Water Icicle Cryogenic Science

Water Icicle Mine Cave is a very old remnant of the landscape of the Peak District. It stores a unique and complex story of past climatic change, particularly the presence of ice underground during the latter part of the last ice age. This video records 2018 scientific investigations there by some of the World's specialists in Karst landscpe development. It was produced to introduce cavers and non-cavers to the scientific work going on in caves.

Wow 😮 If it’s the same John Gunn (Ben Gunn as we called him), then I was one of the Didsbury/PDHS/Magpie lot who caved with him in the early 1970s. I think it was 1973 that we first went into Water Icicle Mine. I have some photos of him and Ady Pearce in there and at Waterfall Swallet, a lot of memories 😀
