I'm sure you know this but....your channel is gonna be big should be already long as you been doing it don't stop....your great fisherman with valuable info and a stand up guy
So ya its interesting, with the gills its not just the big females, like you said. The big dark males fan the nest and chase off the predators. So the lakes that have the super good populations, people are releasing the slab males and females. If it goes over 9 in do not keep it!
Hey man you need to calibrate them scales bro!! I think all of us have caught three quarter pound bream in some fishing adventure or another and that bastard that you weighed at .99 was easily a pound and a half bro
Ah we CAUGHT some in N.C that tipped the scales at 26 oz.. caught em on a fly rod with an automatic reel. Those bream could swim so fast the would out maneuver the automatic fly REEL. These are nice bream THOUGH
Ron Lee Those are really nice ones! Ive caught them just short of 2lbs out of this lake as well quite a few times. I Don't think theres any fish that fights as hard as they do. Our growth rate up is is half of what you have down there too so it take well over 10 years for them to attain this size
Those are frying pan worthy gils! Yes release all females that size. BUT harvest what you will eat all the males and let the younger males spawn the females.
@@charlesmorris6975 I do give all kinds of information. What I'm using what depth. Structure I fish. That way you as a viewer can learn how I'm targeting these fish and you can replicate it. Giving away a lake name will ruin the lake online. It wouldn't get fished out
I have a quarry I fish in n.y. with bullgills and slab crappies. I put back those big girls too. Great advice. Just found your site and subscribed. Thanks
Try using a bag to weigh especially if you're releasing the fish...and lay the tape down flat and measure fish from on top...btw great bluegill hole...and your thinking of returning the big bluegills (breeders) is on point.
Man those are some really nice gills! I always thought that if bluegill got as big as bass you couldn't bring them in! They fight ' pound for pound better that any game fish in fresh water! '
That’s definitely a fact bro…not up for debate about it period! But what I don’t seem to understand is why people think they have to throw all big gills back 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ big bluegill are extremely populated across the country and they breed like crazy so there’s no way it would hurt by catching a few here and there.
Honestly man you don't know about the growth rate up north in states like Wisconsin, Michigan or Minnesota. These gills I'm catching are 10 or more years old. You can't replace them in a year or even two years. You take them out of a lake in high numbers and they are gone. You destroy the lake. It takes 5 or 6 years to see a lake even start to bounce back. Lake becomes stunted and all of the gills are very small because there were no big gills to protect the nests during the spawn. In turn the genetics of those big fish are gone and the eggs are fertilized by smaller males. Lakes down in the southern states have a much faster growth rate. Takes a decade for them here to grow here to this size. Look up the growth rate for a bluegill in northern Minnesota. Also look up how important big bluegills are to a fishery. You'd be surprised what you'll find.
I believe you may be backwards when you sex the fish. The males are bigger than the females and also more important as the males guards the nest. Otherwise great vid!
i can never find the bluegills at castaic unless its fall and night when they are literally by every rock you can see in the water. ive found them here and there but only if i rented a boat and actually got to part of the lake with bushes and stuff in the water. but most is bare bottom with hard clay sand or rocks.. which you think ok cool you see a sunk log or some big rock out there you should get a bluegill or bass. not here. you reel that thing in too easily with your light set up but hey to each their own. i go out with my 2-4lb line and let smaller ones pull a little drag lol.
Those take a good long time to grow that big....good also to let them be te ones to spawn in the lake rather than the small ones spawning when they're too small. Good balance in your home water!
Small hands! haha seriously though nice fish. will haveta get u up to Kab this winter man.. huge perch. 13 and 14s on a consistent basis. the area is pristine too...second to none. keep the vids comin!
Great video just stop apologizing for keeping fish. There is nothing wrong with keeping what you will eat. As long as it is not wasted then it is A-ok! I hate the fact that there is so much pressure on people to only do catch and release and even when most of these people do practice catch and release only about a handfull of them can do it properly without the fish likely dying anyway. Keep what you will eat and feel proud you are harvesting your own food. No different then hunting.
Did you just film this or is this a little while back, because there is hardly any leaves on the trees and the crappies in my area (southern mn) have spawned out
Dude this is straight beast mode. NO TROLLING MOTOR, NO FORWARD FACING SONAR(POSSIBLY NO ELECTRONICS AT ALL, NO SPOT LOCK.... BRO YOU ARE MY HERO
How fun is that!! Love some pan fishin
Im gonna try like this...i normally use a very small bobber...i like to see the cork action but im gonna try this way.
Awesome release@14:40

Nice fish, we have them like that on KY lake
Where I am the lakes are absolutely STACKED with monster bluegill so I don’t feel to bad keeping them because we eat them.
The simplicity of bluegill fishing. The bottom of the boat as a bait well is a nice touch too
I'm sure you know this but....your channel is gonna be big should be already long as you been doing it don't stop....your great fisherman with valuable info and a stand up guy

That's the damnest bait bucket I ever did see.

good lookin out for future fishin by releasing egg bearing females back into the water. remind us all to leave some for tomorrow
Thanks!
Nice Blue Gills! You seriously need a can of flex seal. Why is it so much water in that boat? Lol! Great video.
Awesome video man just subscribed there's nothing like catching big blue gill makes me get giddy thinking about catching em
Hey man you need to calibrate them scales bro!! I think all of us have caught three quarter pound bream in some fishing adventure or another and that bastard that you weighed at .99 was easily a pound and a half bro
I have been fishing for 55+ years and i have never caught gills like these that your catching, simply spectacular Sir.
Did anybody notice the little fish in his boat
My minnow bucket tipped over haha
And people say gills don't eat minnows...the giants do
why is there water and fish in your boat?
Thats my minnow buckey
Is that just a hook and worm fishing bottom?
Yep
@@330Maniac thank you! We have only tried bobber fishing for them and had no luck last year. We will be trying this way next time!
@@vanessacenters9971 Good luck hope you catch a bunch!!
It isn't just your opinion it is science. Keeping Larger than 9 inch gills will stunt the fishery destroying it.

cayogator Thanks! Its my absolute favorite hoodie I own. It's lucky too as you can see. Id rather wear it than the other 30 new ones I own.

East the smaller younger fish and let all the big male and females go. They carry the genetics of the lake
IT takes big fish to make little fish. Thats why I put the big ones back
Robert Clint actually it takes big fish to make big fish. Average fish can make little fish too
What lake is this
Sorry I don't give out lake names
What is the use of doing a video if you dont give information

Do you ever fish on Melissa? If so other than LM does that lake seem to be fished out. Back in the 80s it was killer fishing. What happened.

Holy s:;t, In Mass, most are bait size.
He's so canadian

I was using a plain hook and a crawler chunk for most of them but also got some on a jig n minnow
Nice fish! I get that you want to let the monsters go but if that were me I'd get 2 absolute giants and mount them.
