Railroad Switching In Rain! How To Switch Facing Point Switches! Rare Video, Rusty East End Track!

- Rare Footage! Short Line Railroad Switching At The End Of The Line! Working the grain spur, switching the New Customer on the lumber spur and shoving cars over the railroad crossing at the quarry near the end of active track. This is the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET and we chase the train from Macon, Ohio to Plum Run, Ohio which is just east of Peebles. Not many videos exist of action near the quarry since the tracks here don't see much action. We see both sides of the train in some of Ohios prettiest and most remote areas.
The first scene is just east of Macon, Ohio at Schweighart Road. The train is eastbound with their SD40-2, a GP15-1, 2 gondolas for loading railroad ties, 3 gondolas loaded with scrap metal, 5 covered hopper cars for loading grain and 12 hopper cars for loading rock.
Next the train is setting off the covered hopper cars on the grain spur in Winchester, Ohio. After that the scrap gons were left at Mount Zion so the crew can get them on the way back west. I didn't film that part though. I did film the other side of the train entering Mount Zion.
We see the train at a rural crossing just east of Seaman, Ohio coming around the curves on track that doesn't see much action, at least not on a daily basis.
The best part of this video is the switching action in Peebles, Ohio on the lumber siding. The locomotives are separated and two cars are spotted. Notice the huge piles of railroad ties and the new office sitting next to the mainline.
The final scene is the train at Hanson Quarry in Plum Run. This crossing is very interesting. It doesn't see many trains but the red lights flash all the time for the crossing. The SD40-2 is set off on the siding and the Geep shoves the cars east of the crossing. There are no customers on the last 4 miles of active track past the quarry but that section is used for storing railroad cars. I do have videos showing the trains running over the giant railroad bridge past the quarry and I have videos of trains being shoved almost to the end of the line near Jaybird Road. Check out my 2 playlists for this railroad.
Filmed in 1080p with 60fps on Tuesday, December 6, 2022AD
Thanks for watching! If you have time, please watch another video of mine to help keep my channel going. Every view helps support my channel. Viewing time helps pay for gas, motels, rental cars etc. I have a list of places that I plan on filming so watch another video of mine if you have the time.

Lay on that horn mister !!
Never get tired of those Jeeps revving up and down, could listen to that all day !! 👍
Good switching, neat how they have to move cars around from track to track, it's an art.
Another great JT video !! 👍👍👍
I notice some prime residential real estate for the railfan. A trackside home is my dream.
Love ❤️ those red/ black engines, they look so majestic in the foggy weather! Love the rumble of the engines!!!!
The chase was cool. The complicated switching moves also cool. Rural Ohio scenery and remoteness a good backdrop to view trains.
Glad you liked it!
My 2 and 3 year old sons love your videos! They’re obsessed. 5:30 am “daddy let’s watch diesel trains”. Thank you for your videos, brother in Christ. God bless you!
That's commitment there-chasing down the train. ❤
The day has started out good ... playing hooky from work, a good cup of coffee and a Jaw Tooth video with good short line action.
Stay safe bro.
Total short line action. Beautiful weather. It captures early winter in the midwest. It's great to see a complete customer service railroad. Thank you for your great videos and thank you CCE for being a great subject.
Couldn't agree more!
I'm in a wheelchair so I'm not able to go chase railroads. I enjoy all your videos.
Good morning JT - This is terrific seeing locomotives picking up and dropping off cars. Thanks
Shortline Locals great video thank you Jaw Tooth!! Have a good day!
Great video! I thought the horn stuck on that first shot. LOL. That's a cool effect with those locomotives sitting in the misty fog. Thanks for sharing!
Wow..some how I had missed this CCET video. Glad I caught it, cause its got a couple of my favorite locos! Great short line switching action!
Fantastic job covering it all JT!
🚂🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💯👍👍
Interesting shunting operations!
And yes get your little yard office and don't forget a coffee machine for the cold days and a fridge with some cold beers for the warm days!😜
Now, that's the way to start off the day with a video like this.
