Turning A Fallen Tree Into A Mountain Bike Feature 😮
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 чер 2024
- We're building a Skinny out of an old tree in our backyard MTB trails! With the arrival of spring bringing warmer temperatures, the snow has started to thaw out. This gave us an opportunity to tackle our first trail building project of the year and do a little trail work. For our first build this season, we are building a log ride out of a fallen ash (?) tree that was much too big to move. This feature is situated just next to the access trail, for the time being will just be an extra credit feature. In the future we may tie it into a trail.

Building the sketchiest backyard skinny 😮
#MTB #Trailbuilding #MTBSkinny - Спорт
It actually snowed 4 inches since this video was posted... Gotta love New England!
Edit: just a quick PSA I'm being sarcastic at the ~2:30 mark. I'm literally wearing a chainsaw helmet a few minutes later. 😉
Are Any videos with snow coming
Come ride with us in North Carolina. Weather has been beautiful as of late.
I'd love to and would have, but I'm not traveling until the pandemic is under control.
Haha Vermont this year has snow a lot at lest in ludlow vt
awesome to see an update, Phil! that skinny line is sick and *gorgeous* -- and only moderately terrifying to watch the sketch factor of constructing it LOL
I was just watching your old videos and in the middle of one i saw this notification! Yay
That has happened to me also
It's a sign!
Your survey poped up on my feed but this video never did. Thanks for another video phil👍
Man when this notification popped up, I felt like i saw an old friend from far across the airport and i couldn't run fast enough over to hug ya. We missed you Phil! Your videos always inspire me, give me a sense of peace and calm, make me laugh, and make me want to build - wether thats myself or trails. So many other channels are too full of themselves and it just doesn't feel right. Your channel is about the joy that is riding a bike and what it can mean for your lifestyle. Not to mention top tier production quality and coaching that normally people have to pay for - hours on end at that. I'm frustrated to hear about the issues of things not popping up because this is by far my favorite channel. Some comments suggest some other direction but I'm like dude no just be you. Your channel is like going over to a good friends house to hang out and geek on bikes for a Sunday afternoon. Being able to offer this peace and friendship to the world - that is an incredible thing. Thank you for doing what you do and how you do it ✊
I love that you built your most hated feature 😂 but seriously, it's probably that mindset, conquering your weaknesses, that made you the rider you are 💪🏼 I also seriously appreciate the increased production value, sick edit
I'm so hyped you (and a few other guys) have switched over to all natural building. Lots of new mtbers out here who don't know about the SUSTAINABILITY aspect of being in the woods yet and you're helping show them the right way
6:16 the beat sync 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Always a great day when Phil uploads a video
I appreciate that :)
The backyard is back!!
Phil I’ve just managed to view your video and have answered your servey....... I’m letting u know I’m here in England with others watching your UA-cam channel I get all your posts and am hooked on ya Whistler videos..... keep up your gd work as you enspire others to build where we can .....
Coming off a small injury it's nice to have these videos to keep the stoke alive while I heal.
U the one that broke some bo es and wheat over the handlebars?
Yes he has finally uploaded
Yes more building
New video?! Hell yeah!
Phil’s channel is what motivated me to start mountain biking.
Hell yeah bud!
Been a long winter....glad to have you back
Use those wedges to help avoid getting your saw blade stuck.....before it gets stuck. Impressive vid!
That came out great! I think the extra little touches like the cleaned up entry and rock work make it!
School work will have to wait
UA-cam algorithm has been shafting you lately lol. At least you have the best channel name in the business
I don't want to blame the algorithm but I would be lying if I said I was happy with how my last few videos have performed. Maybe it's the thumbnails? Maybe people aren't getting notified? Maybe my subscribers just aren't interested anymore? Maybe it's the time of the year? Maybe my videos are just not that good. Or a little bit of all of them?
I'm honestly not exactly sure what the real answer is. I know I'm not the most consistent poster, which certainly plays into it, but I have to find a balance between my own mental health and releasing videos.
@@SkillsWithPhil I haven't been getting notifications or even seeing the videos in my feed.
