I dont really bother with book covers unless its romance and the cover has a man with no shirt then im def going out of my way to find an alternate cover 😂🦋
I never realized how different the book covers were until I started watching Booktube and now I’m always researching to make sure I have the prettiest one 😌🦋
this is so interesting! i always assumed the covers were the same as the us, but it's pretty cool (depending on the cover lol) that you might get the alternate version
I think the US Spin the Dawn cover is beautiful and captures the story better. I also prefer the US Addie LaRue - I like its simplicity. They are the only ones of these I've read (I know, I know - many of them are on my TBR.)
I consider myself mostly like a non-reader (I read approximately 4 or 5 books per year 😳), but your positif attitude and your great videos really make me want to read sooooo much 😭
The way of kings hardback US is beautiful. Embossed sword on the front, colour maps on the front and back. I had to order the US editions to the UK, waiting for the other three to come. So excited.
Real humans on covers just doesn’t do it for me… give me some flavour, put some spice into it… I need more than an ominous silhouette… the amount of times I’ve disregarded a book bc a human was on the cover is astonishing (ik we shouldn’t be judging books by covers, but shirtless men on covers doesn’t exactly entice me to pick it up 😭🤚)
I’ve been doing Skyward hardback with the UK additions and then the paperback is the US because I love them both! I don’t know if anyone else has seen it but book depository is releasing an anniversary illustrated edition of Addie La Rue with stenciled Edges and it looks stunning currently available for preorder I think it comes out in like 40 days or so
The original UK cover for Percy Jackson was so cool, with the flying converse taking centre stage. It just looked so age appropriate. Agreed with your comments on all these covers to be honest!!
I'm pretty sure you can get the stormlight archive paperbacks in single editions in the uk, iv seen them or atleast iv seen way of Kings in single edition. I much prefer the 2 part ones though because over 1000 pages for me is daunting because im a slow reader so it feels like I'm getting nowhere with books that are bigger than 800 pages, also you get 2 different book covers too.
The version of diviner’s (which I bought in the uk) is the same as the us version… so I guess they must have changed the covers to be the same at some point. It’s a good thing cuz the original uk addition is so ugly 🤮
my personal opinion: 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸*🇺🇸🇬🇧 * i actually like the newest covers im from Europe so i kinda have the option of choosing which cover i like best.
Addie - UK City of Brass - UK Skyward - not sure, but I think UK Spin the Dawn - US!!!! Strange - UK definitely! The Diviners - US, what is that UK cover?? Percy - US Way of Kings - I like both but prefer UK I think Loved this video Mel! 🦋
With "The invisible..." There is a deluxe copy coming some time in October and is gorgeous. The Percy books I have the original release and the covers are ugly but the books have good memories.
great video, mel! i love hearing your opinions on these covers! and i think you should check the Indonesian cover for Strange the Dreamer. i never interested in reading that book until i saw that particular cover 😂🦋
I wish covers could match more in different countries or at least make sense. Sometimes they don't seem to match the story at all.🦋 1 US 2 UK 3 US 4 US 5 UK 6 US 7 US 8 UK
Have you seen the special edition of The Invisible Life of Addie Larue? It’s not out yet but can be preordered on Book Depository. It’s white with black and gold lettering and is Gorgeous!!
UK covers always look so good to me and yet here I am having to buy the US editions 😭 BUT I'll admit there are some nice US covers, so I'll take it 😂 Edit: Okay now that I've seen some of the UK editions in this list, maybe I shouldn't complain HAHA. What is that Percy Jackson book!? NOO
For a future “US V. UK BOOK COVER SMACKDOWN💥 “ I’d love to hear your opinions on V.E. Schwabs Villains series (also Mel this video was amazeballz absolutely love it..and you)💕✨
UK almost always trumps the U.S. I bought both the US and UK editions of Six Crimson Cranes. I prefer the UK edition. A perfect example is Jane Healey's The Animals of Lockwood Manor. The US cover would never attract anyone's attention. The Waterstones Exclusive edition is one of the most beautiful covers I've ever seen. Even though I had lukewarm feelings towards Addie LaRue, I've pre-ordered the anniversary edition from Book Depository, because it's hands down the best edition I've yet seen. The U.S. Way of Kings is really a beautiful book, but OMG, it's a whopper. The size scared me off, and I'm a huge LOTR fan. Should I reconsider?
i definitely think a lot of covers are way better in the uk!! and i feel like atm, they continuously get better🤩 and for way of kings, it's super easy to follow and understand! it's mostly intimidating because of its size🤍
Why does this happen so much? Why do the more popular and beautiful covers in hardback goes out of print but they'll continue the plainer ones (thats usually from the US)? Why? Why? Why?
