The story of Narcanon reminds me of what happened to my mother. In the mid 80's she responded to a newspaper ad for employment as she was looking for work, as I was getting old enough to to start school soon.
She was asked to come to an information session, and was told they would provide free daycare, so she took me along. When she got there, they locked the doors so nobody could leave, and the first thing they were made to do was to sign a contract they would not discuss anything with reporters or the media or police. She thought it was very strange and suspected it might be a criminal organization or something.
She refused to sign and we tried to leave but they wouldn't let us go and the doors were locked. So she told them they wouldn't want her since she was married to a high ranking police official who was waiting for us downstairs in the car and her father was a reporter for a major newspaper.
She told me after that, they kicked us out so fast lol. It was all a lie of course, haha, my dad worked for the postal service, and her father passed long ago. A few months later a friend of hers fell for the same scam but stayed for the session, and thats how my mum learnt it was the church of scientology. Stupid assholes even pray on the unemployed! Parasites!
I was too young to remember any of this, but she told me the story after I gave her a copy of Going Clear to watch.

I’m speechless! They are a very dangerous organisation. Poor Paulette, how she survived this is an amazing example or resilience. I have never heard this story and it’s shocking beyond belief. Well done for not letting them get to you and goes to show how not to give in to abusers. Well done Miss Lovely. Big hugs. ❤️

Thank you for sharing this fantastic interview. I have great respect for Paulette. Tony Ortega is an excellent journalist, and obviously a treasured friend to Paulette. David Miscavige could learn something about honesty and integrity from these two.

Paulette l commend you for the work you've done to expose this group of ''Nazis'', and all that you've gone though in your life because of this vicious group of vipers. Thank you BOTH, for saving many others. May you be blessed for the rest of your lives. :)

Two superb speakers (and writers) in Tony Ortega and Paulette Cooper. If you haven't yet read Tony Ortega's book about Paulette, The Unbreakable Miss Lovely, I can't recommend it highly enough.
The 'Church' of Scientology spent 15 years psychologically torturing Paulette Cooper at the same time as they were committing the worst infiltration of US government in history. The things they did to this extraordinarily brave woman will make your skin crawl. I can't imagine an author better placed to tell this story than Tony Ortega, the most informed investigative journalist in the world regarding Scientology.
And the worst thing about it all? They are still behaving in this way to this very day.

I’m watching this 8 years later (8/31/23) and paused at 1:05:10 when Tony states Paula has been sued 19 times after being asked by an audience member if he’s ever been sued or concerned about it. I had to pause to fully process and comment. If there’s any one amendment that’s always been crucial to Americans and even now so many decades later, it’s free speech and freedom of the press. Yet, here is a woman who was sued 19 times AND indicted for crimes that eventually were dropped. It’s mind BLOWing!

This was so fine, almost like being there with you both. I liked your expose on the e-meter and it's so true, as to what they believe in, therefore works as they want it, an interrogation tool. Paulette, just want to say that many ex's who are familiar with GO/OSA have the same fears or paranoia of other people too and it takes years to lessen or to trust again. Blessings to you!

Yes indeed I remember taking some classes at scientology Los Angeles
about 35 or so years ago and realized it was not for me so I never went
back or looked back. A couple of years ago the wife and I started
getting a lot of unwanted phone calls from people at scientology and I
kept telling them to stop calling us and they just kept it up regardless
of our desires. Finally I started screaming at them and it has subsided
some now, but we still get lots of trash mail from scientology and I
have asked them to stop, but it has not stopped. I complained to the
us-gov unwanted phone call people, but they were of no assistance that I
could tell. This is just plain evil as I see it.