@@SkillsWithPhil .....I hope I'm not detecting any sort of dejection. If you stopped making videos, I would be absolutely bummed out, and I mean that. I can only speculate, but I think build videos became the thing for a bit there due to COVID, and people are just growing weary of them. It's not a slight to you, and I still enjoy yours, but generally speaking, that could easily be a major cause for it. It still had some riding in it, and it's always amazing to see you on a bike regardless of if it's on your land, or a world famous bike park. PLEASE DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED by any blip on the radar regarding your viewership. When things turn better, you will be out ripping up the trails, and your viewership will go right back up. Chin up dude...the production quality is on par with many who are paying people to do it for them, so just keep doing what you do!!
@@willbros1499 That is a really good take. Fully agree. I also didn’t see this video in my feed but I saw the survey you posted Phil. I also watch pretty much all your videos :)
yay! finally I missed your builds!
WHY WASNT I WATCHING THIS SERIES. i was missing out man
Time to binge watch in both his channels then!😆
Same
I am always stoked on good people doing cool stuff on bikes with a positive attitude. 🤘
Same. Such a genuine dude!
I saw the video it popped up in my feed as normal. No weird hiding the video or anything. Normal video and was what I expected from your channel. If youtube is your job get consistent with posting content. Doesn't matter what that is, just keep us posted on what's going on with YOU every week. Doesn't matter WHAT that is just checking with your story every week. We will watch.
Sick saw skills and planning. That skinny is crazy good. Love it. Keep the slick trails coming
Nice! Good to see some more Skill Vids from Phil. Looking forward to more trail building with your new yellow trail toy . Also, think youtube missed letting me know you had a new vid. Will be sure to scroll through my subscriptions and keep a look out for your new stuff. Keep the sends coming! Cheers!
Yes! Glad you're back on the trail build!
RAR!!! PHIL SMASH⚒️🏔️⚒️
Awesome job!!!
Hey Phil love the video , but I do hate skinnies. Guess I need to double down and try to get better. Also you are the man! Love what your doing. I’m going to go finish your whole video catalog now. Cheers!
Your editing has gotten really good! Even down to syncing the music to the wedge hits at 6:15
Glad to see you back at building. To be honest, it's the content I like most. Can't get enough of it.
One thing that is imperative for you to research is a “spring pole”....especially since you’re using equipment to move logs and trees around. It a anomaly that can happen when wood is put under pressure or unknowingly already under pressure....bad things can happen real fast...that is reason all logging machinery has heavy duty metal screening/grating over the cab windows etc. I’ve picked up you like to work extremely safe as I’ve seen you constantly add more ppe to yourself as you’re progressing....check out what I referred to🙌🏼
Last few weeks when winter turnes into spring (here in Sweden) I've been having Skills with Phil abstinence. So good to have you and this series back on the road 🙌
YES I’ve been watching your TikToks to keep busy while the winter passed and he’s back
hey phil we live a little way from you and would love it if you could stop through and check out our local parks, seeing what you would suggest for upgrades. The backyard bike park is called Pine Hill in Rutland and its a pretty new set of trails but are super fun(one killer drop too) but needs some more features. The other set of trails is called the green mountain trails. They have bigger features and cabins to stay in. Of course there is killington but that you have to pay for we are more about free. Please come tour our area, all three bike parks are only 15 minutes apart. Thanks for the great videos.
I recommend reaching out to him through his business email adress, its more likely to reach him that way.
I am so glad you posted that community poll, because YT failed to tell me you made a video!
Phil : I hate skinnies
This episode : builds most janky skinny ever
So Funny Phil! Never have seen you struggle with Anything... great video too!
Delightful video as always, you two!
So excited to have more Phil and Hailey content again!
I love the look of your skinny, Phil. It’s got real character.
Next tangent for you - chainsaw sculptures.
Doesn't sound like something you want to say to a man. 😛
Jank. Pure and fun jank.
I’ve been following your other social media’s so much I almost forgot about the actual UA-cam channel😂
I have to say, TikTok has been my favorite social media platform in a long time. I wanted to hate it.
I think that everyone doesn’t want to like tik tok then they use it and start to love it
So glad to see a new video Phil!! Your videos are always a treat! Thanks for what you do man.
Oh how I've missed new videos from Phil. It always makes the day better.
I have a 15000 pound electric winch that I built a receiver hitch cradle for with attachment points on the handles. You can wrap a strap around a solid tree and winch a tree or anything stuck or heavy. I use a deep cycle battery that I keep charged. It works great, I moved a huge walnut tree with it yesterday to make a new trail feature!
