It’s been about two weeks since Kevin Durant requested a trade out of Brooklyn but so far talks haven’t been aggressive. This is a look at why no one seems to want KD despite his elite talent.

It isn't that he isn't worth it - nobody wants to end up like the Knicks after the Carmelo Anthony trade. You're going to have to gut your team to get KD - then you'll be left with KD and scraps. Even teams that are contending for the championship will be left gutted.

But it's even worse, what the Nets have been asking for...
According to rumors, and the wisdom of the crowds, they were asking the Warriors for Wiggins, Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody, and Poole...plus 3 to 4 first round picks.
For those paying attention, that is a number one pick, a number two, a number seven, a number 14 for 28, plus the Warriors' draft capital for the next four seasons.
Designated rookie considerations aside I would hesitate to trade Wiggins, Poole, and a couple of pics for an injury prone 33 year old KD. I'm not saying he's not great, but if we lose a third of our team, including our starting small forward, our sixth man, our most NBA ready young player in moody, and two potential future superstars, we are giving up the future of the team for a chance at one or two more Larry O'Brien's. And losing that much of the team makes it a fairly chancy chance in my opinion... Hell, people thought that the 2018 squad was top heavy.. this would be like four max contracts, a mid-level exception, and veteran minimums. No thank you, not even for KD in his prime

    • @sambeaumont395
      @sambeaumont395 Рік тому +1

@@atsk3281 why would they want to though.
Granted Kyrie and Ben are slightly bigger dramas than Durant himself (and mental cases), but them plus Warren, Harris, Curry, O’Neale, Mills (a few in a contract year) - they have a pretty solid team on paper.
Likewise why would Durant really want a trade - even if the Nets get more realistic in their demands chances are the Nets are moving the better player, with 4 years left on his contract. So that team is going to have to give up a package centred on a really nice player or a bunch of great/great potential players in return - either way they would be losing their depth.
Given the complications likely surrounding any trade it’ll take some time and most of the vets and quality young players will have signed contracts - so filling out a roster with lower classes players on league minimum contracts.
Personally, I’m not convinced that the Suns less Ayton (Indiana?), Bridges, Johnson and maybe Shamet (to match salary) is better than what he is leaving with the Nets.
The Heat would likely need to trade everyone but Bam, Lowry and Butler to meet Salary. Not sure I would be comfortable relying on league minimums for injury insurances etc. with that group of players.
Staying in Brooklyn makes the most sense for Brooklyn and KD in my opinion.
That said if he were traded to the Kings, maybe he gets them to the playoffs for the first time in however many years and gets the recognition for being ending their drought.

I believe it is also in KD’s best interest to run it back. Any team that trades for him is going to lose its supporting/bigger star and depth based on why the Nets are seeking.

The problem is too many unknowns kyrie is still not vaccinated and pandemic is still ongoing god forbid another wave or variant hits. Ben Simmons is in arbitration and sits out for mental health. Durant and patty will be 34 by season start and the decline of their game will start . Three of the guys on the roster missed the previous season in Simmons, warren and Harris. A lot of guys from previous season are gone Drummond, Blake, Aldridge, Dragic and Bruce brown.

@@warsameabdinur314 - I am not saying that the team/season won’t be riddled with drama. Just acknowledging that any team that trades for Durant won’t be as deep as the Nets currently are with him.
I don’t think being 34 will have a massive impact on Durant or Mills roles/skill.
Losing Drummond, Griffin and to a lesser extent Aldridge isn’t a massive impact - those guys barely played and are shells of their former selves anyway.
Brown and Dragic are bigger losses, but I feel like Brown’s role was likely to diminish with new/returning players.
Warren and Harris are big adds despite sitting out last season, both should be playing with a chip on the shoulder trying to prove their value for contract or trade when it eventually gets blown up. Simmons even more so.

I think the Suns and Nuggets are his two best options. I mean the Nuggets did so well even without Murray and MPJ solely relying on Jokic. I think they could do amazing things if KD went there. You have to be REALLY optimistic to think he'll be elite for 3 more years. And again, draft picks "not a guaranteed star", no but the only way to build a championship contender is through the draft and that's a proven fact. The nets followed that same logic when they traded for Garnett. They traded the pick that became Jayson Tatum. You'd have to be out of your mind to give up all that for an aging player. The package below would be worth consideration for the Nets, Lakers, and Cavaliers going forward and cannot be done until August 1st due to a recent draft pick signing. LAL would have a Big 3 with Durant, Irving, Davis. CLE would have a big 4 with Garland, Allen, Mobley, and LeBron. BKN would get a plethora of picks and solid rotational players plus cap space going forward.

    From BKN:

Problem being we're the Hawks, so trading away Trae for an older KD seems flat irresponsible. Plus fans like myself love Trae. But what if DJ left in 2 years with no chip with KD? Then an even older superstar wants out (KD) Capela is 2 years older. Okongwu then just in 4th year & no bench & players not wanting to accept a trade to us bc we're just shuffling guys. So to shorten this up, without a chip......A team would be wrecked. ATL trading Trae? A younger star? GM's gotta know that's bad for business. imho
