  • On June 19th, 2022 Wapakoneta Police Department in Wapakoneta, Ohio responded to assist EMS at a residential address who was attending to an injured woman who had fallen and was bleeding. Upon arriving at the residence EMS informed the police officer that the woman was very intoxicated. When attempting to bandage the woman's head she fell backward onto the ground where EMS began treating her injuries.
After the woman had fallen a man walked from the side of the house, along with a child. The man was unsteady on his feet and the officer reported he walked into a flowerbed and off the sidewalk, almost falling over in the process. The male confirmed to the officer that he was drunk. The child on the scene was escorted by the officer to the front of the residence as the child was becoming visibly upset by what was happening. Upon returning to the side of the residence the man had pulled the woman into his lap and was "bear hugging" her.
EMS was unable to safely continue treating the woman's injuries in the man's lap. The officer called out to the man while tapping his shoulder trying to get him to move. The man seemed to ignore the officer and continued hugging the woman. The officer continued trying to get the man to release his hold of the woman but he did not. Throughout the conversation, the man had glassy eyes and slurred speech. The woman told the man to let go and walk away but he did not listen to her either.
The police officer called for backup to respond to assist on the scene with the man. At this point, the police officer told the man if he did not let go of the woman and let EMS treat her that he would be detained. The man told the police officer they would not detain him and avoided the police officer's attempts to detain him. In the police officer's report, they stated she "felt something pop in my left ring finger" while attempting to detain the man. The man informed the police officer that he was a police officer and that she had no authority there. The police officer then unholstered their taser to assist with detaining the man. The woman stood up and attempted to swat the taser before being taken back by EMS. The man continued telling the police officer that he was also a "police officer".
The officer placed the man in cuffs and walked him toward the patrol vehicle. The man was later identified as a police officer with the Lima Police Department.
Shortly thereafter, another officer arrived to help assist at the scene. The man was placed in the back of the police cruiser and was later taken to Auglaize County Jail. He was later charged with Assault, Misconduct at an Emergency, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Official Business.