Yes more trail builds!!!!! Yes sir! Exited
Great to see you back and busy on the trails.🤙
More to come!
Love this video Phil!
I think it's awesome that y'all who have the land to build your own bike park features in your backyard. I admit I doubt I would build a skinny because I hate them so much. I admire that you built one specifically because you hate them.
Good to see you back from winter hibernation!!!
And Nice music...matched very well.
Nice job Phil. it is nice to see you and Haley working together on your trails. Your skinny skills will improve quickly if you have to ride that everyday.
That started out a bit painfully but then picked up quick and the end result looks fantastic.
What was painful?
@@SkillsWithPhil It was that first bit of struggling with the oddly-shaped piece of tree trunk. Once you got that in place, things came together nicely.
yesss so stoked you'll be making trail building videos again soon. Have missed these so much
PHIL IS BACK 🔥🔥🔥
I'm soo glad you're back Phil!
Awesome to see updates!
Nice drone shots
Yay more trail build!
Phil thank you sooooooo much !!
4 months it's taken me but I can now get to the balance point every time and have today cracked the bunny hop.
Now need to work on longer manuals and higher bunny's but I've cracked it thanks to you.
Super stoked buddy, thank you , thank you and thank you again I'm ni longer a dum dum haha !!
Super excited to see what you build next!
Nice feature! It's great to see you building again. Love the work!
Editing the hammering of the wedge in time with the song was SUPER pleasing, love your work!
Love how well it’s all coming together. I can’t wait for more building and riding videos with the weather getting nice.
Always a pleasure and relaxing watching a Phil video thank you sir happy riding cheers
Super squirrely skinny...love it!!! Awesome Job Phil! 👌
This looks so fun!!!
When you get bored with winter let me know! My brain switched modes the first nice day we had.
@@SkillsWithPhil im thinking its about time to throw the bike rack on the car and make sure my bike still pedals!
So hype to see a new build video!!!!!
I enjoy the trial building videos almost as much as the other videos. Watching your home trail come together has been really cool and I can't wait to see what comes next.
Great video as always! Can't wait to see future builds
Love it! That looked like a fun build.
Every time I see Phil smash a rock, I tear up a little. I wish I had those gorgeous flat boulders for my builds.
Huge amount of work! Props, Phil! Looks super challenging, there are some SUPER skinny spots!
Enjoy watching your videos, especially those years ago in Whistler, you busting down the hill at break neck speeds. Like the back yard building also, keen to see you ride more.
Nice addition Phil. 🤘
Yessss I love these builds !
He’s back to the trails!!
Well done Phil. Glad to see you back with some video.
1:29 thats what good Mac n cheese sounds like
Your comment is so weird yet so true 😂
YOU RIDE BETTER, EDIT BETTER AND NOW BUILD BETTER!!!! WE NEED MOAR CONTENT FROM SWP!!!!
I've been waiting sooo long for Phil to work on these trails again :)
Yess dude great to see these videos return love them 🤟🏻🏴
Great video Phil!
Shit, for those that are new! Haha! Phil has more Skill than more than 3/4 the riders you know about! Maybe more than that!
Look so fun, Phil!
Great work!
Hey Phil. Great video. I didn’t click right away as you haven’t uploaded a lot lately, so I’m not as invested watching you build the trail. I understand it was winter and hopefully there are more vids coming. I find you how tos really helpful, mostly bike maneuvers, but I like the information you inject about trail building.
So awesome!!
loved this video! Editing was a little rough, music loud or voice comes in too soon. Really enjoyed seeing you build and and what issues you had, really good creativity.
2:35 they already do 😂
Yes
It has been awhile... glad to see you back!
Nice line, Phil!
So sick man. Awesome video!
I’m happy to see new content from you Phil! Keep it coming
Same here!
I like this video. Just didn't notice it was up until today. Keep up the good work.
Sweeet new Phil video!
Nice build!
The edit at 6:16 🔥
Nice work guyz...
Hey Phil, drop down that bar on the bottom of the boom on the excavator, when you curl the bucket in that is designed to pinch a log to pick it up, it's called a thumb. Should be a bolt or pin holding it up, check out a clearing video with an excavator you will see it in use. Good luck and love your videos !!
I'm a bit confused, Its a hydraulic thumb and i was using it throughout the whole video except for the things that were either too big or too far away to reach.
Looks sick🤙🏼
