I just watched your video yesterday and did the same repair on my Chevy Cruze and it worked perfectly of course. Very easy and it helped me not take unnecessary steps that would damage other parts of the engine unnecessarily. Because I saw other videos and they had taken many many more steps even taking apart the bottom of the engine the other side of the engine for god-knows-what. This is why I don't bring my car to the mechanics anymore because most of the time seriously they would have more problems coming back at me then I gave to them. Maybe I was just unlucky and meant to DIY my own stuff and besides it worked out good because people appreciate me now I can help fix their stuff. And by the way my car is running perfectly for over a day now and it is awesome.

Did you put a pin in the belt tensioner after removing the belt? I didn't and it made a popping sound. The metal strip in the center of the spring is supposed to stick out the end for the PIN to hold tension. My metal strip has retracted all the way inside the spring and spring has no tension until I give it some. Do I need a new belt tensioner now?

Thanks much for the video. Very helpful. I have a 2011 Cruze and I've replaced the water pump, thermostat, and the main radiator hose leading into the thermostat. I still have an occasional drip where the hose connects to the thermostat. I've checked several times to make sure the hose is on as tight as it can be, but it still drips occasionally. Hi like your video but a question and some information and I would like your opinion on.The 2 long bolts on the left of the water pump with the different thread i believe they are stretch bolts that need to be change when doing this water pump replacement and I thing they are 30 degree turn after torque spec's are met and the water pump top bolts are stretch bolts that also need to be replaced. Stretch bolt lose their function after the first use and become weak and need to be replaced.Let me know if you heard about any of the info regarding the repair. Thanks for your time and happy youtubing

My tensioner spring popped forward. The metal strip is all the way inside the spring now. You never mentioned to put a pin in it? Is it ruined now? I watched another video and they said you're supposed to put a pin in it to hold the tension after you remove the belt.
Since you have used high temperature RTV at the water pump mating surface, don't you need to wait 24 hours for RTV be solidified, the adding 50/50 coolant?
I had no issues replacing the thermostat, coolant reservoir and the water pump thanks to your videos! However, after replacing the water pump today I now have a squeal that sounds like it's coming from the pulley. Everything else works great, but that squeal needs to go! Hi, PLEASE HELP. I did everything in this video. My 2014 Chevy Cruze doesn’t leak anymore, but my coolant resivor is steaming or something, it’s really bad. - I went from refilling my coolant in my car once in a while, to now I can’t even leave it idle for more than 10 minutes without my reservoir steaming, on top of that the pressure gets so bad it looked like the reservoir/lid nearly going to explode. Please help me, I have no idea what’s wrong; I watched this video at least 10 times, I’m not kidding and did it exactly as shown. Tomorrow morning (nov 6,2021) I’m getting up early to try to fill the coolant system the way you did, since that’s the only thing I did different, I didn’t remove bleeder valve

Those engine mount bolts are stretch bolts so technically you're not supposed to re use them. They should be torqued to spec and then tightened another 60 degrees.. I.e into the plastic deformation phase of the bolt. I probably wouldn't replace them either but your viewers should know those bolts are not "supposed" to be re-used as they are already stretched.
You're correct about the bolts. My local GM dealer stated there were 11 bolts and that they will in fact sell separately, totaling around $59 and available next day. I'd suggest replacing them rather than potentially redoing the whole project.

My daughter's cruze keeps over hearing. I've changed the thermostat a couple years ago (seemed fine) then recently I had to change the canister purge valve. After doing that if still is over hearing and antifreeze is stemming out of the overflow on the purge canister. The only thing I can think of now is the waterpump? Thoughts?
Thanks for watching & it’s very possible that the Thermostat has failed. The more Cruze owners we talk to, the more we are hearing that the replaced Thermostat is failing after 2 years or so. We can’t rule that out as an option. We recommend having the engine run for a minimum of 15 minutes to see if the thermostat warms up. Also, if it’s cold after engine has been overheating, that means it has failed.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders thanks I replaced the thermostat and it is running great again. Thankfully cause I wasn't looking forward to replacing the water pump lol.