As someone from Michigan's upper peninsula it's always a treat for me to see a Soo Line car!
Thanks for giving me afternoon funtime. I still love those N&W linepoles with the arrestors. The CE "Wrench C" logo is simple and unique. Getting the gons being spotted at the lumberyard was a real catch and that spur with the embedded rails is my idea of something to model; you know, where you can't see the rails but you know that they're there. Locos on both ends of the movement? That's an RJ Corman trick. One more thing: the next time you're in Mason OH, get a really good shot of the WLW tower. Live well and prosper, Jaw Tooth!
Yes, thats short-linie action. Nice, the switching job. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven
Glad you like it!
@@JawTooth Yes, from one coustumer to??? How many did they have now??
Over there it guten nacho over here its guten Morgan .frohliche weinachkten
N a c h t not nacho telephone miss print my great great grandfather came from Mecklenburg
He was johanne Christian pfeffer
I love your car-by-car description of where they are going etc. 👍 Great video. Season's Greetings to the JT Fam! "Now that would be the job to have." I say yes, but I'll at least take that back yard. The homeowner is probably like "Stupid train I gotta turn the TV volume up all the time."
Hey! Señor Jaws. Forget about the shave. Got dressed, right? Good 'nuff for us. Still a family show, correct? Booking, yeah? Haulin' buns... er, rocks. I may be a year older today (73), but I don't have to be more mature. Gracias por tu video. RT sends, Puebla, México.
21:00 When we had to put cars on a siding on the Soo facing the switch points, we did what's known as a "drop" or "flying switch" maneuver. This is done by uncoupling the train behind the car or cars you want to drop, get up a bit of speed and about 100' before the switch you uncouple the cars to be dropped and the loco takes off and just as it clears the switch, a worker throws the switch so the cars roll onto the siding and the worker riding those cars then sets the hand brake at the right time. We never had the luxury of having a spare loco help us, I guess I worked for a cheap railroad, but it sure was a lot of fun!
Awesome short line action today Jawtooth! Cool seeing the old fallen flag railcars! Thanks for sharing!
Lovey 👌 👍 nice 👌 👍 information on what they are doing
Yes, thanks
I grew up with this work going on all around us, takes me way back.....Thank You!!!!
You're very welcome
Lots of switching action. I love how they work. Very relaxing. I learn so much from your videos. I don't even have to go anywhere to see these places, you provide it for us. Thank you. Have a nice day 😊🌈
Awesome! Thank you!
@@JawTooth I was like 7 I live in pitt every time. A train came at 3:00
Jawtooth, I do enjoy your videos and hard work. A lot of driving. A lot of gas. Also, a peek into your wardrobe hanging in the truck. It looks like you'll be out and about a few days. Thanks.
Yes, I do a lot of over night trips. Sometimes I don't plan on staying over but I do stay over if the trains are late
Outstanding locos. Both the paint scheme and the cleanliness.
Always reassuring to know that whatever craziness is happening in the country or the world, the railroad always gits 'er done
Never saw anyone who puts as much effort into their videos as you.
Absolutely fantastic!
I’m trying to get caught up again, had no internet for the last week.
Thanks again Jawtooth.
Wow, thank you!
Thanks so much for the short line video. Love them. Great shots in the overcast.
Glad you like them!
Mornin'!
Nothing like working a local on a cold, rainy day.
Outstanding job JW , I’m a old shot line conductor from Rail America in west Alabama.
It's good to see a well maintained railroad, it's quite evident. Nice looking (and running) locos, well maintained trackage (no rocking side to side) makes it a pleasure to watch, instead of wondering if there's going to be a derailment. Having a good camera man makes a difference too! No vague & blurry distance shots, nice and consistent panning, 👍!
Many thanks!
You sure do make a lot of people happy Son... Great vid and a great little short line railroad company ... I think I'll watch another vid ...
Excellent video... lovely sounds recording, nice trains 👍 thank you
this was so cool Brian thanks i to love the sound emd engines revving up and the sound of the horns amazing 🙂
Thanks for watching Erik!