I've been a fantasy reader for over 40 years. The Daevabad Trilogy is in my top 5 series of all time. But HONESTLY!! If we'd had the US cover here (Australia) I never, ever, ever would have picked up the book. It's bloody awful, IMHO.
You should check out the illustrated anniversary edition book depository is releasing in oct looks amazing with the stenciled edges 😍 had to preorder that 😁
Well, here in Hungary they usually make the ugliest covers I have ever seen, especially with fantasy books, so that's why I am alwazs trying to get the UK editions.
I honestly Hate both of the covers for invisable life of addie larue tbh lol. if I had to pick Id pick the US cover.but I hate he book anyway lol, so it doesn't matter. I def disagreed with you on some of these haha.
Yes. Please, those Percy Jackson UK covers are incredibly awful. They are actually the same in all of Europe, and here in Greece where the series draws inspiration from, you’d think they’d give us a better cover. 🤣 🦋
I don't like faces up close on covers, I didn't like it when there was a trend with real people and I don't like the illustrated cover trend now. There's just something I don't like about seeing someone's face on my cover!
I dont really bother with book covers unless its romance and the cover has a man with no shirt then im def going out of my way to find an alternate cover 😂🦋
Fact lol
I think Elizabeth Lim has been absolutely blessed with gorgeous covers
okay but facts!! these illustrators are everything🤩
🦋🦋Covers sometimes r the decisive factor whether I pick up a book or just walk by. There are so many covers that r just extremely gorgeous!
same here!! they say don't judge a book by its cover... but i definitely do👀🤭
I never realized how different the book covers were until I started watching Booktube and now I’m always researching to make sure I have the prettiest one 😌🦋
get yourself the prettiest one lauren🤩🤩🤩
I can’t get over the simplistic beauty of the US cover of Addie LaRue 🖤 The black & gold is stunning
Agree!
I'm in Canada, so I never know if we are going to have the UK or US editions of books! There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it😂
Same here. I'm from Canada too, but I mostly see US editions (which I guess makes sense considering their just south of us lol)
Depends on publisher most authors have different publishers across the pond x
this is so interesting! i always assumed the covers were the same as the us, but it's pretty cool (depending on the cover lol) that you might get the alternate version
I think the US Spin the Dawn cover is beautiful and captures the story better. I also prefer the US Addie LaRue - I like its simplicity. They are the only ones of these I've read (I know, I know - many of them are on my TBR.)
six crimson cranes breaks my heart everyday. the us cover would be amazing if i'd never seen the uk edition. is it worth double the price? absolutely.
I live in the UK and the Six Crimson Cranes book still hasn't been released in paperback ❤ the cover is so pretty though I want it so bad lol
The dutch edition of addie larue is absolutely beautiful in my opinion, I wish I wasn't so set on reading the book in english
I consider myself mostly like a non-reader (I read approximately 4 or 5 books per year 😳), but your positif attitude and your great videos really make me want to read sooooo much 😭
Don't be afraid to pick up a book and get reading! If you need any book recommendations, Mel has some GREAT ones!
You are reader, doesn't matter if it's one book or 2 per year. If you still read then you are a reader ✌
I think you are reader
even if it was A book, you're still a reader🤍
OKAYYYY, CREATIVITYYYY!!!