I had a step sister who got involved with Scientology. She was brainwashed successfully and joined the Sea Org. They told her she had to disconnect with her mother. Ann is the granddaughter of an ex-governor of Massachusetts and niece of one of the Senators from Connecticut. Ann was, at the time, emotionally vulnerable and mentally ill. Scientology had taken all her medicines away and she was becoming increasingly psychotic and unstable. When she called her mother, my step-mother, to disconnect, my father finally stepped in and, with his considerable political pull on both local Clearwater and Federal Government, went with an Episcopalian minister to Clearwater to pick Ann up and get her out of Scientology. I'm not sure exactly how they were able to accomplish this end, as Ann was resistant, and, well , we know what Scientology is like with people who want to leave, and how they treat those who have emotional damage. I saw her after she had been home for several weeks. She was continuing to refuse her medications and, though still psychotic, much less so than when she was rescued. She was hollow-eyed and terrified. She was in daily consultation with both a physician and the minister, who, after three months, were able to get through to her and show her what was real and what wasn't. She started taking her medicines again and allowing visits from her old psychiatrist, and after a month or so, was at least able to distinguish the real from the unreal. This story doesn't have a happy ending. No one who has been through that kind brainwashing and PTSD will ever live a happy life. In comparison with others who have left Scientology, at least she had enough money around her, her mother's, her father's, my father's, that they were able to hire a team of security for her to keep the squirrels away from her so that she could recover in peace. She had to do so behind a closed gate, and 24/7 security, with a team of well-paid body guards (who actually kept a discreet distance) on duty around the clock costing, in the end, around a million dollars. That's what it takes to leave and regain your sanity from this evil, spiteful, greedy, paranoid organization. I'm a very grateful Buddhist, and declared Bodhisattva. My take on this is that Ann may have suffered horrendously, but keep in mind, it's the Scientologists themselves, who are doing these evil things, are the people whose Karma becomes more and more damaged, the more they support and behave as they do as Scientologists. I, as a Buddhist, have compassion for them, as their damage will be revisited on them a thousand fold, and they will suffer greatly. As much as I have deep compassion for Ann's experience and pain, I also pray for those who are in Scientology to awaken, humble themselves and realize what they are doing to others, who are innocent, sometimes damaged, but always vulnerable people.

Excellent info, that Tony's studied a copy of the 63 page forward that Paulette and Nibs (LRH Junioer) wrote a strong piece of writing about L. Ron Hubbard and early Scientology written before "Nibs" later flip flopped and became more unreliable in his retelling rewriting of history.

24:25 ..... during that lead up to her depression that Scientology L. Ron Hubbard's, Don Alverzo luring Paulette to the ledge of the roof of her building, the timing sadly sadly coincided to Paulette's mom's date of late October when her real mother was shipped off to Auschwitz. October for Paulette was a month of doom, in that Paulette's indictment was meant to advance, or not, in October of that year Don Alverzo was prodding and sympathizing Paulette in her depths of depression.
Thankfully Paulette triumphed, through the random efforts of her friends at the right moment bucking her back up that October! Thankyou to her October friend!

1:00:45 .... true, John Connolly, really nice guy, ultra chummy, former NY cop, I mean the guy's really such a good talking friend, he unfortunately somehow was doing digging for uncovering Marc Headley as "Blown for Good".
In 2005-2006, Connolly was calling me weekly, and for a one two week stretch, Connolly did just almost ring me daily (3-4 times those weeks). This was due to every day Marc (still unrevealed as Blownforgood) was putting out explosive NEW stories on the chat sites. Finding out Marc's identity was Connolly's priority.
Later when Marty was going seriously public on his blog, Connolly also was calling me 2 times a week, pushing Connolly's conspiracy theory of what Marty was up to. Wishing me to agree with Connolly's take on Marty, I never did, and tried forcefully to say he was wrong, which of course he was. .
I was a sieve just freely blabbing all the other ex member's names and stories that still had to be told by media, back when the "Blownforgood" (unrevealed Marc Headley) was kind of like Connolly wanted to know to get the jump on revealing Marc back to Scientology as the first one on that info.
Connolly was always trying to put words in my mouth, sadly, he had a suspicious conspiracy theory he wanted me to agree with, that Marty Rathbun wanted to take over Scientology---that seems like the Mike Rinder OSA plot that Gerry Armstrong had "earlier similar" been foisted with, back by Rinder when Rinder was trying to force that scenario on Gerry back in the early 80s.
Tony so brilliantly has dissected Scientology's intel operations, patterns that recur, decade by decade. (Frank Oliver and the 1990s ex OSA people like Dan Garvin, and Mike McLaury and his wife, and Gerry Armstrong and deceased Vaughn Young and Stacy Young, have all exposed the devious intel writings of Hubbard.)
Tracing it rightly back to Hubbard's adoption of cold war intel tactics, using reporters, like Connolly, as sources and planters of ideas, so in turn Scientology's Office of Special Affairs can "make cases" against those Hubbard self created "enemy" ex members who are sold devious bad ideas to then go do, so Scientology sets them up and further nails them.
Devious. Reporters like Connolly ought to know the price they will someday pay, as nice of reporters that them might be, like Connolly really is as person.
    Excellent excellent overall dissection.

At minute 34 Mr. Ortega talks with a bit of disdain that the aunt did not adopt Paulette along with Suzy. I would like to defend this aunt. With the liberation of Belgium in 1944, there was a lot of poverty and shortage of everything. I do not know the personal circumstances of the aunt, but having extra mouths to feed could mean hunger for all in the household, It must have been a Solomon’s decision for the aunt which of the two sisters she would take in. Not surprisingly she put up a fight when she learned Paulette was to be adopted by a couple from New York, splitting up the siblings and given the time and age, never would be able to see each other ever again.

