Keep these coming mate, maybe more weapon tutorials to keep us going in lockdown ;)
Hi Jesse, good video and clear instructions. Perhaps in future you can also include a full demo of the kata before or after talking through the moves? Really like as the video progresses because I can see the whole moves including the stances (from top to bottom)
You inspire me
I would use those as thrown weapons
@@karatekidluke6351 iI have done The same with sharpened short sticks. It's a great exercise for focus and gives the feeling of better a bow
Honestly, I looked this up as a joke because I saw post telling me that my ultimate goal in life is to be Raphael, the turtle not the painter. But now I'm super interested in this, I've just gotten a pair of sais and I can't wait to start practicing! Thank you Mr. Enkamp
I been a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan my whole life, and when I began studying martial arts I wondered if I would ever get a chance to work with Sais. Fast forward to the present and I have a pair of Sais that I am hoping to work on a regular basis this year. I also have a first degree Black Belt in Uechi Ryu Karate.

I've been looking for a comment talking about ninja turtles since forever. Thank you for completing my life and I wish you the best with your learning journey!

nah its really about being monsoon of the winds of destruction
Learning weapons has many benefits, including strengthening of the hands and arms. A beginner uses a sai as a held, foreign object. At an advanced level, it is about using an object as an extension of your own body - as part of your body. When you understand this, any object can become a weapon, and everything you touch becomes a different experience - even a fork. The elementary understanding of karate is to learn to defend, the advanced understanding is how to live.
I like that, thank you.
This sensation is what got me back into karate. I train with heavy weighted clubs and it totally developed that feeling you describe. I realized karate is a study of biomechanics, and that all athletics benefit from what you learn from karate.
So, will I get bigger forearms?
Reminds me of when I was a cook. That's how it is with a chef's knife.
Your comment is the comment of someone who knows and understands martial arts. I think exactly the same 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I cry a little joy every time I see someone else promoting kobudo. 🤘🏻
Thanks buddy 🙏
You could say they go hand in hand.

I have 2 Hammers inside my house, if someone were to ever invade my place. One for Blocking, and one for Striking :)
Block a baseball bat with a hammer then strike with the other
Have you watched Movie: The Raid 2? There's a fight scene using 2 hammers 😁

I would really love to see a lesson on Tonfa, it is one of my favorite Kobudo weapons but I can't seem to find any lessons on it!
Search the police videos
Thank you for such a detailed video. I really appreciate the Japanese terminology as well. I purchased a pair of sai at the Asato dojo while I was in Okinawa and James was kind enough to show me some basics. This video is just what I needed 🥋🙏
Great to hear! 💪
Finally... this is what I'm looking for. thanks Sensei Jesse 🙏😀
I competed with sai for 3 years straight in 2 tournament circuits. I love the sai.