Once Upon A Broken Heart UK cover is so pretty, I plan on ordering after the book releases and if I liked the story
The way of kings hardback US is beautiful. Embossed sword on the front, colour maps on the front and back. I had to order the US editions to the UK, waiting for the other three to come. So excited.
it has a sword?! *rethinks life decisions*
Real humans on covers just doesn’t do it for me… give me some flavour, put some spice into it… I need more than an ominous silhouette… the amount of times I’ve disregarded a book bc a human was on the cover is astonishing (ik we shouldn’t be judging books by covers, but shirtless men on covers doesn’t exactly entice me to pick it up 😭🤚)
this this this!! i'm sure some of those books are incredible, but i can't bring myself to buy them cause the covers are hideous😭
I would love to see your opinion on books whose cover has been changed (such as ACOTAR or An Ember in the Ashes)
oooo i like this👀🤭
I’ve been doing Skyward hardback with the UK additions and then the paperback is the US because I love them both! I don’t know if anyone else has seen it but book depository is releasing an anniversary illustrated edition of Addie La Rue with stenciled Edges and it looks stunning currently available for preorder I think it comes out in like 40 days or so
Would love a part two! It is so interesting to hear your preferences and you explain everything so eloquently!😊🦋🦋🦋
The original UK cover for Percy Jackson was so cool, with the flying converse taking centre stage. It just looked so age appropriate.
Agreed with your comments on all these covers to be honest!!
definitely need to look the og up!! it didn't come up when i was researching😭
I'm pretty sure you can get the stormlight archive paperbacks in single editions in the uk, iv seen them or atleast iv seen way of Kings in single edition. I much prefer the 2 part ones though because over 1000 pages for me is daunting because im a slow reader so it feels like I'm getting nowhere with books that are bigger than 800 pages, also you get 2 different book covers too.
the fun thing about the percy jackson us covers is that the covers of the books all connect and make one big frame thingy
this too!!!
this video is really helpful bc im indecisive and so whichever book cover mel says is better, I'm buying that covered book, bc mel is a QUEEN.
okay but this is me too lmao. i constantly buy one edition and end up regretting it afterwards😂
There's an reason I haven't started the diviners yet Mel 😭😂but I prefer the US cover of the inheritance games cover as the UK one is not it 😳
I'm listening to the audiobook for the diviners, I'm not touching that book 😭
The version of diviner’s (which I bought in the uk) is the same as the us version… so I guess they must have changed the covers to be the same at some point. It’s a good thing cuz the original uk addition is so ugly 🤮
my personal opinion:
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸*🇺🇸🇬🇧
* i actually like the newest covers
im from Europe so i kinda have the option of choosing which cover i like best.
The Diviners got a new cover, and I think it's stunning
i personally still love the og but i know a lot of people love the new one!!
Amari and the Night Brothers! idk which cover is which tbh but I'm in love with the one where she's behind a crystal ball? (haven't read it yet lol)
that's the us version!! gorgeous cover for an incredible book🤩
i was soooo happy to see my favorite queen elizabeth lim on here 💖💖 both covers are so gorgeous, i had to have them both for each book.
Addie - UK
City of Brass - UK
Skyward - not sure, but I think UK
Spin the Dawn - US!!!!
Strange - UK definitely!
The Diviners - US, what is that UK cover??
Percy - US
Way of Kings - I like both but prefer UK I think
Loved this video Mel! 🦋
I absolutely adore the German covers for all of Uncle Rick's books!!
ooo i'm gonna have to check these out👀
With "The invisible..." There is a deluxe copy coming some time in October and is gorgeous. The Percy books I have the original release and the covers are ugly but the books have good memories.
the addie anniversary edition is just everything😭
You should do another video with Daughter of Smoke and Bone (especially the new additions for us/uk) !! I’m just purchased them and I was soooo torn
great video, mel! i love hearing your opinions on these covers!
and i think you should check the Indonesian cover for Strange the Dreamer. i never interested in reading that book until i saw that particular cover 😂🦋
I wish covers could match more in different countries or at least make sense. Sometimes they don't seem to match the story at all.🦋

Have you seen the special edition of The Invisible Life of Addie Larue? It’s not out yet but can be preordered on Book Depository. It’s white with black and gold lettering and is Gorgeous!!