Morning Jaw Tooth Merry Christmas and Happy New year all the best love your work and videos always Have a great weekend sincerely Andrew Macintosh cheers 😃🥂
Happy holidays!
@@JawTooth Thank you Jaw Tooth all the best Sincerely Andrew Macintosh From Toronto Ontario Canada. Cheers 🥂
We've got no such trains here in Kelowna BC Canada; the mainlines don't pass here (and now the only route that was connecting to them is a recreational path). It's so good to watch your videos as they remind me of Toronto in the past where there is plenty of train action.
Hope the businesses remain profitable. Nice seeing the diversity and growth of car loadings.
I hope so too
That horn on that Engine was Awesome
34:20 minutes of Live Action! Love me some of those purty new Locomotives!💕
Thanks for watching !
Yet another really interesting video JT - thank you!🙂
What is quite amazing is the comparison of ungated & uncontrolled level crossings compared to UK practice (for example Mt Zion @12.00 - 14.00) and how vegetation is permitted to obstruct the visibility of oncoming trains (even with slow train speeds). Very different on this side of the pond!
So nice to see railroad (shunting) operations rather than passing trains. Certainly, riding on the side of wagons is an absolute no-no here.
Locomotives look to be well kept and whilst the use of DPUs does not occur here although top’n’tailing is a regular practice - particularly with steam-hauled passenger excursions (diesel on the rear). Can even remember having a 6-car DEMU sandwiched between a GM class 66 and Electro-diesel class 73.
There's no distributed power in this video -- the GP15-1 is just idling at the back of the train. (Unclear if you think it was acting as a DPU, or if you're just making a contrast between the US and UK in general.)
When I came to this video, before I read it, I thought it was in South Carolina, because it looks like SC scenery, and as I type this, the weather is the exact same in Ohio as it is here, in SC. Gloomy weather just makes railroading adventures so much better!
Good catch ! Nice shortline railroad action.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for documenting these train movements by the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad on 6 December 2022, Jaw Tooth! It is interesting to see how the train crew handles these switching moves based on the way the switches are set up. The moves that they made at Peebles, Ohio were done efficiently. The moves they made at Peebles to make it easier for what they had to do at Plum Run, Ohio at the Hanson Quarry were well thought out.
Nothing but the best videos from JT.
One of your best for local action... thanks for the vids, much enjoyed ! Merry Christmas !
Thanks, you too!
Man Brian.....you just take the cake.
I love this little railroad, kinda taken it close too.
But I cant recall where I heard this but Norfolk Southern is gling to buy it and swallow it up.
Damn. Just like Montana Rail Link will be swallowed up by BNSF.Keep your hands off Warren....concern yourself wirh bringing back Cornhusker football man.
I lived in Omaha for 3 years.
Anywho, when I went elk hunting in Montana I used to see these Navy blue and white trim beasts hauling freight.
Really liked MRLs stuff.
I bought 2 from Aristocraft in G scale in the SD-45 locomotive.
I was afraid MRL would be the first roadname to go in Aristos lineup.
Sorry you're going to lose this line Bri, I'll miss CET also.
Wow now that was a cool video, good catch JT.👍👍
Always thoroughly enjoy watching shunt workings. Cheers JT
Thanks 👍
Your videos are so informative and interesting! My husband and I love watching your videos! I learn more and more from watching your videos! Keep up the good work!!
Awesome! Thank you!
CCET great short line just a little wet video but it was very cool thanks Jaw tooth
Thanks 👍
Beautiful video. Lots of switching action. I love that!
I enjoy watching the CCE shortline videos. I wish there were more Reading Blue Mountain & Northern videos online from Pennsylvania, but there isn't so I enjoy that SD40-2 from the CCE.
Glad you like them!
Love watching the switching grunt work. Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Glad you enjoy it!
This is awesome man! Great action with separating the locomotives, and how they drop off hoppers and cars, great stuff!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
I can hear the lead train 1657 poppet valve is out of adjustment. A nice mini house. They make an amazing man cave or she shed. Never have seen a signal crossing like that one either.
