To me, Ryobi's marketing and product development team deserves a lot of credit, I think they intentionally diversify their cordless line into A LOT of non-traditional tools like a hot glue gun, buffing wheel, soldering iron, etc, making their line much more relevant to the home-owner, thus more attractive. In a way, they decided to fight another battle, away from the big traditional tool brands. Frankly, its made me consider them much more seriously as a brand that I'd adopt as a home-owner.

100% agree with you. they know what they are doing. they don't want to compete with the big boys because they know that the homeowner/DIYer is their target audience which basically is me. if they keep this up and keep their prices in the same range, they will keep selling to that specific target audience.

I totally agree. One of the reasons I got into Ryobi because they have a tool for everything. I just wish DeWalt would diversify their line up like Ryobi and Milwaukee. I understand DeWalt is contractor grade, but Milwaukee has all kinds of tools that are useful for other stuff like a small shop blower, Cordless stainless steel shop vac (which is awesome from Ryobi), a small insulation stapler gun THAT DOESN'T USE THAT STUPID ANNOYING AIR PUMP! And I wish DeWalt would get into new tools and experiment.

If he was 6’ 2” and the comment was the same, I seriously doubt anyone would say, “What’s wrong with being 6-2 , he could knock a guy 5-2 out cold!!!”. Don't regret your decision. Ridgid makes fine tools. I have pretty much at least one different tool from all the major manufacturers. For example I have the Makita corded circular saw because it is still considered the best by many pro contractors, and I have both DeWalt and Bosch routers because they are innovators in that particular field. Most of my tools however are both by Ryobi and Ridgid. I love the Ridgid for the following reason: their tools have a Lifetime service agreement, as long as you make sure to register your tools. It is not that difficult, not only that but they are the only manufacturer who replaces their batteries for FREE, again, as long as you register them. I have everything from their multi tool to their circular saw, to their drill driver set and table saw. Excellent quality tools.
You are still very young, so start collecting and building your collection of the best tools that you can buy for the money.

I use them in a trailer manufacturing setting and they have served me very well over the last few months. It is rare that I have to change the 4 amp hour battery before the end of a 10 hour day, driving fasteners through steel, aluminium and plywood. I mostly use the compact impact driver, which is significantly lighter and more powerful than the one from 10 years ago.

I started working with Ryobi a couple years ago, I work for a General Contractor, as a carpenter. I have been asked by older guys what I've thought of Ryobi (most of them have been using Makita, Milwaukee, and Dewalt for years) and I always tell them I love them, but if you're getting it to use for work, don't waste your money on the 1.5 or 2 amp hour batteries, unless you're getting them for the radio or flashlight. The 4AH battery is great, but the 6 and higher are the best for work, and the drivers and drills will just eat those 2 amp hour batteries before you even go to lunch.

I moved to Ryobi +ONE for a variety of reasons. I have heavier corded equipment in my shop and I'm rarely on a remote site all day these days. I will occasionally fill in with a crew for the day or be out on an install though and still want/need solid cordless tools. I'm a little mixed on the chargers but have the 6 port, the 18/40 mix and several single ports, all have performed well. I've registered every tool and Ryobi has immediately addresses every problem (okay, so there's only been a couple of small issues but still...customer service is a biggie for me). I've got 2s, 4s, 6s and one 9 Ah battery. All are terrific. The 4s are my go to for most days and I've yet to be disappointed.
I've used multiple incarnations of virtually every system and simply put, I appreciated Ryobi's approach to their battery system. They said they'd continue fleshing out the 18V and 40V lines...and they have upheld their promise as they've continued improving the line. I'm not driving or drilling all day, every day any longer BUT on the days I do, I've yet to be disappointed since switching over fully to +ONE a year and a half ago. I have several of their brushless tools as well and had been eyeing the hammer drill anyway so I've got this combo in my sights for sure.

@VCG Construction. Hey Vince. Do I remember correctly? Doesn't the Milwaukee GEN3 FUEL 1/4" impact driver with the collet issue has only one ball bearing for the detent? So even the Ryobi has no collet issue? Puts Milwaukee to shame.
EDIT: Ask TTI / Ryobi about that drill chuck. Maybe yours is bad. My Ridgid 12V drill driver had the same problem. It would loosen with use and my bits fell out. Replaced it twice under LSA before they got it fixed right. And I was using bits under 1/2" and it doesn't have a hammer mode.
Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

I'm sure this has been covered, but Ryobi, Rigid (as AEG), and Milwaukee (as well as WalMart's Hart and a bunch of others) are all the same company / manufacturer (TTI). It's their Good, Better, Best lineups. So if they're increasing features / quality in one brand, I'd suspect the others will follow suit.
So in a sense, they're really only competing with themselves here.

All of those brands may be owned by TTI, but as a Stock Market entity I believe. Just like Berkshire-Hathaway own Hundreds of companies. They still engineering things in their own house to compete with the competition using their individual ideas and technologies. Same thing with Volvo owning Mack, Freightliner, and Western Star Trucks.

We had our own little ryobi vs craftsman ttr last week mixing 20 50lb bags of floor leveler in 5 gal buckets. The brand new craftsman brushless drill let out the magic smoke after only 2 bags. We switched to an old $40 brushed ryobi drill and it powered through the rest of the bags no problem even after it was completely soaked when the rinse bucket tips over half way through and dumped 2 gals of filthy water right on the ryobi.

"Your the MAN..." No, it is you're the Man, or you are the MAN. When writing, that which follows your belongs to the person you are writing to. Yes, your and you're sound the same, however writing them each has their own separate uses and meanings.

I smoked a brand new ryobi drill priming the oil pump of a 5.9l amc. Still works but i let off as soon as white smoke poured out. Switched to my dewalt drill thats chopped in half with a ryobi base so it usedms the batterys i half, that smoked but its old af. Ended up using my m12 drill and ran it till the battery died. Did the job. Deffinetly better than 30 seconds and a smoke show

I remember probably 15 years ago my dad bought a Ryobi battery drill for $30 at Ace hardware. It lasted 2 uses and burned up. Lol. They’ve come a long way since then. And he was so mad. It was pretty funny. Lol

I bought a Starter kit for restoring a boat like 2 years ago. I use the heck out of this $700 set and I still can't believe I'm using Ryobi because I was a Dewalt guy. But all the tools in the kit have surprised me and haven't let me down yet. Afraid to try "upgrade" because it would be hard to believe I could get more out of a tool.

Yo i use them every day the new brushless hammer drill is a beast i have had it for a while now and probably use every other day for about 5 or hr stright. Love it the only thing I have heard was my Pop said it feels a little heavy and it dose by comparison to some but the price point make up for it with me. I have almost every cordless tool they offer except the bolt cutters.

Ryobi is Legit on a mission! I just recently saw they have a new mid torque 1/2" impact with 620ft/lbs and now these. Plus they're priced so aggressive, I got to say it might be time to stop buying Orange and Red and start trying out some Green. 🤷‍♂️
