3:50 yes, the grinder produces some heat, but on the structural hollow sections, cutting them length-wise releases stresses built in from manufacturing. Cut a face out of square hollow section (SHS) or rectangular hollow section (RHS) and it's usual for the remaining piece to spring inwards a little. The face cut from the section, as you've shown, will nearly always curl back on itself. Use a jigsaw with a metal blade, which produces far less heat than a grinder, and it will still curl back on itself.
The only reason I came to comments was to find if someone had said this exact thing. Your spot on
truth
Spot on. Was wondering if someone was going to say this
"you don't want welders flash because it hurts"
Welds in thongs and no gloves
But he said the shirts good to stop welders flash 🤥
Maybe you have to wear the shirt as an blindfold
Who even wears gloves welding! Just a pain, a bit of weld splatter burn on ya hands won't kill ya 😆
@@thirtyfivefifty6551 it won't kill you but it's distracting as hell for me when I'm trying to be precise. I'm always wearing a mask, gloves and thick jumper.
@@bigoz1734 me too and I still get the odd burn to the head or legs from splatter, I know old school fabricators who don't wear gloves but wear a helmet, their skin on the hands all blotchy and sickly. There's no compromise for reasonable safety precautions ask people who's lives changed suddenly due to avoidable accidents, I'm one such guy and learned the hard way, but I'll spare you the embarrassing details...
@@livingadamman7994 it's true. When I was taught to weld they said how the burns of a welder can lead to cancer if you're welding enough. It's not that hard to wear a mask, globes and jacket. Makes for a more comfortable welding situation. You look at the pipeline welders, industrial highrise welders, fabricators at ARB or raslarr and they're covered head to toe. Some guys even have a breathing apparatus.
You'll find that's a dial gauge not a feeler gauge. Two different measuring tools.
Leaving oil in your housing also helps to dissipate heat
Great tip!! Never thought of that!
Free gear oil stink too!
Or set fire to your shed depending on how much oil and heat there is.
mungbean84 I said “helps dissipate.” If you have 80-90 close to igniting in a steel case you were probably gonna end up with a 20mm warp in your empty housing anyway.
check out new video, girlfriend washes me car !!
It’s great watching you break everything so I can build mine right the first time hahahahaha awesome vid as always!! Pull my Ls2 out of a wreck on Thursday!! Pumped
Uppa!!
Sick bro
ZanyDruid yes mate! So Pumped!!
Jarrod of to pick up the trailer now!! This time tomorrow I will be having some alone time looking at me new LS2 :)
Thankyou Sam for all the content you put up 👏. You have to give credit where credit is due, you have got a pretty high level set of skills for a young man and than most of us that watch your show ... Myself included . 👍👍👌
Like your japans safe boots, nice job Sam. You can put some centres in each end to spin it and then find someone with a big press to straighten it out. Cheer's.
#MoreSKIDS
Ho Chi Minh safety shoes with socks ...good one Sam
Good viddy Sam. Love your work
Thought you were already using a h260, no wonder you're going through diffs, poor little h230 with all that power going through it hahaha nice one mate hopefully holds up a bit better
Good shit
Sam
Keep it up ❤
Hey Sam. Nissan also make a H260 with full floating axles in some leaf sprung GU's
If you start snapping axles, I'd be keen to see if the full floater is stronger
The leafy diff is narrower though.
@@MKPatrolGuy ahh yeah. Forgot about that
Blew my H260 driving to work one morning, poor old girl had a big weekend and didn't like Monday. Was in a MQ/GQ Patrol ute. Was told at the time no one had ever seen that diff die like that.
Whens the 80 coming back?
Good Job. Now let’s launch some rocks. To minimize distortion make shore there are no gaps between the two parts being welded together. Grind and test fit grind and test .again . Fussy grinder better finish.
So did you use your old diff gear, crown + pinion from the H233 on the H260 ? Or did you buy new diff ratios for the bigger diff. I have the H260 bigger diff and really want to use 3.5 or 3.9 ratios, but can't find any.
Best you will get for a H260 is 4.1:1. They are for hauling loads, not cruising.
