What strikes me is the SM models know how to move to get the dress to move in the right way, to show off the personality of outfit. Imaan gets her hips going to show how the fabric swished and flows while Anok struts in a confidant almost military way that shows the confidence and authority that outfit is meant to convey

YAS! I think some would say that Anok's walk was rigid, but it wasn't. The outfit is a leather suit, you want to show off the clean lines, so you can't do a strut with hips swaying, which is the total opposite of Imann, where you do want to show the hips swaying because you want to show the movement of the dress. Kendall was doing too much hip movement when she should have kept the hips limited because she was modeling something that was meant to show the lines of the outfit, she should have had Anok's walk. Gigi's walk was boring and should have been more like Imann's walk, it needed more hip movement to show the fluidity of the garment, at the very least she should have just...moved faster, she looked dead.

Lots of top models who made it without connections, did not have great walks on the runway. Good examples are 90s supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford (she said she didn't really like runway as much, and preferred still photos).
The walk is not what makes a top model. Plenty of not-well-known models had better walks than Schiffer and Crawford. There are other top fashion and famous models beside those 2, who had walks where, there was nothing special about it. And they were still more famous and successful than other models with better walks.

Self-made??? Didn't their parents/grandparents give them their looks? Nobody chooses their parents or how they're going to turn out looking. Or how tall they'll be - you have to be over a certain height. Kate Moss got lucky because Calvin Klein signed her up for an ad campaign that launched her career. She was too short for that era but got lucky when the trends changed and the waif look came in. Before that there were no shorter top fashion models (shorter is OK for commercial work, like catalogs for department stores, magazine and TV ads etc). The top models before her were all like 6 foot, 6' plus, or close to 6'.
The only choice they can make is to get surgery or their teeth fixed etc.
Model agencies choose the models. If you get turned down by big agencies, chances are you'll never make it as a model - you can "work hard" and practice walking 10 hrs a day, for a year, and still never make it as a model if agencies won't sign you.
On the other hand, if you're a bit on the shorter side for a model but you happen to have a schoolmate at the same exclusive private school, whose mother is the founder of a top modeling agency, and that schoolmate tells her mother about you, then you can get signed just like that! That's Cara Delevigne's story. Her family is aristocratic too, mother from a wealthy upper crust family.
Gigi Hadid maybe a nepo but she’s does have talent and she works hard, takes her job seriously. I love the video where she confronts and escorts the infiltrator at a Chanel show. I like the moxy and grace!

@@bobbynicole10 Or Bella Hadid - she'd never have become a model with the face she was born with, and without a wealthy father to bankroll all that top notch high priced plastic surgery (initial work was extremely well done, but then she kept on going with more extreme procedures, making her look like a strange waxwork doll).

That’s what people don’t understand. Nepotism exists in every single industry and while knowing the right people can certainly open doors for you, it can’t guarantee you any level of success. Money can’t buy you talent, skill, or work ethic and if you have none of those, you simply won’t make it very far.
The only example of talented nepo in model industry is Kaya Gerber and she isn't there

@yarajennn what you fail to realize is that some of these nepo models like Kendall Jenner have the same walk in every show. They don’t have any range to tailor the walk to match the vibe of the show. These nepo models are hired because they are high profile influencers not because their talent as models with a few exceptions like Bella Hadid who has range and can exude power. However Bella, has had significant plastic surgery on her face so she isn’t like the naturally beautiful and talented models either.
@yarajennn All designers don’t want walking hangers! I do agree they all want attention brought to their shows and designs. They differ on wanting models who make the clothes come alive and models who can enhance their designs by being exceptional models. For example Naomi’s famous hair flip impeccably showcasing the backless evening dress.

I don’t understand why nepotism is so bad? If we all had connections, wouldn’t we use them? I’m sure these self-made models, if their kids wanted to be models, they’d def use these connections. It’s just life. Some people have a headstart.
You see... Its not always bad. Like see Bella Hadid. She's Gigi's sister but she has got what is needed. Her walk, presence, and everything else is perfect. On the other hand, Gigi definitely isn't like Kendall but she could be better. And Kendall Jenner is just.. meh. Kid's stomping and all that (no offence it's true). Nepotism isn't always a bad thing but they should atleast be good. You can see the self made ones are just different. I'm not hating really, these are just popular opinions.
You try to further your family's interests and yeah, that's natural, but it is bad, as it means the job will not be done by the person that's Best at it and actually deserves it. However, this is not actually a case of nepotism; Kendall didn't land that job due to connections precisely, but due to the fact that, to the company, her visibility compensates the fact that she's not that good as a model.

I think people are regurgitating the Nepotism hate thing without even analyzing. These people will decline any applications from their children, family and friends if they were in a position to recruit or refer I hope. Rules will bend then, I suppose. Even companies legally allow for people to refer Employment positions to relatives if they qualify. This is a legit network based industry. Of like 50 models for this one designer, 2 were Nepo. Everybody else were self made. And also the blame lies on designers who recruit them even though they can say No like Armani who does not include any popular models.
Because it hands undeserving, underqualified people in platinum level opportunities just because of their status. It's not fair. It happens all the time in business as well. The normal peasant had to work blood, sweat, and tears for the same position. Only a lazy, moraless person like you would think this is okay. In reality you are looked as a joke, as you should be
