    You can sure tell the City folk from the Country folk here in the remarks. You learn so much more by living on the farm...that you get the common sense from your older family members...they teach you things, that city folks never even see or hear about... wow!

    As an added security I slide 3 stacked 2x12's under the frame and lightly tap them in. 90% of the time they dont move and hold the bike more stable for long trips.
    Another trick That someone recently showed me was when taking the bike out dont start it and leave it in first gear. Use the clutch to ease you off the ramp instead of sliding down and praying you dont drop the bike. Information and advice are free. You can use them or not. Good video

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  6 років тому

      I can see stacking the 2x12's as far as off loading we do take the bike out of first gear to get them out of the chicks then we put them in first gear not runing and go down the ramp slipping the clutch when at the bottom we take it out of first and that way clear the ramp then start the bike and park it....😎👍...

      Take plenty of time when getting a toy hauler we went to a lot of RV shows first make sure your truck is going to handle the toy hauler above all then before you buy it go completely through it make sure everything works and everything looks great and if it's brand new one make sure you use it a lot so you can have any issues addressed and fixed. You only get a limited warranty on it and then.... Have Fun!!😎👍...

      when you have bikes worth taking care of you want to make sure you have them tied up. if i had a ducati i would just strap it to the bumper and drag it down the street.

    Great video. I use the Wheel dock in my Outlaw Class C Toy hauler. Locks the bike in place without straps compressing the front forks. I also use it in the garage no need to use a jiffystand.

      at times I use it in the garage too. But when I put it in the toy hauler i am now down to 4 straps per bike works out great without compressing the forks.

    Awesome! Thanks so much for showing this. We debated on getting a toy hauler, but ended up getting a regular fifth wheel because my wife doesn't ride. But you never know, we may get one in the future and this info will help me greatly. Didn't know about putting the bike in "trailer mode," very good tip.

  • @OKRMetric
    @OKRMetric 4 роки тому +1

    if you will stack some 2X4 or 2X6 blocks under the very front of the frame as high as they will fit with the bike standing upright.. you can then put tie-downs on it and pull them down and it will sit flat on those blocks.. this keeps you from squashing the suspension down and the bike will not rock from side to side AT ALL. this makes it rock solid for transport.. you can do this on any trailer as well and you don't need the wheel dock if you don't have one..

    We have two conflicting rules but i'm going with my guy because he is an old timer that has his own shop and use to work on and was the mechanic for Drag bikes.He says leave the kick stand down and be sure to put the bike in neutral in case you get rear ended or have to stop fast. Or you will break first gear.

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  7 років тому

      Shane Smith well like I said I'm no professional but I will not put my kickstand down I want the suspension of the bike to work a little with the bumps maybe the dragster bikes only have an inch clearance or something and I leave mine in gear if I get rear-ended or something hit brakes and it breaks a gear I don't think I'm going to be around LOL, but the main thing that's just the way I do it and again I'm no professional... just saw your video tried to email you through You Tube wouldn't go through....

    Mike, great demo on how you load the bikes, I am purchasing a single bike trailer, (pull behind my truck), you had spoke about not tying down the front forks, but I was unable to see on your vlog what and how you tied the straps too the front of the bikes. I've seen some that tie to the lower portion of the forks .

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  8 років тому

      The heaviest tie down is off of my passenger straps, I have forward tie downs to the engine guards (engine guards NO HEAVY LOAD) soon as i see my engine guard flex a little I stop, which is very soon. Passenger pegs are used with tie downs aft leading forward to the bike and strait down. Hope this helps

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  4 роки тому

      Ours is heavy enough where we can do that, now I could see smaller units were it could be a problem but it's nice to raise the front if needed and in that case I would block the tires and most of these units have stabilizers on the back I would put them down so, the unit wouldn't tilt any. I would think the stabilizer would be strong enough... now for part two once you get the bikes loaded if you retract the stabilizers is the trailer going down in the back?🤔....

      lol....we have made some small and larger trips. One of our favorites was from Gainesville, FL to Nova Scotia and back, we did that twice. But I am retired and Marcia will be soon. We have two dogs that we just hated leaving them at home. So we decided to get a fifth wheel RV and take the dogs with us. Soon we realized we would have to give up some nice roomy fifth wheels because we decided there is no way where we going to leave our bikes! Now we hope to stay away a month or longer at a time, and take our dogs with us, and explore and video our riding areas while we are at our home away from home.....