@@Galvatron102 I was hoping this video would help wash away the anger.
One of your best lessons Jesse. Excellent. Thanks very much. 🥋 👌👍
Jesse I really appreciate these tutorials I hope that you will do more advanced techniques as well as exploring other kabuto weapons in the future
I loved it!!! you covered every aspect and very well explained, many principles are within your teaching!!! I’ll learn this form fore sure. Thanks so much!!!
I was training with my Sai's today. You have excellent form, and honestly, I have some work to do. Great video, Jesse!
Excellent video and instruction! I train in this exact kobudo style and often practice this sai kihon and renzoku kumite. Thanks for sharing!
I feel like some cyborg ninja who can separate his body after watching this.
and it will come!
LIKE A FLOOD OF PAIN
Pouring down on me!
And it will not let up untill the end is here
THERE WILL BE BLOOD, SHED!
Hi Jesse I've been studying matayoshi for 4 years to complement my karate. Its great to expand my understanding of okinawa weapon applications of various styles, although similar there are subtle differences and applications! Thanks for sharing
I came here just to learn a few holds for a cosplay.. but I feel I learned SO MUCH MORE! You are a karate need! I LOVE IT!
Awesome instruction! Patient, deliberate, excellent exposition of technique; and then a great demonstration of practical application!😊
Thank you for sharing this Jesse!
Thank you brother and friend. I found your video after buying my second set of sai since my first were lost 20 years ago. I needed my vocabulary refreshed. You taught me something new. I am practicing again to lose weight. This is great cardio. Find a style and train. I like the Tonfa, Sai and Nunchaku they are easy to dance with. Thanks again. God Bless
Incredible video, Jesse. I did TKD when I was younger and we learned the sai as an extra thing once we made black belt. Your videos make me want to get back into martial arts!
This is an excellent demonstration of the basics - I will work through this many times to further improve my abilities with the sai - thank you
Wonderful! Makes me glad to hear 👍
Well said, agreed.
@@KARATEbyJesse have you seen cobra Kai season 5 cos you’ll see that chozen uses the sai and he uses some of those sai katas against terry silver when he tries killing chozen with a katana and some of the kats you showed us all chozen uses some of those katas
Jesse thank you very much for this amazing introduction into sai including a bunkai or practical application. Wow.
Wow, I'll be watching this video many, many, many times. I've always wanted to learn the sai but my karate sensei didnt teach kobudo. Thank you for this.
So elegantly demonstrated Jesse and explained perfectly for a novice like myself to understand. very disappointed your dojo is in Sweden would’ve loved to meet you and attend your classes. God bless
I just got my pair of sais for my birthday yesterday and I already love the sais
Always good to see someone using a Sai the correct way!!
I can see that the pose of holding the sai by the hilt points down is inaccurate.
This is awesome. My kids have done a little work with the bo and just got sai. Should be very helpful. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Sensei, so articulately explained and very practical demonstration. I studied at a local dojo as a boy...but as you know, life takes over when we're not paying attention!
When my brother moved out west to Colo., he left behind his weapons, including sai...I just started picking them up...and had no idea what to do with them! Your very well done tutorial has not only given me a useful beginning; it has reinvigorated my keen interest in the martial arts.
✌
Thank you, this was very helpful and informative
Very good explanations with excellent technique. I am glad to see that your demonstration is true to form. I practise Kobujutzu here in S.A. and was part of a team who travelled to Okinawa last year in November.
Hello Jesse-san! I have been studying Kobudo for some time under Shihan Roger Wehrhahn of Mountain Teachings. Thank you for providing such amazing and free content to the world. It is a truly selfless act and I have learned a lot from you. I noticed something that you are doing that I have been told should not be done, The thumb placement on the Sai when in the natural grip should not be above the Moto - the location where the Yoko or prongs extend out from the weapon, and instead should be placed below the Moto which still provides support but protects the thumb from getting struck when using the Sai in bunkai against another Sai or other weapon. It took me some time to get to the point where it is now very natural. Thank you again for all that you and your family do. The content you provide is exceptional. Arigato gozaimasu
I Love Sai coz my favorite character in Ninja Turtles is holding that weapon
I love the Sai coz of Mileena from mortal kombat
@@konstantinrokossovsky3288 mine too
That's me UwU
This is awesome! Thank you Jesse!!!
Thanks! Don’t miss this: www.kobudomastery.com
This is a great drill! I need to practice this. I only know one sai kata so this will be a great exercise to work on! Thanks!
I'm having a hard time learning my terminology for my stances, blocks, punches and kicks. You seem to make things more understandable. Will you make a video about learning terminology please?
Thank-You so much!! I love your channel.
It’s good to go back to basic’s always no matter what ever you do gr8 I’m 65 so I practice it gets to be “ a way of life “ thankyou
Sweet! Love the technique!!
Great video! It's exactly how I explain always.