Other than that it’s been fine driving 30 miles a day the past week. The only things I’ve been told to check next are the water pump and radiator. Any ideas I’m missing something maybe?
Miguel Soria Thanks for watching & we hope you enjoyed the video. It’s very possible that you have a water pump in its early stages of failure. I did forget to mention that the long bolt that goes in the middle of the water pump base is stripped do you have any suggestions on what I can do the bolt just keeps turning
@@williambarlow9291 Thanks for the reply, is the threaded portion inside the engine stripped or is it just the bolt that needs to be replaced? If it’s just the bolt you’re good to go with a brand new bolt however if it’s the thread inside the engine, you may need to re-thread the insert. A re-thread kit can be purchased at AutoZone as well.
@@williambarlow9291 Thanks for watching & AutoZone will have a better answer. We have attached a link below that shows us performing a similar process on a boat engine. Just curious i any one has had noticed fresh motor oil on their motor mount bolts or knows what the cause could be from? It doesn’t leak oil and I’ve noticed this the two separate times I’ve changed the water pump, also the valve cover and gasket has been replaced. Thanks for any info.
Hey Bruce, thanks for watching and sharing this. We just checked and found no oil on motor mounts. Do you have a shop change your oil, if so, it’s very possible that the shop accidentally spilled a bit of oil.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I guess I should’ve been a little more specific about it, two out of three of the long bolts that holds the motor mount to the engine looks like you dipped them in fresh motor oil all the way to the bottom of the bolt head. Like the inside of the bolt cavity gets oil in it. But while they were removed, no oil dripped from the bolt holes and my car doesn’t leak oil. The car runs fine but just wish I know why it’s like that.
@@Sneakydevil247 Thanks for the reply, we see exactly what you’re referring to. We do see a bit of oil on tip, not 100% sure why. We do show a slight oil stain on that lower mount. ?
Good morning, we are drinking our morning coffee answering any & all questions for the DIY community. That’s awesome you took the time to share this. Any & all helpful info is greatly appreciated!!! 😎👍
Good morning & thanks for watching. If your engine begins to overheat, that’s an indication that something has gone wrong within the coolant system. In most cases, the internal wheel will stop spinning over time & not assisting in guiding HOT coolant out of engine & through thermostat to then be routed through radiator for cooling. If the internal wheel becomes loose or warped, you can actually hear whistling noises as well as clicking or ticking noises as the wheel is making contact with the inner mold of the pump housing. Hope all is well. 😎👍🔧🔩

I can't see the coolant leak. I've been letting it run don't see anything. It's leaking coolant pretty bad. Seems to lose more when driving than sitting still. Where could my problem be ??
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. This has become unfortunately a common cause with the Cruze... coolant just disappearing without any trace of leaks...🤔 What people are running into is the actual coolant sneaking past the internal engine seals and getting burned off by the engine and exhausted out the tail pipe... leaving no signs or foot prints anywhere within the engine in regards to where the coolant is going. Some people just continue adding coolant to ensure that the coolant level never falls below the minimum line however most people are getting this fixed asap. Some people make it a DIY project while others have the engine service at the shop. Please keep us posted on your project.

Im wacthing this video for my autoshop class and I was wondering what year the car is. is it a 2014?
Since you have used high temperature RTV at the water pump mating surface, don't you need to wait 24 hours for RTV be solidified, the adding 50/50 coolant?
Nice bro very helpful

Do you have a motor mount replacement video for this car
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Not at the moment.
😎👍🔧🔩
Those engine mount bolts are stretch bolts so technically you're not supposed to re use them. They should be torqued to spec and then tightened another 60 degrees.. I.e into the plastic deformation phase of the bolt. I probably wouldn't replace them either but your viewers should know those bolts are not "supposed" to be re-used as they are already stretched.
Thanks for watching & sharing your thoughts. Let us know if you have any questions.

You're correct about the bolts. My local GM dealer stated there were 11 bolts and that they will in fact sell separately, totaling around $59 and available next day. I'd suggest replacing them rather than potentially redoing the whole project.

I replaced water pump but now after putting it all back together the fan is on high and won’t go back to normal. Any idea why?
Christian Tarver
Thanks for the update. This can happen for a few different reasons. Most common cause is a coolant issue. It’s important that you add the proper coolant per the owners manual & fill system up to its proper fill parameters. Another cause is moisture inside the Thermostat electrical connection. Verify connection point is clean, clear of debris, & dry.

Thanks for the reply. By chance, did you add Gasket Maker prior to securing Pump?
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders
If thats that greyish looking crap that looks like putty almost then yes he did
Lisa Toscano
Thanks for the reply. Each gasket maker has its own drying time. It’s possible that the gasket maker used during your project needs more time to dry & create that solid seal. The gasket maker tube should say the drying time.