    I really don't like the HF wheel chocks. Hard to load and hard to pull back out. I use a Wheeldock in a toy hauler. Rides straight in and out with no rocking. Costs more but you get what you pay for. Same rule for helmets.

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  7 років тому

      no problem loading have the engine on the bike to do that, now off loading can be tricky if your on a down grade, but if you collapse the front forks and pull back hold the front brake at the top of the pull back then collapse the forks again i can walk it out pretty easy....

      Right here I didn't have to raise it but now with our new unit there's times when the rear ends too high and I have the app on my phone and I can race it from back of the trailer and watch my hoses on the side while raising it funny thing the last place we camped at I went ahead and unstrap Marcia trike and I started raising it and I was almost at the point I was ready to stop and I heard some noise and there went Marcia trike quick-release right out of the toy hauler by itself did a hard right almost went off the ramp turn the other way and kept zigzagging back and forth it didn't flip Ed and I caught it before it hit parked car that won't happen again😎👍...

    Also , sorry about all the questions, but when you start up the ramp, is there a section when the front wheel is on the ramp and back wheel on the ground that your feet don't touch the ground ?

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  8 років тому

      a very small section try to adjust for that, front wheel on the ramp and just a little more speed at the very beginning soon as I know I can touch I just play the clutch. I know what your talking about watching the Junior Rangers especially off loading legs running with out touching the ground.

    Thank you for making this video. I've been going to the rv shows and looking because this is what I want to do when I retire. Looked at the toy haulers and the ramps looked very steep and wondered if my Ultra would bottom out in the center or have trouble going up the ramp. I was leaning towards a motor home and pulling a small enclosed trailer. Now watching you do it. I can consider the toy haulers again. As it got any easier loading and ever any problems going up the ramp? Thanks

      I have to say Marcia's pipes have scraped and have a flat spot. Ed's have done the same he had long pipes but with his new pipes no problem. the other note if I think it's going to be an issue I disconnect the truck and raise the front of the toy hauler which changes the angle of the ramp, and usually have no problems.....

      3 years later and here I am thinking that my Ultra will bottom out at the ramp hinge point causing my old ass to fall over, but I see he had no problem at all with his Ultra....lol. May have to go back to looking into a toy hauler again. I also recently watched a video where a couple used a portable 110v Warn winch to pull the bike up the ramp on days when the ramp and / or tires may be wet so you don't lose traction going up.

    I don't know if your toy hauler has a dovetail floor or not but mine didn't. If you are not on a level surface and your ramp is at a larger angle your ultra will catch and will stop you in a hurry . lol. It happened to me. Scared the crap out of me.

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  6 років тому

      Jeff Tucker I am thinking dovetail must be the slight curve between the ramp and the toy hauler floor which takes some of the angle out? Lol I can imagine hanging up there, I remember one time having to wiggle the bike to clear it. Another one is loading the bike when it's raining. If I am right about the dovetail, ours has diamond plated and when wet you can sit right there and spin your tires trying to get the bike in. You have to back down a little get the back wheel back on rough finish ramp and go a little faster to clear it...

      Happened to me too, the very first time I loaded my new toy hauler a few years ago. I tip the trailer so much now that it look ridiculous, but I don't bottom out anymore! My new trailer that I got this year is dovetailed, but I still tip it when loading or unloading!

    I see how you put it into the floor. did you have to come up through floor to secure the first inserts into the floor? I saw your link to the bolt mounts. Could you show me a photo of the motorcycle chocks? Can you remove your chocks when the bikes are out? Can you get the back bed or top bed down enough with the bikes in to not have to back out the bikes. Could you do that with one bike? We are looking at a 2016 332 TS Raptor and the guys are fighting mounting a removeabvle chock. Noone at the dealer yet mentioned there may be tanks under the bed making it tough to mount the chocks. But you put two boikes in there!! I have a 1994 heritage Softail with windshield.8 ft by 3 feet across high rise bars by 4'11". Most of my friends have softails and I'd like to take them on a few trips. My best friend's bike is34" x 92 x 7.5'. I've got a deposit pending on being able to put one or two bikes in the garage. it is 12/15/2016. You seem to be the only person that is not putting anything but dirt bikes or four wheelers in there and I'm betting the dealers don't tell you it is tricky on purpose. Thanks for the video and I'm looking forward to your response, Shane

