless model, Triumph you should have left this as a base model 900, you would do better using the Trident 660 engine in a lightweight no frills adventure bike to go head to head with the Yamaha T7, Which happens to be selling really well by the way!!
This bike speaks to me. I’ve been looking for an incremental upgrade the the vstrom650. Will this be coming to the United States?
Just save up a bit more and get a 900 GT
It will be available
youll not be seeing to many of these on the roads, whats the point, seriously, your saying sport in once sentence and adventure in the next, lol. make a low version of this and put sport tyres on it
Honestly, the only shame is not being able to equip the 850 with a cruise control...