That's why Ron Hubbard wanted the other two people to be the leaders of scientology the ones miscavage pushed out and jumped in there seats because Ron probably knew that David Miscaviage would ruin what he spent the best yrs of his life building up
Ron would have named him as his successor and not the other couple who miscavage defrauded out of there promotion etc as David Miscaviage has completely ruined scientology as people wouldn't be desperate to run from the organization and everyone of them are in fear in some way of retaliation as they are not bowing to the subdigation of D M and his cronies that prob revelling in the little bit of power that DM let's them 5hink they have but one day what they do can be done to them as quick as a blink I realky think David Miscaviage should be investigated and charged with Racketeering as that is the basis of there cult Do You Think Tom Cruise will be the next "STAR" enlightened being lol

DC8 s DID in fact travel three weeks to destination NOT Gas Turbine or Jet they were Rockets far more advanced than today .They used Electromagnetism ahead of propulsion within Fuselage so I have to declare this stuff when I was 6 years old before I even noticed Scientology .

    • @digitalbazin
      @digitalbazin 9 років тому

+Roy C Horton "Far more advanced," yet still described as DC8s - the reason for that is simple, that was as far as Ron could imagine at the time he wrote this, unlike, say, Jules Verne or H G Wells (Ron was prolific, but arguably not a very imaginative writer). Any attempted explanation of how these airplanes could travel in outer space is simply trying explain away the absurdity of such a glaringly silly proposed vehicle of transport.

I quite agree with you Sir however LRH observed this Plane DC8 as an re-enactment of what went on ! It is hard to comprehend BUT I didn't believe either until Auditing ! A lot of what is happening today is just just stuff regurgitated from millions of years ago and that is the honest truth ! Why are so many people besotted with with Sci Fi like Star Trek and Alien ? Have an Honest Think !

Try to understand this for a change.
    Without illusion, conflict is impossible.
Who would defend himself unless he thought he were attacked, that the attack were real, and that is own defense could save himself ??? And herein lies the folly of defense; it gives illusions full reality, and then attemps to handle them as real. It adds illusions to illusions thus making correction doubly difficult. And it is this you do when you attempt to plan the future, activate the past, or organize the present as you wish.

My goodness! I really don't know what goes on in the USA, but the scientology you've got there sounds positively evil. It's not that way here in the UK though, it's as if it's two different orgs! I must say a couple of things, first it's scientology, not scienceology. Scio is Latin for Know or Knowledge (google it) and logos means to study or learn (Greek) So scientology is the study of knowledge, or knowing how to know, nothing to do with science.
Secondly, Xenu...I'm an ex scientologist who has many criticisms of the org, but I find the tech incredibly real and useful in everyday life. I knew about xenu about 6 months before I became a scientologist, as I had access to many of the advanced materials, but this didn't put me off because I understood scientology (the subject).
As I love the tech so much, (but not the 'church'), it's actually hurtful to find people criticising scientology for the wrong reasons, and xenu is certainly a wrong reason.
Yes Hubbard talks about volcanoes and xenu and all sorts of bizzarre things, but these are not what scientology is about.
Non scientologists, and many squirrel scientologists (those who left and started their own version), and many who left never to go back, all have one thing in common....they never did understand scientology. So many people studied scientology as if reading a book, eagerly racing to the next chapter to find out what happens next, and of course if you're reading a book you'll likely feel let down by xenu and volcanoes!
Scientology is all about you the individual, and how your own mind can be a barrier to your ability. Ability to function, ability to achieve, etc. The way scientology helps people to understand themselves is to present the data first, which can be awfully confusing. For example Hubbard may go on about life being a static, and a being having a point of view, and having points to view, etc, and all this becomes confusing, boring gibberish. But then you would listen to a lecture or series of lectures, some may include volcanoes and xenus, and as you're listening you suddenly get the picture Hubbard was presenting in his confusing, boring book. He may lecture as if xenu is 100% true, but it doesn't actually matter if he is or not. What matters is that the concept of a particular type of mental entrapment becomes clear to the individual. The point being that once you have knowledge, there are no questions. Questions are simply the absence of knowledge. You'll be surprised how many things go wrong in peoples lives, just because they have questions. And when you have knowledge, you have solutions, not problems.
And that's how scientology works. But the CHURCH of scientology is a different thing altogether, especially in the USA, as I can see.
I wish you guys would criticise the right things, not those which you do not understand.