      Hey Shane right at this moment I don't have a picture of our chocks, but I have a link that I found and just for the purpose so you can see what the chocks look like I'm going to send the link or post it here. I got our chocks from Harbor Freight and you can get them a lot of times for around 50 something dollars yes I pulled our chocks out every time we go, I have plastic caps just to make it look neat when the chocks are out, my chocks are there mainly so I have a reference point every time I load the bikes, they're not very structured, I have them just to put the bikes in the same location each time and those chocks allow me to get off the bike and take my time strapping them down they are not bolted through the floor I kind of call what I bought and put on the floor kind of like T-nuts they're only like three quarters of an inch deep, with ½ inch coarse thread, and I was very careful drilling into the deck because I too was concerned about the fuel tank and it auxiliary fuel tank underneath, now I have taken the bed out on the top I still have the u shaped couch which can sleep two people but the main thing I wanted was more headroom, more lighting, and open to my exhaust fan, I also added to the bracket for the U shaped couch so the automatic switch would cut off when the couch is completely up, when I loaded bikes with two bikes you would have to be pretty athletic to lower the couch so that you can sleep back there, it’s very tight, and then would be hard to try to get to the bed up high, also when the slides are in on our unit you can't access the rest of the unit we have to go out the side door now if you only have one bike in there you probably could make it work. Also I had them install one more row of 3 recessed chocks (tie downs) , the rear two I don’t use they are too far back, each bike takes less than 10 minutes to load and strap down, only about 5 minutes to unload. Hope this helps you out….hope this post this time lol… the link for the purpose to see what the chock look like is here: ua-cam.com/video/yLEa-uic6lw/v-deo.html

    After almost a year, how are the Harbor Freight wheel chocks holding up? I need to buy a chock for my Ultra to go into our toy hauler. It's either the $50 Harbor Freight or $140 Condor chock.

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  7 років тому

      The chocks are holding out just great but remember I'm mainly using them just to keep the bikes upright and the stop them where they're supposed to be at, they're strapped down with six straps sounds a lot yep, probably a whole nine minutes for each bike maybe not that long

    • @mikee994
      @mikee994 7 років тому

      I would be putting my bike near a sliding glass door. I see that you have Marcia's bike set back from the wall just a bit to offset the handlebars. The chock doesn't slide forward at all without it resting against a lip near the door like yours is? I may set mine back a couple inches. I have a 10' garage. I would use the same style T nuts and several straps also.

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  7 років тому

      Mine is just inches from our big door which is mainly glass and like I said I don't have the chocks bolt completely through like you were saying the T nuts that's what I use, soon as we get there, I unscrew them put them by the back ramp behind the couch and use all that garage for living space . so ready for another trip , lol working on video right now of one of the day trips while in Arkansas....

    Your hat brim hides the thing which you need to miss. I'd take my hat off! -You check your oil with the bike on the side stand? Must be a Harley thing, my bike wants to be on the center stand, else you get a bad level reading. -Would it be easier to strap the first bike, before you put the second bike in? Where do you put your front strap, on the bike? I get that you don't want them on the fork- but you did not show where they are attached.

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  5 років тому +3

      Hello Dan, dont know why your email shows more than the post here? The hat may hide obstacles but hurts even more without out it when I run into things, main thing after running into things you learn pretty good, hat or no hat. I do secure one bike at a time, video just shows with those chocks you have all the time you need. We had bought another toy hauler and have made many trips at the end we only used 4 straps per bike which is plenty. We have hit some pot holes and big bumps across the road where they stop stripping the payment with great force with me saying every bad word there is knowing the bike must have come loose, you know that feeling when you stop and slowly open the side door just knowing the bikes will be laying on each other.....so far all is good. Now with the Harley's you have 3 different areas to put oil in. Yes on the Harley the dip stick (engine oil) is marked for level, or on kick stand while hot. Now our new bikes all drain plugs are on the left side which is great draining engine oil, primary oil, and transmission oil while on the kickstand. Now main purpose for chocks is positioning bikes in the right spot every time, and to hold the bike up while strapping down. Strapping points on my bike straight down from passenger floor boards and one on each saddlebag guard, almost confident all I need is passenger floorboards only but will keep it to 4 points. Now since Marcia has had her bike converted to a trike still use 4 point to strap my bike in after I slide the back end of my bike within an inch of the wall with the neat little jack I modify. Only 1" between the front of her back left fender and my right saddlebag guard, still learning how to strap her trike down only made two big trips 1000+ miles and each time broke a short lead strap but never touched each other...hope I have answered your question 😎👍...