Can`t wait to see you try break your diff now at landcruiser park, well done sam!! :) i`ve gone into a diff once and that backlash shit is something to get your head around aright :(
Harrop, Yeek!! Have a look at the small diameter hemisphere. They could have made it bigger and stronger, it is a lot smaller than the powerlock LSD. Also, the cross-shaft in the Eaton is piss-weak, three piece and pissy diameter. Small spider gears inside a small carrier. The locking engagement ring is also a weak area - and then there is the issue of it unlocking when you change direction! In comparison to a Pro-locker, the Eaton is a joke.
What rust proofing is it that you used
Love the videos
H260 was also fitted to some early ZD30 MT variants
lol thats my picture of the diff at the 50 second mark. and it just went to heaven about 6 weeks ago after 4 years of duramax pain followed by 12 months of LSA abuse.
I concur!
Nice bro reckon you can tour with an lsa with 220lt of fuel?
@@jarrod1687 people go touring with 4.5 and 4.8 patrols. the LSA easily match them for mileage on the highway if not better. with 37" boggers I got 17.5/100 over 140km so imagine with 33" AT's.
@@vincem5 nice man, that's what I like to hear, what trans did you use? Looking to go ls3 but back of my mind says just go all out and lsa it, just want it usable in remote land
@@jarrod1687 i used the trans that comes with it. the 6l90e unmodified, and use 2 trans coolers up the front. not a cheap combo tho. whereas the ls3 and nissan manual is a lot cheaper and would work well in remote. things only start breaking when being silly with the loud pedal. i dont know how ls3's go on the juice? maybe a tad worse as theres no boost.
Love the work boots, what brand are they? Might have to get some myself
Rockos are the best👍💯
Bogan brand lol
Watched as soon as I got notified
The intro explains why the diff keeps breaking 😜
After seeing the Crown wheel from a 90 degree angle it al makes sense.
"It's all coming together".
Love the safety thongs bro !! 😂
1:25 his lying guys yes we do......😂
Dana60 with 35 spline?
whats happening to the other bullbar you were making up for the patrol ages ago?
Hopefully binned it
Hey Sam great video you forgot to mention to change to the HH260 diff you will also need the shorter tail shaft as the nose of the diff is longer!!
What gear ratios are you running? I'm struggling to find 4.6's for the h260?
Youll only find aftermarket these days, Nissan made them for mk/mq but to find in stock would be rare. snake racing do a h260 4.6, il add a link

@@Churchys_adventures Thanks a lot, I will check it out
Lol that box section didn't move from heat. It moved because of the way it's made it's under tension so when you cut it up it pulls back out
How come you didn't do a custom dana 60?
How heavy is you car? Like I don’t think you need the much tbh that’s my opinion I could go 4WD when I get my first 4WD as my first car and start off-roading
As in he doesn't need to carry so much or he doesn't need that strong of a diff?
J S I seen some 4WD that weight heavier then a small truck
Those kings draws are bloody heavy too, I took them out of my car, they are around 80kgs
Steve K bloody hell
I like your work shoes 👞 👌
Curious as to why you wouldn't do preheating of the diff housing before welding to assist with stopping warping.
How do you pre-heat a 2 meter long hunk of steel?
@@trickster8635 with an oxy torch with a broad tip.
how much for your old e locker :P
Why an E-Locker ? ARB makes a locker for H260 also. The E-Locker engages and disengages everytime you change direction.
It's not an issue and it can actually be used to your advantage if you know how
Maybe he is sponsored by harrop?
@@Churchys_adventures Hi mate, I was thinking of changing from air lockers to E lockers but was worried about the way they disengage. What would be an advantage of that?
No it's manually locked and unlocked via a electro magnet.
Warby yes but when you reverse or roll back it unlocks, then takes what like half a turn to lock again? That unlocking could mean the difference of being stuck orr driving it, would only go air lockers or auto lockers mate
Get a cold cut circ saw
I have the same welding helmet
mint
Are you going to SSS ?