Very cool, thanks for taking the time to share this update Travis. Hopefully many stress free days ahead for you.

Nooo, 😲...are there any remaining parts of the coolant system that have not been replaced within the last two years?
Mr. Borders my wife’s 12 Cruze LT has been saying AC off due to engine temp. I’ve changed the reservoir, flushed the coolant I’ve changed both sensors the one in the radiator and the one in the engine. She says the light popped up after driving over 60 mph. Other than that it’s been fine driving 30 miles a day the past week. The only things I’ve been told to check next are the water pump and radiator. Any ideas I’m missing something maybe?

Thanks for watching & we hope you enjoyed the video. It’s very possible that you have a water pump in its early stages of failure. This water pump is a GM recall part & can be replaced at your local Chevy dealership for 100% free. We recommend trying that next before taking any additional money out of your pocket.

Are the water pump bolts ok to re use? What about the engine mount bolts?
Thanks for watching Kerri, they are indeed if there’s no noticeable damage to the bolt or thread.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders where can I buy new bolts?
@@josiemendoza5974
Thanks for the reply, it may be as simple as visiting your local junkyard and taking bolts off a Cruze in the junkyard.
The other option is to contact your local Chevy dealership and provide them the last 8 digits of your vin number.
They will be able to get you the exact replacement bolts for your exact engine. 😎👍
Hello Mr. Michael do you want kind of bolts go in the water pump on a 2013 chevy cruz LT engine 1.4 I put a new water pump on but it still leaks due to me only having 7 to 8 of the bolts out 10 which were how many was on the water pump before I took it off
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Great question & we recommend contacting your local Chevy dealership and giving them the last 8 digits of your vin #.
They will be able to get you the exact replacement bolts for your exact engine. This will ensure you’re not getting incorrect bolts that are not compatible.

I did forget to mention that the long bolt that goes in the middle of the water pump base is stripped do you have any suggestions on what I can do the bolt just keeps turning
@@williambarlow9291
Thanks for the reply, is the threaded portion inside the engine stripped or is it just the bolt that needs to be replaced?
If it’s just the bolt you’re good to go with a brand new bolt however if it’s the thread inside the engine, you may need to re-thread the insert.
A re-thread kit can be purchased at AutoZone as well.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders yes sir its inside the engine do i re- thread with the same size bolt or do I go up another size when I re-thread
@@williambarlow9291
Thanks for watching & AutoZone will have a better answer. We have attached a link below that shows us performing a similar process on a boat engine.
Although it is for spark plug thread, it’s the same concept when using the automotive bolt kit.

Does anyone have the part number for the water pump?
Thanks for watching, what year & engine is your Cruze?
@@Sneakydevil247
Thanks for the reply, we see exactly what you’re referring to. We do see a bit of oil on tip, not 100% sure why. We do show a slight oil stain on that lower mount. ?

That’s awesome you took the time to share this. Any & all helpful info is greatly appreciated!!! 😎👍
Whats the best way to tell if the pump is failing?
Good morning & thanks for watching. If your engine begins to overheat, that’s an indication that something has gone wrong within the coolant system.
In most cases, the internal wheel will stop spinning over time & not assisting in guiding HOT coolant out of engine & through thermostat to then be routed through radiator for cooling.
If the internal wheel becomes loose or warped, you can actually hear whistling noises as well as clicking or ticking noises as the wheel is making contact with the inner mold of the pump housing.
Hope all is well. 😎👍🔧🔩
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders when driving for an hour my car starts to run hot on idle…I’m going to change the thermostat once it comes in. I do get bubbling in the reservoir…not sure how f there’s air in the cooling system…there is hissing in the valve cover diagram which I’m also waiting for the valve cover no coolant loss although I did do a coolant change with my car on ramps

I can't see the coolant leak. I've been letting it run don't see anything. It's leaking coolant pretty bad. Seems to lose more when driving than sitting still. Where could my problem be ??
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. This has become unfortunately a common cause with the Cruze... coolant just disappearing without any trace of leaks...🤔
What people are running into is the actual coolant sneaking past the internal engine seals and getting burned off by the engine and exhausted out the tail pipe... leaving no signs or foot prints anywhere within the engine in regards to where the coolant is going.
Some people just continue adding coolant to ensure that the coolant level never falls below the minimum line however most people are getting this fixed asap. Some people make it a DIY project while others have the engine service at the shop.
Please keep us posted on your project.