  • @recyclebills
    @recyclebills 6 років тому

    Strange, you don't want to compress the front forks so instead of strapping to the handlebars or the front forks you strap to the crash bars, but strapping to the crash bar still loads the front forks. Now obviously it is your choice but most people I know who object to compressing the front forks avoid doing so by strapping down the front tire as this guy does: ua-cam.com/video/b2_gmjuLdhY/v-deo.html
    Honestly, as for blowing out seals, the pressure against compressed seals is probably no more likely to blow out a seal than the wear and tear of the suspension moving up and down wearing the seals as you go down the road.
    How do I do it? Depends on what the customer prefers. Either way his baby ain't falling off my trailer.

    • @motorcyclefreedom
      @motorcyclefreedom  6 років тому

      I don't know what it is with me but I have seen some people really compress the front forks and I know it isn't designed for that. Yes you don't need to do that much compressing. Now I only use 4 straps to secure each bike. I no longer go to the engine guard (when I did I would torque down to just where they were flexing but noticed I had to tighten one engine guards) but I don't do that no more..now I have one strap on each of the passenger floor board on my bike (Ultra) and one on each of the saddle bag bars total of 4 straps. Now I don't crank down as hard as I can, I just put them snug on the passenger floor boards (start to tighten then add 1 - 2 cranks on the ratchet) and barely tight on the saddle bag rails. The ratchet straps I use have no hooks its a complete circle so if the suspension moves nothing comes unhooked. Really after just the passenger floor boards the bike really doesn't move, my chock set up is only for quick position of the bike and to stand up as I strap her down. Marcia's Street Glide same set up only main straps go to her floor boards. Floor board should be able to take some torque, saddle bag rail, be careful really designed just for saddle bags not sure why I even strap them maybe to help keep the back from fishtailing in a critical stop. Again not saying this is the right way! But it is the way we do it....... And it is fast!!

    • @recyclebills
      @recyclebills 6 років тому

      I never worry about fast. Besides hauling bikes I spent 28 years in trucking, mostly flatbed and hauling construction equipment. And a few years hauling used cars and running tow trucks. (Want to become a nervous wreck, haul a police impounded custom dresser worth more than you're going to make in the next 2 years and belonging to an arrested Hells Angel swinging from the boom of a wrecker and don't scratch it. Actually, when he sobered up and made bail he was nice as he could be, paid a whopping bill without bitching and left me a cash tip. He was pleased to learn his bike had been towed by someone who rides.)
      The most important part is to establish habits and keep them. Do things the same way every time, don't allow distractions. Never lay anything down or you'll end up not having it when you need it. My Daddy taught me when we were taking chains off of loads of lumber and steel in the 1970s to take the time to put each and every chain and binder in the box before moving on to take the next chain lose. It took longer but prevented costly mistakes.
      Depending on the bike and what kind of wheels it has I sometimes wrap a rag around the front wheel then use a small ratchet strap to secure the tire to the center-front of the chock. But some wheels can be damaged that way.
      That's the other thing, different bikes must be handled differently. Some have very few places to tie to so you use what you can. Chrome is usually better to tie to than paint. Make sure your straps have ratchets and not slides. More is better unless adding more loosens the others. If something works, don't fix it. Make sure your straps aren't frayed.
      It's good that you tie down the back. It's back-up should the front fail. Things break sometimes.
      Check your tie downs after the first few miles of your trip. Then check them every time you stop.
      And remember the old trucker's adage: When you hear someone say, "There's no way in hell it can fall off." It will probably fall off.
      After watching your video I wouldn't be concerned with you loading my bike.

    • @motorcyclefreedom

      We live down here in Northern Florida I don't detail our bikes much but I was tonight, we are able to ride tomorrow, but at the same time I was following your reply, almost had me in tears reading about the bike you transport for the Hell's Angel guy! I think I kinda understood how you felt. I have read your reply several times, and thank you for the pointers. I watch my straps, more worried about the rebound hitting these bad bumps on the road. I like the part "There's no way in hell it can fall off".....I never say never lol (Learned that a long time ago) Reading your reply I see this is your profession. Me if I mess up and the bikes get messed up I just get them fixed and add a few pieces of chrome to Marcia's bike and I am a hero! But you mess up, you pay, one way or another, insurance, reputation, pride, etc.. so I know you have got to have it right! Again thank you for your pointer, all sounds like sound advice. If I ever need a bike transported, I will remember this post and you