Trending number 18 on youtube according to youtube stats 🤙💪
As you own a patrol you are very prone to break things so good luck with the diff
love the fashion bloke
did u get the welds inspected by a certified boiley
I know this is a few months on but really a boilermaker or even a welder has no business inspecting welds other than casting a professional eye over it and making comments, if you wanted to properly have them inspected welds are inspected by someone with Qa/Qc qualifications and really only person who can really say they can inspect it other than just professional knowledge is a certified welding inspector (CSWIP) but that’s really fucking overkill for a diff brace. Most state laws just require chasis welding to be inspected by an automotive engineer, same people that certify GVM upgrades and the like.
🔥
6 months from now... Pwo gday guys, gonna chuck this 9 inch in me ute today.
H260 centres are dirt cheap tho. cheaper than H233's :)
@@vincem5 do it once, do it properly and have confidence it will never leave you strandard
wouldn't that be a downgrade?
A patrol diff is way stronger than a 9 inch.
@@megarafjogos nope. the big problem with the nissan diffs is theres no support bearing on the nose on the pinion gear like in a 9" . so the pinion nose just walks up the crown wheel and boom!
@@vincem5 yeah, but he broke a shaft. I've never seen someone destroy gears in a patrol. Shafts? lots of them, but never gears.
Gold
Hey Sam, can we all see more Mac and tj in the vids
You want them to blow another turbo?
I don't know if you changed the front diff centre as well, but if you didn't know, your front and rear axles will have different speeds at the wheels creating torsion and stress within the axels. Also, your odometer is also probably out of alignment as it is but it will definitely be worse with this diff centre changed. Also, if the previous diff centre used red lock tight, it needs heat to liquefy the lock tight in order for you to remove the bolt, you will also need to do the same thing with the new diff if you ever need to remove the crown gear again.
George Azizi I’d imagine he’d have gotten one with the same ratio as the existing front diff.
@@shanenorwell8580 Due to the clear size difference, I highly doubt he did get the same, but if he did, he forgot to mention that.
George Azizi the overall size has very little to do with the ratio.
@@shanenorwell8580 Not necessarily, with a larger crown needs a larger pinion, the correct pinion size with the same original ratios, may not be able to fit within the diff pumpkin, thus having a different final drive.
George Azizi if it’s a 4.1:1 for instance that will be the same regardless of the physical size or the brand of diff ect. The ratio is the ratio.
H260 different ratio to the zd30 diffs. You'll probably have troubles in 4wd at road speeds but I could be wrong
If diff ratios don't match the car won't go anywhere in 4x4? Or can they limp along with mismatched ratios and get crazy diff bind up lol
I see you're wearing your safety thongs Sam. Nice work.
BiLL zor Chinese Safety Boots
Bogan boots built lol re the ugg boots...
Queensland safety boots!
Love the safety thongs 👍
Friend to friend, you won’t break the H260 !
But you will hang it up on every rock you try to go over!
That v8 in there is why your breaking components sam.
Go back to sensible tyre size and they will break traction before you break components.
Sup bro got black duck covers
Yeah mate still go through these in my 4.8😂
I read the pinion on the H260 is still weak can anyone confirm this
Feeler guage=×
Dial guage indicator=yeap
Love how Sam says to wear a long sleeve to protect from the welder when still in thongs.
“You don’t want welders flash”. Next shot is him welding without gloves
Also came in some zd30 models
The pistons in the ZD30 break quicker with the H260 :)
You say that but my old mans one has done 340,000ks without any major issues
@@ryanwilliams7628 Lots of them did - a mate towed his van around the country for 3 or 4 hundred thousand ks no problems. BUT - lots of them blew up too. I put it down to Nissan's ability to build supposedly identical products with vastly different results. Then again, D4D's will blow with alarming regularity too. I dream of whacking an Amarok V6 into my CRD........ but the CRD is going nicely with it's tune.
I thought that was meant to be the clean side of your workshop?
This was a different video mate!
Why not go 9inch? Serious question
Mate, the diff you took out is the Nissan equivalent of a 9 inch (233mm). Ring gear diameter 233mm. ( 9 inches).
Regardless of welding technique, method of welding or amount of heat - that diff will be bent like a banana.
If you didn't check it for straightness and correct it.... You'll be crushing bearings and binding axles in no time.
how would you correct it?