Cool weapons, they remind me a lot of the Baart cham dao when I trained in Wing Chun, having both the regular and reverse grips.
You are so wise, thank you for your lesson sensei.
It's incredible, I just got my first pair of sais and I think I can practice with this material, it's amazing what can be done with practice 💪
Your explanation is truly helpful
Simplesmente fantástico. Muito obrigado. Gostei muito. O senhor é um grande professor!
Love that weapon.
I feature the SAI as a prop in my knot tying video
This video was freaking amazing. Well done brother!
Wow, very nice. . Good explanation. Thanks Jesse-san !!
Subscribed! Thanks for priceless lessons.
Sweet video! Can't wait for the one on tonfa.
Thank you..very educating basic movement of sai..
Great video on sai. Have to say my fav weapon.
Can also be used as three's
It's an incredibly beautiful weapon/art.
Thank you sir, that you share your knowlege with us!
Followed it today. Very good.
I love the twin Sais, Raphael uses those. One of these days, I'll be wielding those someday
So good this tutorial, thanks
Just watched your video again and its awesome lots of info
My 6 year old grandnephew greatly enjoyed that, he has a pair of small plastic sai and is now practicing your defense against a bo attack!
Great video :) would love to see more like this such as one with the bo and one with tonfa 😁🥋
(Inhales)
*WASH AWAY THE ANGER!!!!!*
Thats what im saying
Nice, as Raphael is skilled in the use of his sais. He is able to use them for the Kobudō to trap his enemies weapons within their prongs or use them like daggers, stabbing his opponent. Holding them in a reverse grip between his fingers as well as use the pommel of his sais to increase the effect of his punches combining of his Ninjutsu with his Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Pro & Greco-Roman Wrestling, Sumo, Lucha Libre, Street Fighting, Krav Maga, Defendu, Regular & Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu, Ansatsuken, Taijutsu, Aikido, Judo, MCMAP, CQC, Sambo, Sanshou, and Systema.
Very nice demonstration. This weapon is so underrated
Definitely worth learning to use these, very useful skill nowadays
I love this weapon.
I think I want a pair of sai now.
very cool way of showing the basic man :)
Thank you again, Sensei; for another great video..
Thankyou very mucho Jesse You are a great teacher
Thank you Teacher .
I would LOVE more tutorials like this. Love kobudo weaponry.
I have a full Kobudo course here: www.kobudomastery.com
Great video as always
I can’t wait!
This is so amazing 🤩 i love weapons
Oh it’s nice to see someone who knows what they are doing, I just came from the Man at Arms video when they made Electras Sai and even though I knew nothing of the techniques of using them as a weapon I could just tell they were holding them wrong and using them badly.
So even though I’m never likely to use Sai, it’s just good to see how they should be used.
Excellent instruction!
Amazing! Hope to see a bo tutorial soon
It would be awesome to see a similar video with the bo or nunchaku
I’ve been looking for some good Sai training since I started with them. I made my black belt kata with Sai so it’s kinda my weapon of choice now. Thanks for the pointers! Happy training!
Have you seen this: www.kobudomastery.com
Another great video. Thanks for sharing it.
Fantastic video! Looks like you have a pair of Shureido sai! I have a pair of these sai myself. The steel variant. They were used in a dojo, so they had seen signs of wear. I learned how to re-wrapped the grips as the pair of sai were rusted underneath. I had since had the sai reconditioned via sand blasting, and then had a professional black powder coating put on them for preservation and protection against rust. Thanks for this instructional video. It can help me learn to use these sai. Excellent work! You have a new subscriber!
Appreciate the video dude.
Your content is so awesome and inspiring!
I appreciate that Lujan!
I'm here to research for my DnD character but ended up being actually very interested. Great video!
Excellent as always
Congrats, excelent explanation, didatic and explained, I íll use in my classes. OSS. Best wishes from Brazil.
Valeu!
Thanks sensei, It's interesting.
Thank´s aloot. I´m practic´s of these art and like verry much te sai and the kusarigama.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Nice explanation once again. I have taught this for over 20 years and I always find even experience karate ka struggle with the footwork. We used to do it at full speed and power after some time if training. It is a great focus and need to sabaki or else have some serious bruises. You should see by no or Kim (Okinawa)
The sai were often the favorite of the old masters,in isshinryu the sai and tonfa are two our weapons. one of the reasons for this is as you demonstrated in the ready position on the hip. The wrist position in isshinryu punching are the same empty hand as they are armed with sai or tonfa. Love your videos and technique
I know this is an older video but i use this as a cardio workout. Had an unintended but welcome benefit of strengthening my arm's
Please do more!!! My favorite is tonfa. Thank you
But I would love a video of all the classics bo, tonfa, Kama, nunchucku etc. thank you again
that's so amazing
Excellent video!!!! Thanks!
Nice, I dig it!
I have now ordered a par of sai.
I hope it will be fun training that kata :)
Thank you very much master
Nice video, I think it will be interesting if you did one similar but with the bo
✨ Спасибо за хорошую информацию 👍 Удачи и процветания на пути БУДО 🎉🎉🎉