Cool, thanks
Great Video - showing the switching moves is the thing that makes your work unique. Thanks for spending the time to show the various locations and provide info on what kinds of cargo is being handled, and where it goes.
Great update and coverage…thank-you Brian!
My pleasure!
It turned out great! Greetings from a former Russian railway worker! ✌️
Cool, thanks!
Always wondered how they did that maneuver. Thx JT
I caught the wave just as you were turning your camera! I wondered if you saw it. 🤔 Glad you did! 😊
Great video and what a day's journey, thanks for following it in the crummy weather. I love the little lumber yard, so cool. Cheers!
Cool switching action by the CCET, absolutely loved it, along with the sound of those older locomotives, nice horn on lead locomotive too. Don’t get to see this side of Railroading much so I thank you for documenting this cool shortline. Well done JT.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@JawTooth always do JT
This is so fascinating to watch!
Great video 📸. Thanks for explaining all the details 👍
Thanks for watching!
When I was younger I had several train sets, A Burlington Northern with the Green an black paint locomotives, A Con rail with the the blue locomotives,C S X too and Union Pacific.
How exciting the gondola Railroad
Thanks for watching !
Wow,awesome switching video.
Cool action.
Makes me wanna hop aboard
There is a General Chemical PS 4750 hopper in HO scale, I don't remember offhand who makes it but they are out there. There are ones like the ex-Soo hopper as well. Accurail, Tangent, and Intermountain have made them. CP is getting rid of the old Soo hoppers, there's still some around but many are under new owners like the one here with a different reporting mark.
Good to see a vidof them again.
Merry Christmas, Jawtooth and family!
Thanks for the switching action! Hope to see more!
GREAT SWITCHIN ACTION! ❤ CET RR! Your coverage of CET is the best,as well as your dedication to it! Go take a nap,you deserve it
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! 🌟🌟👍🙏
good one no shorties the rumble from the train sounds great through headphones you can't get that from shorts
The 800 amps is the amount of electrical current being fed to the traction motors. Great video.
Thanks for the info!
Lots of switching action, great video...nice to see CET featured!😎👍
Thanks! 👍
Love the short line switching. Reminds me growing up outside of Syracuse as a kid watching the Erie Lackawanna, Conrail, and later Suzy Q behind my house. Great video Mr Tooth!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah that was pretty cool looking the new office building in the train sitting next to it get you one
That Cincinnati East engineer sure loves his horn, I'd hate to be in front of him in traffic!
I would like to have that little office building for a home. Thanks for the show JAW Tooth
100% action on the short line in the rain, JT! Thanks for another awesome video!
Another great video! Like that you concentrated on just one train. My dad would leave the main yard and go about 8-10 miles to the next little town and pick up loaded lumber cars at several mills and haul them back to the yard and switch cars around and make up the big freight heading south. Nice to see that kind of work in action.
I enjoyed the switching it is nice to see how they work the different situations
Glad you liked it!
Love this stuff JT - my many thanks for cashing down all of the action, some very excellent close ups too - worth missing a shave for imho!!
Great video and keep up the good work God bless from GA and happy holidays
Happy holidays!
I enjoyed that a lot! 😀👍 Thank you, Brian! 😊
Awesome video but wait there’s more 👍😎🇺🇸🚂❄️
So the lumber mill has to get the new ties over on the other side of the tracks to load them at the siding? That seems a lot of extra, too. I wonder how they move those bundles of ties over there?
Shout out to the CCET crews.
Thanks again, JT. I'll see y'all next time.
I really like the horn on that engine! The areas u film at look pretty nice also
Very cool video. One of your best. Neat to watch unique switching action.
Amazing videos Jaw Tooth keep up the good work
Thanks! Will do!
Great video love switching
Me too!
Awesome train video thank you Jaw Tooth
I have a cabin like the one you call an office. Got all my n gauge in there. Great SD40 with sound plus others of course
You did the TIME WARP to catch that video. Great job.
Just discovered your channel and love it. Just subbed and ain’t going anywhere.
Remember to sleep and eat. 🤣
You always put out great content