@@JS-tb9hu When we make custom high strength axles and diff centres, we correct it by using an oxy and rapid cooling to pull it straight. However if the distortion is excessive we remachine the bearing diameters and faces to bring all diameters concentric, and square.
Most customers get us to remachine them as it gives us an opportunity to to run bigger bearings or even spherical roller bearings which handle axle misalignment better when the axle gets twisted during high torque loadings.
@@billweber1340 So heat one side while cooling the other to literally expand one side and contract the other hence straightening the bend?
@@JS-tb9hu almost.
If you heat the 'high' side the metal becomes soft. It will then compress from the stress in the opposing side. Bring it to cherry red as soon as possible, then dump a dripping wet rag on it to quench it. You want the heated spot to be the size of about a 50c coin.
He looks like Robert downie Jr but australian
Nothing us unbreakable
"perfect for welding in"
Me: So why does it have reflective tape on it?
Anyone who does more than 5 minutes of welding would know this hahaha
Intensified would love to see you weld mate, it seems to seem the humbler you are the better you are when it comes to welding. Would love to see some of the POS you nip together :)

The ls will destroy all yor patrol parts lol. Beter trying a race style diff changed to 4bb spec. Those beams wont do shit with a supercharged l98.. goodluck

SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM
Chinese safety boots 🤣🤣
I couldn't look at it, I already saw the ambulance on its way to the garage ;]
Easy to break constant stuff if the sponsors pay all the damage.
Can't beat the thongs
So what are the legalities of this. Does it have to be signed off by an engineer?
In Aus, if the diff was a factory option then no engineering is required. Which this one was a factory option in leaf rear aswell as 4.8 models.
Bracing a diff also doesn’t need engineering cert however seeing a braced diff will make the police look over your car more thoroughly.
@@KieranRand fair enough thanks for that. Strange that a chassis cant be welded too and shit. But the diff can go to town. Cool to know.
krump 7 chassis can be welded to its just not recommended. As long as chassis’ are correctly fishplates and all work is conducted by someone who is qualified. The steel used in chassis is tempered and welding to it changes its properties hence why it isn’t recommended.
I have been watching this channel for over two years, there have been no "built not bought" for some time, selling T-shirts and advertisements with sentiment I return to the episodes from 2017-2018
That’s a stiff diff
Mate, reality check, you need to put $$ into the 80 series cruiser, she won't let you down. You've proven time and time again Patrols weak, break when you need them to be awesome and even Fraser Island towing states they are the number one vehicle they tow off the island (one a day this week already)!! Just saying. But back to the work you did. Nice job but is that bracing water tight? If not put some holes in so you can flush inside the bracing with fresh water after a big trip.
If the 80 had 500hp it would break too 😂
@@JS-tb9hu They don't need 500hp to break, they break shit all the time. There's a reason most comp rigs use Nissan drivelines, but reality check dufus doesn't get it. :)
Please dont go to that park, you will roll your patrol
The reality we can't ignore;
1. When you die the real you( the spirit inside your body) either goes to Heaven or hell.
2. Who goes to hell? those who don't believe at Christ as the savior.
e. Who goes to Heaven? Those who believe at Christ as the savior.
No works can save you, there is no physical thing you can do to get saved but you are only saved through faith at what Jesus did for you as simple as that.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
In other words if you want to go to heaven after your death you must confess with your mouth and believe that Jesus Christ was crucified and he shed his blood for your sins at the cross and was buried but risen again on the third day and alive in heaven now.
After believing at Christ as the savior you must change your ways and try to stay away from bad works or sins as hard as possible, you must show that you are a new individual in Christ. e.g stopping fornication, getting drunk, homosexual acts, masturbation, pornography e.t.c.
As a human you will still fall at some sins of course as no human is perfect, but you must not swim in sin you must try your best to fight against sins and live a righteous life.
Also grow in the word; I suggest the following UA-cam channels; Real bible believers, Robert Breaker and Pastor J.D Farag..
first
should just switch to toyota :)
Welding in thongs nice.
You talk about Welder's flash with the new shirt but you are still wearing thongs and no gloves..... hmmm....