the special edition is freaking gorgeous😭 trying to convince myself that i don't need it lol
We need a part 2 of this!!😍😍
🦋 Love seeing the different covers
The German cover for spin the dawn is really pretty
UK covers always look so good to me and yet here I am having to buy the US editions 😭
BUT I'll admit there are some nice US covers, so I'll take it 😂
Edit: Okay now that I've seen some of the UK editions in this list, maybe I shouldn't complain HAHA. What is that Percy Jackson book!? NOO
that percy jackson book is getting a *go to jail* monopoly card from me😞
For a future “US V. UK BOOK COVER SMACKDOWN💥 “ I’d love to hear your opinions on V.E. Schwabs Villains series (also Mel this video was amazeballz absolutely love it..and you)💕✨
ooo definitely noting these for the next one!!
Can you compare the different covers for There will be
Darkness, I have strong feelings about the us and ANZ covers!! 🦋
*writes this down*
really liked this video! and us definitely crushes uk when it comes to Percy Jackson cover!
right?! i don't know what happened there😭
You should look at the French edition of addie la rue it’s literally stunning 😫
it really is😭
I love the U.S. edition of spin the dawn
UK almost always trumps the U.S. I bought both the US and UK editions of Six Crimson Cranes. I prefer the UK edition. A perfect example is Jane Healey's The Animals of Lockwood Manor. and for way of kings, it's super easy to follow and understand! it's mostly intimidating because of its size🤍
I think that us version of the diviners has stopped printing
Is the City of Brass a stand alone? Can be read like one?
it is not!! it's part of a trilogy🤍
Can you do the cover vs in book cover in your native language as part 2? Or if you want to I can make a list of book cover in my native language
Is it bad that I have yet to read all of these books and that they're collecting dust in my tbr pile?
as long as they get read at one point😂
Why does this happen so much? Why do the more popular and beautiful covers in hardback goes out of print but they'll continue the plainer ones (thats usually from the US)? Why? Why? Why?
i have no idea but it happens so often nowadays😭
one thing I'm grateful about when it comes to book covers, is that Romanian publicists always keep the prettier one
"Where as for the US one I feel like I did this." I laughed! The Skyward font on the UK version is way classier I agree lol.
my 8th grade photoshop teacher would be proud🤭
wow this was so creative!
Absolutely love this videos! 🦋
Addie larue: UK wins by far!!! And the white Waterstones edition? Yes yes
I love these type of videos! Nice job Mel! 🦋🦋🦋
Edit: OH MY GOSH MEL HEARTED MY COMMENT THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!!!
🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
I just bought a copy of skyward 😱
😏😏
I've been a fantasy reader for over 40 years. The Daevabad Trilogy is in my top 5 series of all time. But HONESTLY!! If we'd had the US cover here (Australia) I never, ever, ever would have picked up the book. It's bloody awful, IMHO.
I feel like the French cover of Addie LaRue is the best! I have the blue one and tbh I like the black one more 😂
You should check out the illustrated anniversary edition book depository is releasing in oct looks amazing with the stenciled edges 😍 had to preorder that 😁
The UK cover for Addie is hideous and that is the hill I will die on.
so interesting!
The cover of book Pet Sematary by Stephen King... Please take a look 😂
it's the laughing face that has intrigued me🤨
also I'm hurt that you didn't include the Polish cover of The Diviners.....
SHOOT i forgot about this one😂 it's definitely... something🤨
UK has all the good book covers and all the good book subscription boxes..
*no lies detected*
Loved this :))
i actually tend to like us covers better than uk covers and i have no idea why
Well, here in Hungary they usually make the ugliest covers I have ever seen, especially with fantasy books, so that's why I am alwazs trying to get the UK editions.
oooo imma have to check some out👀
I honestly Hate both of the covers for invisable life of addie larue tbh lol. if I had to pick Id pick the US cover.but I hate he book anyway lol, so it doesn't matter.
I def disagreed with you on some of these haha.

Yes. Please, those Percy Jackson UK covers are incredibly awful. They are actually the same in all of Europe, and here in Greece where the series draws inspiration from, you’d think they’d give us a better cover. 🤣 🦋
